The bread is extremely thick (which isnt a problem) but in between the unevenly sliced pieces of bread was the most pathetic 1/4inch thick piece of steak, and barely any cheese. Ugh. Never again. 4:30 on a Saturday afternoon. Place is mostly empty, but almost every table is piled with garbage that hasn't been bussed yet. Way overpriced for what you get. In particular, the kids meals were ridiculous. For about $6, they get a SMALL serving of a main (such as soup or mac and cheese) and a tiny side item, such as a piece of bread or apple. I chose the apple option and they bring out whole apples. I asked them for a knife to cut them as my kids are not able to eat whole apples due to wiggly teeth, and they make a big deal, then bring out a table knife like they are doing me a big favor. Not cool. I go back to ask if they can cut the apples themselves if they can't provide me with a sharp knife and after about 5 minutes, they bring out some weird chopped pieces of apple that still have seeds and core on each slice, so I end up using that table knife anyway, so that they are edible for my kids. Then, I had been wondering why the meal was so expensive and after looking at my bill, I see that they have charged me $3 EACH for a "soft drink" for my two young kids. Of course, my kids don't even drink soft drinks and I certainly had not ordered them. Why does the kids meal not include a milk or small juice for $6, anyway?!? I then had to wait in line a second time to get them to call over the manager to refund the 2 sodas. He says sorry, but no offer of anything to compensate for the inconvenience. Meanwhile, since I'm there with my kids alone, I'm trying to keep track of them while dealing with all these issues. The most interesting thing is that the family at the table next to us also had two kids. They had pretty much the exact same experience. They got their food, looked at it, and I heard the mom say, "we just paid $60 for $15 worth of food." They pulled out the whole apples for their kids and I hear them say, "really? Whole apples?" Then, it turns out they also were charged for an item they didn't get -a bagel. So the mom goes to wait in line to get the bagel that they paid for while the dad waits with the kids. By the time she was back with the bagel, the rest of her family had finished eating their food (except for the apples, which the kids had not touched). My kids and I got out of there and headed home. Within an hour, they were complaining of of being hungry, so we all had a second dinner. read more

Most of the time I like this place. But boy o boy did they mess up this time. It started at check in. Someone had left their credit card in the machine and our order was changed to them. The checkout person didn't act like it was a big deal. I ordered our food and more problems they only had 1/2 of the order and others were waited on us before we got our food. It took 30 minutes. Crazy!!! In the mean time I walked around the store asking if anyone had lost their card. No one from the store had even asked or tried to find out. Ordered online with a rapid pickup arrived after the email stated it would be ready, well they do drive thru orders first rapid pick up means nothing. They refused to make my sandwich quicker than 20-30 minutes. Why order online rapid pickup when it means nothing. And refund will take 3-5 days. Today is the third time I've been to this Panera Bread in Kelso Wa and hell will have to freeze over before I go again. I have been to several in California and Oregon and love their food and service. The last time a year ago I said I would never go again. This time I mean it. I was there in about 15 minutes/ five miles one way. I had placed a phone order of a Strawberry Poppyseed Salad with Chicken to pick up inside because I wanted bread and a pastry. The scruffy looking young male at counter ask my name, I gave and he asked what I had ordered. I told him and he said "we don't have any Romaine lettuce". We have (can't remember the type). Saw the salad I wanted..it was $7.79 for the half II wanted..and the 4 pack of Cinnamon Rolls was $8.99...when I got my food..it was way overcharged..was charged $8.39 for salad and the cinnamon rolls were $13.99. The floor has some drain on floor of course like most restaurants do but this one is covered up with garbage wrappers and more lint like stuff. I just ordered from Panera I paid $20 for delivery a tiny cup of soup $1.60 bread bowl and $1.50 bagel and $1.50 cream cheese and with the soup and all of that and delivery it came to $20 and I'm still starving. When you ordering from Panera on delivery kings its very deceiving. When you hit bowl of soup and then you hit bread bowl it changes it to a cup and a bowl. Having lived on the East Coat we've eaten at our fair share of Panera's. This was by far our least favorite experience, ever. They took our order. 20 minutes later we were still waiting for someone to come to our table (a feature I HATE by the way--why try to make it fancy it's fast food for goodness sake!) I went on a mama bear rampage and found someone. Guys, we had three antsy hungry little kids and THEY DIDN'T PUT OUR ORDER IN! They had ONE job. One! Let me start by saying I have never had anything here that was bad, but the portions are small and the ordering system is a bit confusing. I have had good luck online, that was actually easy and quick, but inside the self checkout is always glitching and confusing. Just go to the cashier. I was going to give it three stars, but based on the sheer fact that I go here a lot, look forward to going, and enjoy it when I do go, I felt that I had to give it four stars! It's new, but actually, since it's taken so long to finally get on Yelp, it's not hearing my sort of negative initial thoughts! It does take a while whether you go in, or drive through, but it's gotten much faster! I've been a fan of Panera for a few years now, ever since I went to one out of town, so I was kind of prepared for it to be overpriced. Not to say that the food isn't good, but it just doesn't feel like you're paying the right amount. The Food is actually great, though, as well as the employees that I've encountered! They recently added Delivery, which I haven't tried yet, but it could be pretty good, probably. Especially since there's only so many places that deliver, here in town, and even less options! It's also right by two of my favorite places to go in town, and one of them I frequent a lot, so it's really trying to ask for me to come, with its convenience, and its "being good-ness!" It's not my favorite place to eat in town, by FAR, but it's definitely solid, and in terms of quality, one of the best in town! (It's in the Taco Time realm, for fast food. Some of you may not have known that, since we didn't have a Panera, any closer than Vancouver, up until less than a year ago!) In the end, I'd definitely recommend it, but you should probably AT LEAST, know what you're getting yourself into, but also be fully prepared. The food is very good, with nice variety, BUT the kitchen staff seems often disorganized and many orders are incorrect. * Today my Greek Salad was missing the olives. I asked for toasted bread on the BLT, but it wasn't. IT'S A BLT - the bread should be TOASTED. And I asked. And the Mac&Cheese was missing. * The 16th I gave the sales person a hand-written sandwich order, and she still got it wrong. The evening manager gave me evil looks for handing the order back. Don't need the attitude, thanks. * She didn't make the new, still incorrect sandwich until she had spoken to the sales person.....really? I thought Customers were Important. * In 5 orders the last 3 weeks they included things I SPECIFICALLY asked them not to: utensils & baguettes, and a slightly rotten apple. * Asked if the pepperoni pizza had tomato sauce on it, they said yes, but I'll be darned if I could find it. Very dry and unhappy for a pizza. * Hanging around waiting for my order I've spoken to others also waiting who say it often takes too long to get food. One lady said she'd been waiting for nearly 2 hours. My order came out before hers....explain that? We had door dash deliver an order from Panera bread. We ordered a pepperoni flat bread pizza and a large macaroni and cheese. When I picked up the order from my porch. It struck me how light it was. It weighed almost nothing. What we got was a pizza comparable in taste to little Caesar's. It was only half the size of a little ceazar's. The large macaroni and cheese was small. The pizza was over eleven dollars, macaroni and cheese was the same price. With delivery fees total cost was $31.00, and that was with a $:3.00 off coupon. Rarely have I felt so uncomfortable in a restaurant. I've been to 100 Panera's traveling for work, and this one is very very off. The atmosphere is one of being in a military unit. I'm an ex-military officer so it was recognizable. I could hear the general manager Bob yelling at employees all over the restaurant on countless occasions. The lettuce wasn't changed properly, what's the matter with you I asked for 1 coffee not 2, etc etc. Bob also conducted loud business on the phone right in the lobby. It was....unsettling. The place was also ice cold, very little heat; the place was nearly empty all day, not a surprise. Clearly, no one at this location is considering the customers point of view. Food was handed out and your order recited to you word for word; upon finishing your meal, your fork didn't hit the table before someone took your plate. I've never been at a Paneras where I felt like I was being watched the entire time, because, actually I was :) I have no doubt the management sees these as good things but as a customer it's odd, uncomfortable, and ultimately alienating.
