The kids meals...ours was already gone.

Lives up to the name...a gem of a place. Good seasoning and dice that creeps up on you. Fried chicken is an excellent portion, boneless thighs and a big biscuit with honey butter. The mac and cheese is creamy and made with cavatappi pasta. The etouffe portion looked small but I am stuffed! It was loaded with crawfish in a tomato cream sauce. Wish they were in Salem.

First time and just loved it. Crawfish gumbo was delicious. Hubby and I also shared the crawfish jambalaya. Pretty spicy but really good. Jason was our waiter and bar keep. The hurricanes were Yummy. Great service and food. Loved the Dr. JOHN playing in the background.

We come here to eat everytime we visit McMinnville and it's always high-quality and delicious. This time around, I was feeling adventurous and I ordered a Bloody Mary with an undisclosed house topping, Voodoo fries, and Oysters on the half shell. The bloody Mary was absolutely stunning visually, with a whole crawfish and other treats on top. The flavor was also very good, nice and spicy! The Voodoo fries were so yummy and I kind of wish we had ordered a large! Now I know for next time. :) Lastly, the oysters were very fresh and I enjoyed them a lot. I also snagged a few bites of my hubby's shrimp gumbo and that was super yummy too. Thank you for continuing to be the best dining spot in McMinnville!

Just like the name, this place is a "gem" in the small town of McMinnville. We only ate the beignets, and they were hot and delicious. The Bloody Mary was a fun surprise (very spicy and not vegetarian!). Fun vibe with unique decor. Great service that was fast and friendly. Reasonable price point as well (at least compared to my home - the Bay Area).

Gotta love the taste of the South in Oregon Wine country. The calamari and shrimp Po Boy was delicious. The Gumbo is also tasty. I will be back to explore the rest of the menu next time hopefully.

Is a reservation recommended? The reservation option on the site didn't work and no answer on the phone? We did end up making a reservation because we had a large group but probably wasn't necessary at the time we went.

No, you can just go. It is a small place so not a ton of tables (I would say about 15) but I have never made a reservation and never had a problem getting seated.

Why do I seem to locate the most delicious foods in Oregon?…read more Not only did everything taste delicious and fresh cooked perfectly but across the street is the cutest grocery store that sells organic delicious food, drinks, and snack. But we will review them later *=* Back to the restaurant. Service was nice, for point price of food here, it would have been great if the server had asked if we wanted a refill on any of our drinks or if we needed anything else besides cleaning up our plates every chance they got when we were all still eating but resting between bites. I could loudly overheard the bartender and our server make a comment about my drink order. One other thing that was strange for us was how long it took someone to come over to get a drink order, while we looked over the menu. There were two servers and only two tables being occupied in the entire restaurant when we arrived since they had just opened. Towards the end of our dinner, the restaurant front manager came out. His name is Justin. Very nice person, asked how are meals and of everything was satisfactory for us. Now I could have mentioned the small little weird things but what mattered to me the most was spending time with my family. So maybe I might return or maybe not. Either way the restaurant itself was great! Food excellent but voicing your opinions regarding how people want their drinks or food when it is coming out of their own wallet should not be a topic for open discussion when the ordering person can hear the whole conversation. Justin please speak with your staff regarding timing. What is an appropriate length of time to allow guests to sit at a table. After watching two out of three servers walk past us so often I looked over at my spouse and wondered if we should find a different restaurant. So many layers, but thank you reader for sticking it out with me. Not sure why the little hiccup's happened but either way for a $217 bill and $30 tip service should have been better. This is just my own personal experience and opinion. Please check them out for yourself because everything we ate and drank was delicious. Mainly the front house issues. I too also use to be a server so I come from a different culture when dining.

There's plenty of tables and a long bar with ample seats. The service has been mostly good. The wine list is ample and the cocktail selection is massive. I haven't had a bad drink here. This most recent time, I ordered the 45 minute paella. I don't mind waiting with a glass of wine or cocktail for something that's a treat like paella. Sadly, when it came out it was disappointing. The seafood was cooked well but a little underseasoned. The rice was very bland. I'd chalk it up to someone having a bad night, but this is the second time I ordered the paella and was disappointed. Sad to say, there are enough better restaurants in Mac that I don't think I'll rush back here on my next trip to the area.

Beautiful restaurant, we really expected a bit of a crowd. We were seated and greeted, waters were provided with menus. We started our meal experience by telling our waiter that we planned to do a progressive dinner down 3rd Street. We were met with a rather disappointed / disheartened response. Their menu was absolutely stunning. Lots of great options. As this was our first stop of the evening, we went for an appetizer. The Albacore Confit absolutely out of this world. Ridiculously good. Huge portion, plated beautifully. Wonderful for the three of us to share. We all raved at how lovely the dish was. Drinks were absolutely fabulous. Gin martini was SOLID. My partner didn't care for his wine but it was a first-time try, that isn't the fault of the restaurant. The Dolores O'Riordan martini was absolutely wonderful. The bar was timely with drinks, which is always appreciated. Overall, ambiance, food, and drink were AMAZING! Absolutely a 5-star experience. However, service just did not slap. We could have survived with the disheartened response at us only staying for one-course but the end of our time with Grounded Table kinda kicked us all in the butt. As they handed me the check, we were met with "We hope you can join us for an entire meal sometime". The inflection was just catty and unnecessary. Trying to look past it, I continued to complete the check but after they departed the table, my dinner-mates both whispered under their breath "that did not just happen, how rude!" Meh, this could hae been the easiest 5-star review ever. The attitude of our server kinda blew the entire experience, the comment was unnecessary.

Yesterday took us to McMinnville for the Wonderland Brew Fest... after the festival, we decided to do a progressive dinner. Stop at every interesting restaurant on / near 3rd Street and eat until we were satisfied... Thistle threw a big ole wrench in our plans, and we are DELIHTED they did! After a not so great first restaurant experience, we happened upon Thistle at the recommendation of a friend. We decided to stop in for an appetizer and a drink. We were immediately greeted by a lovely man named Patrick who was so friendly and accommodated us at a lovely table in the center dining room. Round #1 of drinks was ordered with the Gnocchi and Duck Liver Mousse. Good. LORDT. We were smitten at sip and bite #1. After the first round, we settled into having a second round before heading out... next thing you know, a Pork Confit hit our table. OUT OF THIS WORLD. The talent of this chef is beyond words. Our planned 45 minute stop turned into a whole evening. The drinks were absolutely out of this world. The food was ridiculously good. Truly, the absolute best restaurant in all of McMinnville. To the chef, John Thomas IV and the owner, Patrick, THANK YOU! You truly too an average Saturday evening into one of our favorite trips to McMinnville of all times. We raved and sang the praises of our experience to all our friends this morning at brunch. Our one evening alone will guarantee our return many many times in the future. If you're from McMinnville and haven't tried Thistle yet, do it! If you're visiting, stop searching for your dinner destination and call for your reservation now. Music was excellent; audible but not intrusive. Comfy chairs. Lower lighting, well placed. Service was excellent, friendly and fast. I think our server's name was Mikayla; a gem. Attentive and observant but never intrusive. Drinks: my old fashioned was absolutely perfect and my husband's margarita was fine. Appetizers: beer cheese was well balanced and a bit runny, which I prefer over the library paste version some places serve. (Whatever is in their seasoning for chips and fries should be sold separately -- I wanted to try it on everything.) We probably should have stopped there, as the portions were abundant, but our mains were amazing. Smash burger was insanely juicy, nice and onion-y with a few Crunchy Brown Bits around the edges. The roll was fresh and tender, with a good crust; flavorful, not just a shingle. The fries were the best I've had in Salem. Get the garlic-thyme upgrade; you won't regret it. My ribeye was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately they were out of both compound butters, apparently due to a busy Friday, but everything was well seasoned. The vegetable of the day was roasted Brussels sprouts with a sweet-and-salty sauce, almost like kettle corn; amazing.
