Cuisine: 7 Service: 6 Decor: 8 Value: 8 Overall: 7 After all these years, Carmine's is still one of the best place to eat for a large group of out-of-towners in the heart of Time Square imho. Does it have the best red sauce Italian food in NYC? No. Does it still have the best prices for giant platters? Maybe. Is it still a beautiful rustic looking restaurant that gives your guests the best Godfather vibes? Yes! Remember! Come with a group is my best advice. For me, the Fried Calamari is a must order at this place, though you need at least six eaters to finish the whole thing. Chicken Parm is very solid too. Way too much pasta, but I did enjoy the Penne alla Vodka. Everything else was alright, just not sure they are great deals anymore, especially the Baled Clams. I don't come here often and that's for good reason. However, give the restaurant its due respect for the purpose it serves - a decently priced meal for a large group in the middle of Time Square possibly rushing to catch a Broadway show. In that regards, this old school joint really fills the role.

Dining at Carmine's is one of those classic New York experiences that really lives up to the hype. The place has a lively, old-school atmosphere that immediately makes you feel like you're part of something special. It's energetic, a little loud in the best way, and full of that unmistakable big-city charm. The portions are famously huge and meant for sharing, which makes the whole meal feel more like an event than just dinner. Everything I tried tasted comforting and full of flavor, the kind of hearty Italian food that feels both indulgent and satisfying. It's the perfect spot to go with family or a group of friends so you can try a variety of dishes and enjoy the experience together. Service was fast and organized even though the restaurant was packed, which says a lot about how well they handle the constant crowds. It can feel a bit hectic at times, but that's honestly part of what makes it memorable. If you're looking for a legendary New York restaurant that delivers generous portions, classic flavors, and a fun atmosphere, this is definitely a place worth visiting.

We had an event in carmines at a private room with 200+ people. Which I was so shocked because I had no idea that Carmines would be able to accommodate. Definitely a great spot for anyone planning a huge party, will keep this place in mind for my baby's parties. The food was served all family style, we got a plate for our section of the table about 6 people. Which I think it was not enough food. Every plate was cleared so fast. We got salad, eggplant parm (which was delicious!), pasta alla vodka and a chicken with spinach dish. Overall solid space for a large party, food was ok as well. They even have their own Carmines wine.

First night in NYC with the fam and Carmine's was a great choice for all ages. I loved the family style sharing. We had the calamari which might have been the best calamari I've had. The Bolognese was loaded with flavor. We also tried a white sauce which was creamy and rich. To top off the night, we ordered the titanic for our birthday girl we were celebrating. The wait staff came out with this insane vessel of ice cream and sweet treats, while singing happy birthday!

This classic Italian restaurant in the heart of Time Square still has its touch. Full house even it is already around 10 o'clock at night. I feel like we all came from a Broadway show . Sweet, accommodating and home cooked meal dining is their specialty. As expected, we got it all here tonight. We knew from the start that serving size is gigantic but cant help but to order two platter of favorites for tonight. I enjoyed the garlic and oil pasta tremendously. How it was cooked in its simplicity makes it more perfect. Tastes so good. The stuffed mushroom is full of surprises. My peach and cream beverage balance it all. It was a pleasurable evening with the crowd around us.

Carmines was a place I visited as a tourist when I was a teen, a place I visited as a college student living in the city, and now two decades later, a place I still visit with my kids when we are in town. Although located in a very touristy area, we have always enjoy the vibe, staff and food at Carmines. It's a place where you go for decent Italian, and super large portions! The calamari and Ragu on our recent visit was great and the Sangria was a thumbs up too.

What a place to be after a show - we sat at the bar and had the best time ever. Saw many groups waiting for a table the whole time we were there, and I wouldn't say that is worth it, but if you can get a reservation or a spot at the bar, this place is great. Amazing cocktails and hugeeeee portions. The chicken parm was everything you want in a chicken parm and the espresso martini was divine. If I'm in Times Square I'll be thinking about this place

Prices are higher than ever. Portions are smaller. Quality is mediocre. Service is horrible. Kid staff constantly on cell phones. Disappointing decline.

We were visiting NY and heard Carmine's is a must try so we did. We booked a reservation but was sat down 30mins AFTER the reservation, the food was 2/10, bland and average. We did find the server a bit rude too.

about 45 minutes during Christmas week around 10 PM with no reservation, which honestly impressed me given how busy it was. The staff was friendly, attentive, and kept things moving smoothly. Most of the food was flavorful and well portioned. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the chicken marsala, but everything else we tried was delicious. The atmosphere was lively and perfect for a late dinner in the city. Would definitely return and recommend, especially if you're looking for a solid spot in Times Square with great service and a fun vibe.

Located off W 44th street in time square where there are plenty of foot traffic and plenty of activities and stores nearby. The place had a very vintage atmosphere with all the black and white pictures hanged up all over the restaurant. Our waiter Chen was very helpful by giving us a handful of suggestions based on what our preferences are. He also informed us that the whole restaurant is family style so everything should be shared. Caesar Salad($32.95)- I would say this is one of the best Caesar salads I ever had, everything from the richness of the dressing to the cheesy croutons were very good. The slight anchovy taste was also a nice surprise. Chicken Saltimbocca($38.95)- I would have preferred the chicken thighs over chicken breast since it was dry. The sauce was a little bitter and the spinach added a little earthiness to the dish. Shrimp Parmigiana($45.95)- Nicely breaded jumbo shrimp that was served over a light marinara sauce and covered with a layer of mozzarella cheese. Little Frankie Blue Eyes($8.00)- Very tasty non alcoholic drink with blueberry, pineapple, ginger beer and soda that was not overly sweet. I would suggest trying this place as a group because family style is a lot of food and this way you can try a variety of dishes. Would definitely recommend the Caesar Salad and Shrimp Parmigiana as they were both delicious Visited November 2025 Food- 8/10 Cleanliness- 9/10 Staff- 10/10

I've loved coming to Carmine's for years now. Expect a loud, big dining room atmosphere; like you're at grandmas for the holidays. Food is always good and servers are great too! I recommend making a reservation, specially during the evenings and weekends

What is the approximate cost for a group of 6 for dinner?

Are there bathrooms on first floor? I know there's bathrooms on 2nd level but I cannot walk up stairs at the moment

Yes they have bathrooms on the first floor

    Is parking available?

Street parking is a nightmare but there is a parking garage directly across the street I think it cost us around $45 for 4 hours

Is there any gluten free options?

Yes they have a whole gluten free menu. It is excellent!

    Is there a kid's menu?

Not sure but this is a family style resto. So portions are huge and to be shared with people on the table. For example the antipasto was for at least 6 people for one order. I don’t think it was meant for one person

    Are jeans acceptable?

    Yes. This is casual.

Are there any vegan options here?

Yes there are. The menu is online.

Does Carmines in Time Square area have a private room to accommodate a business dinner meeting of 8?

When I went there with a group we were taken to the top floor. It is not a private room, but they definitely can handle a group of 8 or more.

Ok if our group of 4 in regular tourist attire?

    Yes, not a problem

Can you dine at the bar?

You can order take out. You can also make reservations to dine-in.

    No dance

What Should I Wear When Coming?

Nope, besides, Credit Company wont hold you responsible for fraudulent charges. Eat away!

Particularly the penne funghi is to die for. Tried the linguine vongole clam pasta for the first time and was pretty good as well! Just wish there was more sauce and the clams were the tiniest size I've seen which was disappointing and to make matters worse, a good 1/3 of them were empty. Besides that, the meal was delightful and still great value as it was delicious with huge portions! Love! However, service at this particular branch is nowhere near as good as other branches. I understand it's busy and it's always incredibly crowded with people and cramped seating and loud music/voices but this was like no other. When I arrived party of 2, they had nearly 5 tables empty and yet we couldn't sit at any of them because the had to wait for reservations to see if they arrived and we had to wait 15 min but they said they'd let us know. We were forced to sit at the bar which the giant metal can of alcohol bottles took up 1/2 my seating/dining area and no one bothered to move it or ask if that was okay because obviously it wasn't but the didn't care. We waited awhile for the food to come and during that time we asked if there really wasn't any table availability since tables clearly open and the denied again even though reservations never came. Literally 3 tables remains consistently empty throughout our entire dining experience confined to the cramped bar area. They even closed the door, separating the outdoor diners which was weird and it became insufferably hot inside, even on a cold windy day. Bathroom situation here is also terrible as it is downstairs with steep narrow stairs and me and other customers almost bumped into each other and staff carrying multitude of food dishes and dirty dishes up and down the stairs. Never have I ever had such an undelightful experience going to bathroom at a restaurant. Additionally, sink water pressure either had no water coming out or a giant spray of water making it impossible to wash hands without getting a whole shower. This location really needs work. Only reason why I'm not giving it five stars is because I love Fumo as a whole. Just skip this location.

Being Italian American, I'm hypercritical of spots like these - but nevertheless the positive reviews were overwhelming so I wanted to check it out for myself. One of my friends and I were looking to catch up, so I booked a table and off we went. While it can be tricky to get a reservation during prime dinner time, it's relatively easy to get a lunch reservation - or an early/late dinner. I managed to get a reservation for dinner at 9:15pm which was the earliest I could find. The restaurant is pretty unassuming on the outside - it looks like a converted brownstone and once inside we were greeted by a large space with a sceney vibe. The space is split between two levels with a large bar up front and a semi-open kitchen in the back. The decor was modern - with lots of greys and neutral tones which was a little unexpected. The main star of the menu is pasta, but they also have a few non-pasta mains as well as some crudo selections, apps, and sides. We decided to get a few apps, two pastas, and one side. To start, we went with the octopus, roasted mushrooms, burrata crostone, and focaccia. These were all really good, but my favorite was the mushrooms. I'm usually not a fan of mushrooms but these were prepared with red pepper and fried egg and were delicious; it cut through the earthiness and changed the texture to something I really enjoyed. The focaccia was also a standout - it's house made and was paired with a peppery oil that complemented the bread well. For mains we split two pastas - the caccio e pepe and the rigatoni. Both of these were very good, though I felt the rigatoni was the stronger dish. It was prepared with sausage ragu, soppressata, broccoli rabe pesto, and pecorino. The flavors worked really well together and the pasta was cooked al dente. The caccio e pepe was perfectly fine, I just feel it's been overplayed and didn't feel there was anything that stood out amongst the others I've tried. We also got a broccoli rabe as a side which was great. We couldn't leave without dessert and decided to get their olive oil cake and quattro formaggio cheesecake. The restaurant is known for the former - it was perfectly fine but I've had olive oil cakes elsewhere of the same or better quality. The cheesecake was the stronger dessert IMO - the combination of cheeses gave it an interesting, almost savory flavor. The brûlée top and mascerated strawberries were great texture and flavor complements. Service was great - the place was packed but service was consistently on point and everyone was friendly. Overall, I had a good experience at L'Artusi. While everything was very good, I'm struggling to find the exact reason why this place became such a hot spot compared to other Italian spots in the city. Nevertheless, you'll have a good meal here and I would definitely return if given the opportunity.
