A great varied menu (the beer-and-wine list looked impressive, the food options were all over the place - in a good way). The waiter (an aspiring model/actor/bouncer, for sure!) was top-notch. The complimentary focaccia starter - delicious. When our meals arrived even my kids (teens are never impressed) said they were worthy of being photographed. (And they tasted even better.) One kid went with the pork chop and the way he devoured the Brussel sprout-bacon-apple side I think he forgot that he doesn't even like green vegetables. His brother dug the sliders but wasn't blown away (and if we're nitpicking... my clam-pasta dish could've used a wee bit less lemon juice, but maybe that's just me). Cool staff. Pricing wasn't as outrageous as we feared. It was a total fluke that we found a (free) parking spot when/where we did, don't think we'll ever be that lucky again or we'd definitely come back here again.

Basically, they give you the juices and you pour them in yourself to mix. The staff just refill the Prosecco. For food, my husband got the chicken sandwich, I got the bolognese, my brother-in-law got the egg scramble but wanted his egg fully cooked instead of it's usual sunny-side up and then he didn't eat the salad because of the latest outbreak of whatever. The front of house was warm and welcoming, and our server was one of the best we've had all year. I wish I'd gotten his name, because he's a true pro and they're lucky to have him. The mussels were excellent, and the old fashioned cocktail was very well made. The accompanying bread was a letdown, though. It didn't taste homemade as mentioned, or at least it wasn't their best work. The entrées were where things went further south. The crab mafaldi looked and tasted like it had five times the capers it should have, and their brine seemed to have made its way into the whole dish. We couldn't get past the first bite. The snapper was a nice piece of fresh fish with a good sear, but it was overcooked and dry inside, and it had no salt. Our server and the kitchen kindly obliged when we asked to swap the pasta for the Wagyu burger, and they made another thoughtful gesture for the inconvenience. The burger was delicious and well executed. The special hand-cut fries they treated us to, unfortunately, had no salt at all. I'd planned to try the corn cheesecake, but after the entrées I wasn't in the mood for dessert. Still, the atmosphere is lovely and the potential is obvious, so we'll definitely be back.

We came on a Tuesday night, and the restaurant was very empty. Maybe it was the end of summer, the rainy weather, or simply a slower night, but there wasn't much of a crowd. It's also about five minutes away from all the restaurants on Newark Ave, so perhaps it doesn't get quite as much foot traffic. The restaurant itself is very pretty - neutral colors, high ceilings, and dim lighting make for a really charming atmosphere. Our server was friendly, thorough, and very chatty when walking us through the menu. I believe he was the only server for the entire restaurant, though, so it took quite a while for our drinks to arrive from the bar. Once we ordered our food, however, everything came out very quickly, almost so quickly that I wondered if some of the dishes had already been prepared and were simply waiting to be served. We decided to share four dishes. First was the ahi tuna aguachile. Our waiter described it as being similar to a tuna crudo, but it came out in small chunks, and I didn't really see or taste the mango. This was our least favorite dish of the night. The street corn croquettes were our second least favorite. They arrived lukewarm and didn't really deliver much in the way of street corn flavor. I think they could benefit from a drizzle of Mexican crema and a sprinkle of chili powder or Tajín to bring those flavors out more. Our favorite savory dish was the honey-miso ricotta toast. The flavors were really nice, although I wish the focaccia pieces were larger or that there were at least four instead of three. We also shared the gnocchetti sardi pasta which was just okay. It wasn't particularly flavorful and felt pretty average overall. At $27, I'd much rather have a homemade pasta at Corto. Our second favorite dish of the night was actually dessert. There were only three options, and we were initially on the fence about ordering anything, but I'm glad we went with the toasted marshmallow crème brûlée. It was delicious. Our server also generously comped the dessert after learning we were celebrating my birthday, which was a really nice and unexpected gesture. From the restaurant's website, it looks like the menu changes regularly, and I think there is a lot of potential here. The space is charming, the service was friendly, and there are some good ideas on the menu. Unfortunately, nothing we ate really wowed us, and there weren't any other dishes our waiter described that left us wishing we had ordered them. Overall, I'd give this place another try, especially if the menu continues to evolve. Hopefully we just caught them on a particularly slow night and the restaurant is doing better than the nearly empty dining room suggested. For now, though, this feels like a solid 3-star experience: great ambiance, friendly service, but food that was mostly just average.

I had a much higher expectation for the quality and taste of the chicken. Our server was really friendly. She did a nice job. But they needed about 35 minutes to serve our main course. We utilized the extra waiting time to roam around the restaurant and the neighborhood street.
