We've lived in NJ for roughly 10 years now and I am not sure why we hadn't heard of this place. We have a couple of local "go to's" when it comes to Italian style food, but I don't know for certain how this place evaded us. The restaurant is tucked behind a Walgreen's and proximate to an urgent care on a side street off Rt 31, so that might explain it. We arrived for dinner on a random Thursday. The dining room is large, clean, bright, and had a lot of empty tables, but few patrons. They have a take-out business and it was sort of rainy outside, so that explained it in my head. The server came right away and took our beverage orders (it's a BYOB and I still can't get used to that concept). We ordered our meals after our drinks arrived. I like to keep it simple on a first visit. If you've seen my other reviews, it sorta makes sense. I got the linguine, with mushroom sauce and meatballs. It gives me a chance to see if the pasta is boxed or not, how fresh the ingredients are, the taste of the sauce, and if they can make a decent meatball. The linguine was made in the kitchen from scratch and the mushroom marinara was delicious. The meatballs are amongst the best I've had in the area, including two NYC Little Italys (Manhattan and Bronx). The salad was fresh and crisp and the bread came out warm and delicious. It's a bit of a drive from Clinton, but I am going to try their pizza at my next takeout opportunity. read more

We've been in the area for a year Ava have only gotten pizza from Capuano. To "celebrate" our anniversary in the area, we decided to try the dining room. The inside is quaint, with brick and stucco walls. My wife ordered the penne with broccoli. I ordered the linguini alla vongole (linguini with clams) in white wine sauce. Both entrees came with soup or salad. We both chose salad. They also brought some warm bread to the table with oil for dipping, though the bread did seem a little dry. I prefer my bread to be a bit more stretchy/chewy. We both enjoyed our meals. They were a good portion size, with nothing left to bring home. For dessert, I chose the affogato (special), my wife went with the fudge cake, and both of us had cappuccino. It is a BYOB but there is a liquor store next door if you want a bottle (or two) of wine. read more

I love the food at Capuano's. I'm always satisfied with my meal when I'm there. On my most recent visit, I had the Chicken Capuano with a side of Broccoli Rabe. The sauce with the chicken was very flavorful and the chicken was tender. The broccoli rabe side was wonderful. It was crisp-tender, filled with garlic and I actually loved that it was cut into smaller pieces so I didn't have to struggle trying to cut it myself. It can be a little unruly. I also enjoyed their cannoli and a decaf cappuccino with dessert. The interior is no frills but it's clean and the wait staff is competent. Our food came out quickly too. read more

So it's Monday, most places are closed, so thought I'd try take out from Capuano's. Wish I didn't. Don't know if they had their 2nd or 3rd string staff working tonight. A simple order of Mozzarella sticks and mushroom pizza. The sticks were terrible. Thick, heavy tasteless coating surrounding dry mozzarella. They should find somewhere better to get their frozen sticks. The sauce that goes with them wasn't very good either. The pizza was average at best. Heavy cheese, light on sauce. Wrong ratio. Lastly, called in the order. 15 minute drive and had to wait 20 minutes. Counter staff was unfriendly. Will not go back for take out. Hope my Monday experience is not indicative of this place the rest of the week. read more

My dad has pretty high standards when it comes to meatballs. If I felt nervous bringing a B paper home in high school, I would imagine waitresses bringing my dad his spaghetti and meatballs feel a similar level of anxiety. He claims to be able to tell (without a doubt!) when meatballs are homemade or frozen. With that said, Capuano's has passed his test. Great pizza and great dishes. We usually get take out but have gone in to eat once or twice. And a little bonus is that they are open late (for Flemington standards). I love a good chicken parm so that's usually my go to but the spaghetti and meatballs are dad approved. Buon appetito! read more

I can't say enough good things about Capuano, my family and I had just come from a funeral, there were 15 of us, we had a private room which was great, the food and the service was excellent, it was just one waitress that took care of us and she was terrific, the food was amazing, so many different selections were chosen and everyone enjoyed what they selected, everything so fresh and the taste amazing, I wish I had gotten the waitress name 1-4-24 , about 12 o'clock, I just want to say thank you for your excellent service, and a pleasing personality . read more

I have never had a bad thing at this place. Pizza is thin and crisp and dinners are always on point. The lobster ravioli is one of my favorites in a pink sauce with shrimp on top, delicious!! I alway ask for extra sauce lol. I could literally drink it. Every veal dish I've had has been excellent!! I know there's a lot of Italian restaurants around. This one , I think , is underrated. The food is great. The selections are fantastic. They don't hesitate to make your dish your way. Prices are reasonable and service is quick for take out! Sometimes communication for take out is difficult as the person answering the phone may not speak English as a first language. But that never stopped me from ordering anything from pizza,top wings to a full Italian meal! If you get the take out menu know that there's a price difference between the same order for lunch versus dinner. read more

Best Italian in Flemington! Eat in for the best, freshest experience, but the takeout is good too.

I enjoyed Chicken Fico here for lunch today. It was excellent as was the salad and bread served first. The dish was made with figs, mushrooms and cognac cream sauce. My friends were equally pleased with their selections. It is BYOB so we had the wine we wanted. The desserts, including a light, fresh and lemony Limoncello Cake, were very good and Walter, our server, carefully made delicious decaf cappuccinos. Went to Capuano's early on a Saturday night for the second time. There was only one other couple seated in the dining room when we arrived but a large boisterous party arrived soon after. The first time we were there two fairly large, noisy parties were also dining. This is a pizza restaurant after all so the atmosphere is very relaxed and not really a place for a quiet dinner. Throughout our dinner there were quite a few vacant tables but service seemed rushed as though they were trying to speed us through. My wife had veal Franchise which she found a bit over cooked and way too lemony. She very much liked the broccoli which was served as an accompaniment. I had potato gnocchi which was served with a somewhat bitter marinara sauce; nothing special. Portion sizes were good. We also ordered garlic bread for the table which proved to be disappointing. It appeared to be a soft type roll sprinkled with garlic powder and topped with a thick layer of mozzarella cheese. As a whole the food was nothing special or anything we'd look forward to having again. Maybe we were expecting too much of this place-- it is a pizza restaurant, the portions were generous, and the prices were reasonable. Maybe next time we are just looking for a pizza we will try Capusno's again. read more

Ordered a plain pizza, chicken Marsala and 2 orders of pasta fagioli on 08Nov. Everything was a disappointment. Chicken Marsala was grey and swimming in watery sauce. Linguine came on the side with red sauce instead of with the meal. The pasta fagioli was flavorless and mostly beans. They even threw in a chunk of rock hard stale bread. Threw everything in the trash except the pizza. Will not be ordering from this establishment again. Cannot fathom how they have such good reviews with such horrible food. Not a fan of this place at all. Employee manning the to go area did not greet us or welcome us at all. We had to speak to him and he only nodded. We sat ourselves and were immediately greeted by our server who did a decent job throughout. The food was below average. I got a Buffalo chicken wrap that was not edible. It was soggy, chicken was not good and it fell apart when I tried to pick it up. I tried to eat with a knife and fork and gave up after the mess it made. My husband got sausage, pepper and onion sandwich and he finished his. Said it was just okay. He got a clams appetizer which was very small serving for an appetizer and tasted okay. Waiter asked how my food was when he saw I did not eat it. I told him why and he said "I'm sorry" and gave us our bill. I never understand that. Why ask if you're not going to do anything about it? This is the third time our annual holiday work dinner has been held at Capuano's in Flemington. I gotta say, it is a great spot for our group. Capuano's has a private dining room in the back of the restaurant which is perfect for our group of 20 or so people. I always feel like it can be quite a difficult task to find a restaurant to host such a large group... but Capuano's always does a lovely job of wining and dining us. Kudos to them because we can definitely be a loud bunch at times! I'd say my experience here has improved over the years. One thing that was especially noteworthy during my most recent visit was the service. The servers were friendly and very attentive. It can sometimes get chaotic with a large group but the staff did a great job with staying on top of things and constantly checking up on us. As for the food, I tried the gnocchi with marinara sauce. It was delicious! I loved that there was plenty of cheese in it. The portion size was huge... I had enough leftovers for the next day. For dessert, I tried the New York cheesecake and Kentucky Derby pie. The cheesecake was definitely a winner in my book! It literally melts in your mouth. The pie was good, but a bit too sweet for my liking. Everyone else at the table seemed to enjoy it though! Also take note that Capuano's is BYOB. This is a place I've been going to for years with my family & I was so glad when my boss said we were doing our holiday party here!! We got the back private room & there were about 18 of us and we had plenty of room. This place is good for a date night but also accommodates large parties (we had my sisters bridal shower here & everyone couldn't stop raving about it!). The service is excellent & I have never had a bad meal here. I've had anything from the veal alla jasmine to penne vodka with shrimp to seafood ninfea & it's truly hard to pick which is the best. Not to mention the bread they give you with the olive oil is to die for!! We couldn't stop eating it & ordering extra. I would recommend this restaurant for any occasion with any amount of people. I had eaten here a few times in doors and it was always good. But I ordered take out the other day and I have to say it was extraordinary!! I am VERY PICKY about my Eggplant Parmesan - and this was something to write about! It was delivered 15 minutes earlier than estimated. The eggplant was cut THIN and fried to a perfect crisp- Not soggy or thick. They served a very fresh salad on the side, and pasta with the correct amount of sauce! Went to Capuano's in Flemington for the first time tonight. Not impressed. First off, my friend ordered mussels with marinara sauce. Muscles were slightly fishy and did not come with enough sauce. I ordered a Caesar salad, which was lack luster, too little dressing, no garlicky flavor and no Parmesan cheese. Wait it went downhill from there...my friend ordered angel hair pasta with garlic and olive oil. The pasta was so al dente that it wouldn't absorb the little olive oil that came with the dish. We had to ask for more sauce. AND the garlic was just about burnt. I never ate cannelloni before so I thought I'd try it. The sauce was excellent but the chicken stuffing was dry and lacking the ricotta and basil as described. The bread and oil placed on the table were wonderful and were the highlight of our dinner. We will not go back for a second chance. There are too many other good Italian restaurants in the area to give Capuano's a second chance. read more

I went here with a pretty large party (probably close to 20 people) on a Saturday night and the staff handled our crowd pretty well. They definitely worked together to get us in and out in under 4 hours. One server took our order, someone else came around to fill up our waters, at one point the manager opened our wine (BYOB), and we all got served around the same time, which is impressive. All that said, the service gets an A+. As for the food, I can only speak to what I ordered and tried, but overall, everyone seemed to be happy with their choices. I was really hoping for osso bucco, but they didn't have it on the menu so I opted for the chicken parm. The portion was definitely generous, and the same goes for everyone else. As for my chicken parm, the breading was slightly burned on one of the two breasts. Also, I wish they hadn't stacked one breast on top of the other, because the only thing separating the top breast from the bottom breast was sauce. No cheese for the bottom breast. Bummer. At least the top breast was delicious. As for the side of linguine, it didn't have nearly enough sauce and the bottom of the bowl had a good amount of water in it, which tells me either the sauce is too watery or they didn't sufficiently drain the pasta. The appetizer sweet and sour calamari was good, but I hate when places put the sauce ON the calamari rather than on the side. All this does is make the breading soggy. The pasta fagioli soup was tasty and the complimentary bread with olive oil and herbs was fresh. The lemon rind served on the side of my double espresso, without having to ask for it, was nice. read more

Great food and great staff. I've never had less than a great meal here. The front is a traditional Jersey pizza shop but the dining room is a distinguished Italian restaurant. Their tomato sauce is amazing. read more
