Food is good. Beer is yum. Service is great. Ambiance is quaint and unique. Grand Lodge is a cool place!

This cinema is a cute little place inside the Grand Lodge. This link is for the cinemas and the movies are definitely the right price. If you are a guest of the hotel then the fee is waived. Otherwise, I think it is about $3. There are more tables in the theater than there were the last time making it a nice place to order snacks and drinks and take them in with you. I had a soft drink which they carbonated on the spot. I wouldn't recommend this as it was over $3 and still flat. The movies are typically first run towards the end of their shelf life at the regular theaters. Usually, one for the family plays at 3pm and again at 6pm and then a more adult type fair PG and R ratings at 9pm. The theater is open to the public as well as hotel guests. Check it out. read more

McMenamins Pubs - Compass Room - Pubs Near Me - Forest Grove, Oregon

We stopped by here for breakfast because we pretty much knew what we were going to get qualitywise. As the chain of pubs has grown, I think its lost some of its beginning soul, but I guess that happens with any bigger company. Still, I do like to visit this location from time to time. They have some neat festivals during the year and we have see a movie or two in the past here as well. Haven't stayed at this location, so can't rate that. I would put the food quality at above average, but not spectacular. The artwork around the building is typical McMennamins and fun to look at. The concept is really cool in my opinion. While a bit out of the way, I'm sure we will be back over the summer when some neat activity is happening on the lawn. read more

I've stayed here, had a wedding here, drank here, & ate here. It want all the best but it was okay. Serves is very slow but its okay i guess. The rooms here are okay. Not the best either. And the night before my wedding the bar tender that was there gave me a hard time about my ID. "Really dude I'm 23 & getting married & you're going to give me crap because my ID had tape on it left over from keeping all my stuff together so i wouldn't loss it." Just plain stupid. But at least the wedding turned out good. Though the area that was suppose to be closed off for just my wedding had other people in it. I was not happy about that. My girlfriend and I ate here while staying at the Grand Lodge for the night. The service at McMenamins Pub is ALWAYS so-so. We got sat, and ordered our meals. The food was good, and we got them in to-go boxes so we could also eat it in our room... but it took a long time to get our orders taken, it took a long time for our food to come out, and it took a long time for us to get our checks. Only positive part was taking the food as far away from the actual restaurant as possible. read more

Ah, the Grand Lodge....I stayed here a few years ago when my niece got married....so I can give my opinion on what I thought of this place at the time. Well, I loved it....and so began my love fest with the McMenamin's chain o' cash-cows. Yeah, these guys have definitely found a niche in the Northwest, because the McMenamin legacy has expanded exponentially over the past decade or so! My family stayed at the Grand Lodge for a long wedding weekend in the tiny town of Forest Grove (which not many people have heard about, but I applied for college at Pacific University a long time ago and couldn't go b/c they were too expensive and I ended up at community college and my life took another fork in the road, but that's another story). Anyway, the Grand Lodge used to be a nursing home for old Masonics and there are these mosiac murals of crescent moons and wizardry (pre-harry potter, mind you) and weird masonic secret-society stuff....(jeez, can you imagine working on those mf-ing murals...the workers musta been cross-eyed by the end of the day!) Well, the home closed years ago and the building was deserted and dilapilated (cob-webbed and rat-infested?...just to add to the creep factor) before the Bros took over and worked their magic. They refurbished the rooms with antiques per usual and they installed their fabulous bars and restaurants. Afternoon tea is offered in the front parlor. In the summer, they host free concerts on the super-spacious lawn and the townsfolk could come out and sit a spell. I remember the room prices as being fair for what you got (breakfast included)...maybe the Super Six across the street was cheaper, but you can't put a price on the atmosphere! Supposedly there are a few resident ghosts on the second floor and I think one of my other nieces had a sighting! If you are planning a little trip along the Oregon coast, then make a reservation for the Grand Lodge....it is a lovely little diversion. read more

Beautiful grounds and cool building. The bars and restaurant are very nicely decorated and are pleasant to be in. Awful service, however. Slow service for no reason--my table of four were the only ones dining! They should hire a waitstaff that has some experience. read more

The Grand Lodge is a toss up for me. It's a beautiful setting, and truly an interesting hotel, but it's exactly the same as all the other McMenamins locations. There's no deviation or variance. I've gone out here for dinner a few times, and while it's always been nice, the portions seem small and they aren't always the tastiest. read more

Well i have to say i have been going to all the McMenamins for years, lets just say from a Chefs point of view that when you over do it and get to big you start cutting cost in the quality of the food and it shows, they were so good years ago and a good price for it too, now the food is half the quality and cost three times as much, sorry guys but you need to pick it up..I will say the shows they put on are great.... read more

Took a friend from out of town here for lunch as one example of just how cool the McManamins brothers are in converting old buildings like this place into bars, restaurants, movie theaters, hotels and spas. All of the above in one place. Any McMenamins with a Ruby is always good, and their fries are always good, too. Tons of yummy smelling products in the spa area, and it did look like there was plenty of fun to be had playing pool at night. read more
