This is an update to my previous review when I dined at Parkway Grill on 8/30/18 and in response to Mike's response from UNIFIED VALET PARKING INC. Yes, I did finally get my key to my car back AFTER 5 DAYS and my staff contacting the valet staff repeatedly. Overall, I was grateful to finally get my key back (saved over $500 to get a replacement) but this was a very poor experience overall. This is for the restaurant owners of Parkway Grill. Since I have heard NOTHING from you (either phone call or response to Yelp) it is very clear that you feel this was NOT YOUR PROBLEM. You chose to have a contract with this valet company and I was a customer at your restaurant. Some concern would have been nice but was severely lacking. I really wanted to love you, Parkway. But I have to be honest- I just don't. My mom came into town and asked that I pick a nice restaurant for a belated birthday celebration. I did my research and was sold on Parkway's farm to table feel and highly reviewed salmon dish. We had: Bread basket Pear Gorgonzola flatbread Crab cakes Salmon Brocollini Potatoes Short rib And a complimentary tres leches cupcake The food and service were good, but certainly didn't wow us. The salmon was the most underwhelming- slightly overdone, and no seasoning. At $42 a la carte, I was really hoping for something deliciously seasoned and perfectly cooked. In all fairness, the building is beautiful. 3/4 of us are pescatarians and each ordered the salmon and were disappointed. My husband had the short ribs and loved it. So perhaps their specialty is meat, and could stand to improve on their seafood choices? They did give us a birthday card and complimentary dessert, which was a very sweet touch. read more

My boyfriend surprised me for an early Valentine's Day dinner here tonight. I felt like we were the only young couple in the restaurant. when I looked around, everyone was above 50 years of age. It was lovely to see different age groups still celebrate Valentine's Day =) The ambiance was really nice. Dim lights and has wooden ceiling. When we got seated, it took awhile for a waiter to come to us. However he was really nice and attentive, so I didn't mind it. we started off with a glass of Macallan.. My boyfriend is a Scotch guy so Macallan was a must. Then we started to order: Appetizers: half dozen of their daily special oysters- today was the Naked Cowgirl from Washington. Omg it was sooo good! Each oysters was fresh, sweet and tasty. Great way to start our night ;) Entrees: I ordered the grilled filet mignon with mushroom sautéd, asparagus and potato. Tasted amaaaazing!! I ordered medium rare- it was cooked to perfection. Every bite was super tender and juicy. My boyfriend ordered the braised short rib with potato and carrots. The short rib was a bit dry but it was still delicious! The sauces for both dishes was so good. I was pretty impressed by it. Desserts: can't miss desserts! We ordered a chocolate bread pudding with pistachio ice cream to share. Great choice. So glad we shared because we both were stuffed after that dessert. We've been to many steakhouses in Pasadena and LA. Parkway grill is a pretty good choice. This is our first time coming here and I'm very satisfied with the food. Our waiter was attentive and great, asked us how was the food every 10 minutes. (He asked about 10+ times throughout the dinner). I usually would get annoyed if they asked so many times, but not this time. He was very nice and sincere. We had a great experience here and we definitely are coming back. This is a wonderful, upscale restaurant! My friends and I (8 of us) came here on Saturday night, with a reservation at 5.30PM (we couldn't get the 'prime time' slot and didn't want to wait till 9PM). We were seated right the way because the restaurant just open for business. The bread-set was good, we had to ask for second round. And the fresh squeezed lemonade was very refreshing. We ordered 2 salads to share - one with the asian pears and blue cheese, and one with red beets and goat cheese. 4 of my friends are vegetarians, there aren't too many choices for them. They had the black bean soup, angel hair pasta, and vine-ripened tomato pizza, which they gave a thumb ups. As for the non-vegetarian, we had 2 appetizers - the highly recommended tiger shrimp corndogs and bacon wrapped dates. Both are delicious!! While the 3-bacon wrapped dates are really small portion (maybe they were not created to share?) the sprouts, pink lady apple, pistachios and creme friache on the side are really tasty!! We also ordered the seared scallops and whole ginger fried catfish. This was the first time I saw a whole fish in a western restaurant (which is pretty common in Chinese restaurants). The 2 appetizers + 2 main courses were perfect portion for the 4 of us, and we want to save some room for desserts. For desserts, we shared the old fashioned bananas foster, chocolate lava cake, and creme brulee napoleon. OMG, all of them were SO GOOD! Parkway has been here for so many years probably before I was born. Crowd is on the older side & so are the prices on the higher. But the food is simply amazing. I can't not go here & love being one of their regulars. Service is questionable depending on who you receive but I will give them 5 stars for the free valet & AMAZING food they have. As an appetizer you must not pass up on their lobster crêpe. I hate crêpes normally, but after trying this unique flavorful one changed my mind towards theirs & only theirs. As main entree's do try their 1/2 roasted Shelton farms chicken, or Roasted 1/2 Mary's chicken-goat cheese mashed potatoes, roasted garlic cloves, lemon butter sauce, & figs. Fantastic for any chicken lover soo moist & juicy & bursting with flavor. My next ultimate favorite for steak lovers is their Tender filet mignon with mushroom wine sauce & mashed potatoes. Ultimately tender. Beyond compare I am a true born Ribeye lover but only here will I ever order a filet it's that good. For dessert their staple Crème Brûlée Napoleon-Crisp Phyllo squares layered with vanilla bean custard and caramel sauce is orgasmically good. I tried Scallop last time. It was good but a small portion. Sea bass was amazing. Probably one of the best I've tried. Then last night I tried dry aged NY steak for $60 and it was not good. I meant it didn't taste like dry aged and also smelled little bit. It was also little dry. So I can say definitely not as good as Flemings or Ruth chris and I should mentioned that here for steak lovers. Lobster risotto, corn dog shrimp and crab cakes were worth trying. I came with my boyfriend to try their DineLA special after hearing rave reviews from my friend. I made reservations for 7:30, but couldn't make it until 8:30. Luckily I was able to put off my reservation for one hour, which I was very grateful for. The restaurant is in a nice location, with validated parking the minute you turn in. The restaurant has very dim lighting - I guess they're trying to create a very romantic mood. I thought it was annoying because I couldn't clearly see the food or the company ... or the menu! We were seated near the back, where it was incredibly dim except for the lone lightbulbs shining down over our heads. The waiter wasn't as nice or courteous as I wanted him to be, but perhaps he was having a rough night. Ordered the lamb lollipops and the crab cake. I thought the crab cake was fairly decent, and I liked the flavoring of the salad on top of it. I didn't like the lamb lollipop too much as the goat cheese and fig relish tasted really odd with the lamb combination. We also ordered an extra angel hair appetizer, which they made sure came out before the main entree. I liked the angel hair more than the lamb lollipops, but the pasta wasn't anything special. For the entree, my boyfriend ordered the filet mignon and I ordered the black truffle infused chicken breast. Argh mistake!! I should have ordered the fish instead. The chicken and the fingerling potatoes that came with it were incredibly salty. The zucchini and carrots were ... well, they're just vegetables so nothing awesome nothing bad about that. The filet mignon was cooked well, but the mashed potatoes and the mushroom were both too too overpowering and salty that it made us both incredibly full super fast. But the best part that made everything else pale in comparison was the dessert! (The bread basket was also very good with the pretzel sticks, breadsticks, bread and crouton slices...but the dessert!) So my boyfriend ordered the crème brûlée napoleon and I ordered the dark chocolate glazed cannoli. I wanted the creme brulee more, but oh well! Both were amazing and so so beautiful. We spent so long taking pictures of the dessert that I think the waiter thought we were a bit crazy. I really like creme brulee, so of course that was my favorite dish. The phyllo squares were crispy (think chinese cakes with the layers in the middle) and so delicious paired with the vanilla bean custard and caramel syrup. There was some cool design with the custard and syrup, too. The cannolis were really really sweet that it was hard to even finish them, but ... we tried our best! I'm not a fan of dark chocolate, but paired with the butterscotch custard and vanilla whipped cream (which I thought was ice cream so I was just eating it!) ... it was over the top sensational. You have to try these two items if you're a big dessert fan. My boyfriend and I were joking that the next time, we should just come in and order dessert! Over all, a good meal. The waiter wasn't as attentive as he could have been, but he was nice and knowledgeable. And ... go to their bathrooms! Haha, the ladies room had the thickest towels I have ever seen (and I thought that the towels in the Sydney Opera House were thick!) - and I love the little chocolate candies that they have in the front. Hehe, these little things make me forget about some things I didn't like. Overall, I thought it was a good experience to eat at Parkway Grill! One tip is to not order the chicken breast or the filet mignon, but order the fish instead! And a MUST - you must get dessert! read more

Okay Parkway Grill. I saved a special occasion for you and practically had my 5 star review written before walking in, but you just did not live up to the hype. I wanted to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday with some good meat, thus Parkway Grill. It wasn't even a hard decision for me because I have tons of friends that love this place, and now I have to rethink my relationships with them. Just kidding, but I do take food seriously. To start off, parking was easy, restaurant looked amazing, and service was really good. Tried the lobster crepe, which the server mentioned is their most raved about appetizer. I know it says crepe, but it came looking like a soft shelled taco with the most amazing filling ever: creamy white sauce with leeks and large chunks of fresh lobster. The plate also had a generous portion of a lobster broth reduction that was so delicious. It was bright orange but tasted so fresh. The complimentary bread also pairs perfectly with the orange sauce. For entrees, my boyfriend ordered the lamb chops with a Cabernet blueberry reduction, and I ordered the fresh tagliatelle with seared scallops in a creamy pea sauce. The tagliatelle was thinner than most I've had and perfectly al dente. The scallops were very fresh and tender, but so salty. The pasta came with three large scallops and after eating one, I was downing water like no other. I didn't even want to eat another scallop even though they were so tender and juicy. The pea sauce was delicious but could not make this an amazing dish. We ordered the lamb chops medium rare, and they were definitely very tender and juicy. The inside was pretty pink, and we had to use quite a bit of force to cut the center pieces. Some reviewers got three chops, and we only got two, but I suppose ours were just bigger. It makes no difference to me, but eating it I realized with bigger chops come larger chunks of fat. However, I can't deny the amazing flavor. No gamey taste at all, and some bites were just absolutely delicious. I just can't say that about the whole dish. The veggies were cooked to perfection from the mashed potatoes to the tomato au gratin. Thinking about dessert got me drooling again, and I decided on the bread pudding because, well, it's bread pudding. Even though it's chocolate (not my favorite), I needed something to make me love this place, and if anything was going to do it, it was going to be bread pudding. Unfortunately, the bread pudding was just alright, and I'm now confused about this place. I really wanted to love it, but I just can't. At least not until I've tried their steak. Overall, I don't like recommending something I haven't tried yet, but I'd say if you're already at the restaurant, go for the steak. That's what I'm getting next round. read more

Came in for dinner the other day to celebrate my uncle's birthday. They have a huge table in the center of the restaurant that is great for large groups but then they have a decorative table right behind the chairs which makes it almost impossible for people to be seated comfortably. We started with some Oysters which were good (there was one that had a baby clam stuck on it which was a little odd). We also tried the Crab Cakes which were good but had a bit too much sauce/mayonnaise on it. The waiter had raved about the Black Bean Soup, which none of us enjoyed, but attempted to finish out of obligation. It works better as a dip, so we all ended up dipping our bread in it instead. The bread on the other hand was excellent. I loved the variety and each one was delicious. I had ordered the Filet Mignon medium rare, but it was presented to me rare (I guess it is better to have it under done than over done). My husband and cousin were happy to take that off my hands but concurred that there was a serious lack of seasoning. My husband ordered the Duck, medium rare. It came out medium rare, which was nice, but the lack of seasoning was disappointing. Luckily the bread was served with kosher salt on the side, so we just seasoned our dishes on our own. For dessert we tried the Creme Brulee Napoleon, this was wonderful. I really enjoyed the fact that the creme brulee was not overly sweet and the puff pastry was a nice change. Overall, the service was good, and the food was alright, the highlights were definitely the bread and the dessert. Valet parking is complimentary! read more

This is a great place for a special occassion or a nice date night. This place was great. We arrived, and the place was beatuifuly decorated for xmas. We sat at the bar waitiing for our reservation. The drinks at the bar were great and the service was excellent. For dinner, as an appetizer we had lamb lollipops which were amazing. The lamb paired with a nice cabernet were absolutely delicious and tender. The main course consisted of the house special - filet with fried lobster. Both were done impeccably. The fried lobster was tender and didn't require butter. The filet was done to perfection and according to my wife was "better than mastro's." I had salmon over mushrooms, with a wine reduction sauce. The salmon -- although farmed raised -- was perfectly tender, moist and flavorful. One downside, although the staff were very helpful, the waitress was not as attentive as I would expect. Normally, for a dinner that was $200 without wine a waiter should make sure that your wine glass never goes empty, and the customer should not have to pour his/her own wine. read more

Service and interior are divine. Come at 7:45ish on a Friday: it's filled to the brim and complete with a personable jazz band straight out of a Woody Allen movie. Lobster crepe was as good and unique as it's rumored, but the Rosemary roasted chicken was such an amazing surprise. It's enough food on one plate to feed a whole family, but it's so tender and NOT overcooked that you're tempted to consume the whole thing. The rare steak with the scalloped potatoes was also perfection and a definite go-to if you're a fan of red meat. My wife and I came here for an anniversary dinner last night. This was our first real meal out since the start of the pandemic and first time to this resturaunt and it did not dissappoint. Oysters were some of the freshest I've ever had, the shrimp corn dogs were excellent, filet mignon was out of control.... absolutely outstanding. Whoever owns this joint ought to be thankful they've got somebody like that taking care of their people. Drinks are amazing. Highly recommend their old fashioned - whatever it is they do with barrel aging and yadda yadda works very, very well. We went here with friends the other night and were blown away. Our first time here and we have added it to our destination restaurants when we have future guests. The ambience is beautiful. You get the sense of old Pasadena money all around you. Old guys in their sixties sitting at the bar with very attractive 40 year old lassies. I'm sure there were some wallet farmers amongst both sexes but nobody looked like a fool so the game was fair. Cocktails while awaiting our reserved table are not cheap. But worth the price. I can't recall all the food we had, but no one was disappointed. I know we had lamb and Cesar and endive salad to start all of which were delicious. The mains which I can't recall just now were delicious also. As was the chocolate desert we shared. Parking is Valet and I'd recommend a nav system to get here. Dress is definitely business casual or better. This is a classic old American beauty which we will happily return to. read more

3.5 stars The Parkway Grill has been there for 30 years and it is on the short list of the finest restaurants in Pasadena. There is "free" (meaning you tip them whatever you want) valet parking, the restaurant is quietly sophisticated and "clubby" without being "snobbish", and the service is alert, friendly, and professional. I used to think the food tended towards the "fussy", ie, of the "let's see how many trendy ingredients we can squeeze into every dish" variety, but they've really tightened up their act and now the menu is focused and very nice. They still bring out that amazing bread basket, along with butter with Himalayan pink salt & regular Kosher salt. The appetizers are excellent, especially the tuna/avocado tower; the dressing is just right. The tossed salads are fresh and generous and just fine, too. The entrees are also just fine: the lamb chops with the Cabernet/berry reduction were cooked on point as was the Chilean sea bass, excellent. That said, the accompaniments were just OK; in the case of the chops, the Peruvian (purple) mashed potatoes were lukewarm, and the "bleu cheese tomato gratin" was a couple of frankly, pretty crummy tomato slices with some onions & toasted bread crumbs; if there was any bleu cheese I sure didn't see or taste it, pretty disappointing. Same thing with the accompaniments to the sea bass, kind of an afterthought without much effort. The plates aren't hot, either, a major omission in a restaurant of this caliber. There's an interesting wine list with some nice bottles and good wines are available by the glass as well. The only dessert we tried, a "crème brulee Napoleon" was frankly not "brulee-ish", and kind of hard to eat; tasted OK. Sometimes it's good to leave well enough alone... The Parkway Grill is definitely a good restaurant, but stops just shy of being a "great" one, and at their prices that's a fault that could and should be addressed. I've never been "disappointed" per se, but not "wowed", either. Good place to come for that special occasion, and with a few tweaks it could really be something, but I'm guessing they don't feel the need to "stretch" and I get it. read more

I chose this place for a family dinner and I loved it. The food was absolutely incredible. I could not get enough of the oysters. I was glad that we were given a private room being that we had children with us. It helped with comfort. The lighting was perfect as it added even more elegance to the already upscale setting. Always impeccable service, great food, great vibe, and great time no matter the location! Recently, have spent more time at Smitty's and Arroyo Chop House. But went to PG last night and what an incredible night it was. Same 5-star experience as usual. Ate in the bar area and had a wonderful time. I have been to parkway grill quite a few times over the past couple of years and I have to say they have remained consistent through and through. From the Brick oven pizzas to the shrimp scampi, the food is always on point. Pricey, maybe, but who doesn't want to pay for good food. The bill hits a little easier when you feel like you are getting your money's worth and parkway grill stays true to great quality. If you have a bad experience here just chalk it up to a bad day (we all have one once in a while) but be sure to make your back and try the food again! They won't disappoint read more

In my opinion, Parkway Grill is the sophisticated sister of Arroyo Chop House. Located in Pasadena, Parkway Grill offers a fine dining experience with no prejudice to ones clothing. And they also offer free valet parking. My husband and I went here for the Pasadena Restaurant Week and the ambiance was pretty casual (I saw some people wearing t-shirts). The prix fixe menu was $55 for dinner which is a good deal for a 3 course meal. For starter, I got the Roasted Bone Marrow (with foie gras crust, house giardiniera and sourdough toast). The combination of flavor was awesome. The bone marrow along with the foie gras just melts in your mouth. My husband on the other hand, got the Oysters on the half shell (3 pieces). It was not enough but he was able to taste the oysters' freshness. For the entree, I ordered the Grilled Filet Mignon (with rosemary fingerling potatoes, agridulce of wild mushrooms, caramelized shallots and jus) and my husband got the Braised Short Rib (with creamy polenta, green harissa and braising juices). We both liked our entrees. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection and the side of potatoes and mushroom compliments each other --tying all the flavors together. The braised short rib doesn't fall short, due to its tenderness taste and mouthwatering aroma. Last but not the least, dessert. There were only two options, so we got them both. The first was the Classic S'mores (homemade marshmallow and graham crackers with campfire chocolate, raspberry sauce, crème anglaise) and the Crème Brulee Napoleon (crisp phyllo squares layered with vanilla bean custard and caramel sauce). The S'mores was a dud. It was too sweet for our liking. The true winner was the Crème Brulee. It was the right amount of sweetness and I like how it was unconventionally made. Instead of the usual Crème brûlée in a ceramic serving dish, it was made by crisp phyllo but the taste was the same. The overall experience was great, we will definitely come back for more. read more
