Back again after brief hiatus. As former frequent diners of BFG, Nova is a natural evolution of everything Stacy and Kelly do right. I enjoyed the classic Baja Mahi Tacos, my son, the Barbacoa Wet Burrito; wonderful! Attentive service from Tom and a Key Lime pie to go made this visit as good as any other. Happy Birthday to me!

***3 1/2 stars*** It's been years since I've been over here for a meal, so this was the first time I've been by under the rebranded Nova. I really liked Blue Fish and its seafood-centric menu; the menu still has a number of seafood items, but most of the edgier ones have been sacrificed in place of more Asian/Tex Mex cuisine. It's definitely not bad, but I thought it was a cut below the original Blue Fish and my takeaway was that they kind of messed with a good thing. I came by here this past Saturday afternoon (3:30ish) with my OG chums. This little spot in Flemington is pretty cute, even in the dead of winter - there's a lot of edgy artisan-focused shops and a really nice coffee shop next door. The interior of Nova is...hard to describe. I'm honestly not trying to be offensive; it's technically nice, but just devoid of personality. An acquaintance of mine bought a 19th century house and then took out everything interesting and modernized it - it was reminiscent of that. There's just not a lot of character to it, which is surprising if you've been in any of the other nearby businesses, because they really hammer home the historic origins of this building as a ye olde factory. Feels like a real missed opportunity for a more unique dining experience. I was hoping to hear some edgy specials involving some of the less-mainstream fish, but the one entree in that vein was centered on cod, which I'm pretty ambivalent about. As a result, I opted for the ala carte section of the menu and selected the grilled salmon with a side of mashed potatoes and wasabi aioli. Not bad; a solid helping of everything, with a well-seasoned piece of salmon. Really the only mild issue was the presentation value; as you can see in the attached picture, it's pretty barebones and could have used a garnish or something. But that's just a nitpick and arguably not even an issue. The service was very good. Our waiter visited regularly and was particularly attentive about refilling the drinks. This was a quick meal, and that's a tribute to the turnaround time from ordering to receipt of the food. This wasn't a negative experience by any means, but by very publicly declaring its affiliation/ties with the prior Blue Fish brand, to me it was just pointing out the selling points of the previous restaurant that aren't here anymore.

Walked over with the bride and had a perfect night out on the patio! Crab Rangoon Dip to start which was filled with chunks of crab meat and delicious, the homemade nacho chips were the perfect vessel to transport this delicacy to my pie hole and yes, I used my fingers to wipe the bowl clean . We then we split a Kimchi Bowl with Mahi Mahi, also delicious. Sorry I didn't take a picture of either dish but we were starving. Shout out to another local gem, Lone Eagle Brewery for the perfect beverage to wash it all down (picture included ).

Blue Fish Grill is reopening as Nova. Decor refreshed. Still great friendly staff, and amazing food. Still a BYOB .

A kimchi, jasmine rice, arugula and avocado special with choice of protein (I chose grilled salmon).

We have now been here twice since Blue Fish Grill updated their dine-in restaurant to Nova. We returned after a while since they brought back some of their popular favorites! It's familiar with a few new additions. The interior has definitely been upgraded, and the service is as good as remember it before. We're satisfied and look forward to returning soon again!

So, my choices are fast corporate food along Rt. 202, or dive onto Mainstreet and what's cooking . I drove down 94 degrees Main Street, past the RR tracks, past the Hotel construction (looks impressive) to find JS Shaker Cafe. I call it Shaker. The dining area is large and filled with tables & chairs. I like sitting at the counter. So I did. The person that approach seemed like the owner. She was very nice and friendly. I like the layout as a real Americana cafe. I saw egg salad sandwich platter and couldn't keep reading. Diet Coke with ice and a lemon twist. Nice touch. The egg salad sandwich with bacon was amazing. Perfect. I snapped a picture. The bread balanced a healthy serving of the salad, topped with lettuce & tomato. I'm planning on returning and, creature of habit that I am, will be repeating that sandwich. The fries (which I'm not supposed to have) were hot and crisp. Splash some hunts catsup on those bad boys and you're ready to have a summer egg salad romantic encounter.

I went here on a Saturday morning, and we were sat immediately. Since I can never decide on sweet or savory for breakfast, I opted for both! I ordered the JS Omelet, which has pork roll, peppers and onions, and American cheese. I also split the Elvis French Toast with my friend, which had peanut butter, banana, and bacon. It was divine! The bread was so thick, and the bacon was a great addition to the creamy peanut butter and banana. The homefries and toast that came with the omelet were also so good as was the coffee. Overall, it's a great place for breakfast. You can find both classics and specialty items. Highly recommend!

Or a buffet that no longer buffets. But pizza is a big part of their menu and a lot of people order it. I can tell you, from sight alone... I wouldn't call it pizza. It's cheese, toppings, and an extremely flat crust that I can only imagine crunches to smithereens. So I went very much with not pizza. Fortunately, the menu goes many other directions. I got a hot chicken sandwich with Cajun fries, basically regular fries with a little seasoning sprinkled on (not baked in). Took a little while to get to us, but once it did, I was impressed with the spice level. This is not for the faint of tongue. The fries were perfectly cooked, but I would say just get plain fries if that's your vibe. I could have upgraded to onion rings or similar, wasn't feeling quite hungry enough for that venture. Verdict: I don't know. It's not a diner. It's not a pizzeria. Definitely seemed kid-friendly. I think my date liked this place more than I did. So again, I'll go with the balance and stick 4 stars on the wall. Could return, not sure what else in Flemington might attract (seems fairly restaurant-barren).

It's here? An old house, ample parking, a fork and knife welcoming you at the steps. For dinner we sat upstairs. Rooming for an old building. Quiet enough to have a conversation. Great service from start to finish. The seafood chowder that was on special was a great place to start. My main course of the Cherry Coke Short Ribs - Amanera cherry demi, lemon & parsley gremolata was wonderful. The menu was intriguing as well as a four-course menu offered on a couple weekday nights. I believe that it changes weekly and the regular menu changes seasonally. The service was friendly, and the food came out in a timely manner. They start the meal with a loaf of bread. There was a side of butter and an apple balsamic vinegar. The bread came out warm and was tasty. The vinegar was sweet and had a thick texture that I enjoyed. For a starter, I had the Griggstown farm deviled eggs ($16.50) and tuna two ways ($18.50). The eggs had dry aged bacon, bell pepper chutney shallot, and a chive whipped yolk. There were four large egg halves present, and they were filled appropriately. The chutney was a nice touch and gave me sweet banana pepper vibes. The bacon added a crunch factor to it. The tuna was seared and in a tartare preparation. It came with a wasabi cream, rooster sauce, and crispy wontons. The seared tuna was cooked perfectly and wonderful. The tartare was a little too fine. I would have liked little pieces instead. The flavor was all there though. I also tried the roasted squash soup and port wine poached pear salad from the four-course menu that was being offered the night I attended. The soup was good with a nice, thick texture while the salad was not bad but did not like the frisee choice. The pear had a very clear cinnamon flavoring too. For an entrée, I had the apple cider brined pork chop ($36.75). This came with Applewood smoked bacon, onion, and an aged cheddar crust. Again, this was cooked to perfection. It was a large piece of meat on the bone with a good portion of mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. Both potatoes and vegetables were nicely done. This was smokier than I thought it would be, but it was extremely flavorful and tender. The apple cider brine really showed up. The cheddar crust was slightly overpowered by the smoky bacon, but not a huge deal. I also tried the day boat scallops from the course menu. Once again, perfectly cooked and the risotto that was part of the dish was lighter than I thought. It was a pumpkin risotto that was good. For dessert, the caramel apple bread pudding was shared as part of the four-course menu. This consisted of Bonacorsi Farm apples, cinnamon crumble topping, and a vanilla gelato. This seemed to be at the pass for a bit before it was served given the ice cream was mostly melted and the bread pudding was not that hot, but it was fine given the flavor of everything. The caramel really came through here. Will I go back? Definitely.
