This was another meal during our May 2024 Newport visit. I recall the server being a teenager and new to the job. It looks like the salmon dish my husband got had cheese on top (allergy) so I'm guessing we asked for it without the cheese after I snapped a photo and we noticed the cheese. There's a chance it's not cheese, but it looks like cheese... and goat/sheep cheese doesn't seem likely (he can have those... just not cow cheese). I wanted to eat fresh cooked Dungeness crab, but Chelsea Rose only had fresh Dungeness crab, and Gino's offered Crab on their menu, so off we went to check them out! After sitting down and ordering found out they were out of stock on Dungeness crab , so since we were there we might as well eat! I ordered fresh Oysters on a half shell and the waiter made the mistake on also inputting oysters shooters which both were very fresh clean and tasty! The crab cakes were made with Dungeness crab meat and it was delicious and full of crab and not overly made with fillers. The clam chowder was okay, but a little heavy and thick, but taste was great and served with oyster crackers. Restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating, the staff were very friendly and informative! Restroom was clean, right across the restaurant was the pier and Riley's Believe it or not Museum. Conveniently located lots of seafood processing plants nearby. Great food, but not a great experience. I've been there a lot of times over the years, almost every time I'm in town. This was disappointing. Website said open to 8:30, so we got there around 7:15. Big mistake! They started turning people away at 8:00, and started cleaning while we were eating. They were pretty inattentive. We felt rushed, and they seemed to feel inconvenienced when we asked for anything. I tried to order dessert at 8:10, but were told the dessert section was closed, so he just brought the check instead. We told the server the website said they were open until 8:30. He just told us, "Yes, the website says that, but it's no longer accurate." That was it. The food was really good, but there are a lot of places like this in Newport, and we would have gone somewhere else if we knew they didn't want us there. read more

Wow, I usually don't write reviews of places, but I have to say I stopped here on a trip up the coast...I guess it seems like you just have to get clam chowder. The thing about clam chowder is I don't really ever order it...it just isn't a thing where I'm at except for Campbell's soup cans... But the clam chowder at this place blew me away it was soooo good and I got some to go and the family thinks it's amazing too. Also had the Po Boy Sandwich with prawn and the prawns were perfectly cooked. The servers were A LITTLE slow but very apologetic about it and very nice, seemed mature for their age given most of the servers looked very young. If I could give negative stars, I would. Absolutely not child-friendly and extremely disappointing treatment of families. My family and I are on vacation and decided to stop here for lunch with our 3-year-old son. Like most toddlers, he was happily talking, laughing, and coloring while we waited for our food. This was during lunch, not some quiet fine-dining environment. Before we had even taken a single bite of our meal, an older couple sitting behind us began loudly complaining about the "noise." When the older man finished eating, he aggressively shoved and slammed his chair toward our table near my child and me. When my husband asked what his problem was, he responded that he wanted "f***ing peace and quiet." What was even more shocking was the owner's response. Instead of addressing a grown adult acting aggressively toward a family with a small child, she chose to side with him and told us to stop talking because "it's a restaurant." Let that sink in -- a restaurant owner defending a man who slammed furniture toward a table with a toddler because a 3-year-old was laughing during lunch. If you're a family with children, I would think twice before supporting a business that treats kids like an inconvenience and allows other customers to behave aggressively toward them. We left feeling embarrassed, unwelcome, and honestly stunned at how poorly this situation was handled. We will absolutely never return. read more

I wasn't kidding when I said I'd be back for more of that delectable crab dip of theirs - this is my third time revisiting Gino's and it's all about their fabulous Dungeness Crab, Shrimp & Cheese dip!! It's basically like a deconstructed crab rangoon and it comes with lovely crostinis to spread it on - pure heaven! This time I also tried their "Crew Share" plate which is a combo of fried treats - 2 pieces each of light, flaky halibut, plump scallops, giant prawns, and oysters - all cooked to perfection and full of flavor! It comes with coleslaw and their unique Gino's fries which are like plump potato chips crossed with steak fries - it was all excellent. They have a casual, beachy vibe with indoor seating and two outdoor seating sections - one right out front to watch the busy street action of adorable Newport and also a cute patio section. Service is always fast and friendly. Prices are comparable for the area - but the quality is definitely superior! The location is wonderful too - in the quaint little downtown area of coastal Newport - with lots of cute shops and candy stores and great views from all the piers. It's almost all street parking with one or two public lots but I've never had issues finding a spot. I'm already daydreaming about more of that dip so I'll definitely be back lol!
