Belgian waffle

What a great find! We were meeting up with some friends and looking for a good breakfast spot near Long Beach. First off, these portions were huge. Everything was platted so nice and the flavors were great. So often I get scrambled eggs and they are wayyyy dry. These were perfect. I did the combo which came with my choice of plain/chocolate chip/blueberry pancakes. I went with blueberry. I also go the cheese egg toast. So not only did my plate come with eggs but it came with a delicious scrambled mix on toast. Yum! My wife had the fluffy omelet, our friends had the breakfast burrito, 2 eggs, and waffle. This spot is "Pancake" in the morning and then is an Indian restaurant for lunch/dinner. I want to come back to try that too!

We always seem to miss this place when they are open but finally we're able to get here early enough. Not super busy when we came in, only one party at a table. Waitress gave us our menus and container of water. I tried the Indian Sloppy Joe and it's SO GOOD. I'm a huge fan of lamb so it was a real treat. The fries were super crispy as well. My husband got the Biscuits and Grazy with Hashbrowns. He finished his plate so two thumbs up. We will be back again, and we definitely need to check out their lunch/dinner times for the Indian food.

Blueberry pancakes with fresh fruit. Delicious!

The best breakfast burrito in town!!! They're delicious, healthy, and a generous amount of food; I've been craving it after I tasted it the first time! Their blueberry pancake is moist and not too sweet, really love the fresh fruit. Really looking forward to bringing my friends and family here! Friendly service and ample parking! Spacious indoor space.

This was our second breakfast visit here, and we took advantage of their current all-you-can-eat promotion. The variety of cold and hot dishes was impressive, and the prices were very reasonable. Everything tasted great, and our server Neal was very attentive and friendly.

This place is legit!!! 5*++ A quiet and enjoyable breakfast spot! Pancake is the morning restaurant, breakfast concept vs the evening restaurant of Cali Chili. Same space, same owners. A fantastic experience from the moment we walked in, til we left with our bellies more than satisfied. Service was great the entire time. The menu has several beverage choices from juices to coffee to libations. The food menu was the perfect amount of options. Not overwhelming, yet nice variety. One of my breakfast go-to's is Avocado Toast. This was pretty freakin fantastic! Portion may look on the smaller size, but it's deceiving. The orange marmalade provided a unique twist...a slight sweetness among a rather savory dish. Perfectly soft bread piled with plenty of avocado. The sauce on the side really elevated it to the next level. Definitely one of my top 3 favorite Avocado Toasts! Other items ordered at our table included salmon benedict and savory crepes. Both were a hit as well. The Benedict was a bit on the smaller side. The crepes were a heavier dish, much more filling. Another amazing spot in LB!

Some mornings my brain cannot process, so I require a menu with pictures. This place understands the assignment. Bonus: you can also order takeout if you need alone time. If you're serious about weekend brunch, you know it requires research, strategy, and a strong dislike of waiting. I made a reservation on OpenTable for a Saturday at 9:45 because I refuse to stand around hungry. I was shocked to see the place was not buzzing, which immediately made me feel like I may have discovered a baby hidden gem. The menu is dangerously good. Savory options like breakfast burritos, breakfast burgers, eggs benedict, and toasts. Sweet options including waffles, pancakes, and blintzes. Add brunch cocktails, coffees, smoothies, fresh juices, and breakfast specials, and suddenly decision-making becomes impossible. So naturally, our table of three chose chaos and ordered a lot. Every single dish was delicious and looked exactly like the menu photos (whoever staged those pictures deserves a raise). The sausage and gravy? Elite. That breakfast burger? I would eat it for dinner, a late-night snack, or as a personality trait. And the hollandaise on the Benedict -- so good I briefly considered asking for a side cup and drinking it like soup. No regrets. Service was fantastic, the space is perfectly sized, and the vibes were just right. Do yourself a favor and come here before it turns into a two-hour wait with people pretending it was always their spot. One small request to owners: please add more pancake options--maybe a Swedish pancake--because I will absolutely be back and I'm already planning my next order.

Elegant bar back

A friend told me about this place on Viking Way (off Bellflower and Carson). It has been open as a restaurant and bar for about 3 years, under the name Cali Chili. A year ago, they decided to open for breakfast, under the name "Pancake". Looking for a breakfast spot this morning, I decided to check it out! The restaurant looks small from the outside, but it is actually surprisingly large. In addition to the inside seating, there are outdoor tables available. The decor is quite nice and elegantly designed. (See photos) It was not very busy on this Friday morning. The menu has a nice selection of interesting items, including pancakes and French toast. My companion and I chose the Smoked Salmon Benedict, which was beautifully crafted, with a bacon wrapped asparagus accompaniment. Coffee was a good, tasty brew Price point is very reasonable. $$ This is a very nice place, with quality food. I think they need to get the word out! Three comments- Dark tint on the front windows makes it look closed from the outside. Provide real half 'n half for coffee. This is a classy place, no "creamer". Waitress needs to be a bit more attentive to customers.

They say a diamond in the rough is that beautiful gem in an unassuming place. Pancake...Simply Breakfast as it's referred to for breakfast, shares the building with Cali Chili an Unauthentic Indian Cuisine restaurant, just might meet this title. For breakfast they offer very bright selections of items such as Benedict's, avocado toasts, omelette's, biscuits and gravy, and my choice of the cheesy egg toast, plus many more. Everything is very fresh and well prepared. As simple as it sounds, the cheesy egg toast was a fluffy scrambled egg with cheese, red onions, diced tomatoes on a well toasted baguette. My wife and I shared an order of the cheese blintz with strawberries and bananas accompanied with a well made blueberry compote. It seems that freshness is a focus in all the ingredients they use here. For lunch and dinner, the place is Cali Chili and they offer a variety of fusion cuisine from beef ribs with curry, Korean inspired ribs and many, many more options. Discovering the flavors they offer for lunch and dinner, it has left a curios longing to try the exquisite flavors they offer. Molly, our server was great. The restaurant was caught by surprise on how busy they were on this Valentines morning for breakfast, that it had Molly bouncing from table to table, but she handled it perfectly. I can't wait to try the other breakfast options, as well as the Cali Chili menu.

Finally made it to Pancake! The breakfast service at Cali Chilli and have been waiting for a chance to get up there for breakfast. Everything was scrumptious. Their take on biscuits and creamy gravy, plus a side, was rich without being heavy. Soft biscuit was a hit! The chicken was equally yummy in syrup and in the biscuit gravy. The waffle tasted like I imagined a true Belgian should. The Blintz, I love how fat these are. I was tempted to get the savory ones but opted for banana and strawberry instead. Sweetness and filling were just right. You could taste it all without a super heavy filling/sauce. Definitely will be going back.

A beautiful breakfast spread.

It was the beginning of the Father's Day weekend and hubby had the morning off, so we searched Yelp for the nearest breakfast spots. We chose to try Pancake, and so glad we did! M We entered the business and realized it was also a bar. A gorgeous little bar/restaurant. We were greeted immediately and seated. Water was served in a gorgeous little leader and menus were given. Hubby order coffee and I ordered one of the mock tails suggested by our very nice waitress. The way the menu is set up. It seems that everything is à la carte, but to our surprise, the items we set our hearts on came with additions. We thought we would go ahead with what we wanted to order and take the extras home for lunch. The food was super delicious, the hospitality was grand, and the establishment is adorable. Hubby and I plan on visiting for lunch and then dinner in the near future. .

Choco Chips Pancake

It took a second to find this place cause it doesn't look Iike your traditional breakfast joint considering it says "cali chili" in the front but that's because in the morning the place is "Pancake" and in the afternoon its "cali chili". The place it self was more like a bar vibe than a breakfast spot but it was cute nonetheless. Anyway on to the rest of the review... The waiters were friendly and left us alone to our meals. The food was delicious aside from the fact that the pancakes had an earthy taste to them. It wasn't bad but it wasn't exactly the best either. They looked way better than they tasted. They tasted healthy and idk if that's what I'm looking for in my pancakes lol The bacon on the other hand was crispy and delicious. But had to pay an extra $5 for them so if you're the type that wants eggs and bacon with their pancakes and don't want to pay extra, this place isn't for you. My sister and our boyfriends also enjoyed their meals so it's not like it was a bad place. I will say the water nasty. Tasted like straight faucet water.

I love a good pancake that's fluffy, a little crispy, and has a nice chew. Most of the time, you get really sad and flat pancakes at your local diner or chain. Maybe because they're made in large batches? Pancakes aren't hard to make well, but when they're made in large batches and they're often overmixed/overhandled, and you get what you get. Pancake, which is Cali Chili after 11am, has really solid breakfast fare. Their pancakes were what I was looking for and I was able to enjoy a laid-back breakfast in an empty dining room at 8am on a Monday morning. For $12, I thought it was a fair deal. If you see my picture - the pancakes were beautifully presented and I killed that dish. I wasn't looking for attentive service, but the server was friendly and helpful! This is a great option if you are like me and you're craving a pancake that's better than a chain. Support small business!

Belgian Waffles and Americano
Adam V.

My wife and I tried this place out for the first time today. We both had the Belgian waffles and it was amazing! The plating, quality and balance were all on point. I had an americano and she had fresh apple juice. Both were very delicious. Mara was our server and she did a great job! Very helpful and seemed happy to answer any questions thoroughly and with ease. The ambiance was fancy yet welcoming. Definitely coming here again!

The signage threw us off but this is the place!

One visit we waited over 40 minutes without being acknowledged, another time our order came out wrong, and another time the food arrived cold like it had been sitting for quite a while. Because of that, I honestly did not want to come back tonight. But I was craving a good steak, and after my husband suggested giving 908 another try, I reluctantly agreed. I noticed the filet mignon on the menu paired with broccolini and decided to go for it. From the moment we walked in, the experience felt completely different. The hostess was warm and welcoming and seated us immediately. A young man came over right away with waters and took our drink order, which already surprised us in the best way. Then Alex S came to our table, and he truly made the night exceptional. He was friendly, attentive, and incredibly helpful in making sure my order was exactly how I wanted it. I mentioned that I didn't want a large piece of butter melting over the steak, and he happily accommodated that request. He even checked on the exact ounce size of the filet for me, which I appreciated. We ordered the Brussels sprouts appetizer, and honestly, they were the best Brussels sprouts we've ever had. Perfectly cooked, not drowning in sauce, and absolutely packed with flavor. My 8 oz filet mignon was cooked perfectly medium rare, exactly as ordered. The broccolini was crisp, fresh, and not overly oily. Everything tasted thoughtful, balanced, and worth every dollar. Most importantly, Alex S delivered spectacular service from start to finish. We were genuinely shocked to learn this was his first night shift because he handled the dining room with professionalism, warmth, and confidence far beyond what we expected. Thank you, Alex S, for completely changing our impression of 908. Tonight's experience was excellent, and for the first time, we are actually excited to come back. Thanks again, Jed Dornoff

I hate watching the baristas on their cell phones texting whomever they're texting. I hate watching them huddled in the corner, not washing their hands. And I also hate the fact that the televisions are on and worse blocking the view. Is this a sports bar or is it a nice dining experience. I don't know. Maybe it's just me. Bristy, our server, thoroughly explained the details of certain dishes such as the Mac & Cheetos. She also checked in on our table throughout the meal and came around often to refill our water. As for the food itself, it was very delicious. My favorite dish was the artichokes. They had a somewhat smoky flavor and the outermost leaves were crunchy and a nice contrast to the soft inside of the artichokes. They were also served in a tangy sauce that complimented the vegetable well. My friend's favorite item was the macaroni and cheese. It was chewy and creamy, and the pasta, which Bristy informed us was made in-house, was what my friend thought elevated the dish because it was a nice texture. We additionally ordered the gumbo which was also tasty but not as yummy as the other two dishes that we ordered. It is not a spicy dish if one is concerned about spice level. As for the ambiance of the restaurant, we enjoyed how the atmosphere felt casual and almost like you were sitting in somebody's house (the wallpaper and interior design is pretty) while still maintaining an elegant aesthetic design. There is inside seating what looks like a converted house? There is outside seating at tables or at the bar. The menu was interesting which had a theme of shrimp; there was eggs Benedict with shrimp, but not an item to order a regular one without it? Sure maybe could have ordered and asked without shrimp but pay the same price? Pass. Ok when I called they mentioned they serve brunch until 3? 3:30 I can't remember. The server mentioned they serve the brunch all day? Either way when I got to ordering this month on the menu it highlighted the shrimp po boy. I tried to order and nope, out. How can you be out of the item highlighted as the special in the middle of the day? When the place is not packed? I tried to order the lobster roll and again, out. I was tempted to order their short rib poutine since in theory it sounded good, but at this point I tried something simple I would hope they have in the kitchen chicken and waffles. The plate came and it looks good. If you look at the picture at the bottom of the chicken you can see a dark something. As I lift my chicken I found a huge burnt piece of breading pictured next. On top of the chicken is green onion I think? Who eats that with chicken and waffles? If I am wrong, a garnish is totally unnecessary for this dish. The chicken was moist. There are spices in the flour breading I can see but hard to taste what it is. The waffle is a hard pass for me. The waffle was crispy which is good, but also thin and dry and I couldn't taste any sweetness until I put maple syrup on it. The syrup came out warm which was nice. It's clear watching the people at the bar this is a local hangout. The chicken and waffles were $19 which if I was in the bay I think it's about right, but I think a little high considering the level of food I got. Supposedly this place is packed specifically on Sundays. The server doesn't know why? I'm not interested to even try to come back for a second chance and just be told sold out of the menu.

Tell me to meet you somewhere and I'll be there. Simple as that and less stress for me. Anyways, that's how we ended up at this place. Trying to find happy hour with food in the area was somewhat a challenge. Either they were finishing up or it wasn't that interesting on the menu. Of course some places offered amazing drink deals but no food. We ended up here actually across the street still looking up for places but the rooftop patio was what caught our attention. The restaurant itself looked bare as there was no one inside. Still on the early side but noticing people going in and then heading up stairs. After a few debates on here and there, we gave up and found our way here. Checked in with the host, letting him know that we just wanted happy hour upstairs. It was about two flights of stairs which the place looked quite industrial with all the metal beams and stairs. Downstairs was beautiful but completely emptied. Everyone wanted to utilize the rooftop patio as it was beautiful out. We were greeted by someone which mentioned to us that any bar seating was available. There was a section towards the back that was pretty lively. I think it was booked for a group. Instead of the bar area, we asked to sit along the rooftop counter that looks out to the street and building across the street. Way better view and perfect way to spend the afternoon hours. Staff were all pretty sweet and very friendly. Whatever we needed they were they to help. Both the regular menu and happy hour menu were quite impressive. As we just wanted HH, it was given. They had drink special for 10.00 and small bites for 10.00 as well. Didn't hesitate and started off with some drinks. The red sangria with mixed fruits was a nice clean and refreshing treat. Tasteful without that aftertaste. And the Le Pistolet Fumant, a delectable tasty drink with mezcal with a hint of pineapple. And other well drink that was perfect for a nice afternoon. HH drink special was quite tasty to start off. Food wise, started off with an order of the Caesar salad, simple but delicious. Fresh crisp Romaine lettuce and slices of Parmesan and crouton bits. Nice crunch with each bite. The dressing, wow pretty tasty. And an order of the Mac and Cheese . Most places it's either a hit or a miss and let me say it was a HIT. Quite cheesy and full of flavors that a second order was had. A dish I do recommend for HH. We also had an order of the Brussels sprouts which was excellent. A nice glaze and crunchy with chunks of house cured pancetta. Nice big chunks I must say. Lastly the beef sliders with Wagyu beef patties. Honestly, this was the least favorite of the dishes we got. You would think it sounded great but it was quite tasteless and nothing major to report on. Served with brioche bun and shredded lettuce and tomatoes and a lemon aioli. I had high hope for it when I saw the group next to us order it but it was a little disappointing. Overall, the Mac and cheese, Caesar salad and Brussels sprouts were all hits. The sliders, disappointing. Other items on HH didn't look too ingesting for us but it was for other people. The rooftop lounge and bar area was the place to be when we were there. It picked up real fast after we got seated. Picnic style tables being occupied by large groups before HH ended. Just the rooftop alone was great and beautiful. It a place that's good for a drink and meal with friends. Downstairs was beautiful but seemed more of an intimate experience. Overall, it was a great choice for a meal during HH.

It was perfect for a before show meal. I got turkey pesto sandwich. I told the people I was with it tasty "healthy" lol but not in a bad way my fat self is just used to cheese and all that other stuff but it was still a good sandwich. My partner got American Burger which enjoyed very much. I tasted a piece and said mmm smoky. Oh how could I forget the delicious beef empanada. I ate it before I even took a picture! It was so good and that chimichurri sauce was so unique. I have never had a thick and creamy chimichurri and it was delicious. His bff got a fish plate which was enjoyed. Finally we each got lemonade. That homemade lavendar hisbiscus *chefs kiss* The customer service was top notch. Wish I would have gotten his name but he was awesome. He asked when we wanted our cookies and said he would bring them. When he did bring them they were warm and so so good. Soft and gooey with slightly crisper edges just delicious. Whenever we end up in LB again I would definitely return.

1st timers today, and will def not be our last visit…read more Shout-out to the Yelp reviews lead us to this Amazing Smash burger joint. Our order: -Onion rings (the right batter to sliced onion ratio & delicious seasoning); -the french fries- crispy and the right amount of salt seasoning *dipped into their Jalapeno ranch, and you will be left smiling!* -the Works: What a burger! I love Portabello mushrooms, caramelized onions, and Persian cucumbers, so when I read that on the menu, I knew I had to order this, and I am not disappointed! This hit the spot. The smash patty topped with my favorites made for a perfect burger filling party. -the Don Chendo burger- the salsa Don Chendo on a jalapeño-Cheddar bun - culinary innovation at its finest! For non-spicy eaters like myself, you can eat this. This is definitely tolerable spice with a delicious flavor that overrules any "heat". The buttery, softness of the bun with the cheddar and jalapenos melted into it compliment the flavors of the patty, red onions and Chendo sauce. Having a burger is a rare craving for us, and thankfully our taste buds led us here this time that we did, because we were left, not only satisfied, but can safely say that this is one of the fewest Exceptional burgers we have tried thus far. Burgers are huge too! You def get more bang for your buck here. Staff was very welcoming, friendly and attentive toward us. We truly appreciated the warm greeting and them making sure we felt comfortable with their product deliveries coming in/out of the restaurant while we ate. Not too big & not too small of a place. Ample seating booths make for a comfy social occasion. We highly recommend to All! & will return again!

Sideburns is a true hidden gem in Long Beach; conveniently located right next to The Stache Bar…read more I originally came for the Vegan Breakfast Burrito; and it absolutely delivered. Refried beans; crispy tots; vegan cheese; avocado; mushrooms -- hearty; filling; and layered properly. But what really makes this burrito stand out are the house-made sauces. The salsa has the perfect heat; and their vegan dipping sauce elevates the entire experience. You can taste the intention. Now let's talk about the burger. The vegan burger is not an afterthought here. It's juicy; well-seasoned; and balanced. The texture is on point; the toppings are fresh; and it holds its structure without falling apart. You can tell they care about execution. Between the house-made sauces; the fusion flavor profile; and the consistency across both items; Sideburns earns its spot. If you're in Long Beach and want vegan comfort food done right; this is absolutely worth pulling up to.
