It's been almost three years since I wrote a glowing review of the Parkway Grill. As we all know, a gaggle of things have transpired in the restaurant industry in the last three years, and most of it not good: Closures, abbreviated schedules, redesigns for outside seating, spikes in pricing, under staffing, and the list goes on and on. I saw none of that here at Parkway. Other than converting their parking lot into a Class A open air tent, these wonderful people stayed tried and true to their formula, and all I can say is "Bravo"! The service is still impeccable. The ambience for a "tent" was surprisingly cool. The noise level, was there was no noise level. And the food was still fantastic. Our whole fried cat fish with rice was as good or better than the originators of this dish, Contramar in Mexico City; and that's saying a mouthful (pun intended). My wedge lettuce salad was perfect, along with everything else we ordered. I'm a BIG fan of The Parkway Grill! They are a tried and true asset to SoCals restaurant landscape. read more

Parkway Grill - New American Near Me - Pasadena, California

I had Valentine's Day dinner at Parkway Grill and ordered the Surf and Turf (special, $100), filet mignon, pan seared crab cakes, and chocolate lava cake. The steak and crab cakes were great, and the chocolate lava cake was to die for. The complementary bread was also the best I've ever had-- my boyfriend and I asked for several refills throughout the night. My only gripe is that the lobster tail was a bit overcooked and rubbery, which was a bit disappointing given the price. The atmosphere is both classy and elegant yet still comfortable, and service was great. Overall had an amazing time, though I'm not sure it justifies the price tag. read more

As expected, the food was excellent and pricey ( we had salmon & short ribs). The festive holiday decor we sought was everywhere & we were grateful for that too. Alas this will probably be our last visit, as we no longer live in the area. It was lovely for old times' sake. The $7 valet parking fee leaves a lot to be desired but is a Cali tradition for folks who want to feel like one-percenters. We're not. I recommend street parking if you can find it. Save your money & generously tip your server instead. Happy holidays! read more

Awesome food! Awesome service! The ambiance was just as great too. We went on a busy Friday night and we're not disappointed.

Delicious! This review is overdue during DineLA. I tried their prix fixe menu! My goodness all the choices were delicious! My wife and I were very happy with the service and dining experience. Our waiter was awesome, service was so nice. As for the food I was happy with what I ate. I tried the tiger shrimp corndogs, they were huge and deep fried to perfection! The filet mignon was great and is always a great option. As for dessert I tried the s'mores. The s'mores were bomb! Toasted marshmallow on the top was a nice tough! Can't wait to come back to parkway grill! Thank you! read more

I came here for my 1 year anniversary with my boyfriend. We had an excellent meal complimented by incredible ambiance (I love the inside of this restaurant) and a reasonable price point. I feel like this is the classic steakhouse that still has modern delicious options with a nostalgia of old Pasadena. Would definitely return. read more

Parkway Grill - Chilean sea bass special along with a side of Scalloped Potatoes and the U.S.D.A. Prime Ribeye - New American Near Me - Pasadena, California

Dinner was excellent. Starting with the bread basket it was filled with at least 6 different varieties. Appetizers for the table included the delicious soup of the day, tuna tartare which was large enough to be. Mel and absolutely delicious and two different salads. Dinner for the table was the fish of the day, roasted duck breast, shrimp fettuccine and the table favorite the braised short ribs. The table ordered a round of desserts which everyone tried a bit of each no were so big a portion of each was sent home. Dinner was worth the $$$$ rating of the menu. If you add drinks and side dishes a dinner will run slightly over $100/person. But you will not regret choosing this restaurant. read more

*DineLA Review* Solid restaurant. Dark Setting with great ambiance, great food, and perfect for dates. Original Price on items ordered: Lobster Crepe - $18 Filet Mignon - $39 Creme Brulee - $10 DineLA Price for the above 3 items: $45 Everything was great. Probably should have went with the Hamanama Oysters ($16). Creme Brulee Napolean was beautiful but too sweet for my liking. Had a great experience dining here even though it was DineLA week and the restaurant was flooded with people taking advantage of the discounts. Everything was served in well timed intervals, and service was great. Really enjoyed my dining experience and would definitely come back again. read more

THE classic Pasadena elegant dinner location. Classic California fare, excellent service, wonderful wines, spectacular flowers. This has been the place for birthdays and anniversaries for at least a generation. Everything in the menu is wonderful, but the deep fried whole catfish with ginger and cilantro is the story. (Pro tip: you can order it de-boned and you won't have to work to get the meat off with chopsticks.) Reservations are almost always required. read more

Great food and service. They have amazing drinks as well. Great tobwait in the bat and enjoy a drink before dinner.

My wife, kids, and I came to the Parkway grill for a nice family outing. They showed us to our seat underneath a nicely decorated tent. Everything was going well until I laid my eyes on a two paged overpriced menu. For starters, we sat down and about a minute passed and the waiters were already asking us what we wanted to order. The rushing and pushing continued throughout the entire meal. The food was mediocre and not what we expected. Not to mention the appetizers were $15 a piece. The most unsettling part was the bill. We are a family of 6 and the total amount was $350. This was absolutely out of our budget and not nearly what we can afford. Overall this restaurant needs a lot of work and change put into it. Definitely not coming back. Respectfully, - Karim Ganesha read more

I've been to Parkway Grill twice now, and on each occasion my meal was spectacular. Most recently, I came with my parents and brother for an early birthday celebration. I'll review the items that I ordered. Bread basket: 5/5. Decadent. As many others have noted, the bread basket comes with an excellent selection. The butter is served warm and is a perfect compliment to the bread. Wedge salad: 4/5. The wedge salad is a good size and the bleu cheese dressing has good flavor. The bacon bits have a sweetness that does not agree with my palate, and this is why I rated 4 out of 5. Ginger fried catfish: 5/5. When I ordered this dish, the waiter told me that it was "the size of a baby shark". I didn't understand what he meant until the dish was brought to the table. The fish is served whole (head and all), and it is huge! In hindsight, this dish should be shared by 2-4 people. It is way too much food for one individual, but my GOD, it is delicious. I was skeptical about the ginger flavor being overpowering, but the fish is so perfectly spiced and there's just enough ginger to remind you that it is in the dish, but not so much that it overwhelms the palate. read more

Such a wonderful experience every single time. Jose is truly a fantastic waiter and really makes every dining experience so personal and thoughtful. This place has great service and the steak is amazing. I've been here several times and never disappointed!

Always an excellent choice for a fine dining experience. Great for celebrations of occasions.

Still amazing. One of my favorites. Everything I try at Parkway Grill is cooked beautifully and full of flavor. My favorite entree continues to be the flat iron steak with cab reduction. I hope it never leaves! read more

Always great food and service! I'm looking forward to our next meal! It's become part of our t

We LOVE Parkway Grill!!! Great food, drinks, ambiance and employees!!! I highly recommend

This restaurant did not meet my expectations at all.... To start our meal we ordered two glasses of pinot noir wine... One $15 and the other one $18... So this would give you an idea of how pricey this restaurant is... Then as for appetizer I ordered the beet salad. It was one of the most bland and tasteless salads I have everhad in my life... There was no acidity in there... It had goat cheese, greens and beets... So to make it tasty, I asked for a side of vinaigratte and the server brings me balsamic vinegar instead... Ummm, there is a difference between those 2! They provide you with a complimentary bread which tasted stale.... There were different kinds in there... One was covered with cheese which I thought it was too salty... But again that is my personal opinion.... As for the main course, I was interested in the catfish dish, so I asked our waiter (Jose), how that dish is, and he mentioned that "it is one of our most popular dishes". Oh lord, when the food came out, by just looking at the dish, I got full... It was a big catfish with head and everything still there... It was not a pretty dish to look at that's for sure... And if he had told me that it is a big portion I would have got something else....The fish came with a side of rice, pickled veggies and soy sauce... My husband ordered the NY strip which was very fatty... As for the dessert, we ordered their 'chocolate bread pudding' and guess what it was in there? Raisins!!!! Yes ofcourse there were chocolate in it but it also had raisins which was not disclosed in the menu.... As you can imagine the whole dining experience was not good.. I would not recommend it to anyone... The reason that one star is enough for this place is that they at least don't charge for the valet... Wooohoo!!! read more

Went here with my sisters for Dine LA. Came here on a Friday night with reservation but they let us wait for 30 mins. Initially they said wait for 10mins they will just fix the table but we waited for 30mins. SMH!! When we asked if our table is ready those ladies in front desk gave us attitude, c'mon really!!! They probably had a long day. Good thing the food is great, made our night. They have mixed bread basket as complimentary, really good. My sisters ordered oysters and I don't like oysters but still tried it, very tasty. If I want to get oyster again I would go back here. Desserts is very luscious!!! I was in a black mood but when I had my food feel like I'm over the moon. Parking is not a problem they have valet and it's not hard to find parking on the street. dine LA week it's $50 per person with 3 entrees. GOOD DEAL!! read more

First impression, complimentary parking is always welcomed. Giddy up. A smaller restaurant than I expected, it's split into four with four totally different styles. * Bar: seats 12 at the bar, old school, and about 6 tables. * Main room: white tablecloths, 2 and 4 seat tables, high vaulted ceiling with wood rafters, big round lights. * Back room: small, holds 6 tables, and available for private parties and business functions. * Covered patio: was setup for 1 large table. Nice and lovely setting, but enough for 12 peeps -- that's it. Food: 1. Bread basket ($free) - a beautiful arrangement with soft butter of 4-5 breads with one very erect cheese crisp. Talk about phallic? (4.5 stars) 2. Endive Salad ($11) - a bit bitter as expected, but delicious cheese, sliced apple and dried apricots...in a light dressing. mmmm. (4.5 stars) 3. Flatbread pizza with pears, cambozola cheese, walnuts ($12) - closer to a pizza than flatbread, but a med-large 6 slices. Nice, and very good crust and cheese. (4.5 stars) 4. Kobe Burger w/Sweet Potato Fries ($21) - Absolutely fab. The meat was finely ground, maybe in-house, and a very shiny and large bun. I could only eat half. Makes the top 10 in my burger list, http://www.yelp.com/list/berger-knows-burgers-beverly-hills. (5.0 stars) 5. Meyer Lemon Custard ($10) - a flan-like lemon custard paired with pistachio ice cream and drizzled with raspberry. It was "ok", but definitely the least fav of the night. (3.0 stars) The food was quite spectacular. The physical place and the older clientele keeps this from being a happening spot. But when you have a hot date, no one else matters. read more

Great experience during Dine LA Restaurant Week January 2016. We chose this restaurant because their menu showcased a lot of unique eats; that alone was worth the trip! This meal did not disappoint! Here is what we got: 1) Complimentary bread basket - This was amazing! It also wasn't so overwhelming that it filled us up but we couldn't help but try everything. There was a lot of different things available that you could smear the butter on. There were cheese crisps (big triangle one), bread sticks, wheat bread, raisin (or cranberry?) bread, and cornbread madeleines. I should have asked for a refill! 2) 1/2 Dozen Oysters on the Half Shell - The oysters were so fresh and had three different sauces to choose from (I believe they were a cocktail sauce, horseradish, and mignonette sauce - shallots in vinegar) to put before you slurped up the little sucker 3) Grilled Spring Lamb Lollipops - These were juicy, and the sweet fig relish made it sweet! 4) Grilled Filet Mignon - The filet mignon has got to be the best one I have ever had in my life! Every bit was so juicy, and very easy to cut, with no chewy fat to deter you from enjoying it. 5) Creme Brulee Napoleon - The creme brulee was sandwiched in between the phyllo layers, and it was fun dipping each bit into the caramel around it. 6) Butterscotch and Chocolate Brownie Trifle - From afar, it looked like a mousse dessert, but each spoonful was a surprise! I enjoyed the brownie at the bottom and the rich butterscotch pudding throughout! Everything was the perfect balance; the food came in well-timed intervals, the service was above and beyond, and ambiance was great for couples and groups. read more

We continue to come here. The food is always terrific and the service consistently first rate. This is definitely our go-to place when we want a special dinner out. I called around the better restaurants in Pasadena to see if they would be open for lunch the day after Christmas. My first choice, Maison Akira, which has excellent French cuisine accented with Japanese touches by Chef Akira who trained under the 3 etoile Guide Michelin chef, Joel Robuchon, was not open for lunch that day, so I called Parkway to find they were open for business. Parkway showed initiative. As we entered the foyer, we noticed that besides the Royce, the Parkway Grill may be the most well appointed dining room in all of Pasadena. AKA & Parkway Grill have similar interior touches such as dark wood paneling, huge floral display as the center piece, a clubby feel with upholstered seats, but the dining space at Parkway in one-upsmanship seems more like a bucolic, country manor, owned by some leisurely landed gentry. The number of help swarming around also adds to the effect of a grand manor. The servers coordinate either white or black napkins depending on the colors worn by the guest so as not to leave lint that is noticeable. Since this was still the winter holiday season, the foyer was graced by an old fashioned decorated evergreen with Santa Claus stockings, garlands, multicolored ornamental glass balls, silver star & gold star crowning the top. Lighted & decorated garlands of evergreen also were festooned along the rafters above while the mantel was graced with a festive wreath. I was pleasantly surprised that they do a rather lively bar business for lunch so that the 3 martini lunch is not as endangered as the whooping crane or the pupfish of Death Valley. Part of the reason for such popularity is professional & artisanal by doing such things as having bottles of liquor infusions such as Jalapeno Spiked Tequila, Dried Cherry Brandy, Barrel aged Whiskey or Bourbon for Manhattans & Old Fashions. Nice basket of dark whole grain dense bread w/ raisins & lightly toasted; corn bread shaped in the form of Madeleines; crisp, crunchy cheese flavoured lavash-like flatbread & grissini/breadsticks. Only the baguette slices were pedestrian. Having had the exemplary Fried Whole Catfish at Shiro in So. Pasadena where the frying was perfect with the meat still soft & a bit creamy with the skin being light & crisp tasting of fresh, sweet, light oil. The sides of the catfish were scored to insert thin slices of fresh ginger which when fried impart a slight spicy, "hot", aromatic medicinal flavor to ameliorate any signs of "muddiness" that used to be present in catfish caught in muddy waters. Seeing whole fried catfish on the Parkway menu brought pleasant memories of a dish that would be too difficult to duplicate at home. The Parkway version of the Fried Whole Catfish was initially acceptable although it may have been fried a bit too long so that the meat was no longer as supple & creamy . The soy sauce, Japanese rice vinegar, citrus based Ponzu sauce was well executed w/ toasted white sesame seeds & fresh cilantro sprigs to add into the sauce. The accompanying long grain rice with a bit of vinegared slices of carrot, cucumber on top made the rice a bit sour which detracted from the 'sweetness' of the jasmine-like rice. I paired the catfish with their Viognier/Chenin Blanc blend Barrel 27 "High on the Hog", Central Coast 2011 which was fragrant with tropical fruit & flowers, honey, lightly acidic which cleansed the palate. We shared the Chocolate Bread Pudding "studded w/ bitter sweet chocolate & crunchy coco nibs, espresso ice cream, chocolate sauce". Glad to have shared this dessert since the flavours were so rich that it sated us immediately. Even sharing one dessert, the waiter set the table with a full complement of eating utensils that included, extra dishes, fork & spoon. The service here tends to be thoughtful & courteous. The bad: About 5 hours after ingesting the whole catfish, I had a really bad case of heart burn & indigestion, & it was my only meal for the day. The catfish had a faintly evident "old oil" flavour, but not bad enough, I felt, to send it back to the kitchen. My theory is that the oil that the catfish was fried in was used many times & for a relatively long period of time for it to turn which may have been the cause for my digestive distress. This seemed to be a case of "penny wise, pound foolish". Sometimes cutting corners creates a very undesirable effect. I was initially aiming for a 4 Yelp star review, but this culinary hiccup lowers it one star. read more

This place deserves a 3.5 but not quite a 4. We started with the crab cakes, which were very good. Followed by the Caesar salad, it was good but nothing special. Next I had the short ribs, it was really good, tender and flavorful. Although I didn't really enjoy the sides. We also tried the scalloped potatoes as a side, that wasn't good at all. We were excited to try the creme brulee napoleon since we kept seeing all the other tables order it. Unfortunately, we were disappointed, all the layers were too hard and the sauce was way too sweet and tasted like butterscotch. It has a cool bar with a live piano player. Great place to enjoy a drink. Overall this place was good but not great. read more

I haven't been pleased with Smith Brother's restaurants since the pandemic hit. I realize all restaurants are suffering and I try to be understanding, but for what items cost a Smitty's I expected a higher level of care when it came to preparing my to-go order. The portions were tiny, much smaller than what is given during dine-in. The sandabs just looked sad and minuscule. I was not pleased. Then, I heard they had their own app and were starting delivery service. Feeling optimistic that perhaps they were headed back to what they once were, I ordered from Parkway. The clock literally timed out on my order and I received a message saying my money would be refunded because the restaurant was either too busy to fulfill my order or there was a connectivity issue. They should add another option, user error. My guess is someone is not familiar with the app...likely no training, and didn't know how to fulfill my order. I think it's great they have their own app but make sure tech is ready to go before rollout and be sure people know how to use it. I ordered at 5:30, I highly doubt Parkway was so busy no one could fulfill my order. So disappointing. Get it together! read more

Walked in on a busy Saturday night for my Birthday and appreciated the nice ambiance and jazz music playing. My girlfriend took me here and I was excited because I heard good things about this place. The bread basket was pretty good- a variety of bread types (my favorite being the flat, cheese bread). I highly judge by the free bread and they did a good job! We got a dozen oysters to start with, which unfortunately was very average and on the smaller side. The main dishes were strong- I got their lamb chops with blueberry compote (very good for lamb lovers!!!), while the Catfish with ponzu sauce was also very good (and very large!). We finished the meal with their chocolate lava cake, which is perfect if you like the more dark chocolate decadent type of cakes. For my birthday they did give me a cupcake and candle, which although simple, had a really nice flavor and better than most of those fancy cupcake stores. Overall a great evening with great food. I think the only thing preventing the 5 star review was their average service (especially for fine dining and on a special occasion) and the lackluster appetizer. Would definitely love to come back though on a less busy night! read more

Food 8/10. Service 8/10. Food a bit on the pricey side. The only thing I really dislike was that we arrived there before the valet parking staff and parked our cars our selves. Don't mind parking my car but do mind the valet parking staff chasing me and forcing me to pay the valet fee when they didn't even park my car. The guys was super rude and disrespectful plus wouldn't move until I paid him the fee. We spent $2000.00 on a diner for a party of 11. Hands down my favorite steakhouse. This place is so elegant and classy. I made reservations ahead of time to sit inside which I recommend because the decor is so warm, I loved that the lights were dim and mostly candles. Food was 10/10. I order the 1/2 Mary's chicken which was amazing and my boyfriend order the NY steak which he loved and I normally don't eat too much red meat but I will say this was really good, next time I'll order it. We also ordered a small bread basket which wasn't bad but wasn't anything amazing, I'd try something different next time. Next up was the lobster risotto which was really good and then the broccoli, broccoli was full of flavor, I loved both. We ended the night with a dessert and since we were celebrating the chef sent it out for free which I thought was very nice and made my boyfriend feel special, they also gave him a hand written note congratulating him. The dessert was a special that night, it was a key lime pie with fruit toppings and a side of raspberry sauce, very good and sour. We decided to bring our own bottle of wine that we loved, cork fee was only $35. The staff was extremely kind and attentive. Valet parking only but we found parking up the street.
