Super cool food cart pod! We stop by on a blazing hot day to try a cocktail. What a fun concept we will come back for food.

Best Falafel EVER from Shawarma Express Grill and an Amber Ale from inside Dave's Station

I've been waiting for the right time to try out this new(ish) Food Cart spot in McMinnville. I pulled into the parking lot at lunch time on a weekend a while back and the place was crawling with unruly kids spilling out of the doorway and bouncing off the windows inside the building. Nope. I just kept driving. So, today was the day, I almost had the place to myself at lunchtime on a Tuesday. It was raining, so you will have to stand in the rain to order food from one of several food trucks, but there is plenty of sheltered seating outside with overhead heaters and an indoor seating area that is sparse but adequate. The renovation of this former old Shell gas station has been thoughtful and artistic - it's got all the charm of old fashioned handpainted signs and all the hospitality of your local neighborhood pub including some great old arcade games and a full bar with a friendly server. I was disappointed that the Indian food truck was closed because they would probably have the best vegetarian, non-fried options. All the other spots were open. I ordered a Falafel Gyro from Shawarma Express Grill and- NOT LYING, I'm a huge falafel fan and it was the best falafel I've ever had!

Food is okay but sitting out on a warm breezy day eating and drinking is the best part of this place. Try them.

We got here a bit early on the weekday at 2:50p. They open at three so we waited until they opened. They had some great lunch specials. I had the turkey club with a salad. It was good. I'd never seen tomatoes on a club before but it was good. They had a variety of drinks but we stuck to tea and soda as it was a work day. This looks like a great place for cocktails. Now that I got the bad taste in my mouth from former friends I will definitely be back.

Even when I tried to pay the second round, she told the bartender not to accept my payment. haha Even if I had paid, I would still like this place and their cocktails. It is a nice atmosphere, not too loud, comfortable seating, warm whimsical decorations, friendly service, and clean bathrooms. They have a large list of cocktails, mocktails and other non-alcoholic beverages, as well as beer and wine. They can make all the traditional cocktails. A regular told me the manhattan is top notch, but the cherries aren't the best he's seen. Cherry seemed alright to me. They also have several house cocktails and a few specials to choose from. Between us 4, we tried several different cocktails. We even tried the house cocktail designed for the bitterest of liqueurs, Jeppson's Malört. All were deemed tasty by all! They offer several food items from a full kitchen, including appetizers, sandwiches, salads, breakfast, and dinner. They even have veggie burger, gluten free crackers, and gluten free (GF) fried chicken! ! ! Free parking on the street. No minors allowed, bummer...l'd like it better if kids were allowed, but it's so good it's gets the 5th star. If you choose to give a thumbs-up or not, I hope you found my review helpful!

We did not have a reservation but they were able to accommodate us at the bar (which is fine since my wife was born with the gift of gab and makes friends with everyone). The menu changes daily based on the availability of the fresh ingredients of the season and is written on a chalkboard. We opted for the salmon tartar which was amazing and the beef spare ribs. The salmon served with small crusty bread and the spare ribs were served with a Mole sauce. We stayed until closing and talked the night away.

Yesterday took us to McMinnville for the Wonderland Brew Fest... after the festival, we decided to do a progressive dinner. Stop at every interesting restaurant on / near 3rd Street and eat until we were satisfied... Thistle threw a big ole wrench in our plans, and we are DELIHTED they did! After a not so great first restaurant experience, we happened upon Thistle at the recommendation of a friend. We decided to stop in for an appetizer and a drink. We were immediately greeted by a lovely man named Patrick who was so friendly and accommodated us at a lovely table in the center dining room. Round #1 of drinks was ordered with the Gnocchi and Duck Liver Mousse. Good. LORDT. We were smitten at sip and bite #1. After the first round, we settled into having a second round before heading out... next thing you know, a Pork Confit hit our table. OUT OF THIS WORLD. The talent of this chef is beyond words. Our planned 45 minute stop turned into a whole evening. The drinks were absolutely out of this world. The food was ridiculously good. Truly, the absolute best restaurant in all of McMinnville. To the chef, John Thomas IV and the owner, Patrick, THANK YOU! You truly too an average Saturday evening into one of our favorite trips to McMinnville of all times. We raved and sang the praises of our experience to all our friends this morning at brunch. Our one evening alone will guarantee our return many many times in the future. If you're from McMinnville and haven't tried Thistle yet, do it! If you're visiting, stop searching for your dinner destination and call for your reservation now. Absolutely our best McMinnville dinner, ever!

The seafood was cooked well but a little underseasoned. The rice was very bland. I'd chalk it up to someone having a bad night, but this is the second time I ordered the paella and was disappointed. Sad to say, there are enough better restaurants in Mac that I don't think I'll rush back here on my next trip to the area.

The menu is almost completely seafood, save for a few "American" items and the option to have chicken instead of shrimp on a few dishes. My husband had the creamy shrimp pasta and asked them to make sure it was spicy. They definitely delivered. We shared a shrimp cocktail which came out more like a ceviche in texture, but it was still quite good. I had the tuna ceviche and it definitely satisfied the seafood itch. It was a bit basic, flavor wise, but there were plenty of sauces on the table to spice things up. The only negative for me personally is that I wish there were a way to make my own seafood mix for some of the grilled plates. Just about all the mixed grill plates included things I was allergic to. And while I probably could have asked for a mixed seafood plate without those items, it's always nice to see that option on the menu itself.

The atmosphere is definitely "loungy," but clean and warm. The lighting is low (perfect for hiding how much we eat) and the big tufted leather (faux, not sure, but very comfy) booths are great. Service is friendly and prompt, and if you are a regular you get an even friendlier greeting, like Norm from Cheers. We keep hoping someone will yell our name when we walk in, but so far, no luck. Lately, we opt for the bar countertop, which is harder to score than a winning lottery ticket on most nights at prime dinner time. This night, Noah was our server. He is always friendly and a genuinely nice person. Tonight, we heard about his vacation trip to see his grandmother in New Zealand--we were so engrossed we almost forgot to order our food! It amazes me how incredibly busy this bar restaurant is--full to the brim--and the staff (typically 2 servers/bartenders and 2 cooks) manage to stay friendly, tell stories, and never miss an order, check, or payout of a lottery ticket. Most nights when we go it's just Hailee working. How Hailee handles THE WHOLE BAR by herself is incredible to witness; we think she might be a magician. We love Noah, but Hailee is our favorite. The food is excellent; you can order anything on the menu and it will be good. We love the Grilled Cheese and Tomato Sandwich (sub soup, didn't know it was a $3 adder--my wallet had a mild heart attack, but it was worth it). The sandwich cost $10 and typically comes with a generous portion of fries or tots. The clam chowder was delicious, savory with lots of clams. The sandwich has a lot of gooey American cheese and the tomato slices are fresh and juicy; this meal is an incredible value at $10. We also love their club sandwich: turkey, bacon, tomato, lettuce, and cheese on toasted sourdough, $14, served with a generous portion of fries or tots. This lounge is for adults only (sorry, kids, no tots for you here) and a cash-only establishment (so hit the ATM first, unless you want to wash dishes). Blue Moon is a local favorite and is doing a wonderful job keeping the prices reasonable for a blue-collar community in a "bougie" neighborhood. If you're visiting McMinnville, stay away--this place is for locals only (kidding, not kidding). It's a five-star experience without the five-star prices.
