This place... was the absolute best fish and chips I've ever had. While I must say, they had run of fries once we had gotten there, I ended up getting onion rings instead. And everything was perfect. The fish was so juicy, and battered to perfection, and the onion rings were some of the best I've had. Our waitress so sweet, very knowledgeable of the menu, and was very diligent at her job. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming, and you felt at home with a beautiful view of the sea. I would recommend going here for breakfast, lunch, or dinner! What an amazing find on the riverside road! The atmosphere was casual, the servers were friendly and the food was delicious. We had the Hot Beef and Gravy platter....wow! We were just traveling outside of Rainier, but looking for somewhere to have lunch. We loved the old-town local restaurant hangout vibe. Our lunch (my husband actually ordered breakfast for lunch) was so good. My husband said it was the best bacon he's ever had! Driving through town and stopped in for brunch on a Sunday. It was busy, but not a terrible wait. Staff was friendly, service was prompt and the food was delicious. I got the taco chilli relleno omlette with Hashbrowns and my husband got the Denver Omlette with pancakes. Food was hot and filling. Hashbrowns were done to perfection, plenty of cheese in the omlettes and the pancakes were light, fluffy and the size of my head! Lots of leftovers! read more

Great little cafe with good food and great service! I'm a chicken fried steak fan and after seeing a Facebook post asking for best chicken fried steak places locally, and seeing several recommendations for the Cornerstone Cafe, I knew I had to give it a try. It was quite busy on the Saturday we decided to visit. Had about a 10 minute wait for a table. When we were seated, our waitress was very friendly and prompt. In addition to coloring pages for the kids, there is also a shelf with various toys. My grandsons loved the toys. I ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast (of course) and my daughter ordered the Kristina breakfast sandwich. This was a French toast, egg, provolone cheese and egg sandwich. On the advice of the waitress, my daughter opted for bacon rather than the ham. Also came with their wonderfully perfectly crispy hashbrowns. I'm not sure why these hash browns were so much better than other hashbrowns, but they truly were. My chicken fried steak was very good as well. We found this delightful cafe completely by accident. Our GPS had routed us along the Columbia River to avoid traffic delays on Route 5 South. Stopping in the small town of Rainer OR made our trip so much more pleasant. The service was wonderful and so friendly. We sat outside at one of the sidewalk side tables. The food was served hot and was delicious. I had a grilled cheese with ham sandwich on sourdough bread which was so fresh and grilled to perfection. The weather contributed as it was 75 degrees and sunny. Make the choice to get off the Highway routine and visit this Cafe. You won't be disappointed, in my humble opinion. read more

We eat here often or order to go. Other than not having their Poppy Seed dressing their Cobb Salad is SO good with Ranch, too!! I order mine with iceburg lettuce, chicken, and hold the blew cheese crumbles. YUM read more

Great small town diner, very pleased with everything here, from the ambiance to the food to the wait staff, super! I had the powerball Burger, not for the included powerball ticket but because it sounded tasty, and it was. Had apples, bacon, cheese, and some type of dressing, honey mustard like but wasn't. Plate came loaded with fries, and I mean loaded, and they were tasty for fries!. They were a meal just by themselves. The wait staff made the difference and will definitely be back! Once again the Cornerstone cafe comes through with consistently poor service and consistently poor food. Our waitress explains that the cook is trying to quit smoking so he is a bit grouchy. A small cafe in Rainer oregon. This place is a staple of the town and was recommended by a coworker who lives in Rainer. My experience was okay, not spectacular. The food was just okay S well. (I had eggs and hash browns). Sadly their were fruit flies flying around the dinning area so it was a bit irritating. The service was good. What more can you expect from your hometown meeting place? Rainier is a typical small town + adjoining rural area. There are no chain franchises aside from the Chevron and Shell stations, no real grocery store, and everyone in the area is either related or knows each other (maybe the last one is an exaggeration, but it sure seems like it). The Cornerstone, located appropriately on a street corner, is perfect as a local meeting place, but it affords as much to those who are just passing through, with decor that feels right at home (excluding the men's room full of vintage signs and posters), and cheerful, friendly staff. I have eaten breakfast at this place twice, and I have found it very enjoyable both times. The sausage links are a MUST, they are über delicious, and are worth it alone. Sadly, they aren't homemade, but they are from the region (not sure where, though.) The biscuits and gravy are slightly disappointing, due to a lack of sausage, but are tasty nonetheless. Add an array of egg and omelet options, pancakes and waffles, and coffee, and you have a perfect breakfast, whether you are going to Seattle, or are just out the door earlier than usual. read more

This is an adorable cafe with nice "hometown" charm. The staff is friendly, attentive and prompt. Everything looks very clean, including the men's restroom. The coffee is good, standard coffee. Soft drinks were good, with plenty of carbonation. I ordered the Dave Dave Omelette and my 12 yo son ordered The Andy sandwich. Both were very good. Nothing fancy, just solid ingredients combined well. Overall I think one can expect good, fresh fare in hearty portions served in a friendly manner within an atmosphere the exudes local, friendly charm. read more

Have eaten here many times. Love the breakfasts, everything on the breakfast menu is awesome. But, recently I ordered a french dip sandwich to go and I was so disappointed. The meat was leftover pot roast and it was actually CRISPY in many places. It was incredibly chewy. It was just plain awful. A french dip is made with sliced roast beef, not shredded pot roast that was obviously left over. Ugh. read more

This hometown favorite is perfect. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and it's cozy. For breakfast, the Kristina is my favorite - it is Cornerstones version of a breakfast monte cristo. Locals already know Cornerstone. But if you're on your way to Astoria, you should stop in. You won't be disappointed. read more

My husband and I ate here yesterday, traveling through town. This was a great find! Prices were good and servings large! We had the tomato soup, tuna fish sandwich, wings and side salad. Very impressed with all items--all home made, even the dressing--we had the ranch and blue cheese--everything was delicious. Wings were crisp with a light sauce. Side salad was much more impressive than the usual -- included baby corn, whole carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, mixed greens and as mentioned--delicious salad dressing. Soup was also much more than the usual plain campbells! Only recommendation was the sandwich could have used some pickles or relish, in my opinion. We will be back for sure! read more

Stopped in to grab breakfast to go and had a great experience! "The Benny" had delicious hollandaise sauce and the hash browns were crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. The pancakes were fresh off the griddle and a decent size. Ordered a coffee and hot chocolate and were all set! The best part was the friendly waitress/cashier. She offered us extra condiments, straws, spoons, and anything to help make us more comfortable with our takeout. 10/10 would recommend if you're looking for a pleasant small-town feel. read more
