The espresso martinis were fabulous - not only were they made just how I like (foamy but not creamy, with sweetness that doesn't overpower the espresso flavor), but they looked great too. Service was friendly, drinks took some time but you can tell by the pic how handcrafted they are - love the extra-ness of the latte art. Do wish their rooftop was open but guess we were a little too early for that. Oh well - next time! We want to try the food too. read more

Although there is a beautiful outdoor rooftop bar, I dined in the main dining area because the menu options are different. Braised Short Ribs: The tender, juicy meat was smothered in red wine sauce. The mashed potatoes and carrots were the backbone to this plate (Ironically, there wasn't a bone with this entree.) Lava Cake: Although it is in the shape of a muffin, it still has the taste of a warm chocolate cake. It blends well with vanilla ice cream. This dessert would have been better if the ice cream was firmer instead of melty. Although the blueberries were a nice decorative touch, this type of fruit did not go well with the dessert. Hadn't been to the Metropolis spot since it was the Dubliner, so I decided to check it out with some friends for a late Saturday brunch. It was pretty empty and we were able to get a walk in table right away. We sat in the glassed-in front area (super nice), and I love how the space is set up--dining on the first floor and then a rooftop bar upstairs, which is still one of the only rooftops in Hoboken. Cool vibe with the split levels for food vs. drinks. We went with their champagne mimosa deal,$30 a bottle plus carafes of juice, which was perfect for the four of us to share. For food, I got the breakfast burrito and it was a great call: hearty, filling, came with truffle fries and a really good aioli. Honestly, the whole brunch menu looked fire. My friends got the chicken & waffles (looked phenomenal), and I was tempted by the breakfast pizza too. Overall, Metropolis nailed it--good food, good drinks, and a cool space. I thoroughly enjoyed both my mocktail and my meal. Everything I had was absolutely delicious and beautifully prepared. If I were rating based on my experience alone, this might have been a five star visit. However, there were a few issues with the rest of our party's meals. Several people who ordered steak didn't receive the temperature they requested, and my husband found his dish wasn't very filling. Service was also a bit uneven. Our server seemed inexperienced or possibly new, though it's hard to say for sure. A cute vibe. The music is good, not too loud, and the layout--with lots of two-tops--makes it a solid pick for date night. The 7th Heaven is SWEET, strong, and fruity--basically a sangria's sweeter, gin-based cousin. Started with the mozzarella rings, which came plated like hibachi onion towers. Super crispy and a strong choice for the fans of the breading on a mozzarella stick. The sauce situation is a little sad--and you'll definitely be out after your first ring. The dry-aged pork chop was the star of the meal. Someone in the kitchen clearly loves stacking food. After you de-jenga your meal, you're left with a surprisingly juicy, well-cooked pork chop. The potatoes underneath were tasty, though I wished they had a bit more crunch--tough to achieve when they're lounging in the sauce. That said, the sauce itself was a great match for the pork. Special shout out to the buser who came to the rescue with a steak knife after watching me wrestle this thing with a butter knife. Service could use a little more pep. Visited for the Hudson Restaurant Week menu and had a great time with friends! We've visited once before where we sat at the bar for drinks and kept thinking how good their espresso martinis are so we had to return for the food. With the restaurant week deal, for $50 I ordered the caesar salad as my appetizer, salmon for my entrée and tres leches for dessert. For drinks, a pumpkin spice espresso martini, Patron Moscow mule, and New York sour. We enjoyed our meals; my friend loved her braised beef short rib entree. The drinks were well crafted, especially the espresso martini! If you plan on visiting for restaurant week, it ends 2/7/2025 so definitely take advantage of their lunch or dinner prix-fixe menu. And if you visit during happy hour, it's a deal on top of a deal! Service was a 10/10, the staff was very attentive and accommodating. Stopped in Metropolis for brunch on Sunday. There were 4 in our party. What a lovely place! We were greeted immediately and seated promptly. The lovely woman who seated us was also our server. I ordered coffee. It was on the strong side but good. For brunch, I had the Moroccan Shakshouka. It was MARVELOUS! I also ordered the mixed berries which tasted quite fresh. My daughter had the Sweet Chili chicken sandwich, her boyfriend had the Jersey Benedict and his mom had an omelet. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I went to Metropolis with my brother and sister in law. I enjoyed myself. We sat towards the front side of the building. It was nice and cozy with the heat on. The ambiance was beautiful. The drinks were delicious and not too strong and definitely not weak. For those that don't want to drink they have mocktails which are really good. My brother and sis both had Lychee Martinis and also a Old Fashion and a Dirty Chai Espresso Martini. I had a mocktail that had ginger beer and blueberry puree. For appetizers we had the jumbo mozzarella rings which were so delicious, fried calamari and 2 empanadas that were beef and veggie empanadas. The appetizers were amazing. For our entree I had the chicken breaded sandwich, my brother ordered the braised beef short ribs and my sister had Magret Duck Breast. They enjoyed their meals. They really like the Braised Short Ribs that they ordered two more orders to go. Our waitress Elif was amazing. Super sweet and accommodating. Overall great customer service. So humble and kind. Overall the food was delicious and flavorful. Every bite was satisfying. Some of the best Mozzarella rings I have every had. The empanadas were different from what I am use to but they were so flavorful and delicious. The veggie empanadas was cooked perfectly. The beef one just melt right in my mouth. I wanted to savor every bite. The ambiance was spectacular. There was a live Dj who played great music. If you are looking for great food, music and beautiful ambiance welll this is the place to be. It's a small cozy place and we were seated in what would be sunroom or outdoor space upon arrival. It was heated for winter. Felt a tad bit hot at times when the heat bursted but I think server reduced it. For drinks we ordered lychee martini but it tasted more like lemon than lychee. For appetizer ordered spinach and artichoke dip which pita chips. It was decent in tasting but it was missing the cheese pull for me. For entree, tried the mushroom flatbread and chicken sandwich for which both were good and flavorful. I wish the appetizer came out before entires as everything came out at once. Avoid at all costs simply because of the owner. The place is fine and the staff is pleasant, but Amine is a nightmare and shouldn't be a business owner. I was working with a manager for months planning my best friend's 30th surprise party, and was promised multiple things by the manager to enhance the party. Even though I had it all in writing, Amine told me night-of that he wouldn't accommodate any of it, and didn't care what I had to say because "it wasn't in the contract." He was rude, callous, dismissive, and downright unprofessional, to the point of me being in tears, all while trying to prep for my friend to arrive and maintain the surprise. He threatened to fire the manager I worked with because I was promised things that "weren't possible", but somehow by the end of the night he made it all work (to which I give him barely any credit, it took hours of arguing and stress for him to finally cave). He essentially punished me for the fact that he doesn't know how to educate his staff. I will never return, same with the 40+ people that attended the party, as well as all of our local friends who spend their weekends at bars in Hoboken. To top it all off, it took them 1.5 weeks to even process my deposit refund (after 4 follow-ups on my part, which shouldn't have been necessary). I truly believe if I hadn't reminded them, they never would have refunded me. read more

Stopped by to check out the roof, good vibes - fun cocktail menu. We tried High Noon Iced tea and Hibiscus martini (sweet and a little tart) - would love to go back to try some items on the menu. Most of the food around us looked really good. It's a similar set up to Dubliner with multiple floors but from the looks of it...the bottom floor looked more like an upscale restaurant with how the tables were set. What a great place!! We were in town for 1 night prior to our cruise and searched Google for a good restaurant in Hoboken. Looked like a good place with a good menu, so I made reservations for a party of 14 about 30 days prior. It was an amazing find. The SERVICE, FOOD AND ATMOSPHERE was perfect. Our server Antonio "Soup Guy" was funny, quick and made the experience very enjoyable. The starters, main course and sides were delicious. The atmosphere was terrific, we were seated in the solarium next to the hostess which was perfect for conversation and people watching. We actually talked about Metropolis several times on the cruise wishing we had time to go back again before we went home. While my earlier reviews for Metropolis reacted to their beverages and snacks, I happened to visit the restaurant again for dinner, which I felt warranted updated feedback. We were seated in the nicer, main dining room on the first floor, which had a more elegant and classy atmosphere than on the upper floors. We started by looking at their cocktail list, which oddly only offered 3 custom drinks, with a few additional classics on their happy hour menu. Their wine selection, however, was more extensive. Since I am more of a liquor person and was not blown away by their options, I just opted for a tequila with club soda and lime juice, which was fine but nothing special. We sipped our drinks and waited for our entrees...and waited...and waited. Our server continued to check in on us and also provided an update from the kitchen. However, even after her remark about our food being on its way, there was still a good amount of time before that actually happened. I had opted for the Roasted Red Snapper, but, since I was not really into its accompanying sides, the kitchen agreed to accommodate my request of pairing the fish with the porkchop accoutrements of pureed butternut squash and roasted baby carrots & parsnips. When the plate finally arrived, there were no parsnips to be found. The server checked with the kitchen, and, apparently, they were out of that root vegetable. The carrots and squash puree were excellent, so I did not mind the lack of parsnips too much, but I still would have appreciated some advanced notice. The snapper came as 2 filets with crispy skin and was extremely flavorful! The fish was nicely salted and possessed more seasoning than other pieces I had had elsewhere recently. I felt Metropolis, as a dinner venue, might still have had some issues it needed to work on, but the food and service were, otherwise, largely excellent. read more

I would've loved to give this place 4 stars but it's definitely closer to 3.5 stars for overall experience. Being the sister restaurant of Belo Bar I expected a lot more out of the drinks. The food I would say is 4 stars. The drinks are closer to 2 stars - slightly above a dive bar (sorry!). We started with the hot and dirty martini (one with vodka and one with gin) and a spicy margarita. All 3 drinks were awfully balanced. Super heavy on the gin and vodka to the point where you can't even enjoy it and they definitely weren't hot or spicy. While the margarita which was supposed to be spicy had a floral taste to it both times and was also not spicy. For appetizers we had the crispy calamari which was a 10/10 the sauce was delicious!! We also had the burrata flatbread which was a 6/10 nothing special and a little weird with corn as a topping. For dinner we tried the short ribs (8/10), grilled hanger steak (6/10), and white wine mussels (8/10 - you can find them listed under appetizers). The short ribs were super tender and delicious but we wished there wasn't so much sauce saturating the dish and flavor. The hanger steak was decent but the potatoes were a little weird at first until you take a couple of bites! The mussels were perfectly cooked! For dessert we had the bread pudding (10/10) which was absolutely delicious. Points for the restaurant offering us a promo to enjoy a free dessert if we reviewed them we love that perk!! We also tried the s'mores espresso martini which did not at all taste anything like s'mores it was basically an espresso martini with a marshmallow (3/10) we were super disappointed by this. Overall, we'll definitely will try this place again but hoping they figure out their bartending issues. It's definitely not on Belo Bars level at all. Hoping next time the drinks are better! The Metropolis seems to be a cleaned up version of the Dubliner. I'm sure the rooftop area is nice but I didn't go there on this visit. The servers were nice and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Unfortunately, I found the food itself to be to average at best. My parents said the branzino was good and my daughter liked her steak. The tuna was overcooked and without much flavor. The crispy skin salmon was crispy but not flavorful either. My son's burger was overdone too. The prices weren't crazy high but given the small portions and average food I'm not sure that I'd come back. read more

I had one of the worst dining experiences ever at this restaurant. My date and I waited an hour for our food, only to be served the wrong order. When we let the staff know, they told us it would take another hour for the correct dishes to come out. We agreed to wait, trying to be understanding. Then things got worse. The manager came to our table and told us the chef was refusing to make our food because he was angry. She said the best she could do was not charge us for the drinks--drinks that the waiter also kept getting wrong. When we finally decided to leave, the waiter shouted at us, accusing us of not paying our bill. We explained that the manager had told us we wouldn't be charged since we never received our food. Instead of resolving things calmly, the waiter called us ghetto, which was deeply offensive and racist. To top it off, he and one of his friends (a customer) made additional racist remarks as we were leaving. This restaurant was unprofessional from beginning to end. The service was awful, the staff was disrespectful, and the environment made us feel completely unwelcome. I do not recommend this place to anyone. read more

The staff and Director Of Operations, Emily, are fantastic, friendly, and professional ( in particular shoutouts to Kevin and Nigel). They are fabulous and are attentive to the customers! The food is great and the ambience is a cool vibe. I am thrilled a place like this exists in downtown Hoboken and saw the renovations being done from top to bottom and am relieved the rooftop was kept as well! Not only is it convenient by the PATH and a nearby parking garage but it is a wonderful place! This is a tough review to give, I'm only giving two stars because most of the staff was great, but despite good service from most of the staff, my experience with the owner of this establishment really overshadows it. I came in around 10pm. I had actually intended to go somewhere else, but upon finding out the kitchen was closed, I ended up at metropolis. The rooftop was really lively, a dj was playing and the bar was busy. John was my bartender, he was very attentive and kind. I ordered a sparkling rose and a chicken skewer. He suggested I move to a table in the back and I agreed. This is a rooftop, so as I waited for my food I decided to light a cigarette, in the corner far away by a balcony. Suddenly a angry man came up to me telling me to leave the premises. I was totally confused, I had ordered food and there was nothing suggesting "no smoking" He continued to say he was watching me from the cameras? And it's not the first time he saw me? I had just arrived here, first time ever visiting. This man, who I later discovered to be the owner was unnecessarily agressive. Shouting "it's illegal to smoke in the state of New Jersey" what the hell is he talking about? Next thing you know another manager joins and I have two men towering over me asking me what the issue is, when there was no refusal or real issue. I felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome, this is not how to approach any customer despite smoking or breaking some unwritten rule. I could've and should've been approached so differently. The manager later offered shots, trying to compensate for the owners behavior. He then asked me To smile... when I refused proceeded to say I was "tough"... My chicken skewer which I was eventually "allowed"to eat, was ok. It came with an arugula salad I enjoyed. The chicken was juicy, but lacked some flavor. Overall I'm just happy I met and made some new friends! But I won't be back, the owner was incredibly rude, overbearing, and macho. To be honest I have zero desire to spend my money here. My two stars go to the decent food and the otherwise good service I received from the rest of the staff, that I feel bad have to work under such ignorant conditions. I went to Metropolis Saturday evening for a get together with coworkers and friends. It was a beautiful night on the rooftop the staff and the manager were amazing, she took care of us very well. My whole group really enjoyed themselves. Following day went back for Sunday dinner with a couple of friends and the food was great and our server Gabriella was so friendly and attentive. Always checking in on us making sure that we were good and was helpful when we inquired about anything on the menu. Made us feel very welcome. Definitely going back again. Just came here this weekend and the place is unrecognizable vs what it used to be. Super clean, great drinks, and tons of TVs. The rooftop is really nice and has 4 TVs as well. Only downside is you need to eat in order to sit at a table on the roof. That said, since the bar was crowded, the manager let us sit and just drink anyways, which was super nice. Not a problem that they want you to eat (I get it), but they should put more appetizers, shareables, or small plates on the menu to accommodate people who mostly just want to drink and have a light snack. Our server Maia was super attentive despite us not eating! Definitely recommend people try out Metropolis! Looks like a promising Sunday Funday spot for football. read more
