I ate here for my birthday. This restaurant is beautiful! I brought my family here and we all loved it. We are in the dining room. The service was top notch. The food was delicious. I'll be running back!

We went here for our anniversary and it was absolutely amazing! Loved the ambiance! We started with martinis at the bar with Alberto and they were ice cold and perfect! Our gorgeous girl sat us at the best table overlooking the rest of the restaurant and our waiter Patrick was a pro with all the right suggestions. Food was off the chart and Liam made it perfect with three incredible desserts! I recommend this place to anyone that loves class!

Service: 2 / Vibe: 4 / Food: 3 The inside is beautiful and the dim lighting definitely gives it a cool vibe. I had the rotisserie chicken which was good but I wouldn't say it was anything to rave about or order again. The service was truly that of a glacier pace. We went for a 6pm reservation and didn't get out until 9:30 [on a Monday] where we nearly had to beg for the check. Truly when the waiter dropped the check he tried to walk away and I had to say "here's the card" because I couldn't risk him walking away and waiting another 30 minutes for his return. I'd consider going back for the interior decor but otherwise, definitely a pass.

Came here for Galentines Day with my friend and we had a great time! Our server was so patient with us even though we took so much time getting pictures, and chatting. We were probably at the table for three hours but they didn't rush us out at all. The halibut was excellent, the burrata with the charred veggies were so fragrant. The soufflé was also quite light and delicious. Very romantic place, perfect for Valentines Day!

Had dinner here while visiting NYC last week. Club-like atmosphere which I wouldn't think is everyone's cup of tea. Very loud and busy. We had reservations at 7:15pm and were running late because of our uber and traffic but that didn't seem to matter as we still had to wait about 20 minutes for our table. We ordered the Potato Chip Omelette, Black Truffle Fettuccine, and Lamb Chops. All tasted great! Service was wonderful!

Overhyped and average factory restaurant. Had a meh Thanksgiving dinner here and the staff could give no f#*ks. Seated 40 minutes after our reservation. Stood by a sad lettuce buffet. Ordered ribeye... it's 86'd... now it's not... ok, you get ribeye. Food runners didn't know who ordered what, so it's like Denny's "who got the pasta?" And everything officious and slow. Asked for water like 8 times. Had dessert which was nice. Mostly they were pretty but chocolate mousse looked like poo. TLDR: $600+ for 4 people with no alcohol was waaaay more than this lame place was worth. Avoid.

Came to celebrate a birthday and it happened to be restaurant week menu. Two of us wanted it and two of us didn't. Unfortunately every member of the party has to participate so we went with it. $60 menu. Since we were in 4 we tried almost everything. There were 4 appetizers so we tried them all, and 4 desserts so we also tried all of those. I'll mention entrees after. First the appetizers. Absolutely... pathetic. One of them came a tier of salami, carrot slaw, and radishes with a curl of butter on top. So strange. The second was an artichoke salad that I didn't care for and be careful eating it because I cut my mouth from an outer piece being in it. The third was like a puff pastry with cheese inside that was eh and the last was a spinach with egg whites, egg yolks and beets all separate in the plate. personally, I didn't care for any of them. Entrees: I got basically a fancy fish and chips. The fish was sole and rhetorical fries were good. The beef bourguignon was good and the duck was good as well. Dessert: the pear one was good, I didn't love chocolate and cherry one but that's personal preference, the rice pudding was ok, and the Mille-feuille I didn't like. The service was fine and the place inside is pretty. I think the appetizers just kind of shocked me. I won't be back but worth a try from the regular menu I think

Balconette and April in Paris

Went to Cathedrale on a Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised! I'd heard mixed things, but my experience was great. Started with drinks and some the bread service was incredible, the French butter was divine (wish they gave more bread) Tried the yellowfin tuna cru, octopus, and the omelette with caviar and chips, all were great! The squid ink rigatoni with lobster was my favorite , so rich and delicious. The truffle pasta was a little bland, but dessert made up for it , the crème brûlée was perfect. Service was quick and efficient thanks to our server Alexandra , and everything came out smoothly. Overall, a lovely dinner.

Hands down the best happy hour in NYC ! The $ 5 bar bites were exceptional. The didn't compromise on the quality of ingredients or taste or presentation just because it was $5. Our bar tender was a joy to talk to.The happy hour can be availed only at the bar. There are 3 areas to the restaurant. The gadern area ,the bar & formal dining room . All areas are visually stunning .

I had Cathédrale on my list for years, and I had been in the vicinity several times in that time span, but I never made a point to stop in. While looking through my list for a spot on short notice, the name popped up and I made a reservation on one of my nights off. I figured the restaurant's longevity was a good indicator that it still merited a visit. When I arrived the place was pretty busy. As a result, my table wasn't quite ready. So I grabbed a drink at the bar, the "Saint-Tropez" (Hennessey VS, Lime, Melon, Mint, Ginger Beer). Normally I'm not a "Hennessey-Type-Guy" but I was feeling vacation vibes, so I rolled with it and it tasted great. I was solo dining and there was plenty of bar seating, but I elected to take a small table to myself. The two-person tables are a little close to each other (close enough to hear full conversations), but I was surrounded by pleasant NYers and travelers/tourists. I went in dressed up for the experience, and the staff looked sharp too, but don't be surprised to see touristy looking guests in casual attire on your visit. Anyways, once I got to the table and had a moment to take a good look around, I felt that the expansiveness you feel in the pictures didn't exactly translate to the in-person feel. Though it didn't feel cavernous, the decor and atmosphere were still pleasant. If you're seated at the tables near the entry point to the dining room, you will have the bar/vestibule area to your back, without a full barrier. Some people might feel a little apprehensive about sitting there because of it. So keep that in mind if you're security conscious. Regarding the food, I started with the potato chip omelette (Egg omelette, with white sturgeon caviar and chips). I was honestly hoping for some flavor, other than the ordinary, in the egg omelette, but it tasted like a regular solid omelette you make at home with a little salt. However, the chips, caviar, and crème fraîche, combined with some egg did taste good. It's a little heavy as a starter on a solo trip, but if your party is two or more, it might still make sense. That was followed up by their filet mignon with a side of sautèed spinach. This was the star of the meal! Great flavor in the crust of the meat, was well as in the sauce. I recommend it! In fact, it was ordered by patrons on either side of me as well. So there might be something to it! While I was enjoying the filet mignon, I ordered a glass of the Bordeaux Blend on the menu. Unfortunately, they were out. That Cabernet blend was a solid substitute though, and the sommelier came to me directly to discuss the substitution options (which was greatly appreciated). For dessert I can't remember the exact name of the dish, but it was essentially cake with strawberries on the side. I know that sounds simple, but it was very good and coincidentally, a great choice for me because I love strawberries among other things. I paired dessert with one last drink, the "Sgroppino," which, as promised, was prepared table-side. The guests at my neighboring tables and I were captivated by the show. The gentleman preparing the drink was actually Greek and we had a nice side convo about the origin of my name, a foundation for a good memory of the restaurant. The drink itself, made with Sorento lemon sorbet, Absolut Elyx vodka and Blanc De Blancs, was cool and refreshing, perfect for summer! I strongly recommend that as well. All in all, it was a solid dining experience. There weren't any grave or egregious errors and therefore nothing that would make me detract a star from my review. I think the place is worth the trip and currently they have a three-course, Pris-Fixe, menu deal for $60.oo. If you use the Tao Group app, you can potentially score another 25% off of your bill as well. So there are PLENTY of reasons to make a stop in. Special shout out to my dining team, which included Nicola, Natalie, Faith and Constantine. They were kind and warm throughout the dinner service. Hopefully, you get a chance to dine with them as well!

Cathédrale was just okay for me. The main dining room is undeniably beautiful, but if you're seated in one of the adjacent rooms, the vibe shifts quickly to something closer to a cafeteria than a luxe dining experience. The staff was genuinely kind and attentive, which I appreciated, but the food didn't quite live up to the hype. The onion soup was fine, nothing memorable. The stone crab claws, however, felt like a total rip-off--borderline embarrassing given the price. On the brighter side, the steak was very good, and the bread and butter were absolutely delicious. Overall, not a bad experience, but not one that makes me eager to rush back.

Went to cathedrale for a girls night and it was a blast! Highly recommend making a reservation as soon as possible, the table Reservations run out fast and we sat at the bar. The service was still 10/10. They offer complimentary breadsticks, however, I'm allergic to sesame so the server was kind enough to offer me warm bread. The drinks were strong and flavorful. I got the truffle fettuccine which was a really rich dish and the only that could be added to it would be protein. My friend said the salmon fell a little flat taste but was still overall good.

We made this reservation about a week prior, noting it was for my birthday dinner for 3 at 8:15pm. When you arrive, especially on a weekend evening, expect loud music and lively conversations. The bar area is next to the host stand, with the beautiful garden seating nearby. Past the large, gorgeous bar is the dining area with incredible ceiling decor and a gorgeous chandelier. We arrived at 8:10ish and the hostess asked us to wait at the bar and order drinks until my father arrived. When he did, they let us know there would be a bit of a delay, so we enjoyed a cocktail at the bar. My partner had a glass of red wine, which was tasty, and I had a Bombay martini with blue cheese stuffed olives. It was fantastic, however, it was a little annoying you have to close out there. We ended up waiting over 45 minutes for our table to be ready. At one point, a hostess brought us all glasses of complimentary champagne to apologize for the wait, which was nice, but I did feel didn't fully make up for how long we had to wait to be seated, especially because this made me extremely late to an event I was attending afterwards. We ordered a fantastic bottle of red wine, and my partner also had the Barcelonette cocktail, which was so refreshing. Once seated, our waiter was fantastic. We ordered the grilled octopus as an appetizer, which was incredible and so flavorful, but we were disappointed there weren't many pieces in this dish. The veal porterhouse was delicious with tableside au jus service. The meat was tender and perfectly cooked. The truffle flavor was wonderful as well. We also had a side of sautéed spinach, which was nice. For dessert, I enjoyed a glass of dessert wine and they brought out a cute little ice cream birthday cake. I'd like to give this restaurant another chance, perhaps with a happy hour reservation right when it begins, but I am disappointed in the meal beginning on the wrong note with how late we were seated.

Ask the Community - Cathédrale Restaurant

Is this place kid friendly?

Hello, with the atmosphere I would not recommend kids for this place

Can I bring my own cake if I have a birthday?

I think it's best to call the restaurant. Most case they May charge you a cutting cake fee.

Could it be parked on the street?

There is street parking.. just have to be sure to read the parking signs. It's a pretty busy area so depending on the time of day the parking can be quite challenging.

Is your patio dining (not curbside or sidewalk) a true open-air outdoor dining set-up for a colder season (like now)? And do you have heaters in the patio?

Is brunch Good for toddler?

I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for a toddler, because it's more of a fine dining establishment. However, when celebrating a birthday, I'm sure bringing the toddler along would be just fine.

Tao Downtown, Lavo or Cathedrale?

Tao downtown

Are kids allowed?

Yes, I don't see kids being a problem here.

What's the dress code?

Smart casual.

Is dress code mandatory?

It's not mandatory, it's optional

Is the restaurant loud (ie: are they playing loud music)?

A little too loud for us but just didn't like the music choices

The food itself was bad -- like really bad. From start to finish everything missed the mark: The hummus was bland and tasted like someone forgot the spices. The doma (dolmas) were disappointing and didn't have the rich flavor they should. Even the baklava, which should be a sweet highlight, was dry, lackluster, and honestly not enjoyable. The Turkish coffee was so bitter it was almost undrinkable -- if you like bitter coffee, maybe it's your thing, but it wasn't what I expected. They market themselves as Turkish and Middle Eastern cuisine, but what I ate didn't come close to what I'd consider good food in that category. My stomach was still growling afterward -- and not in a "I want more" way, but in a "why did I eat this?" way. The staff and service were fine and the atmosphere is pretty, but at the end of the day it's just not worth it when the food itself is so underwhelming. I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for authentic or tasty Turkish/Middle Eastern food.

There were 7 of us The seating was cozy but not cramped. We started with 7 family style small dishes: Hummus with Falafel Pops (chickpea purée, tahini, falafel, olive oil), Spring Burrata (roasted cherry tomatoes, toast, basil oil), Hamachi Crudo (passionfruit vinaigrette, citrus zest, cucumber, mint, sesame tuile), Scallops (carrot puree, serrano pepper, brown butter sauce), Tenderloin Skewer (zaatar chimichurri, fresh herb salad), and Shiitake Stuffed Grape Leaves (tomato coulis, yogurt foam, herbs). Everything was delicious. The hummus was well seasoned the falafel had a nice crunch. It went well with the warm puffy gyro bread that came to the table. The burrata was wasm and creamy. I love the vinaigrette on the fish. I ended up eating most of it. The scallops were the sweetest, most tender ones I have ever had. The tenderloin skewers were tender and well seasoned. I liked the grape leaves but the rice consistency was very soft almost mushy and you can barely tell there were mushrooms. There was barely any mushrooms flavor. Next we all chose an entree. I got the duck breast, my husband and daughter each had the beef tenderloin. The duck breast was smaller than i expected. The skin was nicely seared and very crispy but boy did it give my jaw a workout. It was done medium rare. It was juicy but tough. The small beef tenderloin was tender and smoky. The waiter poured the sauce over the tenderloin for added flavor. Finally dessert was a fruit plate with ice cream and pudding. The fruit was fresh and the flavors of the ice cream and pudding unique. It was a nice end to a good brunch. The price was a little expensive at $85 a person.

The chicken Adana sandwich was also quite nice. The chicken was fresh and well seasoned in a good portion with some lettuce, onions, tomatoes as well. The bread was great. It's served with two wonderful, flavorful sauces: hot sauce and yogurt sauce (I much prefer the latter). Portion is incredible for the price. Then, I was initially interested in trying the fig pudding for dessert but they were out of it, so I went with the rice pudding. Again, a huge portion that is well worth the price.
