I live in New York City where you can get the best of the best and this is some of the best food I've ever had. I didn't remember to get photos because it was so delicious we just dove right in. A large group of us (9) went to Nana's close to 5ish on a Saturday and they gladly accommodated us. The server was very friendly, even offering to split our bill into 9 separate checks. Every single person loved their food. I got the chicken pot pie, mashed potatoes and gravy. We also shared the baked Brie. It was so incredibly flavorful and you could tell it was made on site. The Irish bread was dense but not too much so. A 20 oz beer was only $8 and they have a great selection. The only feedback I have would be that while the fish and chips tasted fresh and the breading was pretty good, it could be more flavorful. It needed quite a bit of salt. We got desserts to go and I imagine those will be incredible too! If I ever find myself back in the area, I'll definitely be back. read more

Came on at 11 AM on Wednesday. They had a large group of 8, 3 small groups of 2 and a single diner as soon as they opened. Took about 10 minutes to get things moving in a positive direction. We ordered Nana'a Meatloaf, Traditional Irish Breakfast and Chocolate Brandy Bread Pudding. Glad I didn't order the breakfast however my husband liked it very much. Nana's Meatloaf was wonderful (however not hot enough, just lukewarm). Bread pudding again was just lukewarm. The ambiance was very nice and what you like Ireland dining would be like. Busy little spot with outdoor seating when the weather is nice and cozy indoor when it's not. If you like privacy away from people this is not your spit. But worth it if you can muster up your being in close proximity to others powers. Service was fast and kind. The food...I was not prepared for how amazing the Guinness meat pie was. I ate the whole thing and would have taken some to go had they been open early enough the next day (they make a take out version in in little throw away baking dishes you can make at home!). Early dinner on the patio was Donegal shrimp, Sheppard's pie and an entree salad. Probably our sixth time here and still pretty consistent with attentive service. Beer battered shrimp with Nancy sauce, like a 1000 island with some Sriracha, good starter. Sheppard's pie takes 20 minutes and comes out smoking hot. We added the $1 up charge cheese (should come as original equipment). The pie is enough for two and had quality ground beef, potatoes, peas,corn and a silky gravy, mashed potatoes really good. Corn bread is spot on. Entree salad with homemade blue cheese(ordered a 2nd cup for .75)dressing had, onion, cucumber, tomatoes , boiled egg, cheese. Plenty to share and was fresh stuff. Had to update the review for the Reuben I just had. Very impressed. Generous portion of thick cut corned beef. The real star for me was the cabbage! Braised cabbage that melted in the mouth, so much better for me than the fermented sharp, sour flavor of sauerkraut. read more

Nana's is a pretty big restaurant with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Food- We got the Galway Cod au tu gratin and Shepherds pie. Both were pretty good. I would give the food 3.5-4 stars. There wasn't a lot of Cod fish (see pic). It was like 4 small pieces over the mashed potatoes. The sauce was yummy. The Shepherds pie is crusted with potatoes and not the flaky crust that they use for the chicken pot pie. The filling was tasty and we got a side of their homemade hot sauce, which is packed with flavor. Bread pudding and their in house whip cream 3.5 The restaurant is a bit older. This used to be a great place for a Ruben sandwich but not this time. The meat was not sliced thin. Meat were sliced in big chunks and too many grisly pieces. The cabbage was also in big chunky pieces that slid off. Best part of meal was the server whom seemed to be taking care of the entire restaurant. Nana's is on of my favorite restaurants anywhere. They have the best Irish soda bread I have ever had, hands-down. The mushroom gravy is amazing also, like nowhere else. I have been to a LOT of pubs around the world and this is the best anywhere. It gets really busy so be sure to give yourself lots of time to enjoy the atmosphere. My husband gets the ruben and donegal shrimp also the taiuges delight, all are consistant and delicious. My daughter gets the spicy chicken tenders. Lovely kid friendly pub with awesome Irish dishes. The waiter was great! He just shrugged his shoulders said kids and going to be kids when our toddler went goblin mode. I always wanted to try scotch eggs and was not disappointed. Crunchy, soft, addicting. The Guinness pie was full of gravy, veggies, and meat. It appeared as if it should have been a heavy dish but it somehow wasn't. Pie crust was flakey as - f. The corned beef was tender. I could have it every Sunday. I personally didn't love the carrots or cabbage that came with it. I can't describe the taste other than being strange. We ended with the bread pudding. Came in for a quick pint and a bite while visiting from elsewhere. Irish beer always tastes good. The Tiegans delight was pretty tasty. Gravy was a little chunky. The real star was the soda bread - move over sourdough! Bar was pretty busy but the service was still good. Bar itself is clean and had a great selection of liquor. Me and my boyfriend came here 2 years ago and remembered it for having the worst bartender we have ever had. It was so bad we found it humorous. She straight up ignored us and prioritized her what I am assuming, regulars. And was so passive aggressive, rude and judgy and made us feel like we were bothering her. So when we came back last week to visit Newport we decided to give it try and see if the bartender was there and if she'd be just as bad... and let me tell you she was. This is more for myself but whenever I go I ask myself "have I tried the Reuben" now I have evidence and the answer for myself. The meat is delicious but a little dry. The cabbage is not too acidic so doesn't offend too much like sauerkraut in my opinion. I like the honey mustard instead of grain mustard. Call me a big child but I'm not a fan of mustard in general. The weather was gorgeous Saturday afternoon, and Nana's patio seating was too inviting to pass up. The main draw for me was the Guinness on tap, and the 20 oz. pint glass definitely hit the spot. For food, I ordered the Steak & Guinness pie, which had a flaky pastry top, with a very beefy gravy and chunks of steak. Overall it was very good, although some of the steak chunks did end up overcooked. I tried my wife's Galway Cod dish, and really wish I would have gone with that. The fish was perfectly white and tender, and was served with a tasty sauce. The service was fine, although at times a little too "extra" for my liking. Sitting outdoors in the beautiful sunshine really made the experience for us, so I'll give Nana's a solid 4 stars. read more

Tonight I tried Nana's Irish Pub. It had great reviews and claimed to have Irish cuisine. I was not disappointed. I've eaten in quite a few places on the west coast that claim to serve Irish food and I have always been unsatisfied with the authenticity. So I was very surprised and impressed with the food served at Nana's. My experience started with the ambiance. It truly had the feel of a real Irish Pub. This was followed by the hospitality. Our server was amazing. She had great menu suggestions for the people who were eating with us. They have eaten a wide variety of Irish food. She made an excellent selection as to the Irish beer that would best suit my palate. They have several Irish beers on tap. I chose the Smithwicks Red Ale. It was delicious and very enjoyable. Now for the food. Many years ago I enjoyed Steak & Stout Pie in a Dublin Ireland pub. It was really good. I've had it in several locations here back home but it just wasn't the same. So when I spotted the Steak & Guinness pie it peaked my interest and I ordered it. Well I definitely was not disappointed. More so it was like reliving an old pleasant memory. The Steak & Guinness pie was spot on. Every bit as enjoyable as the one I tried in Dublin. I very highly recommend trying this establishment if you're traveling to or through Newport. We wound up at Nana's pub because half of our party didn't eat seafood. I could not have been pleased! Everyone was able to order what they wanted and everything i tasted was really delicious! Mom had the chicken pot pie, i enjoyed the Cod au Gratin. Hubs opted for a salad and the birthday boy feasted on the meatloaf! Nana's soda bread is out of this world!! THE BEST i've ever had! The chocolate bread pudding was so delectable and yummy!! i'm not a huge fan of chocolate desserts sometimes - because they are heavy and/or dry. This was neither! this was the perfect chocolatety end to a fantastic meal! Service was friendly and attentive. We were there for a late lunch, so it wasn't too busy or too loud! Just do it! This place has charm, great service and very yummy food! We loved our stroll in the neighborhood as well! The food was so good we intended on leaving with leftovers, but instead we rolled out of there lol. The bartender made us an orange ginger mule drink that was super tasty too! We ordered the Ruben, steak pie, and the baked Brie. The Ruben had cabbage instead of sauerkraut which was very yummy. The corned beef was cooked perfectly and there was plenty in the sandwich.
