Ordered the rotisserie chicken with garlic sauce and got it with yellow rice and tostones. (9 out of 10) Also tried the empanada sampler which came with four empanadas of my choosing and tried the Beef, shrimp, chicken, and birria. (8 out of 10) I mean this sincerely... everything was beyond flavorful. The rotisserie garlic chicken had to be my favorite bite of the night but each empanada included in the sampler was crispy, tender, and decadent; each one leaving its own individual mark. Seriously blown away and might even had to stop in to try the food at the restaurant next time. Can't wait to see order from here again!

Food: This place is quite bad. We ordered the tortilla soup and the vegan tofu chimichurri. The tortilla soup was inedible it was so salty. The tofu was grilled and entirely burnt on the bottom. I had to slice the entire bottom off. The chimichurri sauce was flavorful. The yellow rice side seemed like bagged instant rice. The maduros were good. Did not try the alcohol but they had a large selection including non alcoholic options. The place adds a 20% auto gratuity fee. Kind of absurd on a 2 person check. I am Latina so perhaps I have a higher expectation for Latin food but I'm perplexed at how this place could have such high ratings, perhaps it was just a bad night. I would never go back and would not recommend.

We didn't have a reservation, but we went the day after a snow storm so it was pretty quiet. At first we were the only customers, but they slowly filled up during our meal. I would describe the inside as 'rustic cute'. It feels very cozy with the exposed brick, wooden tables, and soft lighting. For food we each did the Prix Fixe which lets you choose an appetizer, entree, and dessert. For appetizers we got the Chileatole and the Anticuchos. For entrees I got the Grass-Fed Skirt Steak and my boyfriend got the Pato en Mole Poblano. For dessert we both got the Bread Pudding. I thought the Prix Fixe was a good deal for the quantity and quality of food. Everything was prepared fresh and tasted delicious. Favorite bites were the Chileatole soup and the Skirt Steak. Our server was super friendly and approachable. Overall it was a really good experience and I would definitely return the next time I'm visiting the area.

I'm not going to pretend that I am the best person to determine what an authentic Colombian experience is (never had the pleasure of visiting Colombia), but if this isn't it, I can't imagine what they're missing. The staff speaks to you in Spanish exclusively, which made me glad one of my boys is Honduran. The TVs all over the place are playing what appear to be Colombian music videos that were made in the 80s featuring old men and attractive young women. They've got buckets of Colombian beer and frosted mugs so cold that the beer turned to slush around the sides. They've got a platter called the Bandeja la Berraca that consists of rice, beans, steak, plantains, eggs, avocado salad, little corn cakes, blood sausage, other sausage (amazing), and a giant side of chicharron. Eat and drink to you're bursting, while adorable Colombian kids run around the place. And rejoice that you live in NYC, where these things can be had.

Let's break it down:…read moreDefinition: "Chuzo is a brochette or skewer of marinated, grilled meat with bold seasonings, classic sides, and the unmistakable flavor of Colombian street food." "Bar" well we all know what that means, "vamos, vamos, vamos!" Since my first visit last year, I was hungry for more deliciousness and decided to go with Yelpie friend, Sharon for brunch. Bar Chuzo has the restaurant and bar attachment which is where we dined. I happen to like the bar room for dining, it's charming and quieter for a Sunday brunch. Bar Chuzo offers really nice Brunch selections from ceviche, salchipapas, tuna, steak and apps from delicious fries, calamari, crab, plantain chips, croquettes and so much more. Here's what we ordered: Apps- Plantain chips( dinamita !) with a side of salsa verde. Yuca Croquettes with Yuca, Chihuahua cheese, and uchucuta sauce( green herb chile sauce with nuts) Dinamita number two! Two different brunch menus, Menu 1 offers apps, sides, entrees, cocktails and desserts. Menu 2: Bottomless Brunch for 90 minutes choice of Margaritas for $35 or Mimosas for $30. Mains: Crab cake Benedict consists of sunny side up egg, crab cake, potato cake, uchucuta hollandaise sauce, crostini and Chuzo salad. Sharon enjoyed it very much.Dinamita number three. Chicken Chuzo: Brasa marinated chicken skewers, Andes Ecuadorian corn, yuca croquettes. There are two skewers with three pieces of chicken on each, scrumptious, loved the taste of the chicken, the croquettes ( yuca again) nice accompaniment and the corn was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend! Dinamita number four. Cocktail: Mango peach sangria hit the spot! Service: Gabriella is a great, professional and accommodating server. Absolutely wonderful and knows her stuff! Dinamita number five. There are delicious desserts as well but too full. The portions are generous and this meal for me was lunch/dinner. The vibe here is chill with Latin music seeping into your veins. 'Mis felicitaciones al personal!' ( my compliments to the staff). The wait staff was equally charming and attentive and we were directed to the QR code for the menu immediately. It was late afternoon so we opened the Happy Hour menu and it was surprisingly comprehensive. There were cocktails and specialty drinks all discounted for happy hour and a surprisingly large happy hour food menu. The cocktails were excellent (be sure to order a Crystal if you enjoy gin, or an espresso martini which my wife said was excellent) and we ordered Guacamole and chips and oysters which were à la carte and very reasonably priced. My wife doesn't care for oysters so I just ordered a couple for myself. They were beautifully presented on a bed of ice with a fresh lemon, a fresh spicy green mixture instead of horse radish and a sweet but spicy hot sauce. They were wonderful. The guacamole came with home made chips that were thick and well done so they held up to the guac very well. The guac was delicious and a bit chunkier than other places but the texture was wonderful with the thicker chips. For an entree, we chose Chuzos, skewered and grilled chunks of meat (chicken for my wife and NY Strip Steak for me) marinated and grilled to perfection. Both entrees came with large kernel corn which I had never tried before and yuca croquettes, also my first time. The corn was delicious but the kernels were a bit more like beans rather than the corn kernels you might be used to. The yuca croquettes were delicious and probably indistinguishable from potato croquettes in case you are worried you may not enjoy yuca. We actually finished neither entree and the kitchen packed our leftovers carefully for today's lunch (there was PLENTY left over). There was a nice dessert menu but we'll save that for another time. I cannot say enough good things about Bar Chuzo. The staff was friendly and attentive but not hovering or rushing. The food and cocktails were excellently prepared, reasonably priced but not cheap and the dining rooms were beautifully decorated. I will DEFINITELY be back to Bar Chuzo and if you haven't been, I urge you to check them out. You will not be disappointed.

We found Kiosko 787 while searching nearby options. We tried calling three times, but the phone would ring, play a greeting, and disconnect. Despite that, we decided to give it a try and arrived around 2:30 pm. The exterior was colorful and inviting, reminiscent of Old San Juan. Inside was smaller than expected but vibrant and cozy. The restaurant was empty except for one hostess on her phone. When we asked to dine in (party of five), she immediately asked if we had a reservation and told us reservations had to be made online. She explained they do not answer the phone as it's only for online orders and business information. After waiting a few minutes, she was able to seat us. Three people in our group had never tried Puerto Rican food, so we were excited to introduce them. We ordered drinks and the Picadera Sampler, which was excellent -- flavorful fried chicken chunks and delicious fried cheese. We finished the entire platter. For entrées, two of us ordered the Chuleta Kan Kan to share, and the other three also shared one, adding a mofongo as an extra side. The menu describes it as a "mega thick cut pork chop" and shows a large cut including belly and rib, which is why we chose to share. When the dishes arrived, the pork chops were normal-sized, thin, and nothing like the description or photo. We jokingly renamed them "Chuleta Can't Can't." The server dropped off the plates without knives or checking in and remained distracted on her phone. When we asked about the size, we were told the butcher sends different cuts. We asked about adding extra meat, but were told we would need to purchase another full entrée as they could not sell us a portion of meat, even when we asked if carne frita/pork chunks or a pork chop would be an option. The pork was thin, overcooked, and dry. The rice and pigeon peas were bland and heavy on tomato paste or sauce flavor. The mofongo, however, was moist and delicious with a garlicky butter sauce. Shortly after, another staff member brought out an additional pork chop that they "found in the kitchen," which was appreciated but also very dry. Given we were the only table (aside from one later customer), more proactive service and a heads-up about portion sizes would have helped manage expectations and given us the chance to order differently. The restaurant was also extremely warm. When we mentioned the heat, the response was dismissive. We really wanted this to be a great introduction to Puerto Rican cuisine for our friends. Unfortunately, the service and misleading entrée presentation fell short. The Picadera Sampler and mofongo were the only highlights and the reason for the 2-star rating.

That set the tone of attentive service, which continued throughout an exceptional meal in Bath Beach. This area is busy, in a locals doing their thing kind of way. It's a real neighborhood, and La Chacra is a great reason to check it out. We initially had decided on ordering the Combo La Chacra, which consists of a whole rotisserie chicken, yellow rice with red beans, an avocado salad, an order of salchipapas, and an order of maduros. We added an extra half chicken, and thought "that's a wrap". However, there was an appetizer special of thinly sliced octopus prepared Peruvian style that needed to be ordered too. The service was excellent. Not overwhelming, but just right. Dishes were cleared, napkins replaced, straw wrappers taken away as soon as they hit the table. It's not something that I'm used to writing about, but needed to be said. And then, the food. It was outstanding. Compared to both the basic, and the high end Peruvian restaurants that I've been to throughout the city, La Chacra is far and away the best. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and felt intentional. Nothing was just thrown on a plate. As full as we were, and we were quite full, there was no way that we were leaving without trying something from the desert menu. Another wise choice, as both the flan and the tres leche cake were fantastic. To wrap this one up, this spot is a solid five stars. The prices are very reasonable and the food, service, and charming atmosphere will have us returning soon.
