The skirt steak salad was delicious. I subbed the cilantro crema dressing for balsamic. I was very happy that the dressing was served on the side along with a side of spicy Sirracha sauce. Each bite was delicious with avocado, cheese, onion, tortilla strips, etc. Excellent service. Delicious wine. I ordered the only rose by the glass they had available at the time ($18 for 8oz) and bf ordered a whiskey fog for $15. Beautiful view of the ocean, sat outside in the sun while the weather was just right. It's seat yourself so if you find a table you like, you can grab one inside or out. I would definitely go back as I enjoyed the experience. My bf says he wouldn't because the service was slow. I say stay on beach time and enjoy every moment. read more

Everything was excellent We have eaten here twice in the last few months when visiting Newport Once each for lunch time and dinner Menus are the same We have tried the deviled eggs, fish tacos, tenderloin steak tips, Brussels sprouts, smashed potatoes. The view of the ocean gives this spot a whimsical charm. It's a beautiful space that invites you to relax with your book or enjoy a meal with family and friends. They have a full coffee bar to get your day started. The drink menu offered NA cocktails and also a full bar as well. We stopped to watch the waves in a wind storm and have a snack. We wanted the smashed potatoes but we're told they could not be made vegetarian because of the bacon. Leaving bacon off of vegetables seems like a must. I guess they cook their potatoes in the bacon? I'm not sure, but it was a true let down. We opted for fried avocados with a creamy dipping sauce. They were flavor packed and had a crisp outside texture. The brussel sprouts were able to be made vegetarian by taking the bacon off. That was a relief and we enjoyed both of our sides. We stayed at the newly renovated AllRed hotel. The food and drinks were very reasonably priced and the dinning room was spacious and inviting. It over looks the ocean and plenty of places to sit and enjoy our meal. We chose to sit upstairs. They have beautiful booths and larger sitting areas for bigger groups. We ordered quite a bit of food. All the food we ordered we truly enjoyed. Everything tasted great. The food presentation was also on point. They have a variety of dishes to choose from and there is something for everyone. Food can out in a timely manner. No complaints from the kitchen. Now, for the service..... Our server was very nice and friendly. I have no complaints about her. She was doing a good job. However, it took the bar 60 minutes to bring out our alcohol drinks. We weren't even given waters. So all our food came out but we had nothing to drink! The kids got all their drinks but not the adults. We went to order a second round and that took 40 minutes! The restaurant was empty as it was closing time. I was truly disappointed with this. Not sure why it took so long. Maybe they were short staffed and not given enough coverage? I think they should have more bartenders. Other than that it was enjoyable. I would definitely come back. read more

This review may be greatly influenced by the gorgeous weather we experienced Sunday afternoon, but some of that credit goes to the wonderful veranda setting at the Allred Bites + Bar. What's not to love about sitting outdoors, with the magnificent Pacific Ocean right in front of you; sipping a glass of wine, and enjoying delicious food? Such a lovely setting called for a glass of crisp white wine, and the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc I ordered hit the spot perfectly. It paired so perfectly with my main course, that I actually had to get a second pour. For a starter course, my wife and I went with the Chicken Avocado Eggrolls, which were quite delicious. The outer wrappers were nice and crisp, and the Szechuan drizzle and hoisin dipping sauce added great umami flavor to the dish. I ordered the Dungeness Crab Ravioli for a main course, and added a side of brussels sprouts to go with them. The ravioli was filled with crab meat and ricotta cheese, and served with an Asiago cream sauce and a pieces of warm toasted baguette slices. I think the ravioli could have used a little more crab meat, but overall the dish was wonderful -- and as mentioned, the light and crisp white wine made for an excellent pairing. The brussels sprouts were expertly prepared, without any bitterness or toughness -- and a large enough portion to share with my wife. For dessert, we opted for the Affogato, but sadly they were out of their salted caramel ice cream. It was still very good, even with vanilla ice cream; although I found the coffee to have a little more of a burnt note that most Affogatos I've head. We thoroughly enjoyed our dessert, none-the-less. Our only real disappointment could have been due to the time we were ordering our food -- it was between lunch and dinner, so they may not have been fully staffed. After a manager showed us to the outside seating, and told us a server would come help us, we sat and waited... and waited... and waited. Again, not a big deal, considering the gorgeous setting -- I could have sat there all afternoon, even without food or wine! Once our server did arrive, he did a fine job with helping us; although he was not knowledgeable about wine at all, so I had to consult Google to figure out which glass of white to order. Given his young age, I wouldn't expect him to know a lot about wine, but it may be a place for the establishment to better educate it's wait staff. Overall, it was a wonderful, memorable experience; and I would definitely do it all over again. Easy 5 stars. read more

Went here for dinner tonight. I had the Garlic Butter Bistro Steak. It was wonderful, medium rare as described, tender and juicy. I also had a side of French fries, which were terrible. They were soft and limp, absolutely no crunch to them. The service was kind but needed some gentle training. When menus are left open, it generally means the person is not ready to order. I appreciated the attentiveness however. Also, when a person hardly touches a portion of their meal (the fries), perhaps thry should be asked if everything was to their liking. Place was clean and view was beautiful. Wish I had checked out the patio. read more

The food was delicious also while complementing the scenery while we ate. The rooms look to be updated modern and very clean. Pool was not heated, but the hot tub and sauna made up for it definitely. Only one thing wrong here. Unfortunately, in this area there's a lot of car bums in the direct area. The restaurant is beautiful with beautiful ocean views from the 2nd floor. Our room was absolutely beautiful but the restaurant was spendy. You have to order everything separately. Main dish about $20 with sides about $10! I ordered the 3 deviled eggs from the "Bites" menu $9 and a Cubano sandwich from the "Handheld" menu $10. Both were good but the Cubano was just 1/2 sandwich cut creatively. My husband ordered the halibut $20 and that's all he got just about a 5 ounce piece of Halibut. He wanted the smashed potatoes but they wouldn't make them without bacon. He was still hungry after the halibut so he bought the halibut tacos for$18! He said those were the best tacos and they had more halibut in them than the original plate of Halibut. Our Bill came to $72 which I thought was really high when we got very little food! The service and ambiance were wonderful but we won't eat there again. read more

The server (Spring) was fast and amazing and good. Great setting too. The drink was great as well. The dinner, the seafood chimichanga was amazing tasting, but a very small portion. What a beautiful looking bar and restaurant. Service was fine and a bit slow. Everyone was nice. We got the crab ravioli and I liked it. My drink was excellent. The avocado fries were mushy on the inside which is what I thought it would be like, but my husband wanted to try them. The Brusell Sprouts had good flavor, but were not cut properly They had the hard end left on. I always cut that part off when I cook them. It was unpleasant to bite into. Also they were not cooked through and could have used 5-8 more mins of cook time.The french fries were good. The halibut I liked but was a bit dry and overcooked. Great ideas and good food recipes, maybe they just need to work on the execution. Except for the avocado fries, they are just not a good texture due to avocado being so soft and do not think they can be improved. We went here for espresso as well in the am. The machine was broken. Great experience- we frequently visit Newport every year, and knew that The Whaler had been overhauled and renamed. We were curious about the tapas bar. The seating and atmosphere is classy, professional, and laid back, all in one. Views of the ocean from most tables. We like the small plates restaurant idea. We had some drinks, the fried avocado, the stir fried quinoa, tenderloin tips, chicken fricassee, and a dessert. Everything was delicious. The server was polite and patient. We wished we had another night to come back and try some of the other menu items. We will be back. The hotel is stunning. read more
