So, here's the deal I completely messed up my friend's bridal shower reservation wrong place, wrong city! But let me tell you about the lifesaver of the night Miss Madison! she was a rockstar! I called Halifax in a panic, and Madison managed to snag us a table for seven at 7:00 PM like some kind of seating magician. Seriously, she saved the day. The dinner? Absolutely delicious. The New York strip steak was out-of-this-world good, and we had some awesome appetizers, the drinks were delicious and let me get specific about that Prime New York strip!!!! it was dressed up with the silkiest carrot purée seriously dreamy, sweet pearl onions, a medley of local mushrooms, tender sweet potatoes, and the perfect hit of chimichurri sauce. Every bite was a flavor bomb. But the real standout was the service. Madison didn't just seat us and vanish she checked in, made sure everything was perfect, and genuinely cared about our experience. She even took care of a tiny issue we had like it was a big deal, which made us feel super valued. It had been quite some time since my last visit to Halifax, which I believe was for an Yelp Elite party a year or two ago. So, when a friend recently included it in a list of options for our upcoming dinner, I thought it was time to head back there. As always, the restaurant was stunning with its seductive elegance and floor-to-ceiling views of the Manhattan skyline. The place was more crowded than usual, likely because it was during the winter holiday and tourist were staying at the W Hotel (where the place was located). Immediately after we were seated, our server stopped by to provide some water and to see if we wanted any other drinks, though we declined. Then, throughout the rest of our meal, he was very polite, apologizing any time he came over and interrupted, but he also approached us a bit too frequently. In terms of the food, we started by sharing the Beet Salad with pickled beets, fennel, crumbled goat cheese, baby kale, candied sunflower seeds, and a miso vinaigrette. We both found the salad extremely addicting, which was not the typical reaction a plate of greens would elicit! The fennel and the umami-forward dressing really made the salad impactful and memorable. We then moved onto our main courses, and I went with the Blue Cod, which was served over black rice, braised kohlrabi, and parsnips. The fish was perfectly cooked, but could have used a touch of salt to balance out the flavors in the bowl, especially since the whole thing was served in a creamy oat milk broth with some smokiness from paprika oil. My friend ordered the Saffron Rigatoni, which I sampled as well. The tender pasta had been tossed in a blend of coral butter and lemon with chunks of local lobster and trumpet mushrooms. It was a balance of both land and sea flavors. Our meal at Halifax was very enjoyable and served as a great reminder that I should not forget how lucky I am to have the beautiful dining destination nearby; it was certainly setting the standard for hotel restaurants. But on a sunday evening in June it was a slow day with not as many guests, which kinda made us skeptical at first. Service was polite but the food did take a while to arrive even though it wasnt busy. The bread to start (foccacia) was delicious. I got their pork belly which was amazing! but was on the smaller side; wish it came with something else too like shoe string fries or mashed, or even green beans! lol the fritto misto was tasty too and had nice crunch. lastly i got their orange cheesecake and it was a nice sweet/tangy ending! pricey, smaller in portion but quite good. 4 of my friends and I went to Halifax for Sunday brunch which they have two-hour limits for, hence the reservation times of 10:45/11A, or 1:45/2P. We opted to do the a la carte option but still try at least one of everything under the morning starters and afternoon delights sections. Overall, the food was really disappointing- the smoked chicken on the biscuits and chicken gravy looked and was very unappetizing, the fall squash salad didn't have dressing on it, scones were too hard, the first order of potato poutine we ordered had too much cheese (but the second order we got of it was better), and the french toast was dry with way too much whipped cream on it. I'd say what was better was the mac and cheese, southern style fried chicken (with a different accompaniment than the green bean salad), deviled eggs, and egg wonton. The view of the water and skyline was nice with the floor to ceiling windows, but the music was pretty loud (probably to add to the 2-hour bubbles brunch vibe). Our server Marlon was also nice and attentive. Overall, wouldn't recommend it as a brunch spot in Hoboken to others. read more

The management here is out of their minds. I have been here at least 4 times before. This time we asked for two burgers both medium. One came almost raw. I understand it happens and we kindly asked to bring a new one since this one is not cooked to our liking. No apologies nothing, they take the bitten burger, put the whole thing in a microwave and bring it back. Obviously if you put the full burger into microwave together with lettuce tomatoes and other ingredients it will come out mushy and soft. I call the manager hoping that someone has common sense and ask him if he thinks it's alright to bring such food here. He responded that it's what they always do if it's not cooked enough. Deviled eggs were decent and I'm kind of a snob when it comes to these. Sliders were fancy (ie: bacon onion marmalade) but were throughly solid; wish I got more of these. Fried chicken was a little underwhelming; thigh meat only and the green bean salad was weird. Poutine is impossible to screw up, and even though this was a noveau version it was still tasty. Went here for dinner with a party of six near Christmastime. Restaurant is a hotel restaurant and sits on a corner lot - has a nice view of the city across the river! We were sat in a corner booth table near the window and it was pretty cold. We were a little indecisive and taking our time, and I felt like we were being rushed by our server. The first server we had was not helpful at all - I asked what she'd recommend between the Amish chicken and pork milanese, and she said something to the effect of "don't get the chicken, it's nothing special/very bland". You should NEVER undersell your food even if you don't like it, I was quite surprised by that. After she came back a second time and we still weren't ready to order, they sent a new server to take care of us. She was MUCH more knowledgeable and helped us walk through the menu and recommended favorites. We started with an other of the housemade bread - yes this was tasty but focaccia for $7? The sea lettuce butter was the saving grace. We also ordered some starters - the deviled eggs (and someone else ordered a salad with their meal). Unfortunately, these never came out before our main meals. The server blamed the cold bar station but as the server, it was kind of her job to see if our apps came out... they comped 2 deviled eggs for us to try which was appreciated (and they were tasty). Four of the six of us at the table decided to split various entrees - SAFFRON RIGATONI, RICOTTA GNOCCHI, SMOKED AMISH CHICKEN and KABOCHA SQUASH. I think the ricotta was my favorite - pastas were made in house and very flavorful. Unfortunately the saffron rigatoni was not good at all - there were still a few pieces of uncleaned lobster shell I chewed on, and the pasta was too al dente. A truly delightful dinner, I've heard my friends rave about the brunch, so when I got a chance to go to dinner, I absolutely went! Chef came out and explained a little bit of the Nova Scotia influence on the menu, and it definitely is a lot of seafood! I had such a lovely brunch here with my boyfriend and friends. It is important to make a reservation since it does get very busy. It it located in a hotel by the water front where you can enjoy a beautiful view while having brunch. The great thing about their brunch menu is that is a 10 course with mini bites and unlimited mimosas for 2 hours. You don't need to keep ordering, they just keep bringing you food and refilling your glass. My favorite mini bite was their deviled eggs, we kept ordering more for the table since they were super flavorful. I also really enjoyed their bite sized lox sandwiches. A brunch with a view. We got lucky and ended up with a corner booth by the window and it already started off the experience with a cozy, chic vibe. The food is served tapas style where they bring out their whole brunch menu to the table and once you e tried everything you can choose what plates to reorder. I really love this concept which felt like a mix up of family style and tapas for our group of 8. All the food was delicious especially the maple whip that came with the French toast which I never had before. It was light and fluffy and the perfect alternative to syrup which I'm not a huge fan of. Overall bravo. Service was pretty great too. Let's start with the positives: this place has a very nice location, beautiful view, and decor. However, that's where the positives end. The hostess was extremely rude, never smiled, didn't greet us or give us menus. Overall, there was a strong sense of disregard from her. The service was very slow. Strangely, the waiter took orders from two other tables that arrived after us before taking ours. Also, it took them about 25 minutes to bring us our food. BUT THE WORST PART is that my friend found a hair in her burger . When we told the waiter, he brought her another one, which she didn't even finish. My salad was disappointing: barely any greens, hardly any chicken - not satisfying at all. We were there for brunch, and that night my friend ended up in the hospital because she had a terrible stomach ache and was nauseous all night (sorry for the details, but you have to know it). It was definitely from the burger, as I felt fine (And we ate the same food that day, except for that burger). I have no idea what was in it, you can just judge for yourself. Had a bit of a rollercoaster of an experience at Halifax and the neighboring Living Room bar in the W hotel. We were going out for drinks and dinner for a friend's birthday and upon arriving to the bar at 6pm alerted the waitress that we had dinner reservations at 6:30. She didn't come to take our order after sitting us at a table for about 15 minutes and we finally just went up to the bartender to order directly. We had ordered a couple dirty martinis to which the bartender asked if we wanted blue cheese or regular to which we responded blue cheese. What he didn't mention was that there was an addition $3 per martini which literally came out to $1 per olive that we weren't expecting. We did complain and they were very nice to take it off the bill but we were still a bit taken aback because I have never seen a bar in this area charge extra for blue cheese olives, especially when offering it without mentioning. We were able to finish our drinks in time for our reservation however when we arrived they did not have our table ready so we had to wait another few minutes. When the waiter came to take our order he was extremely distracted by another table and didn't hear us so he had to come back and it took a while to get our drink order in. We did ask to speak to the manager just to explain that the service was performing a bit sub par especially for a birthday celebration and then our evening immediately changed. The servers became extremely attentive to us and even comp'd a couple rounds of drinks and dessert for us. I really appreciated that they took our complaints seriously and realized we were just looking for a fun night with great food. The food doesn't really disappoint here so that was the least of our worries. Overall we had a great night that just started with a few missteps. read more

Halifax is a nice place to get dinner along the Hoboken waterfront. We went for a date night on a Monday and made reservations ahead of time. We did not need reservations, though, as the restaurant was nearly empty. This made us a little worried, but we sat outside and were greeted right away by our waiter. It was a nice night out, and the restaurant has a great view of the skyline if you are seated in the right spot. I would not recommend sitting outside, though, as our entire meal was disturbed by the insane amount of fruit flies that were attempting to eat our food and drink our wine. I know the restaurant has no control over the bugs outside, but I would not at all return to sit outdoors. Our food was all delicious - we got the house bread, the gnocchi, and the banana foster. Everything was unique and well made. However, all of our courses were brought out at the same time, despite us specifically asking for it to come out separately. I am not sure how this happened, but it was very annoying and caused the majority of our food to go cold and for our meal to feel rushed. While I would recommend coming here for the taste and quality of the food, I would stress heavily to be sat inside and for your courses to be brought out separately. read more
