With beautiful view of the pier and sea and fishing and tour boats passing by, but most of all the sea lions located just in-front of the restaurant. Besides the view the food is exceptionally fresh and delicious, I ordered the New Seafood platter so I could try a lot of different items on the menu. The chilled Dungeness crab was very good and tasty. No need to add anything! The fresh shucked oysters were tasty and fresh and clean. The crab dip was exceptionally good with chucks of crab meat to eat with the fried won ton chips & crackers. The ceviche was okay and also the spicy shrimp salad. The clam chowder was very good and flavorful and it was okay on the thicker side, came out nice and hot not warm. My wife had the Halibut & garlic fries which the French fries were very tasty and crispy and the halibut was great with a lightly breaded batter. Service was great and waiter was friendly Restroom they have 1 on the 1st floor and another one on the 2nd floor to be shared by both men & women. Restroom was clean only thing with the amount of customers they can accommodate you most likely have to wait to use the restroom. We made reservations in advance and ended up with a table with a view on a beautiful clear day. What a beautiful location. We tried the straberry/watermelon salad to start, and that was absolutely delicious. I had the filet mingon for dinner and that was well prepared. We thought it was great. The only odd thing was the waiter never cleared any of our dirty dishes. So our salad plate sat in the middle of table for the entire meal, which was kinda strange. read more

My fiance and I ate here yesterday and had the best time! We had a beautiful spot next to the bar and window on the second floor. Great view of the ocean and docks. We got the seafood platter as an appetizer and it was so delicious! We got to try a little bit of everything. We were pretty full just off of that but got entrees. The ahi poke in the seafood platter was so good I had to get it as my main. The sauce was so incredible with fresh avocado. I NEED that recipe. I would come back to Newport just for the ahi poke bowl. My fiance got the dungeness crab mac and cheese and it was without a doubt THE BEST mac and cheese we've ever had. We are Mac and cheese connoisseurs so that says a lot. The sauce was so perfect and the crab was very generous. To top it all off I thought the post cards at the end were very sweet. Snag as table by the window if you can -- watching the sea lions jostling each other on the docks below is big time entertainment in and of itself. Otherwise I dig the very cozy vibe here, which feels elevated but not too fancy, with a snug bar tucked into the upstairs area. The views over Yaquina Bay are great. The menu looked interesting enough, definitely a couple of levels up from the pub fare served at most places down the street. I recommend the Rockfish tacos, lightly breaded fish wrapped in flexible but sturdy tortillas with a nice hot sauce on the side. Surprisingly tender and tasty. My veggie burger though? Hard pass. It was fairly flavorless and disappointingly mushy --- and completely overpowered by a disproportionately sized bun.no texture whatsoever. I should probably deduct another star but... eh. We went out for our anniversary. We don't get much alone time with a toddler and a baby at home, so when we go out we want it to be worth it. In today's restaurant industry it's hard to spend a lot of money on eating out without having high expectations. Clearwater exceeded those expectations! Everything tasted fresh off the boat! The food was incredible! My husband and I shared the seafood platter, which was phenomenal. We also shared the seared ahi with wasabi mashed potatoes. I don't typically like wasabi and I enjoyed it. We finished our meal with the bread puffing and crème brûlée, which was arguably the best dessert ever. The service was top notch. Our food came out incredibly fast and the waiter was amazing. He was very kind and generous but also thoughtful. The view was beautiful and it was fun to enjoy the sea lions during our meal. If you're planning to visit, definitely try to make reservations. We came on a Wednesday with a 6:30 pm reservation and the place was packed. People who came without a reservation were told that there's about an hour wait or they could sit at the bar level on the first floor. There's also a second bar on the second floor where the main dining room is up a flight of stairs. Service was great and we were lucky enough to sit by the window overlooking the sea lions, the water, and the Yaquina Bay Bridge. Food wise, it was mostly 5 star. I'll start with the thing that wasn't, and that was the deviled eggs (you get 3) with a lightly fried shrimp. The shrimp was overcooked, lukewarm, and didn't really add anything. But other than that, everything else was really good. The highlight was the Umpqua oysters on the half shell. We went through a dozen and a half. The oysters are sweeter, no briny. They're not huge but not tiny either like Kusshi oysters. It came with 3 different sauces. Another highlight was the whole dungenous crab...so fresh. Poke salad, garlic brussel sprouts, Yellowtail Hamachi, and Lingcod were also pretty good. If I'm ever in the area, I would definitely return. read more

Clearwater was one of the first restaurants I ever visited on the Oregon coast. It had a perfect setting on the water in a great location in town. With piers and floating docks filled with sea lions lazily fighting each other for a space to lounge, I was captured by the novelty. For whatever experience it was visually, it was matched by the meal, which was excellent. Big menu, and it's all done well. In the summer, the seating outside is fantastic, and in the spring, the wildlife is a show. Even the custom pens they had made with their own namesake felt smooth in my hand as I wrote the check. So much so, that I asked if I could have that pen and a couple others. They obliged, and to this day they are some of the nicest feeling pens I own It's been five years, and the restaurant is still fantastic, and one I recommend to everyone visiting out on the coast. However, they got rid of the custom pens, so I have to give them four stars. read more

This place continues to be our absolute favorite restaurant in Newport! We come here whenever we're in the area. Love how they have a parking lot with designated spots for Clearwater customers. We are always able to find a spot there, which is so convenient because it gets extremely busy and crowded on weekends and anytime during summer months. The street parking fills up fast! We recently made reservations for a late birthday lunch while staying on the Newport Belle across the bay. As always, they had our table ready and a Happy Birthday placard on the table. They also put the large firework on our dessert to celebrate the occasion. Love that they don't sing and make it super embarrassing. This is the second reservation where they reserved the best table in the house, up in the bar area right in the window. The view from there is outstanding! We had an amazing dinner at Clearwater tonight. The oysters on the half shell were the perfect small size and wonderful, straight from Yaquina Bay. Whether you're there for lunch or dinner, you're treated to a stunning waterfront scene that's worth the visit alone. But the view is just the beginning. The service was top-notch--we were lucky to have Kelli P as our server, and she truly made the experience memorable. He was knowledgeable, warm, funny, and gave us excellent recommendations that made a great meal even better. We started with the crab cakes, which my wife insists are the best she's ever had. The watermelon salad was another standout--refreshing and creative, with almonds, whipped goat cheese, fried feta, and fresh strawberries, all brought together with a delicious roasted strawberry dressing. For mains, we had two chicken sandwiches with fries, both perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Even the lemonade impressed us--fresh, handmade, and a refreshing touch to the meal. Don't skip their drink specials if you're in the mood. And dessert? Friend and I were looking for restaurants in Newport that had seafood and vegetarian options and we found Clearwater online! We walked in on July 4th Friday around 4pm with no reservation and we were seated immediately by the window which had a nice view of the bay. There were a few vegetarian options so I ordered the veggie burger with sweet potato fries and then my friend got the seafood curry. We waited about 30-40 minutes for our food and upon getting the meals, we noticed that both were lukewarm temperature - possible they were sitting out for a while. We asked our waiter if the food could be warmed up and after 20 minutes, we received fresh plates Veggie burger (3/5): Generous portion size. The sweet potato fries were pretty good! I asked for ranch on the side which paired nicely with the fries. Thought they could have been seasoned a little more (more salt, pepper, etc.). The burger on the other hand was underwhelming. The quinoa patty lacked flavor and it was a bit mushy so the burger kept falling apart. Seafood curry (3.5/5): My friend said that this was fairly average considering the price point. She really liked the mussels, but otherwise the curry was a bit bland and the rice was too salty. The second time around, the curry came with the garnish on top so she was unsure why it was missing in the first place. Also, after getting a new plate, the rice was still lukewarm. I appreciated that a seafood restaurant like Clearwater had vegetarian dishes and that the staff made our food again from scratch. Wow! Second best restaurant on this trip! All the food was good except the burger which was mediocre. They are not shellfish allergy friendly for fried food at all but did have some accommodations for a friend with allergies. We ordered the crab Mac n cheese which is to die for good! I also ordered the whole crab and it was good. The drinks are absolutely fantastic and the vibe both inside and outside seating was perfect for the coast! The only thing missing was the sea lions but thats our fault for going in July while they're in California for mating season. If you want to see the sea lions avoid June and early July. read more
