After reading the negative reviews for this place I'm really confused, my family had a wonderful time here! First of all, there were 8 of us and they sat us within 15 minutes, I think for this the trick is simply politeness and a smile, I'm being very honest. The staff are probably used to belligerent and entitled tourists, so just a little bit of compassion makes things move quickly here! The food was excellent and the portions were great considering the price! I think the kids menu was also very impressive! Finally, we got some drinks here with our food and it didn't break the bank, so I would say this place really cares about its community and its patrons. read more

It's been 30 years! I just realize how many centuries I have lived through lol. I came out here in my early 20's with my baby to visit their dad who was docked in Newport for the weekend. He was in the Coast Guard out of Astoria and I drove the 3/4hrs (I don't remember exactly) to meet him. We had lunch at this Mo's. It was my 2nd Mo's exprience because the first one was in Cannon Beach. I worked at the hotel right next to it. I remember good food and chowder. I brought my daughter and niece here for lunch. They are students at the university in Eugene. I wanted them to experience the original Mo's and have some good food. The chowder is good. We all ate it up. I had fish tacos. It came with 3 big tacos, so come hungry. We also ordered a side of onion rings. I have to say that it was probably one of the better ones we've had in a long while. We really enjoyed our visit here and the waitress we had was awesome. She was super busy because she was also waiting on a big party but she never forgot to check on us. read more

We stopped in for a bite while on the coast going to see the seals. Delicious calm chowder and fish tacos. Large portions so shared the tacos with a friend. Mo's clam chowder is always a delicious treat in Newport. Hits the spot after a little shopping in the Bay Front. The bread bowl was just okay, basic bread. Next time I will order a bowl and will just eat it with saltine crackers which are the best crackers! The fish tacos were good. But the tortillas were not great. They were falling apart. Fries were nice and crispy and the fried clams were very good. The appetizer portion was a good size for one as a meal with a side salad or bowl of soup. read more

This was our first stop on the trip to Oregon. It's a cute small restaurant with great seaside decor. I ordered the fish and chips along with a cup of chowder. Absolute WORST Mo's we have ever experienced. We frequent Mo's for every family trip to the coast. We usually get fabulous service and the food is great. The kids will decimate three baskets of onion rings and the servings are large and we leave feeling food coma sick. Not here, we left ordinary sick. My youngest eats 3 bowls of chowder and barely choked down half a bowl. Tiny portions (half the size of all the other locations), one of the meals in the order didn't even come out and a kid w, never given water refills, burnt food, and the service was terrible. The kids barely touched the onion ring basket and said it was burnt and nasty, and even the ranch tasted weird. Won't be returning ever again. read more

Checking out the main area for tourists on the bag, we discovered Mo's. Now we know Mo's is everywhere along the Oregon coast. However, this is the first time we have seen "oyster stew" written on the outside of Mo's. Needless to say, we had to stop. Two entry ways. If you're walking west on the street, the sign says to walk in. We did and were told we needed to come in the other way. Well, we would have had we not seen the sign to walk in and knew there was another entrance up the street. Didn't really appreciate that from the front entry fella. Anyway, we were seated promptly and our server arrived almost immediately. We knew what we wanted so that part was easy. We ordered the oyster stew and clam chowder. It's so rare to find oyster stew on any menu and it was loaded with oysters.... very, very good and would definitely order it again. The Mo's Chowder was Mo's Chowder and good too. Friendly service and great food. While I wasn't hungry enough for a full meal, I wanted to indulge on some oysters! I The baked oysters come served with melted butter and lemon wedges. The oysters were super plump, flavorful, and satisfying. I wish they had fried oysters too, but these were still awesome. My partner ordered a bowl of clam chowder. My wife and I were craving some classic fish and chips while visiting the coast. While touring the beautiful town of Newport, OR., we stopped into Mo's for a quick lunch! The service was fast and polite. The environment is warming and clean. My wife ordered the same as I, COD fish and chips. However, for a side my wife ordered the shrimp salad and I settled on a cup of chowder. The food came out quickly and the server was professional but cold. The Fish was unfortunately overcooked and had a rubber-like texture. The clam chowder was great when I added additional salt and pepper. I did however, have a small clam shell in my chowder which surprised me with an unsettling crunch. The total bill was: $43.90 without any drinks. I feel that the price is fair. for a restaurant that promotes itself up and down the Oregon coast as the go to place for seafood, what an absolute disappointment. Wife and I went today and it's safe to say we will never return again. The world famous Clam Chowder, lacks any flavor and depth. Watery and overall not very good, if I am a betting man, we were served reheated leftovers from the weekend. Now, on to our entrees....do not order the fish and chips. Neither the breaded cod (should always be beer battered) nor the beer battered salmon had any flavor...nothing. Bland and tasteless, just like the fries. I'll never recommend this restaurant to any traveler, your better off finding a food truck or small hole in the wall location for superior tasting food. read more

I knew exactly what I wanted: a cup of chowder with cheesy garlic bread. I was seated and barely glanced at the menu. The eagle eyed waitress beelined toward me and cheerfully said something like "I see you set aside you menu already; you must have a plan!" Yes, I did. Mo's waitresses are true professionals, in my experience. This woman was everything you want in a waitress: older, genuinely friendly, prompt, and efficient. Like a good Jersey diner waitress, these women are usually ten times better at their jobs than the folks working at the fancy restaurants. Don't let people talk you out of Mo's because it's "basic". After a day at the beach, we decided to get some grub. We headed to Mo's. I ordered the chiopino and got some chowder. The broth of the chiopino was very flavorful and appropriate. The chowder was typical Mo's. There always seems to be debate about chowder, but I do like theirs. Kids got kid friendly meals and the wife got Halibut and chips. Mo's is a classic however I do feel their quality used to be a lot better. If you've never been to Mo's before you must go AND get their clam chowder. To me, it's just a bit bland and always needs more seasoning. It's good, not great. For me, it's nostalgic. I grew up going to Mo's all up and down the coast, and I can't tell you how many times my family and I would grab a cup of chowder every time we visited. The classic butter float is what I remember most. This was my first time at the "newer" Mo's across the street in Old Town. They have a beautiful outdoor space with a stage offering live music. The atmosphere out there was very nice on the warm sunny weekend my friends and I were lucky enough to experience. They offer a solid mix of cocktails and beers. I'd probably give this a 3.5 if I could. Service was quick and friendly so no complaints there, I just find it a bit pricey for what it is. read more

We came here on a Monday afternoon after visiting the lighthouse and tide pools. We were greeted at the front and asked for our cell number so they could text us when our table was ready. The wait was about 15 min. While we were waiting to receive our text we walked to the local shops and we were able to talk to some locals who were catching crabs in the pier. After we returned to be seated it was a cute medium sized place with ample seating and clean tables. We were greeted by our server who was very attentive and friendly. My fiancé and I had the clam chowder in the sourdough bread bowl. So freakin delicious! Our daughter had the fish n chips from the kids menu. To drink i had a mimosa called a "Momosa" which was larger than I expected and my fiancé had a beer which he said was flat. Had the beer not been flat I would give 5 stars. So overall 4 stars for this experience which I think is pretty great. I would definitely come back here and I do recommend it. Best clam chowder in Oregon! It's usually busy because it's so good. Whenever we visit Oregon, we always come to Mo's. It's in a fun location over the water and has a great view. It's a fun atmosphere too. They have good fish and chips. I recently tried the shrimp skewers and those were delicious. You can choose whether to have your shrimp cooked in garlic butter or blackened seasoning. You can also get both. I decided to try both. I was thinking I'd like the garlic butter more but I actually liked the blackened seasoning more. Next time I will get only the blackened seasoning. Absolutely terrible food. Old lady Mo herself which I have met would be rolling in her grave. Let's start with the chowder it had absolutely zero flavor we had to add tons of salt pepper and butter as well as the pieces of clam were all like gerbled up pieces. We ordered the seafood combination platter and calamari which had no taste to the breading and it tasted like it had been fried in dirty oil. Lastly the dinner salads with the coleslaw and Bay shrimp on top locked any flavor at all and there was very little dressing to cover the top. I have no idea why they're busy they even had a party of 60 coming in it was truly disgusting there was four of us and not one felt it was any better than the store-bought Frozen seafoods. The calamari was the absolute worst of all we couldn't even make it out and it was so overcooked it was just awful. For spending $15 bucks I feel like I should get my money back. read more
