We arrived shortly after noon and the place was pretty full, but we managed to snag a table near the back. Neither of us was especially hungry, so we opted to share a couple of dishes. We started with one of their specials, the Shrimp Donuts. My dining companion assumed they'd be actual donuts with shrimp flavors, but this is definitely not that. It's essentially shrimp pieces shaped into a deep-fried donut. And it's good, real good. It arrived to the table piping hot, and I took a big old bite right away. The flavors are right on point, and the whole thing is enhanced by the accompanying sweet sauce. It's a terrific appetizer (although awfully expensive at $12 for four of them). For our main, we went with the Khao Soi ("Soft and crispy egg noodles, golden curry, coconut milk, spring onion, red onion, crispy shallot, lime, pickled veg") and we got that Spicy. It's a really solid version of this iconic dish. It's maybe not up there with the best adaptations I've had, but it's quite good. The broth is super flavorful and rich, while the other components are right on point. The spice level was perfect, too. The service was top notch, as well, so I have no doubt we'll be returning to Thai Barn Na at some point.

The satay chicken is a pass, pad thai is kind of sweet, and the khao soi is just fine. I will say these are on the slightly cheaper side compared to spots in Toronto (khao soi was ~$20?) Verdict: I think this place is alright for Mississauga, but being on Dundas Street, you're close to Toronto and you might as well go to a better Thai spot downtown haha.

This time we ended up at Khao San Road, which was busy from the get go. We got there a couple minutes before opening at 5pm, and before you knew it, there was a line waiting behind us. Inside was quite spacious between tables, and they were playing throwback tracks. We ordered a mango salad to share, which was okay but not my favourite. It got really sour near the end but next time I would try the papaya salad instead. For my personal main, I got the Pad Thai with no spice. It was still very flavourful and the noodles were cooked perfectly. One thing I appreciate is that the portion size is huge!! For me, this could've easily been 2, if not 3 meals. The Thai iced tea was also really good but on the sweeter side. A good restaurant to try if you're coming from out of town, wouldn't be disappointed.

The food is undeniably rich, fresh, and authentically spicy. Standout dishes like the Bangkok-Style Pad Thai, rich Khao Soi, and crisp Squash Fritters deliver incredible depth of flavor every single time. Portion sizes are generous, and the spice levels are no joke--if you ask for Thai spicy, they mean it! Expect a bit of a wait during peak hours, but it remains one of the best Thai dining experiences in the city.

It's a fairly popular restaurant, so I recommend booking ahead, which you can do online. But I've also walked in and luckily waited less than 20 minutes. There's no dedicated parking, so you'll have to find paid street parking nearby. My favorite dish so far is the Gaeng Hunglay with oxtail. It's a sweet and sour garlic-ginger curry, and the oxtail is tender and flavorful. I especially love eating the curry with the jasmine rice. The rice with the curry sauce is one of my favorite parts of the dish. I just wish it came with more. I've also tried the Khao Soi with braised beef, which has fresh egg noodles in a rich coconut milk curry with crispy noodles on top. It was good and tasted pretty much as expected for a Khao Soi, but it didn't particularly stand out to me. The Chiang Mai Beef Noodle Soup is another good option, with braised beef and tapioca noodles in a peanut, tamarind and lime broth. The broth tasted great, but the braised beef wasn't completely tender both times I've tried it. The Thai Chicken Wings are okay for sharing and come with crispy shallots, lime leaves, chillies and a sweet tamarind sauce. For dessert, I've had both the Mango Sticky Rice and Thai Iced Tea Gelato. The mango sticky rice is sweet and creamy with fresh mango, while the gelato is a nice lighter option if you just want something small after the meal. I'd keep coming back. There are still more appetizers I want to try, but the Gaeng Hunglay is the one I'd order again every time.

The server was very polite, nice, and got all of our orders correct (including all the customizations). Ambiance was casual. The interior was a bit dark and modern, with dark blue and purple lights, a bar at the front, and a large screen playing a video of Thai street food being made in the streets of Bangkok. The first page of the menu contained a snippet on the chef / owner's life story, her journey from Thailand to Canada, and how she went from being a journalist in Thailand to a chef and restauranteur in Toronto. I always like reading success stories and learning about the people working behind the dishes we eat. 1) Stir-Fried Morning Glory - This was listed under "small dishes", but the portion size was shareable as a side vegetable dish. They were able to make it just stir-fried without the fermented bean paste and chilli. It was already flavourful without any of the sauces. 2) Pad Pak (stir-fried broccoli, cauliflower, snap peas, carrot, bell pepper) - We requested for the vegetables to be blanched plain, without the oyster sauce. It was perfect - vegetables were still crisp, not over-cooked at all. We chose shrimps as the protein to go with the vegetables. 3) Pla Piing (Thai-style grilled European sea bass marinated with aromatic herbs and spices) - This was delicious and grilled to perfection. We also asked for this dish to be made with sauce on the side, and found that we didn't need the sauce at all. The sea bass meat was soft and flavourful. 4) Crab Fried Rice with Omelette - We came here specifically for this dish, as I had seen photos of it online and it looked good. It tasted as good as it looked. The omelette was more of a very thin scrambled fried egg that wrapped on top of the mound of fried rice. There wasn't any crab in the fried rice, but they put actual chunks of crab on top of the rice and omelette. Both the rice and omelette (scrambled fried egg) tasted very rich and umami. 5) Talay Claypot Glass Noodles (glass noodles with mussels and shrimps, Chinese celery, cilantro roots, ginger, garlic) - I liked the chunks of Chinese celerey and ginger in this dish. I chose not to pour the seafood sauce into the claypot, so I could taste the true seafood taste without any sauce. There were big New Zealand mussels and a generous amount of shrimps in the dish. The drinks menu had a lot of creative Thai spins on cocktails and mocktails. Desserts selection included some of the most common Thai desserts and snacks such as mango coconut sticky rice, durian coconut sticky rice, khanom krok (steamed small Thai coconut pancakes - one of my favourite Thai street snacks), and khanom tuay (steamed coconut custard).
