Parkside has a really nice ambiance. It has such an industrial feel yet it's classy. I went with some of my girlfriends during happy hour and their bar menu and cocktails were half off which was really nice because Parkside is generally pricey. Food: I ordered the cheeseburger which was absolutely fantastic. The burger was full of flavor and decorated nicely. The French fries that came with it were too salty though! The fries were actually overwhelmingly salty. I also tried my friend's fried calamari dish and it was also overwhelmingly salty. I've had better calamari at cheaper places also. Cocktail: I ordered the Strawberry Sunshine which was really good and it only came out to be $5 because of the happy hour special. I recommend it if you like sweet fruity drinks. Service: Our food came out relatively fast! And they decorated our plates very nicely! I would come back for happy hour only though. read more

Duh-li-cious! Parkside has a bit of a swanky vibe to it and the prices to match, but the food quality is well worth it. There were very limited vegetarian entrees, but between the starters and sides, there were enough options for my tastes. I went with the gnocchi starter (scrumptious, melt-in-your-mouth) and acorn squash side. It was a half of a squash meant for 2-3, but it was so good, I ate the whole thing! My friends also thought the squash was the best of the dishes, and they even had amazing tartar and ceviche (even "complained" that they got too much ceviche, just to give you an idea of the portions. I really enjoyed my few hours at Parkside...what was originally a brief lunch turned into an epic meal...and it was so much fun! It didn't hurt that I had GREAT company. My friend and I split some amazing oysters to start...Parkside has a nice wide selection of oysters...all of them delicious. We also had some bone marrow, as I mentioned, which was an entirely new experience for me, but I am very proud of myself for trying it. It was described to me by the waitress and my fearless friend as "meat butter." I can buy that...ha. It was quite different, but the wine helped me to be brave and try something new. For my actual entree, I had some kind of fish, that was also very good, but my four stars is really for the overall experience of eating outside on an upstairs patio, overlooking downtown Austin, eating good food, and sharing a bottle of wine with a friend. Parkside is a good place to eat if you are out on 6th Street and want a quality meal in a comfortable surrounding. The food was very good and fresh. They had a great selection of oysters the night that we were there and they tasted like they were pulled out of the water that day. Still had that ocean salty brine taste (yes, I know that they probably add it but still...). They aren't quite as organized on the gluten-free side in terms of choices but they were very accomodating and I was able to have a great meal that didn't have to compromise flavor or choice. I like this place, but dealing with Sixth Street is a hassle. Unless I'm out there for some other reason it's not a primary stop for me. The restaurant is a solid four for food and service. The location hassle makes it just tough for me. If you are visiting in Austin and downtown it's definitely worth a stop in. read more

Ok, I read a lot of good reviews. Unfortunately, I can only speak for myself right? For contribution purposes.... I surprisingly had the worse service experience here at Parkside... both times. Food delicious but service spoils my appetite. Firstly, I've been a server for a large chunk of my career so I am very understanding when someone were to make a mistake or if they're so in the weeds- I'll do a little waiting. But... My first experience here, It was very routine and urgent to get us in and out as fast as possible. The server didn't even ask us anything else than water to drink. She just poured us the water and left it at that. We were never able to even have a glimpse of our waitress after the food ordering- flagging her down for the ticket. Second experience did it for me. Walked in and hostess told us it will be a 45 minute wait unless we can find seating at the bar. We scour the bar area for a bit and sees and empty area in the bar area. A waiter swiftly tells us "sorry, the hostess must seats you." Confused, we asked if this was part of the bar area that was open seating and the waiter didn't reply and walked away. Again, I am willing to do a little waiting but what ticked me off was the response we got from the waiter when we inquired about our order. "There was just a big table in front of you and your order went in after them". Quickly he runs to the computer and does a little punching... As we watched food trays after food trays after food trays come out, the annoyance and impatience grew within me. The table next to us that clearly came afterwards had their appetizers meals and desert served. No backorders there... We waited 1 hr and 15 minutes for our food. Attention all servers: IF YOU MAKE A MISTAKE PLEASE OWN UP TO IT. If you forgot to put in the order, please do so quickly and quickfire the ticket. Do not put in the order and pray that it will come out fast enough! Asked for a manager and we got a bartender that ask what was wrong. No response, just fun gossip for the house I guess. This was the first time I've walked out of a restaurant. Politely as possible we ask to leave and cancel our order as we have somewhere to go. Waiter replies, "you probably have to pay for the mushrooms' (the 4 stuff mushrooms..) Now doubtfully angered, we simply start walking out. Um..hi. I just had the best burger of my life AND 2 dope cocktails for $20. If I can base the rest of the food off of the burger then I can tell you it is outrageously good. Our waitress was awesome and she even let us order double drinks so we could enjoy happy hour longer. A classy quiet oasis on dirty 6th. I can't speak to their regular menu but boy oh boy can I whole-heartedly SUPER recommend their happy hours as one of the best ones in Austin. Came here on a whime for a birthday celebration (they give a free glass of birthday wine) since my other reservation got cancelled last minute cause of a gas leak. It did get a little pricey and I'm not entirely convinced the food was worth "that high" of a tab, though it was pretty good. It's not a bad place, I guess I just wasn't feeling it or the food with the priceyness. Would I consider it in the future? Sure. Will it be on the top of my list? probably not. There is nothing about Parkside that echoes the monstrosity that is 6th aside from the filth that oozes in the door without a reservation looking for a table to scream about how some skank in their group is marrying some up and coming meth cook from Wemberley. From the oysters, to the crab fritter and sprouts, everything was very well prepared and presented. We picked this place from Yelp and vetted it with our local friends who all gave it good reviews minus the location. The first time I was here I just had oysters at the bar. I'm back at the bar and trying the marrow bones and grilled bar steak washed down with a siberian donkey. There is a bit of a wait for the bones and so the barman dropped off some bread to stave off the hunger pangs. The bread was fresh and definitely edible and went well with the flavored butter. The drink is based on stoli hot with ginger beer, lime with a jalapeño slice. Really good!!! The marrow bones were really good and I really enjoyed the lettuce and parsley on them. This is a gorgeous restaurant with a cool vibe and the food was excellent however our server seemed bothered by our mere existence was very slow the food came out at different times and she disappeared for most of our meal. This was the best dinner we had while visiting Austin. Beet salad and spring pea soup were perfect. Gnocchi was very intense - initially we thought oversalted, but I think just very intensified flavor. No complaints - my friend and I agreed we'd order it again. Black bass with shrimp and fennel was complex and satisfying. We would have tried some sides (they looked and sounded amazing) but had snacked earlier. The wine by the glass list is pretty masterful, with choices not easily found elsewhere. Our waiter was very helpful sorting through it and offered tastings. The atmosphere on a quiet later Sunday night was quiet and lovely for conversation. When I read the negative reviews here it seems like they are all from people wanting or expecting something else. This isn't a Sixth Street dive for your drunk bachelorette party or an Eddie V's chain. Someone who loves food is back in that kitchen, and someone who loves wine is assembling the wine list. Calamari: By far the best thing that we had, it was so good! But can you really mess up anything that is fried?! Took my girlfriend here for a nice night out in downtown. I'm from New Hampshire and took a chance on this place by others reviews. We were certainly not disappointed. Very attentive wait-staff and even better food. We started out with the Raw Sea Bass which was phenomenal. Then ordered a nice bottle of Pinot Grigio from a simple selection of wines. She had the sea scallops, slightly over salted but cooked perfectly. I had the duck which was spot on. For dessert we had the flourless chocolate cake and mango sorbet. Beautifully plated. Overall, when I return to Austin, I will return to Parkside. They definitely made an impression. read more

What a delicious and artful find! While not expecting seafood to be so delicious in Austin, Parkside had this beach-goer's tastebuds in awe over the delicious concoctions. We started with a ceviche made with salmon - who knew red fish in ceviche could be more flavorful than the normal white fish??? Followed by the shrimp & scallops as the main course that was creatively displayed on the plate with a sauce that was sublime. As amazing all of that was, the true game changer to the meal was the side order of carrots. Parkside is a restaurant in its torrid adolescence, a shockingly ill-fitting attempt to behave like an adult in the middle of high school gym class. The restaurant's contradictory nature appears very close to the surface, leaving diners tired and exasperated, forgetting that the food was rather good. Everything about this place confuses - it's located nowhere near the side of any park, it is a seafood restaurant with the aesthetic trappings of a brasserie, and its menu features many comma-delimited appetizers, a nearly-equal amount of comma-delimited entrees, but very little variety in terms of alcohol or anything else, for that matter. The mid-90's faded TrueType font on the menu looks a bit tired and sad, like a Duncan Sheik album cover. But the most confusing part of all is the way orders are taken and bills are tallied. We placed our orders, and then moments later were promptly delivered everything we didn't order - steak tartare, calamari, other assorted fishy odds and ends, Zesta crackers, and admittedly lovely bread and butter. We assumed that this appetizer gravy train was on the house, since the party consisted of two people who worked for businesses on 6th street; we were told it was a "perk" of "being in the industry". At this stage of the meal, we were enamored with Parkside, thinking that it not only served decent food but contained a brash, self-confident demeanor with the way it thrusted its appetizers at us, as if to say they are ready for us to reaffirm a reputation for being a bastion of civilized eating in an otherwise barf-laden party boulevard. But, like all delusions of grandeur, the artifice of the place was revealed. Time was dragging on, and none of the entrees were appearing. Instead of serving us the food we had ordered, oysters, chicken and steak, the waiter said that he assumed we didn't want our previous orders, despite the fact that nothing was ever mentioned remotely suggesting such a thing. He offered to have the kitchen actually fulfill the order we had placed 45 minutes ago, but it was midnight and we weren't going to wait. This put us in an awkward position of having eaten all of the appetizers without having anything but drinks to balance the ticket out with - we didn't want to leave looking like we had been cheap, or otherwise taking advantage of their generosity. But have no fear, we got the bill, and they charged us for all of the appetizers and all of the drinks. So this ridiculous schizo restaurant decided to ignore our request and instead deliver based on their internal whims. What kind of restaurant does this? Apparently, one that is already rife with contradiction. Parkside still doesn't seem to understand that what they did is like Cher's papa selling Dr. Good, it says one thing but does another. I hope, for the sake of its own mental health, that Parkside figures out who it wants to be when it grows up. If it wants to be a restaurant, then learn to take people's orders, cook them, and then charge them for it. Just like an adult has to use their blinkers and file their tax return, there are some simple steps to doing things correctly, and I suggest that Parkside remember that before it tries to shuffle our food orders like a stacked deck of cards. read more

I still like this place. I'm a sucker for fresh Oysters, and their raw bar does not disappoint. The menu runs the gamut, but there is always something interesting. Last time in I tried a small assorted raw plate and a lamb duo dish. Both were tasty and creatively prepared. The vibe here works too--nice without being snooty. The fried donut hole dessert is just right as well. The chef here has great credentials (Jean-Luc's Bistro), and this new concept is also working, if a bit on the expensive side. I was in town for a bachelor party and we met up with the rest of our group who stopped at Parkside for some food. I didn't eat, but from what I heard and saw, everything was excellent. I was more focused on the drink and they did a stellar job. They had a creative selection of bitters to bring out the most palate pleasing flavor notes. After moving away from the bar area, we sort of took over the area in front by the window and had another group meet up with us. My first visit to Parkside was bitter sweet. We were toasting my manager leaving this wonderful city. Hence the sadness for losing an coworker, but Parkside! Dude I hear this place has awesome oysters! We had a variety of the happy hour menu such as the friend okra, calamari and garlic fries. Being a calamari snob, I wasn't into Parkside's version. It was so freaking salty. We moved on to the fried okra. Whoa.....too salty. Garlic fries are next....guess what? Way, way too much salt. I almost wanted to mention the insane amount of seasoning, but I wasn't paying for it, and we let the apps sit and get cold. A few of us ladies did splurge on a dozen oysters. I can't remember the name, but our server mentioned they were from the East coast. Yes, they were excellent and well worth the happy hour pricing. Another kudos to have St. Germaine cocktails. You really can't go wrong with 3-4 St. Germaine's at the end of the day. So I'm not sold on the food. Actually, I don't think I will ever order anything else here besides oysters and booze. And that's a shame because if it was possible to deduct the horrid over salting of the food, I would have given better props. read more
