Oh my goodness it was so incredible! It was somehow dense but moist and light all at the same time, with the most satisfying texture... and the flavors! Just the perfect amount of sweetness, and I'm almost certain it had some good pinches of sea salt and cinnamon in it as well. Bastion sits among some small businesses and has the feel of a cozy business in a house. My absolute favorite thing about Bastion was their fried chicken. It was crispy and delicious. Often times gluten free items lack a bit of substance when it comes to how it feels, but the nice meaty chicken pieces really helped offset that in the case of the chicken sandwich. It was fulfilling to eat and would do a great job filling up anyone who is hungry. My wife went with the waffles and they were great. They were presented beautifully with a gorgeous flower garnish. If you want a nice IG picture, well, here you go! To wash it all down I tried their mango smoothie. And this thing was smooooooof. You can tell the bagel is not a normal bagel, I think it was gluten free or something? That didn't bother me at all but just be aware of that. Also, the smoked salmon was not like typical lox, you can see in the picture that it's more flakey, more like cooked salmon with smoked flavor. I also got the muffin in the picture. It was a little dry/not fresh tasting, even after I asked them to heat it up. It definitely has a healthy/homemade taste, probably that it was made with some type of wheat or oat flour. I also got the oat chia pudding to go (not pictured) and it was good too, still on the pricey side but at least the portion isn't tiny. Overall, the ambiance is nice for a cute brunch and I like that they supposedly use clean ingredients (no seed oils and refined sugar). Because out of the four usual pods that are here, only SlackTide was open!!! Yippee!!! I finally get to try them too!!! Yippee Skippy!!! Here's my order: ~ Again, this was my first time trying this pod, so I went BIG. I ordered their best item, the $28 Captian's Platter. This consisted of two pieces of fish, in which lingcod was the "featured fish." Three pieces of fresh scallops. And three pieces of fresh shrimp. First of all, I was warned by the owner Brian that lingcod is a thinner fish. But being an avid angler, I was familiar with how big or long lingcod can get. I will admit the fish pieces were somewhat small, but I was warned. I had to get that deep-fried, forearm sized "British fish-n-chips in a newspaper" thought out of my head. The breading, however, was crispy good! The breading stayed on the fish as well. Another plus in my book! As for the scallops and shrimp, oh boy these were just as tasty, dipped in the cocktail sauce or tartar. Squeeze a lil' lemon, add a lil' salt, and mmm mmm!!! The good thing was, after eating that platter, I didn't have that greasy guilty feeling. Oh wait, there's more... ~ Who wants CHOWDAH?!?!?! MAAAAN, I've been up and down the Pacific coast and damn, SlackTide sells some good competition worthy chowder! Why? Because with each spoonful scoop, it had clam with every bite.
