From the moment I called to place my to-go order to the quick and peaceful pickup experience, everything was fantastic. This was my first time trying Cornerstone, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! I ordered the Lumberjack Burger with a side of fries, while my partner got the A-Rok Burger with a side of tater tots. The second they handed me the bag, it smelled absolutely incredible. We couldn't wait to dig in. The fries and tater tots were immaculate, perfectly crispy, well-seasoned, and full of flavor. As for the burgers... oh my goodness. They were juicy with the perfect amount of grease, had an amazing char-grilled flavor, and were topped with fresh lettuce and tomato that tied everything together perfectly. This is definitely going to be one of my go-to spots whenever I'm craving a really good burger. For around $40 for two meals, I honestly can't complain. It's hard to say which is worse: Coming to a college bar with a child or coming to a college bar with a cantankerous local wrinklebag who expects to be treated like a Hapsburg by every member of Washington County's service industry. At least the kids maintain silence every so often. The Cornerstone is one of those college-town institutions that Forest Grove is oddly short on. Maybe it's because Pacific is more of a commuter school than its contemporaries in Portland or down I-5. Maybe it's because beer, wisely, isn't the cornerstone (pun intended) of the collegiate experience that it was in the 20th Century. Maybe it's because Western Washington County is so overrun by wine retirees that even what passes as a "college town" out here is little more than a college surrounded by thousands of people waiting to tell a waitress their fries are soggy. I genuinely love the Cornerstone and while I can't put down a Lumberjack in a sitting like I used to, the Great Onishi or a Footloose Burger sans mayo (a mozzarella/garlic burger DOESN'T TAKE MAYONNAISE) regularly hits all the right notes. It's one of the few places that will still roast you garlic and brie, and at this stage, calling your steak fries "Freedom Fries" is just a good Bush Administration joke. But for as much of a "beer state" as Oregon claims to be, the decimation of available imports makes Cornerstone all the more valuable. Why do Prost and Stammstisch not have Aventinus regularly. Why does Portland now lack one place that pours Rodenback, Delirium Tremens or Rochefort regularly? Why is every Boddington's or Guinness now $8? I love that they've kept their selection of bottles, I love that they've kept the place dark and beery and I love walking in here on a rainy night and knowing just what I'm getting. I'm not a fan of people who bring children into college bars, but I get it: Everyone needs something to aspire to, and the apps menu is very kid-friendly. But to the grown adults who come in here and can't comport themselves, here are a few basic clues: 1. If you don't see a happy hour menu out, it isn't happy hour. 2. Your waitress isn't your sommelier... and it's beer. If you're having trouble parsing a hazy IPA from a West Coast IPA or a brown ale from a pale, take the phone out of your pocket and look it up. It's service, not hand holding. 3. If you think there's "so many other options" in "the Grove," have at them. But last I checked there was a karaoke place with a $3 happy hour of mainly AB products, one brewery that's open with any degree of frequency (where people form a line at the bar for the one bartender) and a bunch of townie bars with suboptimal beer selection and an over indexed number of both pool tables and recent WCSO parolees. The Cornerstone, its burgers and its beer list are all absolute gems and deserve far more love for enduring amid a changing city and student body. I'm glad that students, alums and a considerable number of locals seem to love it, but to the naysayers, an alternative: Feel free to help yourself to the beer of the night, a paint-by-numbers kit and East Coast lobster out of a van at the "better option" across campus. read more

The draft beer menu was on a board but she couldn't tell us anything about the menu and "if we wanted something else we needed to go look at the cooler" the worst service....we left so many options in the Grove dealing with poor service isn't necessary. read more

It was a nice meal with my folks. I had the Tomato basil mozzarella sandwich which definitely needed some kind of vinaigrette or acid to kind of tie the sandwich together. The soup of the day was chicken chili and it was delicious. I saw they have a Reuben on the menu so I definitely will be back to try that out. We go here every once in awhile and though it is more of a college eating spot being across the street from Pacific University, it is also a favorite of some of the locals. Cornerstone is one of those places I drive by all the time, but only rarely stop in. At times they can get pretty busy, especially on Friday nights. Wife N and I had it in mind to swing through at 6:45 on a Friday, and basically it would have been at least a half hour wait so we went elsewhere that night. That said, several weeks later we found ourselves hopping in at the same time on a Thursday and the place had several tables available. My life's dream (no, not really...) is to find the perfect Reuben, and lo and behold one appeared on their menu. So that's what I ordered, with a side of fries and additionally a side salad. Wife N. ordered a Swiss Dip with a side salad. Pint of Fish Tale Ale for me. Okay, couple things: the food here has always been really good, every time we've gone. They have a Brie burger that is amazing. The fries are always excellent. And, for a tiny little 10-table hole-in-the-wall in a tiny town bordering the Edge of Nowhere, they actually have a pretty insane selection of beer. They typically have a rotating selection of about 8 beers on tap, but they also tend to have hundreds of different import bottles as well. So this is actually a pretty good place to go if you like trying lots of different bottles from lots of different places. The Reuben was great. Excellent beef, Swiss cheese and crunchy sauerkraut on slices of marbled rye. It fit the bill for a mid-week edge-of-nowhere Reuben. The fries were, as usual, beautifully crisp on the outside and nice and mushy in the middle. Wife's Swiss Dip hit the spot. Flavorful and tender beef, nice swiss, and some pretty dang good Au Jus. Salads were typical mixed varietal mid and dark greens, dressings were okay (but you don't really go to a burger joint for the salads anyway, right?). Cornerstone remains a great place. We've eaten there several times a year for probably 10 years now and they're a nice little place to scoot in, have decent noms and beer, and head out. read more

A small place packed with a great experience (and a generous list of tastes for beer-lovers). I've been here several times since my roommate first introduced me. Soon after I moved in she tells me, "If you love wings, you HAVE to come with me to Cornerstone!" I had the wings, but I fell in love with the burgers and fries. They have a whole separate menu for their beer, of which I believe there is 100. It has a nice, cozy, small town feel, and the friendly, attentive, and patient wait staff enhance the place even more. This is a once a week destination for my wife and I. Great service, not too crowded, never smells from the grill. Very good burgers (try the firehouse), fries and tots (Cajun seasoning is tasty). Went touring with my wife for a possible relocation and found this unassuming little place tucked away in a small strip mall next to the college. Very relaxed, good people. My wife had the turkey and bacon sandwich with chips (lots of chips). She liked it, I had a bite and did too. I ordered a Ruben with a little trepidation. So many are greasy, too much fat in the meat, drowning in Thousand Island. I was blown away. Very lean meat, good sauerkraut, toasted marble rye, the right amount of dressing. Best I've had in a while. Fries were good too, nice and crisp, right amount of salt. Wife had a coke (and a free refill), I had a pint of Fort George Vortex. Beer well served at the right temperature and was fresh. Prices were a little under what you would expect to pay for worse food. Great place all around. read more

Cornerstone is hands down my family's favorite place to grab dinner out. DH and I love to run and grab a tasty pint ( their selection is awesome and they rotate taps with awesome NW brew frequently!). Being beer lovers, we enjoy chatting with the owner Jess and head chef Kenny - both extremely knowledgeable. The food is excellent here - we have our favorites on the menu but have yet to try anything we didnt enjoy. The daily specials are always superb and a treat. Serving sizes are generous - you can be sure you will be full when you leave here - typically with leftovers for us. The pricing is spot on....I can't think of anything I'd ask them to change. It is a small place, so sometimes there isnt a table available immediately, but that is part of what makes this place comfortable and homey. It is worth the wait and close to home!! This is NOT your typical pub grub....it is SOOO much better! Just talking about it makes me crave it. Excellent beer, food, prices, portions and staff. I mean, everything here is fine. The food is moderately priced ($9 for a burger and soda, $6.65 if you're a student after 1pm). The burger is fine, nothing exceptional. The patties are generic but the perfect size. The buns are lackluster and served cold, the fries bland, and the ketchup overly sweet (possibly Hunt's). Basically, nothing about the burger is good, but nothing is bad either. With cheaper and higher quality options around, I don't see a reason to go here. But hey, try everything once right? This place is either a hit or miss... You can't really go wrong when ordering a starving student. However, your serving size may vary. (There are way better burgers then this, however, if you are a college students this is ideal...$5 = Cheeseburger, fries and a drink...some of my other favorites; the firehouse and the surf burger) Some waitresses are friendly and others you feel like hate their job. I will start with my only complaint, hand pack your burgers. Now everything that was awesome. I got the Philly burger with Cajun tots and Mac salad and a Vortex IPA. I loved the Mac salad, definitely should make that a weekly special out just put it as a side. I would order then over the Cajun tots, and that's saying something. There are carrots in the Mac, just in case you don't like them. All in all, everything was good but the meat itself. I gave it a three only because of the patty itself. This place is definitely a "Cornerstone" of Forest Grove's small restaurant community. The food is hearty and good. Some past favorites have been the melted brie/garlic dish and the casear salad with grilled chicken. Beer choices are fine. They need to add more ciders now that those are getting more popular these days. Wine is not the thing to get here - they could stand to add some better choices in that area, too. My major complaint is that there is NO wi-fi available to customers. WHAT? What year is it? Tried to go here with coworkers to spend a lot of money eating and drinking in order to make working really late tolerable... but had to leave when we found out there was no wifi. Fail. read more

The absolutely ONLY reason that this does not get a fifth star is because it is so darn small!! The fam has had to sulk away more than once because little tummy's can't wait that long to eat, but if you do have the stamina to wait, then absolutely do - it's well worth it! Tons of tasty options for veg heads and carnivores alike. Between the five of us in the fam, we have tried a good portion of the menu and have never been disappointed. For a hole in the wall, this place outdoes itself. The current cook they have there is excellent. The only drawback is that sometimes there is not enough seating available. Expect to be full when you are done, though. And if you are brave enough, try the Great Onishi. This thing is what is called a 'heartattack on a bun'. Ham, bacon, egg, giant greasy burger.... mmmmmmm. I was challenged by my friends (with whom I have a reputation to uphold) and stepped up. We stayed at the Grand Lodge. And where as their rooms, staff and over all atmosphere is amazing every time, their food is obscenely overpriced. So we drove not far down the road to Cornerstone and had two delicious meals and a great cider for less than what it cost for two side salads and two drinks the Grand Lodge. We totally recommend this place and we will eat here again. I personally had the Irish Reuben with a house made soup, fantastic. My husband had the Lumberjack burger with a side salad and was thrilled with the portion size. read more

Not a bad place to check out in Forest Grove. I ordered a pesto chicken sandwich with homemade fries. The chicken breast was thinly sliced, but not dried out and actually quite good. They put a lot of pesto on the focaccia bread and it wasn't over powering like you might expect. The fries were outstanding and they are made right there in the kitchen. They also have burgers. The server was very nice and I got my food in about 15 minutes. The price, service and food are all good.! I'd go back. read more

Best burgers in town. For a small business in a small building this place get pretty busy. I have been impressed to find when it does get busy here that even the cooks trow a hand in and are a polite and helpful as the waitstaff. Beer on tap and bottled, there isn't a better selection anywhere within 20 miles. The food is outstanding and always fresh...who actually uses fresh garlic in a burger joint? It makes a difference.
