Went back on the latest trip to Bend. Appears it has changed owners in the last half of 2016. Other reviews seem to indicate some hiccups with new ownership. Our experience seems to be less drastic than other report. We found the food good as before. The crowds were diminished on the morning we went. The banana nit bread French toast was very good. Our dining companions' omelet was nicely done and sized; big enough to split. The same for our French toast breakfast with bacon and eggs. Coffee was still good and the ladies serving were efficient and cordial. Cups were filled quickly. We still find it good place to come back to when we visit our home. read more

I must present this "alternate reality" to the other reviews here, which are far too accepting of this restaurant's excessive food and service. First, we weren't even able to walk in the front door before a host came outside to greet us and take our reservation. We had to wait outside next to the heat lamps and fresh coffee, making small talk with the other diners waiting for a table. Our table was ready so quickly, we had to stop a conversation early. How rude! Once seated, the confusion began. There was a regular breakfast menu with omelets and other standards on it. There was also a separate menu with more breakfast specials. Finally, even more breakfast specials were listed on a whiteboard. As if it wasn't already too much information to choose from, our waitress recited the specials from the whiteboard, as if we couldn't read for ourselves. How insulting! When our food arrived, I asked for some Tapatillo hot sauce to go with my potatoes. The waitress brought it along with Cholula, Ketchup, and 3 types of Tobasco. As if picking from all the available breakfast options wasn't hard enough, now I was faced with more hot sauces than I could possibly use. How frustrating! The food was so hot it had to cool down before I could eat it. I tried to eat it all, but I was served too large a portion. Neither of us could finish our meal because we were so full and satisfied after only eating half of our plates. How wasteful of them to serve more food than one human could possibly eat. They should cut their portion sizes in half and feed the rest to the homeless. Not to mention that the styrofoam take-out boxes we had to use will kill the environment! All in all, there was way too many food choices, the staff was way too attentive, and the portions were way too big. This restaurant offers much more satisfaction and value than they need to. Such a great breakfast spot! Incredible service, really good food, family friendly! We saw a good number of people waiting outside of what looks like a funky motel, that I don't know about. I do now know the restaurant is really good! There is no inside waiting area, it's outside, with heaters, seats and free hot coffee! So don't be deterred by what might looks like a massive wait list. I'm so incredibly disappointed with Palmer's Cafe. I haven't been here in quite awhile and was excited to have a good old fashioned breakfast in Bend. Upon walking in I felt that the place was a little different...it wasn't busy like it normally is. The smell was so strong and made it difficult to even breathe. When the breakfast was delivered the potatoes had the flavor and smell of vinegar...but, they said vinegar wasn't used. Did I get the first batch after the grill was cleaned??? A cozy, hidden little place that shares a parking lot with a local motel. We visited around 11:15 on a Sunday, after attempting to go to Jake's (wait was so-so, wait for gold was too long). Less than a five minute wait! Great food. I got the shrimp omelette with hollandaise sauce, which was excellent and a tasty Bloody Mary to go with it. We also got another breakfast entree and chose a "side" of hot cakes. SAD DAY! Wow, I have not been so disappointed since the day after the election. I have been going to Palmer's café for many, many years, and it has ranked as by far the best breakfast in town all of that time. The epitome of a 5 star experience. Some people go to church on Sunday, we would go to palmers. Never mind the long wait, the aged interior, and the minuscule parking lot, this place was the best in all of Bend. The two sweet old folks that ran it- he in the kitchen, she out in front- were Bend legends. I'm sad to say that is no longer the case. My usual blueberry banana bread French toast platter arrived and I thought they had made a mistake. Gone was the skillet replaced by a simple plate. Gone was the thick, moist and juicy stack of pepper bacon that I am used to, see the picture below for what I got instead- dry as an old dog bone, thin, overcooked, and not a drop of pepper on it. I briefly argued with the server that it couldn't be the pepper bacon, but she checked with the person running the kitchen, and he said it was. They have always had the best bacon in town, and very high food quality in general for the price. I guess those two sweet old folks really were magic, and he clearly had a magic touch in the kitchen that the new cooks aren't even coming close to. I noticed some of the yelp reviews below mine have some truly horrid statements to make, something you never would've seen in the past. Well the prices are still the same, but food quality is far below what it once was. I sense that they are trying to squeeze more profit out of the operation (The completely bizarre pepper bacon, smaller portions, and a board announcing that they now serve cocktails and are hints at this effect) at the expense of their reputation and the length of the lines outside. My daughter would not even eat her bacon, something bizarrely rare. I should have taken a photo of my goto French toast as well, which I usually have trouble finishing because the slices are so large and thick. These were about 60% of the size of the original they used to serve- Of course the price was the same. I finished it in a flash, and was not left with that overstuffed feeling that I once raved about. So surreal to be sitting where I have greedily dropped thousands of dollars over the years, and feeling like I had entered the wrong door (which is funny, because the new owners actually moved the door!) I must have been to Palmers 100 times in my 27 years here. When people would come from out of town we would always take them for the best breakfast they had ever had. I would take my clients there to expose them to what old Bend was like. Those days are gone and this is a very depressing day for me to have to report it to the Yelp community at large. So now, Bend breakfast establishments, once all in line behind Palmers, have an opening. Who is going to step up and take the best breakfast crown in Bend? Had a late breakfast here just today! Haven't been here in years. Last time we came, parking was a challenge and the food wasn't memorable enough to warrant a second visit. Was told by some coworkers that Palmer's has some of the best chow in town and we should really give it another try. Why not? Arrived around 11am. Plenty of parking, but that's just because we hit it right. No change in the number of spots. In fact, I'm sure not much has changed here in years! This place is small. When it says "Café" it means café. Only a couple tables indoors and a few more outdoors. Think homey. Rustic. Comfortable. However, the 7 of us were seated right away and our server was quick to take drink orders....and boy where we impressed. Ice tea, Ice tea without lemon, Ice tea no ice, coffee, coffee with cream, water, water with lemon....got that? We took bets she didn't, but she did. Delivered everything spot on to the correct one who ordered it. And when she came back with our food, each was fixed just as requested: Hold the mushrooms on this one, add sausage on that one. No chicken on another. Coffees were replenished regularly....and it was good brew. Not too strong, not too weak and definitely not burned. I had way too many cups. The food was fantastic. A really, really good breakfast. I was most impressed with my potatoes. Fresh. They were perfect texture and....fresh. So used to frozen hash browns or frozen country potatoes being reheated that these fresh taters were a real delight. Everyone cleaned their plates and said, "Yes...this place was a hit. I'm only two weeks into Bend, and I'm on the hunt for a solid weekend brunch spot. The first time driving down Greenwood I missed the place, even though I was intently looking for a Palmer's sign. Watch for "Palmer's MOTEL and Cafe." The Cafe is in the back of the parking lot, at the end of a line of motel rooms. Patio seating would've been perfect today, but for some reason I didn't even think to take a seat outside. There is also a self-serve coffee station out there, presumably for when the place packs out. Breakfast specials were a variety of scramble and omelette options. Todd Lake Omelette- Hearty and filling, with the best, butteriest potatoes I've had in Bend yet. Coffee was legit, not muddy rocket fuel like many back in Portland prefer, but fresh, light, diner style coffee. The one thing I've loved the most about this town is how polite and courteous everyone has been so far- the employees at Palmer's were nothing but. And my coffee stayed full. (I didn't really look at the beverages, but I didn't see anyone drinking alcohol and there is no visible bar, so I'm assuming that Hair of the Dog isn't an option here.) I'm going to keep on with Breakfast Tour '14, but I'm definitely hitting up Palmer's again. read more

I have been going to the Palmer for almost 15 years now, and it never disappoints. Don't expect anything fancy, just good down home cooking in a very casual, but busy little cafe. They only serve breakfast and lunch, and they fill up fast, so time it right. Don't let the "ghetto looking" Palmer Motel scare you away, this is THE place to go for breakfast, just ask any local. Really tasty food, huge portions, affordable prices and friendly staff (the chef/owner even came out to greet some regulars). Tucked back from the main drag it's a little hard to find but worth it. Just had breakfast here this morning and was very impressed by the service, friendliness, and food! Like most people have mentioned, it's a little back from the street and connected to a older motel. The cafe is surprisingly large inside, though, and really cute and well organized. You're not crammed in with other people and the seating is comfortable. There's parking on site but I imagine it's crowded on summer weekends. The biscuits were fluffy and homemade, everything was tasty and not over seasoned, and the hash brown potatoes were the perfect combo of soft and crispy, and buttery. It's comfort food done just right. Lots of combos and smaller size options, too. Coffee is nice and light and always hot and refreshed quickly. I appreciated the service teamwork; they all help each other out. Servings are large! Took half home and anticipating a delicious snack this afternoon. read more

Awesome little hidden gem here, or maybe not so hidden. I think word is getting out! Tucked in the back corner of The Palmer Hotel & Café is the café. Slow down when trying to find this place because it would be easy to roll right by, and you won't want to miss it. This quaint little breakfast nook isn't anything classy, but it boasts some delicious and plentiful breakfast fare. I had an omelette that was perfectly done with mounds of fresh veggies and meat filling, which also came with a heaping side of delicious buttermilk pancakes. So much yum! The portions were very generous, and the quality even more so. The service was great! Regular coffee and water refills were a routine occurrence. Everyone was pleasant and smiling, always a good indication of a pleasant dining experience. There is indoor and outdoor seating that could accommodate groups of any size. The parking lot is shared with the hotel, so there should be plenty of parking unless they have an extremely busy morning, in which case there should be parking around the corner. The price points were modest for the quality of food and portion sizes. I will definitely be back on my next visit to Bend, OR. read more

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Went there again and it was even better. We were a party of 5 and everybody just loved their food. I gave it 5 stars before and it was even better this time around. Hot cakes and potatoes were some of the best I've ever had. Still hard to park and still feels like you stepped back in a time machine about half a century but in a good way. If you live in Bend or are just visiting you owe it to yourself to give this place a try for breakfast. They are only open from 7:00AM to 2:00 PM so get there early. read more

How is it that I've lived in Bend for over 4 yrs now and had never before tried Palmers??!! This little cafe is fantastic! Tucked away into a tiny motel parking lot on Greenwood, it's a hidden gem that I'm thrilled to have discovered. The service was friendly and attentive, food fabulous and great prices. They have an excellent outside seating area and our server Mirna, pretty much rocked it! She kept my coffee cup full without needing to ask, brought out my mongrel children's food as soon as it was ready to head off their meltdown and made sure that we had anything we could possibly need. The ham and cheese omelette, French toast and pancakes were all winners with my family, as were the perfectly seasoned and cooked homestyle potatoes. I look forward to another awesome family breakfast at Palmers again in the very near future. read more

I give this a five star which I don't do often. The place is small and seating is limited but what makes this a fiver for me is the great food and wonderful service. Ok I hate writing this review as this place is too good for every reason and I really don't want to share. But the people are so darn amazing they deserve every bit of success. Fantastic breakfast. Amazing locally sourced ingredients, portions are generous, even for my large lacrosse goalie and prices are a steal. Besides actually being edible, Palmer's food is off the charts. I've had the Eggs Benedict and the Country Fried Steak and both have been fantastic. My guys have had various omelettes as well that all garner applause at the end of the meal. My coffee is always full and the wait staff every time we've been there has been sweet older ladies that work the room to perfection. Palmer's is set back in the parking lot of a small motel, and the interior gives the vibe of a cozy locals hangout. When it's snowing outside and you're having your breakfast and coffee at Palmer's, there's no better spot. If you're in Bend or just passing through, Palmer's is a must-stop! read more

I don't understand the rave, gushing reviews I've heard about this place. While I've really enjoyed their scrambles and things from the griddle I have to warn about their breakfast burrito. No bueno. It arrived to the table looking good enough but once the tortilla was pierced I found the insides swimming in grease. Not very appetizing. The salsa that accompanied it was disappointing as well; somewhat flavorful but super mild. Don't even get me started on the guac. Sad. No flavor.
