The place oozes style. From the Gascon-styled greeter with his pointed waxed mustache, in a flat-toped, wide-brimmed hat and suit, who invited us into the cloth-shrouded foyer, to the hostess who answered all my wife's questions about the prix-fix menu and bar options, to the tastefully chandeliered dining room appointed with Moorish flourishes, with wide open doors to take advantage of the gorgeous weather. While one can order ala carte, the restaurant's focus is the four-course prix-fix menu, which we and everyone around us ordered. The cocktails were spot on. I had the "Smokey," an excellently balanced, mescal-based sour on the rocks. My wife had the "Lemon," a bright gin beverage served in a coupe, reminiscent of a French 75. This was the first of the two decisions one has to make. The next was the entrée. I chose the Hanger steak. My wife, the branzino. The third option is a portobello mushroom dish, the fourth a burger. The food started with an amuse-bouche of broth from a French Onion soup and fresh bread served with soft butter and a ratatouille-like spread, moving on to an ample Champagne vinaigrette-dressed mesclun salad, which had large leaves of perfectly crunch lettuces, herbs, and other field greens. Then, began the unlimited service of simply excellent fries, taken straight from the fryer into a seasoning bowl and piled high into a wax paper-lined stand in the center of the table. Rounds and rounds and rounds of fries that are hard to stop eating. No ketchup. A stand of 6 sauces, from Au Poivre to Béchamel to an Aioli. The perfectly cooked mid-rare steak--better than some steakhouses I've been to came, and my wife's branzino, well seasoned, moist and with crispy skin (which I got ). Pleasantly gorged, we were finally served the berries and cream. Not too heavy and just the right amount of sweet. The only fault, my Cahors didn't come on time. The usually attentive staff didn't pick up on my looking around for the waiter. Half my steak was gone by the time it arrived. Still, it was a brilliant meal, in elevated environs. Came here last night for my friend's birthday. Not only is the place absolutely gorgeous, but the service was amazing. The host and our waiter were both gems and so sweet and attentive to us. The french onion soup was OUTSTANDING. I wanted five more shots. The hanger steak was unbelievably tender and all of the sauces were so good. The fries are some of the best I've had in the city, and the green sauce for it was my absolute favorite. If you can get a reservation, definitely try this out for a nice date night or GNO. I finally had the chance to visit Sirrah and was not expecting to have one of the best meals of my entire life. The experience and atmosphere is incredible. I chose the prix fix meal with the steak and fries. Everything was cooked to perfection. Your meal comes with a giant sauce tower. As a sauce girl, this perk was a dream. Each piece of the meal was immaculately balanced and flavorful, from the starter French onion broth to the endless crispy fries (truly the best in the city). Do not forget about the martinis. I had a very strange experience. All servers had to explain to everyone there that they have options other than what's on the prefix menu yet they push everyone to order pre fix (where a steak is the same price as a mediocre burger or portobello mushroom.) I have still yet to see other menu items or prices. They do a French fry presentation that felt like a parody, but the server was very enthusiastic about dumping fries in a cup that fall all over the table. Anyway, the steak was good, fries were solid but needed more salt for me. It would have been nice to have a shaker on the table. I went to Sirrah for my birthday dinner and absolutely LOVED it. The vibes are immaculate -- dark, sexy, and moody. It's literally the perfect spot for a girls' night dinner. It's a prefix menu, and they started us off with an onion consommé and bread service. The consommé was divine -- rich in flavor and such a cozy, warm way to start the meal. The salads were good but nothing particularly special. For the main course, we had the hanger steak, and it was cooked perfectly. The fries were also great, especially with all the different dipping sauces. They knew it was my birthday, so they surprised me with a slice of ice cream cake, which was so good. The berries and cream included in the prefix menu were also delicious -- the vanilla cream was especially smooth and flavorful. Our server, Matthew, was very nice and attentive, and honestly all of the staff were incredibly sweet. Overall, we loved both the experience and the food. We're always excited to try a new steak frites place so when we heard about Sirrah, we came to check it out. Located in the Chelsea area, this restaurant is huge. There's lots of space and it's beautiful. When the weather is nice they open the glass windows to the outside area which seems to confuse patrons as they all try to enter through there instead of the front door. Let's talk about the food. It's a $75 prefix menu with additional sides and supplements you could add. The French onion soup that they start with is an espresso sized cup of consomme. Delicious and warm. Then you move onto bread from Zabar's and a salad. The salad is lightly dressed and very balanced. Now let's talk steak and fries. I wished my steak was a bit more rare but it was fine. The fries are definitely cooked in beef fat because they taste like McDonald's used to. And that's not a bad thing. They're also unlimited so they'll keep on refilling them. The sauces is where I find could use some work. I love au poivre sauce and I felt it didn't have any peppercorn in it. And the sauces for the fries were almost too rich. The broccoli side has a hint of curry and was great. Finally you finish off with berries and creme. A classic and delicious dish. And service here is great. Starting off with the bread nothing special going on here, though the butter was quite delicious. To the Salade Verte, the dressing was quite strong, almost a hint bitter. I was personally a fan I love a good vinaigrette but my partner wasn't. However the french onion soup they brought out as well paired surprisingly well with the salad! Along with the bread which made me happy. To the main course, we both decided to follow the menu and get a hanger streak. This might have been one of the best steaks I've had before which really shocked me considering how many different places we've tried. It also comes with three steak sauces and three fry sauces, which was a good selection! I was sad of how little steak it was but maybe that's because of how much I enjoyed it. Very flavorful and juice 10/10. In addition to our dinner we decided to get mac and cheese which... was extremely disappointing. I don't know if it was the type of cheese they used but one bite in and It was a no for me... so be aware! Sirrah NYC: When "Fine Dining" Fails Guests with Food Allergies My best friend and I chose Sirrah NYC for a birthday celebration expecting an elevated NYC fine-dining experience. Unfortunately, the restaurant failed repeatedly in handling celiac disease and dairy allergies, which turned what should have been a celebratory evening into a frustrating one. My gluten and dairy allergies were clearly communicated in advance and confirmed upon arrival. However, once service began, my dairy allergy was ignored. I was encouraged to order a steak finished with butter and presented with sauces containing dairy. When I pointed this out, the only solution offered was ketchup. The final straw came with dessert. Despite already addressing allergy issues multiple times, we were told dessert would be berries and cream. When reminded that dairy was not an option, the response was simply that the cream would be "on the side." This is not a safe or acceptable accommodation for someone with medically necessary dietary restrictions. Restaurants charging fine-dining prices should understand that food allergy safety and cross-contamination awareness are not optional. Based on this experience, I would not recommend Sirrah NYC to anyone with serious food allergies. I am sharing this experience factually and without exaggeration so that guests with food allergies can make informed dining decisions. read more

While the decor is attractive, and the cocktails were well made, the price fixe meal is a pastiche of what an authentic French restaurant would serve. The experience is more of an attempt at culinary theater than an exemplary meal. The French onion amuse-bouche was good, but it was a far cry from authentic French onion soup. The bread service was underwhelming, consisting of a few pieces of crusty baguette that obviously were store-bought, and the salad, despite its "authentic" champagne vinaigrette, was tasty but similar to what is served en masse. Yet it was the most hyped attraction, the "endless" French fries, that were a disappointment as they were not remotely Pomme or Steak Frites but rather what you would expect from a fast food restaurant - my wife said McDonald's fries are better. The Truffle supplement was a bit intriguing, as despite the show of its presentation, it has no aroma or taste, and as to whether it was an actual "Italian truffle" or a truffle for that matter remains a $15 mystery. The entrees were adequate - the optional 6 oz. Filet Mignon was ok and better than the hanger steak in appearance and taste, and my wife enjoyed her fish. The berries and creme dessert, which, like the salad, was what you would expect at a large-scale event, and the optional cake, a supposed tribute by the chef to a Carvel ice cream cake of his youth, was bland and paled in comparison to the real thing. The servers were pleasant, albeit a bit disorganized, and the music was loud enough to drown out your ability to discern that the meal was far more about a cost-calculated presentation of food than the desire to create a quasi-over-the-top French dining experience. I had my birthday dinner for twelve people on a Saturday night at Sirrah, and I could not have asked for a better experience. I highly recommend this restaurant. It is perfect for a group dinner because the prix fixe menu takes the guesswork out of ordering for many people. The menu consisted of unpretentious French bistro food that is just done consistently well. It consisted of a French onion soup consomme, salad, an entree choice of branzino or hanger steak (both done beautifully), and a berries and cream dessert. The vegetable sides were solid. We brought a birthday cake as well, which they cut and served for us (for a cake cutting fee), and also gifted me a complimentary slice of cake with a candle. The star of the show was the unlimited fries (some of the best fries I've ever had), and the mustachioed smiling gentleman in charge of replenishing them at every table brought so much joy to the evening. Sure, some might think that overflowing the receptacles and dumping fries onto the table might be a little gimmicky, but for a celebratory occasion, it's exactly what I wanted. I personally think it's a genius idea. When looking for a restaurant, I care equally about the quality of food as well as the ambience. Sirrah managed to meet expectations in both aspects. My friends and I have relatively high standards for food, and we were all pleased. The decor consisted of French chandeliers, plush velvet couches, fun fringe pillows, beautiful wall art, and mood lighting - perfect for a celebratory dinner. While I was setting up the table with party favors, my friends were also able to get pre-dinner drinks at a separate enclave with a cocktail bar, which was a nice touch. Lastly, the manager/owner (?) was so kind to us and gave us multiple rounds of complimentary shooters (one lemon-flavored and one espresso martini) at the end of the night.
