Bark Barbecue - Brisket ! ( simply to die! )

While this isn't the best BBQ I've had (the best I've had were in Texas and Georgia!), this is…read morestill one of the better food spots in Dumbo - it's a touristy area and I've had tons of the overpriced restaurants, treats, and snacks in the area over the years as I took my friends and family. Overall, I'd say that Bark Barbecue is one of the better food spots in all of Dumbo, though still not mindblowing. I went several times at peak dinner service (30+ min wait) and the meat was soft, melt-in-your-mouth, flavorful, and incredible, but I went again around 6pm before peak dinner service (no line, yay!) and noticed the pulled pork was very dry and not as piping hot - definitely had been left out under the heat lamps for a while before I received my order. Pros and cons of the timing, I suppose! Love their BBQ sauce. Drenching the meat is my favorite part. Busy spot in Timeout Market but is always my personal must try if I MUST eat in Dumbo.

We went around 6pm and they were already out of carnitas and cornbread. The line was long and it…read moretook about 20 minutes, plus Time Out Market was super loud. Brisket was so tender, and I loved getting a piece with both fatty and lean parts. 7.5/10. I tried my friend's chopped chicharron & brisket sandwich, and the chicharron was sooo crispy without tasting greasy. 8/10. Tres Golpes was great when everything was eaten together. The pulled pork itself wasn't anything special, but the sandwich was nice and juicy and loved how the plantain made it sweet. 7/10. Mac & cheese was super cheesy and flavorful, but the texture was way too soft for me. There was even some unmelted cheese that you could mix in. 4/10.

There were five of us who dropped in to La Chacra for a late lunch on a chilly, but bright Saturday…read moreafternoon. We were greeted immediately by a friendly bartender, and quickly seated. That set the tone of attentive service, which continued throughout an exceptional meal in Bath Beach. This area is busy, in a locals doing their thing kind of way. It's a real neighborhood, and La Chacra is a great reason to check it out. We initially had decided on ordering the Combo La Chacra, which consists of a whole rotisserie chicken, yellow rice with red beans, an avocado salad, an order of salchipapas, and an order of maduros. We added an extra half chicken, and thought "that's a wrap". However, there was an appetizer special of thinly sliced octopus prepared Peruvian style that needed to be ordered too. The service was excellent. Not overwhelming, but just right. Dishes were cleared, napkins replaced, straw wrappers taken away as soon as they hit the table. It's not something that I'm used to writing about, but needed to be said. And then, the food. It was outstanding. Compared to both the basic, and the high end Peruvian restaurants that I've been to throughout the city, La Chacra is far and away the best. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and felt intentional. Nothing was just thrown on a plate. As full as we were, and we were quite full, there was no way that we were leaving without trying something from the desert menu. Another wise choice, as both the flan and the tres leche cake were fantastic. To wrap this one up, this spot is a solid five stars. The prices are very reasonable and the food, service, and charming atmosphere will have us returning soon.
