Great food and service yesterday at the Newbergundian Bistro. We had been at Stoller for our spring release, and wanted to find a new restaurant to try. We are glad it was the Newbergundian Bistro. We had to start with a Croissant. It was very flavorful, but it was bit soft, not the perfect crunch that we love. The fresh squeezed grapefruit juice made an excellent greyhound. The Bistro had my favorite...Escargot as a special. WOW. So good. We then shared the Potato Croquettes. The accompanying fondue was so good to dip the Croquettes into. We finished with a Ham and Brie Sandwich that was excellent, accompanied by crisp and hot french fries. My wife had the Grilled Five Cheese Sandwich with Mixed Greens. She loved it. This restaurant is deserving of its 4.6 star rating. Food is scrumptious. My son had the fish and chips. Halibut was flaky and light. Cole slaw was delicious. My wife had the halibut special. Served on a potato croquette with beets. The combination was delectable. I had the cioppino - tons of halibut, shrimp, mussels and shrimp is a rich tomato wine broth. Truly outstanding. Our waitress was very nice and made some great suggestions including the persimmon sorbet dessert. It was served with ginger beer and an apple turnover. Original and very refreshing after a nice meal. The decor has a French leitmotif and the kitchen is open so you can see the cooks at work. Nice atmosphere. Overall, a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend this nice French bistro. read more

The food quality remains the same delicious. It's getting better on price came down a little bit believe it or not. Seem to have turned over the entire staff to a previous from Generations on Sherwood. Guess they were hungry for work because they were all over the service. Chef is on his game. The food and the specials now seem to be worth the price and not starting high. A good place to eat for sure. It's a little tight but they work with the space they have. Stumbled on this place while traveling to McMinnville for work and was really glad I did. What amazing service! Our server made us feel right at home! We stopped in after a wine tasting fundraiser otw back to Portland and this little quaintly decorated with indoor and outdoor seating was the perfect spot for the 3 of us. My husband had the special which had rabbit, my friend had wild mushrooms over goat cheese on crusty bread and I went with the eggs Benedict which is always a go to for me when it is just past lunch and I hadn't had breakfast. As a result of a wrong turn, I ended up finding this little place. My dad had the traditional breakfast and I had the ham and Brie sandwich. The smell of fresh baked croissants greeted us at the door, along with a beautiful hostess. The dining room was cozy and inviting. The staff was attentive and charming. The owner/chef whipped up beautifully plated meals with no fuss. The fruits and vegetables were fresh and delicious. The coffee was strong. This was a really nice stop for brunch. We were welcomed warmly and seated promptly. There were indoor and outdoor seating options and stayed inside for this visit but outside looked comfortable too. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and the local area which was great. My ham and Brie sandwich was just what I was craving and was a good way to fortify for a day wine tasting. My spouse enjoyed the eggs Benedict although he did ask his be prepared without tomato because apparently that is just wrong in his world. They had no trouble with the modification. Fresh, perfectly prepared meals that can't be matched! The Chef is a great guy and his dishes are always consistently yummy! How many restaurants allow guests to watch their meals be prepared? Says a lot about a restaurant that you can set at the bar/chef prep area and actually see your dinner and thoughtfully and carefully prepared. The menu is short but sweetly delicious! A great find!! We stopped in for a lunch and were treated to a very cordial staff. The menu was filled with some great choices. We had the ham and Brie sandwich, and the turkey sandwich. Tried this place out recently and it was great. We showed up close to closing but they had no problem seating us. The inside is a cute French cafe vibe. This used to be a favorite stop when coming from PDX to pick up seafood at Nw Seafood. But this is the second mediocre meal and poor service in the last three months. We won't be back We each ordered sandwiches with salads. The sandwiches were nothing special. The cheeses on the grilled cheese weren't melted and the sauerkraut on the Rueben had soaked the bread into a soggy mess. The salad greens were wilted. This place was oozing with charm. I was pleasantly surprised as the way it been described to me was it was a dive, but I found it adorable. We dinned inside which had an open kitchen and exposed wood beans. What an amazing place! The food was so fresh and it was fun to sit inside where we were watching the going's on behind stage. I say stage because what was going on was like the best performance ever and we were just part of the scenery. We tried the Ham and Brie sandwich, the amazing Croc Monsieur salad. We topped it off with the crème brûlée which has those tiny strawberries you find in France that are an explosion of sweetness in your mouth. Our server, Sierra was on top of her game. Noel, one of the co-owners answered questions about the history of the place, and made us feel so welcome! I actually asked to see the menu again so I could start planning my next meal there. I watched a very quiet interaction where someone from a nearby table ordered a Cesar salad but didn't know the dressing has anchovy (really?) in it and the server was so kind and immediately responded and took the plate away and brought something else. Found myself in Newberg on this spectacular weekend in October and discovered this place on Yelp. Had a delightful early dinner outside on their patio. Enjoyed a nice glass of Bordeaux, a nice salad and opted for their special today: the Bouillabaisse. It was fabulous! Full of seafood. Full of flavor. A must place to go if you are in the area (or not). Customer service was fantastic. There were so many yummy options, but in the end, we got their soup of the day, crispy chicken sandwich, and the manila clams. The star of the show was manila clams bathe in a butter/wine sauce with lemon zest, leek, and ground meat served with some crispy garlic bread. It is absolutely delicious and perfect for a party of two or three. The crispy chicken was very crispy topped with homemade coleslaw. The only thing I wish it had was some spice. I am not one to eat spicy food, but I think a nice dry spice rub on the chicken would provide great depth to the flavor and complement the side better. Otherwise, I will definitely come here again and at the very least order another bowl of manila clams...or two. read more

A great place for lunch in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We had soup du jour for a starter--cream of mushroom and pork lentil. Neither were very good. Mushroom completely over-shadowed by spice and flavoring. Lentil was too clumpy to be considered soup. The lunch was redeemed by the Ruben sandwich and perfectly crisp French fries. We came here for brunch and it was delicious! All of it was fresh and tasty including the jam we got with our toast. The sausage was AMAZING! Really good flavor as were the potatoes! Plus the service was good, our waitress was a delight and the prices were reasonable. My only critique would be they are using fake cheese on things including when asked for it on eggs and then I saw they used it for the grilled cheese on someone else's plate. Delightful small bistro with excellent service. If the location and atmosphere were a little more charming, and the food just a little bit better, this would rate five stars for the area. Our meal was during brunch service on a weekend, so some of the items I was hoping to order based on prior reviews and photos weren't available during that meal service. However, we were very happy with what we did order: -- Roasted Beets -- Spinach Wrap -- Grilled Five Cheese The star of the show were the beets and I'd happily order them again. Beautifully composed and plated dish. The spinach wrap (vegetarian) was nice, but both the wrap and green salad (solely greens) were slightly overdressed for my taste. The Grilled Five Cheese was enjoyable, especially because of the tomato jam that accompanied the dish. I can't say enough about the attentiveness of the server, their knowledge of the menu, and overall good grace and humor. With the majority of the past year getting food to-go, it reminded me of the joy of dining out. The seating is cozy inside with some stools at the kitchen bar and about five other tables indoors. There were some delightful little touches like a row of Matchbox cars over the door. Along the side of the restaurant there are a few outside tables that are only partially covered by the eave of the building, so diners are exposed to both sun and rain unless conditions are just right. There is a also a larger dining tent behind the restaurant, but that was not in use during our visit. The location of the bistro isn't the best since it is close to the corner of a major intersection. It takes away from the ambiance when you are staring at the Walgreens across the street. And because the seating is so tight, when you are dining indoors, our table was pushed against a window and the table outside is also against the window so it feels a little claustrophobic. Overall, I just wished the restaurant was in a different location. But, the food and service were so good, that I'd happily return. read more

My sister-in-law gave me a gift certificate to the Newbergundian because she thought I would like it. And, she was right!! My wife and I stopped for happy hour. When we walked in it was warm and the smells were amazing (we had been hiking). We bellied up to the bar and that is where our fun began. Scott and Scott answered all of our questions and we had a blast just learning from them. Tracy was so friendly and willing to bring us another drink! We asked about other local restaurants and the Scotts gave us great inside scoop. One of the best moments was when I did something I have never done before; I asked about ordering off the menu. The Scotts chatted, asked if we like mushrooms, and voila, out came an amazing dish! The service was spot on, the food was delicious, and lasting memories.
