Super cool food cart pod! We stop by on a blazing hot day to try a cocktail. What a fun concept we will come back for food.

Best Falafel EVER from Shawarma Express Grill and an Amber Ale from inside Dave's Station

I've been waiting for the right time to try out this new(ish) Food Cart spot in McMinnville. I pulled into the parking lot at lunch time on a weekend a while back and the place was crawling with unruly kids spilling out of the doorway and bouncing off the windows inside the building. Nope. I just kept driving. So, today was the day, I almost had the place to myself at lunchtime on a Tuesday. It was raining, so you will have to stand in the rain to order food from one of several food trucks, but there is plenty of sheltered seating outside with overhead heaters and an indoor seating area that is sparse but adequate. The renovation of this former old Shell gas station has been thoughtful and artistic - it's got all the charm of old fashioned handpainted signs and all the hospitality of your local neighborhood pub including some great old arcade games and a full bar with a friendly server. I was disappointed that the Indian food truck was closed because they would probably have the best vegetarian, non-fried options. All the other spots were open. I ordered a Falafel Gyro from Shawarma Express Grill and- NOT LYING, I'm a huge falafel fan and it was the best falafel I've ever had!

Food is okay but sitting out on a warm breezy day eating and drinking is the best part of this place. Try them.

It was so fun watching them turn this station into a food truck place with a bar available.

Service is sullen and indifferent - you may feel like you are bothering her when you order beer, but don't let that take away from your experience.

Unfortunately, the way we were treated made us feel anything but welcome. Our 3-year-old was playing with the toy bin they provide for kids inside, while we were mainly gathered outside. Like any toddler, he made a mess, but I was mindful of it and cleaned up after him when asked. About 15-20 minutes later, I noticed the entire toy bin had been removed. When I asked the staff member (manager?) why, her response was curt and dismissive--essentially saying she was tired of cleaning up after kids. She even said she "had kids too," but the tone felt more like scolding than understanding. I explained that we come to places like this because they advertise themselves as family-friendly. Instead of hospitality, we were made to feel like a burden, as though children weren't actually welcome. The worst part was overhearing her continue to talk about us to others while we were still there. That crossed the line from unprofessional to just plain rude. We ended up leaving and taking our business elsewhere. For parents constantly searching for places to enjoy a beer while their kids have space to play, I can confidently say Heater Allen is not it. If you don't want children there, don't advertise as kid-friendly--it's misleading and creates an experience that feels hostile for families.
