I remember the older Pastis when it was located at the corner of Little West 12 Street & 9th Ave. While the art, fashion, and literary glitterati that were mainstays of the prior NYC Pastis are no longer omnipresent, the newer iteration still draws a lively and visually appealing crowd. Pastis is a successful formula with iterations in Miami and Washington D.C., with each location preserving much the same idealized Paris-brasserie ambience. Its recurring visual vocabulary includes a curved zinc bar, white subway tile (both reclaimed and new), red or maroon banquettes, bentwood-style chairs, globe pendant lights, large mirrors, and a warm, slightly golden wash of light. A large, mostly French menu offers something for everyone, unless you happen to be a lactose-intolerant vegetarian. Similarly, the cocktails list and wines-by-the-glass offer broad appeal. On my last visit of 26 March 2026, the warm shrimp salad, tuna crudo, and hamburger were all flavorful and suitably portioned (neither small nor large). Some dishes, including the poulet à la diable, are quite generous and are best shared by two. Oyster lovers should also be happy here. In short, Pastis remains a dependable Meatpacking standby: solid French food, a buoyant room, and prices that sting less than they might elsewhere.

The ambiance here feels like a big family party. There's conversations across every sector of the space and everyone is just enjoying a homey feel. The staff are really nice, they are attentive and always an earshot away to honor your request. I don't know if I would compare it to the original space, but it does feel like a throwback to old times. If you're here for a special occasion, definitely get the lobster frites. It is splurge-worthy but it is really good. The duck 'o larange was good as well, but I expected a lot more duck than what was on the plate. It was only 2 slices of duck for basically $40, not worth it. It is worth going to at least once if you live in New York.

Restaurant is spacious inside with outside seating available. The food tasted great. I was a little surprised at the eggs and soldiers- I thought they would crack it open before it got to the table but honestly it was very simple to do it myself. I walked in on a Wednesday for brunch with one other. No reservations needed although they still took down my number in their system which gave them my name and they greeted me by name which was nice. Service was speedy.

Good food, great service and a lively atmosphere added to a wonderful dinner experience. We went on an early Sunday evening and it was already packed. We had reservations at 4pm so we got seated fairly quickly. The staff were attentive and food came out fairly quickly. Ordered the French onion soup, ravioli, Mac and cheese and chicken paillard. Everything was very tasty. The ravioli had a fluffy light filling, not heavy at all. The French onion soup had a great rich flavor without being overly salty. The Mac and cheese also had a light creamy sauce. Everything was seasoned perfectly. We ordered the creme brûlée and raspberry sorbet. Creme brûlée was actually a nice size, perfect for sharing. It was good but I would probably try another desert next time. Would definitely come back again on our next trip to NY.

Absolutely adore this place and sitting at the bar on Tuesday and splitting a sticky coffee pudding on NYD???? Insane high! Split the green salad and the pudding and both were lovely. They also have a really good burger and French onion soup here. They even had a live jazz band playing, and I just love the atmosphere (get me to the Paris location)- great matchboxes and bathroom too. 10/10 always recommend

Okay so I heard this restaurant was hard for walk-ins because of how packeddd it gets but I would agree to make reservations. I went at 3pm without reservations it was packedddd barely room to walk. I ordered the bar steak frites was $37. This my first time seeing a bar steak on a menu whatever when my food finally arrived I thought about how cute this steak was first bite of the steak I would say it was succulent tender and the interior was a medium pink. I love the fries just regular raight crispy fries. I had better steak frites but it's not worth the hype. The size of the steak could be on a child menu after eating that lunch I wanted something else to eat. Don't believe the hype!!!!

A Parisian Gem That Truly Delivers I only came because my friend booked it and I'm so grateful they did! I can't believe Pastis wasn't already on my radar. From the moment I walked in, it felt like stepping into a chic Parisian café with warm lighting, lively energy, and that unmistakable brasserie charm. We started with the tuna crudo and escargot, and both were phenomenal. The escargot was the best I've ever had, tender, buttery, and full of garlicky, herbed flavor, served with perfectly toasted bread to soak up every drop. The tuna crudo was light and refreshing, with bright citrus notes that balanced the richness beautifully. Then came the cheeseburger à l'Américaine Two juicy smashed beef patties layered with melted American cheese, crisp pickles, thinly sliced red onion, and a tangy special sauce on a soft seeded bun. It looked beautiful and somehow tasted even better. Each bite made me smile; it melted in my mouth with a burst of flavor that was pure perfection. Served with a generous pile of golden, crispy french fries, this was a full, satisfying meal. The fries were incredible, crisp on the outside, fluffy inside, and perfectly seasoned. We also shared the steak, lobster frites, and steak sandwich, and each one was exceptional, tender, flavorful, and unmistakably French in execution. And then, the profiteroles , my absolute favorite dessert of the night. Vanilla ice cream tucked inside soft yet slightly crunchy pastry shells, topped with a rich, bittersweet chocolate fudge that tasted homemade. It wasn't overly sweet, just perfectly balanced, indulgent, and absolutely divine. That chocolate sauce alone deserves its own spotlight! Pastis NYC completely exceeded my expectations. The food, the atmosphere, the service, everything was flawless. It's a true New York treasure with the heart and soul of Paris. I'm already planning my next visit!

Hello again everyone back again with another review and this restaurant I really wanted to go to ever since my gf brought it to my attention. She's been at least 3 other times before going with me. It's a big restaurant with plenty of tables but boy does it get really busy on a Sunday evening. It was all good because the service and food was great and you couldn't beat that. This is the restaurant Rihanna and A$AP Rocky go to all the time so it's pretty known. For apps we had to start with oysters and of course they were really good. Also got the Ricotta ravioli which *chefs kiss*. For the entree I seen they had Lamb as a special for Sunday and I had to get it because obvious reasons. For drink I had to get the espresso martini and that was the best 1 I ever had hands down. I would go back here no questions asked.

I hadn't been to Pastis since they reopened several years ago. My friend and I decided to grab dinner and we sat outside to enjoy the beautiful weather. The service was very good and the food was as good as I remembered it being. My friend got the steak frites and I got the warm shrimp salad which was delicious. I would definitely come back here again!

Go hungry. Hard to not order the classics but first timer so couldn't help it. We had a reservation. It was a busy night. We had to wait about 10-15 min before being seated. No biggie. It can be loud but once we were in our booth felt intimate and could still hear my company. This leek app was unique and really enjoyed it. Steak tartare melted in your mouth. Couldn't resist the French onion soup. Rich and flavorful. Mussels were a good choice for a lighter main after all the apps. Didn't have the steak items but they had good things to say. Even though a fairly trendy place we had a good experience. Oh and our waiter was great!

Cuisine: 8 Service: 8 Decor: 8 Value: 5 Overall: 8 When I'm in the mood for some classic French fare, this restaurant never disappoints. Located in the middle of the Meat Packing District, Pastis is simply one of NYC's epicurean institution. The prices are definitely reflective of its targeted audience and the neighborhood, but the food is always amazing. Here is what I had recently. Steak Tartare (9/10) - A relatively classic preparation with capers and mustard. Nearly everything I want in my tartare, though I could use a little more zing. Onion Soup (7/10) - Not a bad broth, I can taste the onions, just a bit salty. I would also have preferred the cheese to be slightly more burnt. Escargots (8/10) - Small tender snails soaked in garlic-parsley butter. The dish did not look pretty, but tasted good. The crusty baguette that paired with the escargots was fabulous. Foie Gras Parfait (10/10) - I love foie gras, any way I can get it. This smooth and rich version on a nice soft toast paired with rhubarb compote is just fantastic. Soft Shell Crab (8/10) - This was the Tuesday special. Lightly battered, juicy and plump crabs that tasted clean and fresh. Tartar sauce was not my favorite. Trout Amandine (7/10) - Not sure you can cook the almond slices any more perfect. Same goes for the crunchy green beans. However, trout is just a fish that I find to be a bit too firm, even when cooked properly, which they did. Service is also on par with quality of the cuisine. When we asked for extra toast and baguette, they arrived at our table warm in minutes. This was the first time I took my parents to this restaurant and likely not the last. They absolutely lived the experience as I expected.

Yum this place doesn't miss! Definitely make a reservation ahead of time because it gets crowded in here, but once seated, every dish is fantastic and the service is top notch. One of the best French onion soups I've ever had

I had a 7pm reservation, but was running late, and they were flexible and told me to come any time. Upon my arrival, I was seated by the piano. The pianist playing that night, Andrew Abrahamsen, was very talented. He played an eclectic mix of songs, including "I Will Survive," Disney's "When You Wish Upon a Star," and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." As the night went on, he played Happy Birthday for me, and went on a 90s Disney Renaissance spree, playing songs including "Go the Distance" from Hercules, "Out There" from Hunchback of Notre Dame, "Beauty and the Beast," and "You've Got a Friend in Me" from Toy Story. Ordered black tiger shrimp for my entree. It smelled wonderful, and especially peppery once the waiter added pepper to it. The risotto the shrimp sat on was also very delicious. I ended up taking this to go, and it still tasted great later on! For dessert, I chose the lemon tart brûlée with raspberry sorbet. It came with "Happy Birthday" written on the plate with chocolate, and a candle on the sorbet. As always, the ambiance and decor is very beautiful, with portraits of Josephine Baker to honor the revolutionary badass woman. Thanks for the great birthday dinner, Chez Josephine!

I came here for dinner post showtime and my son and I over ordered but happily enjoyed everything. I think our eyes are way bigger than our stomachs. Starters: - French onion soup, au gratin, was perfect. Great onion profile and lots of it. Not overly salty so that was good. - Beef tartare, classic French bistro staple, must order this. The portion was quite generous and it was delicious. We couldn't stop eating it. The petite toasts were a nice accompaniment as well as the raddiccio salad - cheese board, IYKYK, I never met a cheese I didn't like. This board was matched with nice pairings. Think grapes, fig jam, and marcona almonds. The cheese were a classic French variety - bleu, comte and brie. For our entrees, my son opted for a sandwich and I got the steak. His croque Madame was really delicious. The bread, the ham, the baked cheese and the fried egg was so savory. Yummy. My steak was a sizeable portion but I purposely ordered the bigger ounces since I know we'd share. Fries are nice and skinny, perfectly seasoned. Our waiter was attentive and I asked for the table next to us given all the food I know we were getting. He was not sure if he could accommodate but I insisted he check with management. They came over and put it together for me. I appreciated that given a table for two, for how much we ordered, it'd never fit. Totally would return. If you like French food, this is a solid spot to try.

This space felt larger than the other locations I've been to, while still keeping the same cozy, charming, and beautiful vibe that defines their brand. We were a party of three, and each of us ordered different sandwiches and pastries. I got the Katie's Chicken Sandwich, which is one of my absolute favorites and something I order almost every time I'm visiting the city. For pastry, I tried the Cherry Croissant Cube for the first time, and I was honestly speechless. It was incredibly flavorful, delicious, and truly made my day. I 100% recommend trying it. For drinks, I ordered the seasonal Cherry Elderflower Spritz. It was just okay compared to everything else, but not bad. Overall, Maman continues to be my go-to brunch place in NYC, and this visit reminded me exactly why.

Unnecessary confrontation over a 5-minute early pickup…read more I'm a regular Too Good To Go customer and have picked up bags from Maman before without issue. This visit was a frustrating exception. The app activated the swipe button shortly after 5PM -- which Maman and several other stores have recently started allowing as an early pickup signal. I went to the store accordingly. The young male Hispanic employee at the register refused to hand over my bag, insisting the pickup window didn't start until 5:15. All the bags were already packed and ready. There were no other customers in line. I tried to explain how the app works and that early pickup had been allowed here before, but he repeatedly cut me off. At one point I said "if you want to play by the book, so be it" -- meaning it as a neutral acknowledgment. He took offense, raised his voice, and kept repeating "I don't play, you play" in an increasingly hostile tone. I asked if he understood the expression. He just kept repeating "I don't play." When I asked to speak with a manager, he said there wasn't one. When I asked what a customer is supposed to do when there's a problem with an employee, he told me to come back tomorrow and talk to him. This was completely avoidable. The bags were ready. It was a 5-10 minute window, allowed by the app. The confrontation served no purpose. I noticed the review posted the day before mine mentions "poor customer service at the register" -- I suspect we encountered the same person. Maman has a good reputation worth protecting. I'd encourage management to review this interaction and make sure this particular staff is trained properly.

The frites were the best I've had - super thin and crunchy and the mussels were fantastic in a delicious white wine sauce and again a LARGE portion. We were left happy and full - the Bordeaux Blanc we ordered was perfect to go with it all.

While the French Onion soup was still a stand-out dish, the painfully slow service detracted. There appeared to be a single waitress working. I didn't notice during my first visit if there were multiple servers, but the first time I did hear the waiter advise another table that the kitchen was behind and there would be a wait for food. (This didn't affect me since on my first visit I only ordered soup.) Same thing happened this time, and there was a significant delay between our soup/salad course and entrees. We were told the kitchen was backed up. this is apparently the norm. For appetizers, the French onion soup was a gold star dish. My friend had the goat cheese salad which she said was also very good. The Chicken Cordon Bleu was good, and a hard-to-find dish in NYC. While eating our entrees, the server never checked on how things were or if we needed anything. Once finished, we sat there for a long time waiting for our plates to be cleared, and finally had to "announce" that we were done and request our dessert (as we had ordered the prix fixe menu). For dessert we ordered the Dame Blanche and Profiteroles. I would recommend neither. The ice cream (in both) was poor quality, crystallized and not creamy. A real shame. In all, the meal too 2.5 hours due to the slow service. The soup remains fantastic. I'm downgrading my review to recommend this spot only for soup and salad and not a full, hours-long meal. For that, it's 5 stars, for a full meal a middling 3.
