The cafe is a local treasure. Special dinner offerings by day of week. A generous, delicious breakfast offering. Had to get a to-go box, so much food.

    So called Caesar salad

This was supposed to be a " Caesar salad", so I was expecting a traditional Caesar salad also expecting to get what was described as a Caesar salad in the menu. Instead I got a chefs salad with spring mix, hard boiled eggs, tomato, cucumber, and a mix of blue cheese dressing and Caesar dressing. So I call and tell them they gave me a chefs salad instead of a Caesar salad and the lady on phone told me to bring it in and they'd remake it, get there and they proceed to tell me this is a Caesar salad and it's how it comes, completely unlike what they're menu says and does nothing for me. COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY. Also should add that I've been here many times for the exact same thing and it was never this.

    Chicken fried steak. Yum!

Great staff and hearty food. This is the newest restaurant in town and they work hard to earn your business. I had the chicken fried steak and it was excellent. Large portions too

The interior is very cute - there was a red checkered tablecloth on our table. Our waitress was super nice and friendly. When we ordered the espresso martini and mentioned we only wanted one to share, she came back with it split into two mini glasses! We've never had that happen before. The french toast was really good, esp. with the lemon curd. I was scraping every last bit of it into my mouth. I'd love to try other menu items next time!

We had a 10:45 reservation but ended up waiting outside on the sidewalk for over 40 minutes. We got a couple of "it'll be soon" updates and one offer to sit at a picnic table on the sidewalk. That wasn't an option for my husband's back. And, by that point, it felt like we'd already had the full sidewalk experience! To add to the frustration, we watched a table that would have fit our party turn over and be given to a group that had arrived well after us. Once seated, things didn't improve much. Our daughter has celiac disease, and after talking through options with our server, she ordered a modified breakfast plate. When it arrived, it had two slices of (gluten-full) toast placed right in the middle. We asked for a remake. While we were waiting someone came over to tell us (firmly) that the kitchen isn't dedicated gluten-free. We fully get that, but that's different from putting bread on top of everything on the plate, especially after we'd already discussed the restriction. As I was saying that, the staff member walked away. The interaction felt more like a lecture than the apology that would've been appropriate. The food overall was okay, but not memorable. My husband said the "special" Bloody Mary was the worst he's ever had--memorable, just not in a good way. On the positive side, the gluten-free coffee cake was excellent, and thankfully the company made the day worthwhile. My guess is there may have been an issue with our reservation. We made it in person previously and it was written in a notebook. When we called to confirm the day before, they initially couldn't find it. It felt like it might not have made it into the system, and they were trying to accommodate on the fly once they realized it. If that's the case, a little transparency upfront would have gone a long way--we would have appreciated the option to adjust our plans rather than end up waiting outside for so long. Overall, this felt like a series of misses and mishandled opportunities to improve the experience. It's also an excellent reminder of why I normally steer clear of dining out on holidays.

The restaurant has a cozy, homey feel, and the staff took the experience to another level. When we sat down, they asked if we wanted to look at the menu or simply leave it up to the chef and go with the "Francisco Special." Without even glancing at the menu, we decided to trust them... and we were so glad we did. It ended up being one of our favorite dining experiences. Every one of the five courses was spectacular. They also asked about any dietary restrictions before the meal began. We didn't have any, but after chatting with the chef, we learned that he has spent time eating plant-based and experimenting extensively with plant-based alternatives. Based on that conversation, I imagine they would be more than capable of accommodating dietary restrictions. One of my favorite parts of the evening was that each dish came with a brief explanation, either the story behind the dish or details about the ingredients and preparation. It made the meal feel thoughtful, personal, and memorable from start to finish. I wish I got more/better pictures of the food but our phones didn't eat first this time... P.S. We told hostess we did not want to sit at the bar, she sat us at the bar, after some more wait, we did get a table. Coffee was ok, but the cups were huge, always 2/3 full of cold coffee. The food took one hour to find our table. Nothing special, my wife had an omelet, with a big glob of Brie cheese, overpowering the omelet. I had corned beef hash that was extremely dry and salty. I also had warm rye bread. Not toasted. We were half done with our breakfast, and was given the bill, and boxes to go. Very rushed, crowded, and expensive. $58 for sub-par breakfast for 2. Sorry WOM, didn't cut it.
