We were visiting Savannah and needed to stop at the mall. We saw this Panda Express located adjacent to the mall. We needed a quick lunch so we stopped this. This place looked super new and sleek. We both ordered the orange chicken and the apple pie roll for dessert. The apple pie roll was a nice touch- not too sweet and the perfect size. The food was fresh, the staff were pleasant, the bathrooms were immaculate, and we were able to get in and out quickly for a Saturday lunch. Panda Express has a timeless flavor that takes them above most fast food chains in my opinion. Of course their Orange chicken is the signature entrée of Panda Express, but the Beijing Beef is my favorite (especially when it's fresh off the wok)!! The walnut shrimp, honey chicken breast, beef and broccoli I mean I won't ramble on but anything fresh taste amazing here. My only issue is that their lo Mein is never cooked long enough or maybe it needs revamping because it's dry all across America. At this location I had the BEST crab ragoons I've ever had, they were fresh and FILLED with cream cheese. I ate there for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It was quite good, so I went back yesterday. It was also very good. I had rice and teriyaki chicken. The rice was properly cooked and the chicken was properly seasoned and while cooked well-done, it was NOT dried out and tough. The opposite: it was moist and tender. All in all, this is probably the best fast food Chinese restaurant I have ever been to. The place was clean. The food was well presented. The staff was friendly and thoroughly competent. Broccoli beef, orange chicken and teriyaki chicken with noodles. Pretty simple. I had less than 1 ounce of beef in the entire plate. AND the broccoli was a soggy brown mess. That photo is ALL the beef I got. Now I understand sometimes you get more broccoli than others but what is this! I'm not paying $3.50 for an extra meat to get 18 cents worth of soggy broccoli and not enough beef to flavor a stew. Chipotle might be skimping on portions nationwide but this is another level of ridiculous. Won't be going back that's for sure. Please note that the one star is for food only. The place was spotless and the service was friendly, even cheerful! But the food... Egg rolls are not the worst we've ever had, but that's not saying much. They have a lot of pork, but there's nothing special about them, and the sweet and sour sauce has an odd flavor we can't identify. Orange Chicken has a very thick, hard batter and no real orange flavor. Black Pepper Beef likewise has no black pepper flavor, and includes harsh onions and some green stems of something impossible to chew. Fried Rice is steamed, not fried, and has no flavor at all except for the cubes of old, woody carrot. Now, we don't know if the Panda Express chain has gotten bad everywhere, or just this location. Our first Panda Express, in Kalispell, MT, was excellent. There was one in the Carolinas that was very good, and one in Statesboro, GA as well. And none of the food here seemed dangerous, or unwholesome. It just wasn't very good. So we can't say that we'll never eat at a Panda Express again. I got take out from this restaurant today. If I had eaten in the restaurant, I would have demanded a full refund! The honey walnut shrimp batter wasn't fully cooked. The nuts were hard and inedible. The wok seared shrimp and steak had 2 pieces of steak and 3 shrimp in the serving. The noodles were dry, crispy and had no flavor. The eggroll tasted awful! Had a fantastic experience with the manager at this location. They apparently had a busy weekend and were running low on food. They did however have Teriyaki chicken, which is my fave. I can tell the food we ordered was old. Being that they are a fast food restaurant they have to have majority of there food ready to go so they cook it and sit under heat lamps. Next time i go i can ask them to prepare it on request. Overall the prices are fair. I've been wanting to try Panda for a while. I once went inside a different location in Charleston but never ate. I was a little skeptical about the idea. But I gave in a ordered a plate and honestly I don't know how people eat this and consider it Chinese food. It's far from that. The chow mein is so dry and undercooked that I actually had to recook it myself so i could eat it without feeling guilty for ordering. If you are looking for Chinese food don't go to Panda Express. This is like the McDonald's of Chinese food. The sad part is that it's the same price as Chinese food also. We drove up at noon, yesterday, almost no cars in parking lot. The staff was checking food for temp, not a bad thing. We got 3 kids meals (a good thing even for adults) we got mushroom chicken with fried rice, sweet fire chicken with chow mein and broccoli beef with chow mein and 2 orders of spring rolls. The proteins were good, however we were not given but a few pieces of meat..a couple more would have been good. I am allergic to dairy and asked if it was in the fried rice, was told no. I reacted strongly, so it must have been in it. Neither the rice or chow mein were cooked through. Almost raw rice and the pasta wasn't totally fine either. First time tasting Panda Express. Tried to order a bit of everything. Only having the food court Chinese food to compare to, it was quite different. Panda wasn't trenched in sauces and grease. I have had good experiences at this location before, but this is the THIRD time that I have been told that they have run out of my preferred entrée. Last two times I went through the drive thru. Tonight I placed an online order for honey walnut shrimp and beef broccoli with 1/2 rice and 1/2 chow mein at 7:20 p.m. and I received a message that it would be ready at 8:15. When my son arrived to pick up the food at the designated time, he was told that they were out of the entrees we ordered. I told him to cancel my order, but the girl behind the counter said if I cancel I could not get a refund until the manager arrived the next day.
