Located on a busy Washington Street in the heart of Hoboken, my close friend's daughter and I decided on this European-inspired establishment for brunch. The reservation was easily made via OpenTable. Upon arrival at La Bouche Cafe as first-timers, we were greeted by the staff and got a table evoking a cozy and inviting vibe with light and airy seating. Outdoor dining is also available, weather permitting. Their menu features French and Mediterranean cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and brunch. We decided on the Avocado Toast with Feta Cheese and French Toast with Fried Chicken. To wash them down, we ordered each a latte. Not sure if we just didn't order the right selections. Sadly, the food wasn't as tasty as we expected. The French Toast wasn't cooked thoroughly, and the Avocado Toast was not touched. The coffee was weak. The price was comparable to the area. La Bouche!?! More like La douche!!! This place was bad in every way. I took my family there, and I asked for a table for four. This was at 11 AM for breakfast. The waiter (a bald middle age man, don't know his name) asked us if we had a reservation. When I said no, he made a face. Keep in mind that there were about 15 tables completely open. There was hardly anyone there. He eventually seated us and was very short and very rude taking drink orders. He also took a very long time between visits to the table. Then when we wanted to add two more children to our table, he made another face and acted so put out. I asked if we could just get another table. He started making faces and grunting. I said is there a problem? He said maybe. You don't have a reservation. I looked around and pointed out that there were 15 empty tables. He said they will be coming. Finally, we got our food and my daughter had a hair in her food. The food was subpar. When it was trying to bring the check, he threw it on the table and did not say a word. I paid the check and gave him a 7% tip. I really did not want to tip him anything, but I figured I would give him something. Again, he did not say a word. No goodbye. No thank you. My first time at La Bouche. I ordered a cappuccino and a hummus; my friend ordered a lemonade and a burger. Food: hummus was good. Burger was very average. The meat was tough. Beverage: this is the only time I wouldn't take a photo of cappuccino to show off. The cappuccino was so so but served in a cup with a big crack on the side close to the handle, there is a new spot just chipped off on the brim. The lemonade tasted very strange like chemical. My friend tipped 18%, I tipped 22% - only because it's still during the Thanksgiving week. We are not going back. read more

This place looks adorable and has earlier hours than most places in Hoboken. The food and coffee, however, were slightly disappointing. My cappuccino was basically cold when it arrived as was the food. The eggs Benedict eggs were hard and the ham on there was basically just lunch meat. The croissant French toast was kinda soggy but the strawberries inside and the strawberry syrup with which it was served was its saving grace. The crepe tasted like most crepes I've had, nothing special but I didn't expect anything spectacular. The eggs Benedict was cooked perfectly. The potato side had an unusual flavor (kind of metallic). I also ordered a chai latte, which was pretty much watery milk, I didn't like it. I wish there was more flavor. The service was really good, waiters were kind and super funny! I'm usually not someone to do this, but I strongly feel that how you treat your customers is a sign of how you run your business. I needed to cancel a reservation of 4 (3 adults, 1 toddler) for 12:30am. My wife has gotten very sick the morning of, I call an hour and a half in advance of the reservation to cancel and instead of understanding get hit with a 60 dollar cancellation fee. These are the types of businesses that clearly only care for the money, and happy to take mine elsewhere. read more

I'd recommend making a reservation, pretty much every table was full. - $3 per person for BYOB, but they don't uncork your bottle...so you're basically paying $3 per person for an ice bucket. That's on top of paying for mimosa mix. - Food was good! I ordered the cheddar and bacon omelet, which was a large portion and came with potatoes on the side. The bacon was on top of the omelet instead of inside, which was interesting. - The potatoes weren't your typical breakfast potato, tasted closer to a potato salad (I prefer mine crispier like home fries, but they were still fine). I started with a London Fog (my newest tea craze) and loved that it wasn't made too sweet. The inside is super tiny and cozy. Think exposed brick and hanging string lights and greenery. I could easily see myself posting up for hours and getting work done here. There are a few tables set up and it was easy to socially distance from other customers. The menu is pretty large and has a variety of brunch and lunch options with a french influence. Sweet and savory crepes, omelettes, croques, breakfast and lunch sammies and more! So much sounded good that it was tough to choose -- especially between sweet and savory! I went with a savory crepe and it was literally as large as an entire dinner plate. The crepe was stuffed with swiss, ham, mushrooms and roasted peppers and it was incredibly satisfying. My friend ordered a salad that looked fresh and delicious and came topped with lots of grilled chicken and goat cheese. Service was friendly and speedy, coffee was strong and overall this was a relaxing and delicious dining experience. I find myself in Hoboken for work every now and again, and if I'm looking for a coffee or lunch spot I will certainly add La Bouche to the list. read more

How I want to love this place more than I did. Entering the restaurant , it's a cute French place beautifully decorated. However was very stuffy and humid so we opted to sit outside. The ambiance itself is very cute. The food looks amazing and has a great presentation but everything lacked greatly and left something to be desired. My French toast was dry, potatoes were not cooked well and the eggs lacked seasoning. My latte was not hot but lukewarm and the chai was not as flavorful as the usual chai lattes I get. The service was another disappointment. The woman who assisted my server was pleasant but my server himself (bald gentleman), was pretentious and not hospitable. His jokes were dry and not welcomed. Overall I have been here multiple times and have always been happy with the food. The mushroom crepe is my favorite and my go to. They are super friendly and always busy. Croquet is also spot on and excellent. I had both of them on their menu and loved both. We ordered a lemonade that oddly never made it to us. So I can't comment on it. The only thing I didn't love was chasing someone down for water. And then I did notice this which really skewed my view. Next time I would probably get a soda or something or bring a water. I guess I didn't read open table restaurant note carefully and did not know La Bouche charged $2 cover fee per person!! I wished they could just tell me on the phone when I called for reservation for 3 people that all reservation subjects to $2 cover fee per person; instead, they told me they don't take reservation over the phone, and asked me to reserve online, which I did, went to their website and was directed to open table for reservation.... Turned out the reservation costs $2 per person. I wished I saw/carefully read the note before I click reserve- big mistake, lesson learned. For people who likes to make reservation (to respect guests and merchant's time), you will be paying extra for respecting time. And you wouldn't know this when you called. Also, no check/bill presented to us before asking us to pay, waitress gave us a total and asked for credit card... I ended up paying first (on behalf of group) and asked for receipt emailing to me. It would be nice if merchant printed out bill/check with itemized cost clearly listed. This should be the basic requirement. The fried egg was overcooked and the entire sandwich was under seasoned (impressive considering it has ham and cheese). It comes with an undressed salad of greens. I also got the eggs Benedict. Again, salad was not dressed. This also came with Lyonaise style potatoes. Let me tell you that I love potatoes but did not like these one bit! They were bland, boiled potatoes that were not very appetizing. On top of that, it had onion skin (the outer layer) mixed in which tells me this cook was pretty sloppy in preparing it. DO NOT order the cappuccino. You WILL be disappointed. I ordered a "small" and got a pitiful half mug of what looked like a latte. No foam, very bland. Ugh. Don't order this or else you will want your money back. We came around 11am, and it wasn't too busy, but there was only one server. The food, the service, and the vibes were all 10/10. We came here on a busy Sunday morning. Luckily, a table opened up and we were seated right away. If we did have to wait, it wouldn't have been a problem since it's located right on Washington street where there are tons of stores and shops to kill some time in. Two small tables were pushed together and while it was a tight squeeze for the five of us, we made it work. Our server was an older gentleman who was very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. He advised us on what "wellness" we should order the burgers based on his chefs. He said that medium rare would be pretty "red" in the center for example. The waitstaff were all very friendly to my dog and even brought her a bowl of water which I greatly appreciated!!! As for the food, I ordered the eggs Benedict which was delicious. I was given a choice of ham or bacon and I chose bacon (of course). The hollandaise sauce was delicious and the poached eggs were cooked perfectly. The location is clean and even though it's pretty small, they do a good job of social distancing and making sure everyone is comfortable. We ordered the eggs Norwegian and the ham and pepper omelet. The omelet was cooked well and everything was tasty. Our only complaint was the toppings were bunched up in sections (one bite would be full of ham, another would predominantly be goat cheese). Cute shop! We came here midday for some late lunch and arrived in a somewhat empty cafe. Our server easily sat us anywhere we wished. She was patient and understanding as we skimmed the menu and concluded with our decision. I ordered a salmon sandwich with cream cheese, onions, and avocado. It was pretty tasty although very salty for my taste. However, it was actually very filling, especially since we hadn't eaten all morning. All food comes with a side salad as well. Overall, La Bouche seems to be a nice alternative for clean eating in a small establishment on the main road in Hoboken. Service was great, the shop was super clean and had a cute brunch style aesthetic with pillows on the bench seats. The one thing that did make the cafe experience not perfect was the temperature of the store. Maybe it was an off day but it was freezing for a cafe where you can eat, drink coffee, and just chill.
