Buvette was able to accommodate me for an early dinner shortly after my arrival in New York, specifically the West Village. Buvette is one of five W. Village eateries helmed by power-chef duo Jody Williams and Rita Sodi; four are within a block of each other. I passed the other three (Bar Pisellino, Via Carota, I Sodi) on my way and all had lines out the door. Carota and Sodi are Italian, Buvette is French. There are 2 other Buvettes in Asia and one coming soon in London. Buvette does not do reservations. Buvette is a charming but tiny/cramped space, made more tiny within the last year by NYC's removal of pandemic-era street patios which greatly helped dining capacity. Buvette may sometimes have a few front sidewalk tables, and there's a tiny outdoor patio in the back. The tables and dishware are also tiny. There's a kitchen in the back, but some food is also prepared below the bar in front, where there seem to be some ovens. The food seems reliably consistent here. The menu is short but there are daily specials. I ordered a non-alcoholic ginger soda, crab tartine (a special), lobster a l'Americaine (lobster pot pie) and frites. The soda is always on the menu and is refreshing, with a nice snap of ginger. The crab tartine was fab, a fresh crab salad with avocado atop toast. The lobster pot pie was made in the under-bar oven, a small serving of lobster and veggies with a golden puff pastry topper. Delish. The frites were nicely crisp, served with an aioli. Service was okay, but my hot food took about 45 minutes to come out, apparently because my ticket was lost. Overall a pleasant meal, my first during this visit. read more

My friend and I came here a few weekends ago for brunch. We knew that they didn't take reservations and we would likely be waiting in line. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait too long as we were asked if we would be willing to sit in their back patio, and we said yes, which absolutely paid off (as most people wanted to sit inside as it was still a little chilly). The ambiance is very cute, albeit the space itself is tiny, so keep that in mind, and tables are very close together, especially inside the restaurant. The menu is not super long, which I appreciated and very simple. I ordered the Belgium waffle and my friend ordered one of the egg dishes. The line for this spot was super long! They pull you based on how many are in a group. Smaller groups will get called faster so parties of one - two. We only waited at buvettes for 5 minutes. Super tiny spot, they had a small outdoor seating area. Be prepared to get really comfortable with your neighbors, you'll be arm to arm or back to back Initially we were seated at the bar but I was literally touching the person next to me. I couldn't move so I asked to sit in the seats next to the bar... those seats were worse. Every person walking by brushes up on you and the table is smaller. Buvette is a cozy French restaurant in West Village. Seating here can be tight here, but I do like how the restaurant looks! I came here at a weekday evening around 6 and it was definitely quite busy. However there were some seating at the bar. Their dishes are small so definitely worth ordering multiple dishes. I had their mussels with fries and the lobster pot pie. I really enjoyed the mussels and the fries were nicely seasoned. Buvette is a charming French spot, that I have been to a few times over the years. The ambiance, service, and food is always great. I was able to walk in on a weekday for brunch, however I know on the weekends there's typically a line. I ordered the Pain Perdu and a hot chocolate. In the past, I have gotten the waffle (which I love) but decided to venture out. Overall, the food was really well done. I saw this place on instagram while looking for breakfast spots in the city and I'm really glad i stopped by their breakfast is so delicious! Food: Waffle sandwich [5/5]: One of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had in greenwich. The Belgian waffle is so delicious, soft, and sweet. The cheese pull on the sandwich was unexpected and so good, the bacon was so sweet and savory and to top it all off the running egg was just a chefs kiss. This sandwich is a must have. I would highly recommend this item even if you're planning on getting something else. Best item on their menu and I don't think anything else could top it. Me and my aunt both really enjoyed this item and would definitely get it again if we're nearby. Belgian waffle [4/5]: This single waffle topped with an assortment of berries was honestly pretty good. It's not visible but it also comes with some type of syrup that's really good. They put the perfect amount not too much or too little. Honestly I liked it. Not as filling as the sandwich but it's still pretty good I wouldn't order this alone but I still recommend getting it if you're curious. Lemonade [4/5]: The lemonade is house made according to our server, Hart. Its really delicious I would've preferred if 85% of the cup wasn't ice because it was honestly delicious not refill for $11 delicious..but it was very delicious nontheless! Ginger soda [4/5]: Its very strong if you're into ginger tea you'd like this since it's basically a cold sparkled version of that. Hart recommended that for my aunt and she loved it a lot. It's also made with a house made ginger syrup. It is really strong though. Also had 85% ice in the cup and 15% of the drink. Ambiance [3/5]: I shouldn't have expected much out of a restaurant in greenwich, EXTREMELY cramped but they have an outdoor seating which honestly wasn't bad I'm not sure why so many people sat inside when outside had heating and was practically empty. Inside is so cramped you're bumping backs with people and the store is very busy as well so there will definitely be a crowd when you go. We waited two minutes for a seat and decided we'd rather sit outside to avoid being on top of people which is one hundred percent the better option. Service [5/5]: The staff was friendly, and they checked up on us. The food came pretty quick despite them being ridiculously busy. There isn't much to say really about the service it was quick, friendly, and efficient. FINALLY after years and years of this place being on my list I got the chance to go over labor day weekend recently. It was delicious, and I can see why they've held their own in the brunch scene of NYC for so long. First, I was impressed by their cafe miel which is a cappuccino/latte of sorts with honey. I am very skeptical of French coffee when they make espresso-based drinks, as I've been burned many times in France by bad coffee. This was excellent - smooth and integrated texture, and not too sweet despite the honey, honoring the excellent quality of both the honey and the coffee. The croque monsieur was delicious as well - you know you have to get it when you get French brunch. The bread was a nice texture, everything was married together nicely and it was nice and savory, though not as impressive as the french toast and chocolate almond croissant. French toast with berries was DELICIOUS. I mean that brioche was soooooo light and fluffy, savory and sweet and such a dream. It was the star of the show. Didn't ask for my server's name, but she's got short, curly brunette hair and she made such good recommendations and was just a joy. Manager, if you see this, please send her my compliments! They have an extensive list of non-alcoholic drinks (just ask your server. I will be back to try the NA margarita). I tried the watermelon lemonde. It's sparkling - which kinda gives the illusion of ferment - but it's sweet and refreshing. The lemon part of the drink isn't super pronounced (it's there, you just have to look for it) but honestly, I'm not mad at it. It's genuinely a very tasty drink and I couldn't recommend it more. I have this place on my list of favorite French fries in the city, and I'm happy to know it still is. If you like a 'limpier' fry - kind of like the ones from five guys - this is a great option. I tried one of their specials; the poulet roti - very simple flavors but very well roasted and juicy. Tiny French restaurant in the West Village and you definitely feel like you are in Europe because the tables are tiny and everything is smooshed together. However, every single time we get the waffle sandwich with Sunnyside up eggs and crispy bacon. We had a lovely Saturday brunch at Buvette, a charming little French spot. It was busy around 11 AM, and we waited about 40 minutes, but it was worth it! The helpful staff managing the line checked in often with updates, and the servers were all very attentive. Just a heads up, your whole party needs to be physically present before you can be seated. The space is a bit tight, but the food made up for it. We had cappuccinos one with oat milk and one with regular milk, ginger tea (which I really enjoyed), freshly squeezed OJ so good, chevre the steamed eggs that were so fluffy and light, pain perdu that wasn't too sweet, croque madame, waffle sandwich, and almond croissants. I can't stop thinking about their steamed eggs. They are insanely fluffy, buttery, creamy and rich - literally melt in your mouth texture. My friend and I shared the Chèvre. The cottage cheese intensifies the richness of the eggs, and the sun-dried tomatoes cut through the fattyness. The toast ended up soaking all the oil and it was drenched in flavor. Areived ~10:45 am on a Saturday for a party of two, and was seated ~11:25 am. The staff was communicative on timing while on line and frequently checked in. You can sometimes get in more quickly if open to bar seating. Pain Perdue: The Brioche bread was spongy and bouncy, and absorbed the crème well for flavorful bites. It was not very sweet, which I was pleasantly surprised by. Not sure I would get this as a standalone item, but it was nice to split. Jambon Cru: The star of the show. Despite this, we were seated fairly quickly since all the groups ahead of us were larger parties, and they were able to fit my boyfriend and me in the garden. Went for lunch and had a terrible experience. First when we asked for a table , the host/waitress asked us to wait on the bench and she would get us. We realized as time went on that she was actually seating other walk ins who arrived after us. So we went in and it turns out she had forgotten about us. When we went to order, the waitress could not answer basic menu questions. I ordered the chèvre eggs and they were so bad. They arrived impossibly fast and were clearly just from a tray of eggs that had been made earlier and were watery, oily, bland and congealed. The toast they came with was stale. wish i read more yelp reviews before coming here. i really wanted to love buvette due to its charm as i thought it was cute and quaint in pictures. however, this establishment, especially the service, left a bad taste. walking in, with my orange juice bottle in hand, this may be important for later. we were quickly sat and i placed my bottle on the table. we then ordered and received our food. to be honest, the food was average and basic. halfway through eating, i was told by an older server to save my orange juice for later (?) or to put it away (?) with no explanation. i honestly don't even know what he exactly said other than him being abrupt and pointing at my bottle with an impatient and serious face. this completely left a sour taste in my mouth, no pun intended. it's just weird because i'm sure the other server(s) that sat us, took our order, and dropped off our food saw it, but didn't say anything. consequently, i put it away. and yes, before all this i took a couple sips inside, but there were no visible signs stating "no outside food or drinks." while i get, there may be legitimate reasons why food establishments may enforce this rule, it wouldn't hurt to communicate about it politely. or just post a visible sign. sad to say our only major interactions with the staff was this orange juice bottle issue. in the end, food was mediocre, service was uhm questionable, and the ambiance is cute. however, in my honest opinion, the ambiance doesn't make up for the rest. tldr: it's not worth it. read more
