I visited this restaurant for the first time yesterday. It was an amazing experience. A great waiter. Very polished and professional. We ordered drinks and an appetizer to start. He suggested we have a sampling taste of the soups of the day before ordering. We settled on two different cups of soup. Then ordered our entrees. One was a basic hamburger plain with just bacon. The person who ordered it said it was the best tasting burger he ever had. I ordered the bouillabaisse that had shrimp. Scallops, crab, and a wonderful piece of Halibut. The sauce was extremely tasty. Another entree sautéed oysters. Everything was outstanding. We don't stop and ordered desserts that our waiter suggested. It was just a fantastic experience. read more

Side Door Cafe had been a long-time favorite of mine for many years of annual visits to this part of the Oregon Coast, but I had not visited for several recent years due to a serious family illness. Upon returning this year, I looked forward to another great meal there. I was surprised to find that Side Bar Cafe has changed quite a bit from what I remembered. In the past the restaurant used only the southern part of the building it's in, with maybe 16 tables, which created a warm and quiet atmosphere suitable for a date night. I was surprised to find that they have expanded to include many more tables and a second bar in the adjoining space, which was formerly rarely used, seemingly only for random entertainment events. This created a busier and noisier environment, which I didn't enjoy as much. The list of food and beverages on the menu is much greater than in that distant past. From what I could tell from one visit the food is just as good as it was, but the place felt more crowded and the service was more rushed due to the volume of guests, and the noise level was definitely higher. I will go again on my next visit to the area, but my fond expectations will have changed. read more

Yummm! We came for girls dinner. I got the salmon special which came with a twice baked potato, veggies and salmon. There wasn't a lot of veggies it was four pieces of asparagus. The twice baked was pretty flat. Salmon was delicious. So rate 3/5. The cookie ice cream sandwich was HUGE! We split it between the four of us. Service was impeccable hence the five star review. Great little café with beautiful ambience and atmosphere and decor. Staff is very kind and helpful. The food is absolutely delicious. It's a little pricey, but it's a small town so it's expected but definitely worth it because the quality is superb. I got a halibut burger which was delicious on a brioche bun and then I got a little bit of the seasonal seafood chowder, which was a great little appetizer beforehand. Their coffee is great. The steak was really juicy and tender and on point as well. Definitely check out this place if you're in the area, it's worth it. read more

On our honeymoon, my husband and I looked for a unique spot to celebrate. After looking online, we were quickly drawn to Side Door Cafe. Another excellent experience and delicious meal. Everyone loved what they ordered. Parm crusted halibut on risotto, grilled salmon with squash hash, prawn and crab cakes, key lime pie and more! Service excellent. (This restaurant is superior to the popular seafood restaurant in Newport. If you are in Newport - drive the twenty minutes for an excellent and well worth it dining experience! Another trip to the beach and dinner at Side Door. Mocktails are getting so good!!! The Lamb I cannot get away from! Fried Oysters were something new to us and very good! Our server made things feel rushed and from ordering to clearning plates. Not sure why, there were plenty of reservations online still and the place wasn't overly busy and there was no wait to be seated. When paying $190.00 I like to feel welcomed and relaxed. First I concede the food is top drawer hence the 4 stars. This is located off Hwy 101 in the middle of nowhere; isolated humble surroundings. If you are late they charge $45 a head to your credit card. This is not the late Chez Paul of Chicago. It's a rustic strange decor backwoods structure. The management boldly adds a 25% gratuity without mention. That's $25 for every $100; and the prices are high. read more

With encouragement from Mike our waiter, I upgraded the shrimp quesadilla to prawns. We've been here at least 10 times over the past two years, and it never disappoints! Tonight, we shared the demi baguette with balsamic/olive oil, the AMAZING seafood chowder (OMG!), and the capellini with grilled chicken. We ate here on a Tuesday in December. We had reservations, but they weren't needed--the space is large and it wasn't busy. The decor and ambience are very nice. The menu wasn't enormous but there were several good options. Our food was tasty. My husband ordered crab cakes, and they were fluffier than we were used to and tasted more of vegetables than crab. My quesadilla was larger than I expected. There were lots of nice dessert choices as well. The service was fine, although we were left waiting longer than we liked at times. This might have been due to the very large party seated nearby. read more

I am a big fan of Side Door, have been there many times. However, I was there a few nights ago for dinner with some friends and had an awkward experience. One of my friends and I ordered a fish dish, and we both wanted mashed potatoes with it instead of what came with the dish. The waiter said there would be an up charge for the potatoes. We both agreed that we still wanted the potatoes. We then ordered a half loaf of baguette for the table. It came with two servings of butter, so we asked for more butter. When we got our check, the restaurant charged us $8 each for the mashed potatoes, and charged us for the extra butter. For a restaurant of this quality, I was shocked. This is now my favorite restaurant on the Oregon coast. Best seafood dishes, great drinks, and nice menu with a variety of dishes. At the cost point, I would not say this place is worthwhile. Also, maybe the waitress was having a bad day? The salad was fine and obviously isn't the fanciest menu item. I was just so turned away by the interactions I had. She was rude to my parents. It just felt like we were not welcome. That's completely a subjective experience though. Aside from that.... It was a dimly lit, well intentioned place to go to get some good food. Fantastic for a date night. It has character. I would not say that I'll be back soon. That's about it. The service was terrible, we had no check ins after we ordered. My husband ordered the soba and it was swimming in sauce. Stopped in on our way to Depoe. Wasn't sure what to expect but we were extremely happy with our meal. This place is huge and divided into two rooms. The front room is bright with lots of fun touches to look at. We didn't want anything super heavy so we both choice sandwiches. I got the tuna melt and my husband got the turkey Reuben. For sides there were a few different choices. We both chose a side salad. Sorry, forgot to take pics but let me just say everything was beautifully presented, delicious and huge. And marble rye - Yum! The side salad was not your typical boring lettuce and tomato salad. Carrots, cucumber, two types of tomato, crispy lettuce, and pickles on the side. Seriously, so good and filling that we both took half our sandwiches to go. Shout out to our friendly server, Mike for not only taking good care of us but for also giving us a sightseeing tip in Depoe. We followed his directions, and were able to find another beautiful path along the coast. Perfect way to burn off a few calories. Side Door Cafe has a large menu. I surprised my wife with a trip to the coast for Valentines Day. I made a reservation in November for Side Door and another Portland restaurant - I canceled the Portland reservation. This is our second time at Side Door - it was as we remembered - wonderfully delicious. The food is superb - they know how to cook a steak - med-rare - somehow is a challenge for most "steak houses". Not SD - they nailed it. Wife ordered the wild mushroom ravioli and was not disappointed - it's her favorite dish wherever we go, but SD does it the best. Portions were on point - enough for a little leftover snack and not too much that you can't clean your plate. Wife ordered wine and I had a marionberry mule - well, 2, and I don't drink cocktails - I'm a beer guy. It was well mixed and I love the copper cups they come in. Amazing flavor and not overdone in any one ingredient - loved it so much, I'm buying my own mix equipment and a set of copper cups! Atmosphere is legit - quiet, welcoming, warm, makes you want to come back just to sit at the bar for a drink. Our server was very attentive - he could "read the room" and didn't pester or anything - paid attention that's for sure. We will be back. She's incredibly attentive, quick, and always so genuinely happy and welcoming. We've recommended this place multiple times because the overall experience is great, but Annie is the reason we happily drive an extra 30 minutes for dinner and spend our money here. We had an amazing meal here and shared everything from start to finish. I ordered the halibut, which was a nice portion perfectly cooked and served over creamy risotto with tender rapini (Italian-style broccoli) that added just the right touch of earthy bitterness -- truly delicious. My husband had the seafood fettuccine, which was loaded with clams, scallops, and large, juicy shrimp, all tossed in a fragrant white wine garlic sauce that was rich and satisfying. Absolutely divine while dreaming of having it again right now. For starters, we each had a soup. One was a cheesy, creamy chorizo masterpiece -- absolute comfort in a bowl. Mine was a crab chowder overflowing with sweet, tender crab, far beyond what I expected in the best way. One soup came with a rustic slice of bread and butter, hearty and perfect, and we also ordered a half baguette, which arrived warm, fresh, and ready for dipping into olive oil and vinegar. The Bloody Mary's were beautifully presented and balanced -- bold, zesty, and just the right kick to start the meal. For dessert, we shared their key lime pie, which was incredible. It had an extra-thick, homemade graham cracker crust and was piled high with fresh whipped cream. The presentation was stunning. And all the desserts are House made. Yum!! Every entrée was plated beautifully, and the restaurant itself is tastefully decorated, with comfortable booth seating and a welcoming, helpful staff. We also appreciated the big bottle of ice water they set on the table so we didn't have to wait for refills -- a thoughtful touch. We're already looking forward to going back. This place is a sort of hidden gem right off the 101. It's a semi formal restaurant with a bar and they specialize in American classics. The pasta is on par with what I have in Italy, it is that good. Fresh made delicate and cooked "al dente". Very generous portions of seafood as well. Service attentive and polite, they treated my mom very well and that is a high plus! I'm thankful this place is on our list, I will go back, my mom will go back, and I would be having this on a list to take guests for sure when in town!! Side Door is sure to impress!!! read more

This little gem was in Gleneden. Just wonderful! Went for our anniversary and they put our names on the sidewalk as we came in that was so sweet! We started with the bacon wrapped blue cheese dates. And the seafood fettuccine with crab, scallops, shrimp and clams and the 16oz New York strip with Demi and wild mushrooms and a twice baked potato perched on top more potatoes were what we got for entree's. I asked for my shrimp that went with the steak on the side since I don't eat them. The portions are huge and the ambience was perfection! Cozy, friendly, bustling, and just delicious. We got the peanut butter pie which was huge and decadent, missed the photo of that sadly. We also got the lemon curd cheesecake with was thick and lemony. Service was good. We had luch. Room was quite for a Wednesday afternoon. We had a order for bread starter full baguette and cultured French butter. It was warm and tasty. All of us ordered the Crab cakes and grilled shrimp with red pepper broth and mashed potatoes. It was wonderful and very filling. Asparagus was the vegetable. The atmosphere was calm and serene. Love how the entrance really is a side door- left side door to be exact Once you walk through the door, there is a cafe and seating-- as you walk past the greeter you walk into a large cozy space filled with low dim light, booths and an ample amount of seating for a large party. Our waitress was super nice, helpful and attentive. 23% tip is added to the bill automatically due to party size but the staff deserved it. We all came out full and happy. All cocktails ordered were sturdy The ribeye was rich, juicy and full of flavor. A little off the main road and right before Depoe Bay, we stopped to check this place out. It's a charming vibe and I love the decor including all of the jello molds all over the walls! The menu has a lot of options. We tried to order the burrata on the specials but the server forgot to put the order in. Oh well. That being said, our sever was gracious and the food was delivered promptly. I ordered the halibut over risotto and my husband ordered the halibut sandwich. The halibut was excellent. I was a little disappointed that they were out of the non-alcoholic sparkling wine as I've recently quit drinking however, the Marionberry "mockarita" was excellent!
