We tried the tuna nachos, the po' boy special, and the chipotle burger. The nachos were amazing...just the right balance of flavors with a hint of sweet spice I hadn't noticed before. The burger was smoky, charred to perfection, and my husband couldn't get enough of his sandwish (he actually admitted he loved the food this time!). Fries weren't quite what I remembered, missing a bit of that crunch and sweet-salty punch. Service was friendly and attentive, checking water and offering boxes at the right moments. Food and service are outstanding. The selection is fantastic as well. My only reason for giving 4…read morestars rather than 5 is because of the pricing. Basil Bandwagon is overpriced for their deli and many of the items they carry. At the same time it is very good quality stuff, just pricing is my only "complaint" so to say. I realize this is a very wealthy area, and Basil Bandwagon does put out some coupons here and there which is appreciated. It is certainly more of A $$$ store than $$ in which I think they would still be profitable, yet a bit more fair. In any circumstance if you're looking for good quality, very healthy stuff it is a great spot to try out. Also the portions on most things at the deli counter are very nice with their sandwiches. Staff is also very helpful & knowledgeable.

On my most recent visit to my hometown of Flemington, I took a trip to Basil Bandwagon to grab…read moresomething healthy (and vegan) for our long flight home back to the West coast. I learned that Basil Bandwagon has been open for 25 years. The year they opened, I was eating cold Pop Tarts while running to catch the school bus at 6:55am. In those days, fat-free was all the rage and considered "healthy" -- never mind all the refined carbs, loads of sugar, and preservatives. These days, I'm a strict vegetarian who is mostly vegan. I cook a lot and eat fresh produce daily. I appreciate that BB offers a healthy alternative to basically all the crap fast food otherwise available in the area. We ordered a wrap from the cafe and decided to eat it there. The seating was a counter with a few bar stools but it was clean if not spacious. My husband and I shared the "Freebird" wrap -- tofu-based mock chicken, sprouts, lettuce, tomato, and vegan mayo. It came with potato chips. Wow, this was so good! Clean tasting, hearty, and delicious. I was so impressed with it that we grabbed a prepackaged wrap from the cold case to take on the plane with us. We also picked up a few other vegan sandwiches which were okay tasting but overall too dense and heavy. Next time, I'll stick with the housemade items. I do find it a little annoying that BB doesn't seem to carry as many vegan items as they do things that are "paleo" and gluten-free. I also find that some of their food items are so outrageously overpriced that you'd be better off hunting around at the local grocery stores instead of purchasing them here. The next time I'm in town, I'll be there to order another yummy item from the cafe. Thanks Basil Bandwagon for catering to us "healthy" folks looking for something tasty and satisfying to fill our bellies.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I realized there was a new owner. We were tired and hungry so decided to stay. We were the only ones there and asked if we could eat in. A gentleman walked over to the register and replied of course. If you guessed he was the new owner, you'd be correct. He ended up serving us, and because I've somehow grown up to be that person who talks to the people, I asked a lot of questions. I'm sorry o don't remember his name, but he was very genuine and gracious. He's been redoing the restaurant gradually himself, while also cooking and doing all the other tasks necessary to run a new restaurant. Onto the food. We ordered a lot of it and it was all delicious. Fresh, seasoned well, and exactly as described in the menu. We started with some dips served with fresh pita and the dolmades. I then had the chicken gyro while my partner enjoyed the chicken shawarma platter. We opted for the Greek fries and the Greek potatoes as our sides. Suffice it to say we were eating of each other's plates. The flavors were bright and tasty. The potatoes were really out of this world. I really enjoyed my gyro, but the chicken shawarma seasoning was spectacular! The restaurant itself is also very welcoming with art by local artists on the wall, and for sale. We hadn't saved room for dessert, but the owner explained each one to us when I asked about the differences. Bottom line is that we will definitely be back again!

The restaurant is tucked behind a Walgreen's and proximate to an urgent care on a side street off Rt 31, so that might explain it. We arrived for dinner on a random Thursday. The dining room is large, clean, bright, and had a lot of empty tables, but few patrons. They have a take-out business and it was sort of rainy outside, so that explained it in my head. The server came right away and took our beverage orders (it's a BYOB and I still can't get used to that concept). We ordered our meals after our drinks arrived. I like to keep it simple on a first visit. If you've seen my other reviews, it sorta makes sense. I got the linguine, with mushroom sauce and meatballs. It gives me a chance to see if the pasta is boxed or not, how fresh the ingredients are, the taste of the sauce, and if they can make a decent meatball. The linguine was made in the kitchen from scratch and the mushroom marinara was delicious. The meatballs are amongst the best I've had in the area, including two NYC Little Italys (Manhattan and Bronx). The salad was fresh and crisp and the bread came out warm and delicious. It's a bit of a drive from Clinton, but I am going to try their pizza at my next takeout opportunity.

I recently visited this Egyptian restaurant in Flemington, and I feel like more people should know…read morethat it's been under new ownership for the past few years. It's such a great local spot, and I don't think enough people realize what it is or how good it's become. My mom and I stopped in for lunch and sat outside on Main Street, which was honestly so lovely. It felt really special to just sit, enjoy a great meal, and be part of the community. We met Mo, who took such great care of us and made the whole experience feel warm and welcoming. We started with the hummus, which was incredibly fresh and smooth, and you could tell everything was made with care. For our mains, we had the lamb chops and the lemon chicken, both of which were delicious. The lamb was tender and perfectly cooked, and the lemon chicken had such a bright, balanced flavor. The potatoes were a standout, roasted and finished in a lemon butter that made them unforgettable. If you haven't been in a while, or didn't realize there's been a change, it's definitely worth stopping in. Main Street businesses could really use the support, and this place is one that deserves it. Go say hi to Mo and give it a try.

We…read morewere on Main Street for the Flemington Car Show featuring Corvettes and decided to have dinner at Matt's afterward. I had originally made an 8:00 reservation through Tock since the show was scheduled to run until then, but we left after the trophies were awarded around 7:00. Matt's was able to accommodate us nearly an hour early. Matt's is located inside what feels like a historic home, with several dining areas including one reached by stairs immediately after entering. It was busy when we arrived, although by around 8:30 there was plenty of seating available. The tables are fairly close together but not so close that you feel crowded, and the noise level was moderate. We could easily have a conversation while occasionally overhearing the owner explaining the origin of the restaurant's name. I started with the Rooster House Salad, which was very good. It had just enough honey-sherry vinaigrette without overpowering the marinated vegetables. For my entrée, I had the Prime Hanger Steak medium rare. It was cooked properly, and I particularly liked the accompanying horseradish steak sauce. My wife started with the Rustic Wild Mushroom Soup and had the Fire Roasted Shrimp Pasta for her entrée. She enjoyed both. The pasta had at least half a dozen good-sized shrimp and was a large enough portion that she brought some home. Matt's is BYOB, but I managed to leave our bottle of wine at home. They also offer a selection of local Unionville wines by the bottle, with half bottles available for some selections, so we ordered a half bottle of Unionville Cabernet Sauvignon. Service from Dave K. was very good. My wife almost left her leftover pasta behind, and Dave actually ran outside to catch us before we left. We've consistently enjoyed our dinners at Matt's, and this visit was no exception. Being able to accommodate us well ahead of our reservation and Dave making sure we didn't leave without our leftovers were particularly appreciated.
