I particularly don't even like breakfast but my son and boyfriend do, so we thought we'd try it out. Recommended by a friend. Honestly, service was alright. It's very much a old time diner who has the same regulars every day and night. It's a pretty chill place. Was calm and not too loud. Our waitress seemed new or could be because we were new lol. Aside from that, the place was cute. Parkings ehhh, but it makes sense for Rainier. Food was no different than any other breakfast joint. Not to hate, I swear, just what I thought. What a great little cafe! We have been back now about 5 times to try new items on the menu. (See pics) This is an old fashion cafe with old fashion charm. This is so worth the drive if you don't live nearby! We've eaten at Cornerstone Cafe about 5 X since we discovered it. The prices are competitive but the portions are beyond generous! Today the Captain's Platter went to Hubby and I ordered the Teriyaki Ham steak dinner. That ham was about 3/8" thick! Just enough mashed potatoes with it and the broccoli was done just right. Now for the CaptainPlate! Wow! Everything was heaped up on a big baking sheet. We took one look at it and decided we would work on hubby's meal and take mine home for tomorrow...along with a FULL to-go box of what we couldn't finish of the Platter! The atmosphere is clean and cozy with farmhouse type decor. Lots to look at on the walls while anticipating a great meal. The service is great in spite of the fact that they've been busy every time we've been in. All of the staff are personable and go out of their way to make sure you have what you need. Dropped into The Cornerstone Café on Mother's Day and somehow landed in the sweet spot between the early crowd and the line of hopefuls--seated in under five minutes. Call it luck, or divine breakfast intervention. I had the Dave Dave Omelette--packed with meats, tomatoes, and onions--alongside golden, crispy hashbrowns and a side of gravy that really sealed the deal. Two Bloody Marys helped me recalibrate my attitude and sealed in the mood. My husband went for the Chicken Fried Pile-Up, and let me tell you: it was exactly what it sounds like. A glorious stack of rich, comforting food--hot, hearty, and not for the faint of appetite. Service? Stellar. Jaime was quick, kind, and had the reflexes of a hummingbird. She kept the tea coming, the check timely, and offered a few good laughs about kids. Everyone was hustling--it was clearly a packed house--but still felt personal and warm. Best moment of the day? As we pulled away, we caught sight of two dads exiting a nearby tavern, clearly having snuck in for a quick Michelada before making a beeline back down the hill to their families. First of all server was very friendly and welcoming. We shared a roast beef sandwich and each had soup. Even though we were sharing one item they plated it up separately very nicely. Oh Wow! I can't believe we visited in the past and never got around to visiting again. Well, now we have and it's even better than I remembered. This time it definitely deserves 5 stars and that's only because I can't give more here. Okay .. so, it can use some updating on the interior and seating but the food is good, it wipes out the need for fancy stuff. We ordered the hot roast beef open sandwich and turkey open sandwich. This place does not use processed meats. The turkey was just like you would fix yourself at Thanksigiving. Everything was delicious and so very much of it. The service was also fabulous. Last time! We had supper there 2 days ago. I ordered a dinner salad and one slice of garlic toast. We were shocked by the increase in price on their new (same food choices) menus before ordering. When the bill came I was stunned that my one small slice of garlic toast was $4! Really? I know about inflation an all but $4? Most menu items had increased $2-4. They were really pushing a slice of pie for dessert. That item has never been much. The price was increased to $8 a slice for a diner! The waitress was inattentive and ignored us mostly. Then she wanted a 15-20% tip! We have frequented this restaurant for many years and have never had a disappointing experience like this. I had to ask to have the seat wiped of food before I could sit down. Several of the booth seats desperately need cushion repair. The walls could really use a cleaning too. It is unlikely we will return. They also have a mouse trap outside the building on the side street. Onion rings had jumped 130% of what they were! The night I ate there there were 4 other diners in the place...Maybe that says something... read more

First time I stopped in I had the chicken fried pile up which was basically a scramble with chicken fried steak and gravy on top. It was different and tasted fine, but I think I like it the old fashioned way better. Im going with two stars because the last time I tried to go there, someone that looked like the dishwasher, said it would be an hour wait even though there was an empty booth, table, and spots at the counter. There wasn't anyone waiting and the guy found every excuse why we should go elsewhere. We ended up at the pancake house and were seated in 10 mins even though the place was much busier and there were a couple people already waiting to be seated. Won't be back. Very few places impress me. Even FEWER burgers impress me. This place has it all. When I came a few months ago, I was so impressed that I took that time to think about how this review should go. They have a really nice looking restaurant. It's got pretty good positive vibes, and just feels simple. In the best way possible. It feels like a family restaurant, and that's in part due to the nice and efficient service. Everyone did a great job. Now onto the food, because that's the most important part aside from their cool outdoor seating availability. I thought they had a FANTASTIC bacon cheeseburger. Best bacon and best patty I've ever tasted, and that's coming from a guy who said his friends HOMEMADE one was the best he'd ever had. Plus they have some drinks, like the Arnold Palmer, which is what I got. It was heavenly. Nearly the best part of the whole experience. I love tea, and I love an Arnold Palmer, but this was a top tier concoction. My Mom was also a fan, enjoying the fact that her salad had lots of real and fresh seeming vegetables, and not small bite size amounts. (It even came with beets, which she doesn't like, so I had a treat.) Overall, this place just looks like home. With a great burger, fries, and Arnold Palmer, you can't go wrong coming here. They have plenty of other options too. Including where you sit to eat. Definitely check this place out it you haven't. I'll be coming back at some point. I've been stopping by this place, usually for lunch for 35 or so years. Over that time, the place has changed hands a few times. One thing that has remained consistent throughout the years is that even with new owners, the service and the food quality can vary wildly with each visit. I gather that there is a high turnover in the kitchen and with the wait staff which strikes me as odd considering how small a town Rainier is. Usually, a little restaurant in a little town that is mostly frequented by townies has a staff that boasts being employees that have worked there for 20, 30 and even 40 years. Not so here... My most recent visit here was as a take-out only venue. It's difficult to rate a restaurant based on a take out order since food served up in a Styrofoam container is always going to disappoint compared to hot food served up on a porcelain plate. Still.... it was "ok" and probably the best, if not the only "family" restaurant in town. I'll be glad when this scamdemic bs is over with and we can all go back to sitting down to a meal like normal humans again. This place used to run specials like meat loaf, pot roast and other family dinner items along with some pretty decent sandwich specials. Hoping to see them here again in 2021. For me, the wait staff has always been fine although I have to say that it doesn't take much to make me a happy camper. Take my order quickly and service it up hot as soon as the cook "rings the bell".... and keep my coffee cup filled and you'll get a generous gratuity every time. read more

This is great place to visit when you are close to Rainier, Oregon. Drove down to see my grandkids who live Ridgefield, wa. Exited in Longview and went across the bridge to go to Rainier for a bite to eat. Ordered the Chicken fried steak for breakfast and my wife got the French dip. This place is our go-to in Rainier. It's pretty much what is expected from a "greasy spoon diner" and it fully does not disappointment. Our typical meals include the Cornerstone Club, the bacon cheeseburger, chicken strips, Cobb salad. The onion rings are pretty good overall. Breakfast has the usual fair although I have preferred the combo that includes biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns.
