Incredible! Would make a trip back to New York just to go to this restaurant. This used to be such a nice area, but like much of New York (and other major cities) the hood has fallen into disrepair. But the restaurant itself is an oasis. The service first class.

I came here for my birthday and man was I impressed by this restaurant. You would never expect that this place is sitting right by Chinatown and Soho because once you step inside you are transported to a world of fine dining. I got a bunch of stuff on the menu (which honestly 6 dishes for two people is way too much). I honestly could have skipped the appetizers because there was nothing really special about it but I got the lobster and the veal sweatbreads (this was the best thing ive ever eaten). And of course they spoiled us afterwards (when I was already about to explode from how full i was) with some mini madeleines and the passion fruit dessert. I had such a great experience here!

Had an outstanding birthday dinner. Everything was incredible. Food, service, cocktails, wine pairings. The room was comfortable and we didn't feel rushed as we enjoyed the many courses. We loved it and definitely recommend!

The atmosphere and service are top notch. Roberto is great, along with the rest of the crew. The food was good, but I've had better, tried a great white wine though. Overall a lovely evening.

Every dish was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. You can really taste the quality and care that goes into the food. It felt like more than just dinner, it was an experience. I'm so happy I chose Le Coucou for my birthday and would absolutely recommend it for anyone looking to celebrate something special

Beautiful restaurant with top notch service. The food was delicious. My favorite was the yellow tail, and steak tartare with caviar - the eggplant was also delicious.

I took my husband for dinner at Le Coucou for his birthday. This place has been on my list for a little bit- and it didn't disappoint- we were both impressed by the whole experience at this restaurant. Every single detail about the restaurant felt intentional and luxurious, and the ambiance was lively! Got a bit loud at times due to bigger groups cheering or just many people talking at the same time. Maybe not a romantic vibe but def cool vibes. The staff were so kind and attentive. They also made sure to wish my husband happy birthday many times! The food met our expectations and drinks were well made. Every bite was a delight- the chartreuse creme brulee was cherry on top! One small detail- make sure you dress the part!!!! Like they call it on their website " Elegant for a NYC night out", jackets not required, but do dress to impress! ;) Thanks Le Coucou!

The staff was amazing, so warm, attentive, and genuinely kind the entire time. The food was very delicious, everything we ordered was fresh, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. Overall, one of the best restaurants I've been to. I totally recommend it and will definitely be coming back.

Came here for a family dinner and wow was I blown away by the interior! The ambiance is very upscale chic but cozy-- I loooove how each table comes with its own candle light. Service was 10000/10 amazing-- def worth its Michelin star title. - Beef tartare with caviar: 10/10 (beef tartare + caviar... how can you go wrong? It was an amazing appetizer, but def priceyyyy) - Fried monkfish: 10000/10 (omg the crispy monkfish and the slightly citrus sauce + fresh cucumber combo was to die for) - Duck: 10/10 (really good duck) - Passion fruit sorbet: 100/10 (creamy and tangy) - Crème brûlée: 10/10 (classic take on crème brûlée and it was done very well) - Wine: 10/10 (fantastic wine choices but def pricey)

The fanciest French place I have ever been. So elegant, so much more to explore. Such a beautiful table setup and everything. The service was amazing. Wish the food would amuse us more but that was great.

Le Coucou is elegantly decorated with definite French vibes. Every employee was also very well dressed. We went for my birthday, which I wouldn't mind coming again. We did the "a very coucou dinner" which was around 220 per person for a four course menu. We skipped out on the wine pairing or cocktails because of pregnancy. I thought everything was done well. But my fellow diners didn't think one course stood out though. For the first course, we really enjoyed the tomatoes with the tonatto dip. I appreciated that they divided the rabbit course into 3 for us. I appreciated how simple the broth was. We ended with a lobster and steak course. The menu seems seasonal so I would come back again.

I had high expectations for this place and have meant to try it for a while. The ambiance was wonderful, however, that was essentially it. Food bland, service unattentive. If you're looking for a place that actually appreciates its customers this ain't it.

The food is good, not mind blowing. Service is good and vibes are nice. It's not a huge space but it's meant to be intimate. The vol-au-vent Coucou was delicious and my favourite dish. The flavors blended well together with the crunchiness of the puff pastry. They gave me some extra dessert candies since I was sick and had a cough.

    Do they offer tasting menu?

How much gratuity do they add here and is it optional? Is 4 people a large group?

Gratuity is up to you. Large parties usually are charged a teasonable amount, although I do not know how much here. I generally leave 25% when all goes well.

Can i come here just for a drink at the bar, or is it really just a restaurant?

Small bar area, not a drinking bar. Mor of a wsit for table bar... but you could go and order drinks.

    Dress code for guys?

    Just dress sharp.

Are you still sell lamp and raw beef tartar? I searched your menu , but didn't see them for dinner.

No, parts of the menu changes with the seasons.

    Good but very pricey?

Good, yes. Great...no. In my opinion, it's not worth the price when there are plenty of places that are. Hope this helps!

I had a 7pm reservation, but was running late, and they were flexible and told me to come any time. Upon my arrival, I was seated by the piano. The pianist playing that night, Andrew Abrahamsen, was very talented. He played an eclectic mix of songs, including "I Will Survive," Disney's "When You Wish Upon a Star," and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." As the night went on, he played Happy Birthday for me, and went on a 90s Disney Renaissance spree, playing songs including "Go the Distance" from Hercules, "Out There" from Hunchback of Notre Dame, "Beauty and the Beast," and "You've Got a Friend in Me" from Toy Story. Ordered black tiger shrimp for my entree. It smelled wonderful, and especially peppery once the waiter added pepper to it. The risotto the shrimp sat on was also very delicious. I ended up taking this to go, and it still tasted great later on! For dessert, I chose the lemon tart brûlée with raspberry sorbet. It came with "Happy Birthday" written on the plate with chocolate, and a candle on the sorbet. As always, the ambiance and decor is very beautiful, with portraits of Josephine Baker to honor the revolutionary badass woman. Thanks for the great birthday dinner, Chez Josephine!

I made a reservation to be safe, as many restaurants now ask if you did so. This place is quite packed every night so it was the way to go. I came here for dinner post showtime and my son and I over ordered but happily enjoyed everything. I think our eyes are way bigger than our stomachs. Starters: - French onion soup, au gratin, was perfect. Great onion profile and lots of it. Not overly salty so that was good. - Beef tartare, classic French bistro staple, must order this. The portion was quite generous and it was delicious. We couldn't stop eating it. The petite toasts were a nice accompaniment as well as the raddiccio salad - cheese board, IYKYK, I never met a cheese I didn't like. This board was matched with nice pairings. Think grapes, fig jam, and marcona almonds. The cheese were a classic French variety - bleu, comte and brie. For our entrees, my son opted for a sandwich and I got the steak. His croque Madame was really delicious. The bread, the ham, the baked cheese and the fried egg was so savory. Yummy. My steak was a sizeable portion but I purposely ordered the bigger ounces since I know we'd share. Fries are nice and skinny, perfectly seasoned. Our waiter was attentive and I asked for the table next to us given all the food I know we were getting. He was not sure if he could accommodate but I insisted he check with management. They came over and put it together for me. I appreciated that given a table for two, for how much we ordered, it'd never fit. Totally would return. If you like French food, this is a solid spot to try.

I myself got the Saint Jacques Grilles (scallops with risotto and porcini sauce) which to me was cooked to perfection. The scallops were buttery soft, the risotto the right texture and taste. My mother and aunt both had the steak Frites, they liked their steaks but thought the fries were a touch salty. Then came desserts and I had the crème brûlée, my aunt and mom shared the chocolate mousse, and my brother, his girlfriend and my father all had the chocolate lava cake. Out of the three: the chocolate lava cake was #1. Then chocolate mousse then crème brûlée. The restaurant dimmed the lights and had soft music on. My sister ordered the Moules Marinieres which I think was the winner. It came with fries and a few small dishes of green beans. The Buf Bourguignon was rich and hearty. I've been craving a soufflé, and I'm not an expert but I wish I hadn't poured all the sauce in as the mariner was fairly strong and almost overpowered the soufflé in flavor. While the French Onion soup was still a stand-out dish, the painfully slow service detracted. There appeared to be a single waitress working. I didn't notice during my first visit if there were multiple servers, but the first time I did hear the waiter advise another table that the kitchen was behind and there would be a wait for food. (This didn't affect me since on my first visit I only ordered soup.) Same thing happened this time, and there was a significant delay between our soup/salad course and entrees. We were told the kitchen was backed up. this is apparently the norm. For appetizers, the French onion soup was a gold star dish. My friend had the goat cheese salad which she said was also very good. The Chicken Cordon Bleu was good, and a hard-to-find dish in NYC. While eating our entrees, the server never checked on how things were or if we needed anything. Once finished, we sat there for a long time waiting for our plates to be cleared, and finally had to "announce" that we were done and request our dessert (as we had ordered the prix fixe menu). For dessert we ordered the Dame Blanche and Profiteroles. I would recommend neither. The ice cream (in both) was poor quality, crystallized and not creamy. A real shame. In all, the meal too 2.5 hours due to the slow service. The soup remains fantastic. I'm downgrading my review to recommend this spot only for soup and salad and not a full, hours-long meal. For that, it's 5 stars, for a full meal a middling 3.
