Excellent food, service, really whole experience great. Holiday weekend, late morning, wait time less than 10 minutes. The ambience was great too as we already saw things we wanted to buy from bakery too. My family and I went here for a late lunch. It wasn't too crowded. Service was a bit spotty. We got the feeling they were anxious for us to finish and go. They are part bakery and part restaurant. There were a number of choices. I had the patty melt-hadn't had one in a really long time and it was pretty good. The drink menu offered marionberry lemonade which I tried and really enjoyed. As you walk in, you gaze at a large display of pies, and other baked goods that are mouthwatering to look at. The restaurant was spotless, despite being very busy that day. We were seated quickly, and I noticed that the back of the seat dividers were extended higher. So, no issues with young kids hanging over their seats staring at you while you eat your food. Our waitress arrived quickly, and the coffee was served quickly. For those patrons using sugar, you have yellow, pink, blue, or refined sugar. For creamer, just the standard. For our taste, the coffee was weak, but we have been accused of drinking strong coffee. My wife ordered pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon. The bacon was cooked to perfection, with just the right firmness. This is always a hit/miss at restaurants. However, the pancakes were thin, and the syrup was runny for our preference. My breakfast, the mince scramble with ham and potatoes was well proportional, and cooked to perfection, not runny eggs or cooked too long. The shredded hash browns were crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. My rye toast looked homemade with thick slices and numerous choices for jam. I chose Marion Berry of course and was treated to additional jam upon request. As one looks over the breakfast selection menu, the egg options are limited. But the waffles, pancakes, and dessert selections are extensive. As this is a bakery restaurant, the breakfast bread selections are also abundant like the following, coffee cake, muffin (varieties), and every toast option including rye and sourdough. The dining experience is pleasant due to the cottage feel on the inside and the decorations including a rock fireplace. One could envision this place at a ski resort. The staff maintained their friendliness during our meal and refilled the coffee quickly. They had staff at times with water or a coffee pot refilling the customer's cups/glasses. This is a solid stop for comfort food if you are on the Oregon coast and in the area. We stopped here for lunch during our day trip out of Depoe Bay and it was just what we were looking for! The portions are really generous and their menu has something for everyone. Most of us got the lunch soup and 1/2 sandwich special and the clam chowder was AMAZING! I also recommend coming here hungry, because you will want room for dessert as their pie and cake menu from the bakery is extensive! It was hard to decide on just 1 slice, but the slice of German Chocolate Cake I had was rich, sweet and delicious. The rest of our group got pie and everyone was thrilled with their choices. The restaurant itself is very low key and has the feel of a true "ma and pa" owned diner. There are quirky decorations around the restaurant and the staff and ambiance are very inviting. Our server was very friendly and always quick whether to take our order, refill waters or check in on us. Overall a great little spot in Newport for some feel good food. read more

First time stopping in and definitely not my last. I tried the country steak with coffee cake as my side and it was 10/10. I'm usually iffy about restaurants chicken fried steak but it was really good. The blueberry coffee cake was amazingly perfect also. My niece got a pancake that she enjoyed. We were there on a Monday at 3:00 pm. The place was clean, the food was mediocre, and the waitress was horrible. I was absolutely shocked by the nasty, combative attitude she had. Never brought the drinks we ordred, never checked up on us, and then she told us we made a mess because we stacked our dirty plates to get them out of our way--no one ever came by to pick them up. Really good breakfast experience. We ordered a pick 3 (French toast, hash browns, 2 eggs) and the Chalet Breakfast. The food was all good and service was very friendly and attentive. While we definitely left full and satisfied, I was most impressed with what I saw. The place may be old-school and probably hasn't had any updating in a long time, but it seems to be maintained very well and looked sparkling clean. I actually glanced around at lights and art on the walls, and unlike many older restaurants Chalet appears to put a lot of effort into cleanliness, including dusting. Always appreciated!! The Newport Chalet is an excellent restaurant. It's nicely constructed, and always has a good seasonal touch. Staff are quick to greet you pleasantly. The food is well-prepared and delicious. There is music playing in the background, which is sometimes a little too loud, but generally just fine. The restaurant has a lot of delicious baked goods as well, especially their pies. We have made several visits to this restaurant over the past two years and it's always hit or miss. Nothing seems to be consistent except for the negatives. Service was mediocre. We were seated quickly and greeted by the server within minutes. With the exception of the pie it was disappointing The half sandwich was more bread than anything now, the lettuce leaf was bigger than the slice of turkey and the chowder was room temperature The cheese in my child's grilled cheese sandwich wasn't melted completely. I ordered a side of fries because I knew how very few fries came with his meal, which were about a handful. However, 6.50 for about 20 fries, if that, wasn't worth it. I had asked to speak with someone and nobody ever came to the table. After awhile I gave up on waiting and decided to pay and leave. The server stood over me as I paid with my credit card and signed. I came in here with my hubby and two sons. We were staying at an Airbnb for the weekend on Mother's Day. The service here was really fast, for how busy it was. The staff was really friendly. Our food was great, with big portions! I had the fish and chips. My husband tried a bite and said those were the best fish and chips he's ever had. Lincoln City is always beautiful. Went for breakfast and stayed for the baked goods and pastries. My partner and I came for breakfast because they served breakfast all day and there were lots of good reviews. When we came it was busy and we waited maybe 15 minutes for a table. They sat us in the back corner and we ordered the chalet breakfast, clam chowder, and country fried steak. My partner enjoyed the chalet breakfast - he got French toast, eggs and bacon. The French toast was good and the eggs and bacon were to his liking. The country fried steak was tender, however, the breading tasted like a McDonald's chicken nugget. Because it tasted like a chicken nugget I lost interest after a few bites. The hash browns were good although it was too sweet for me. My steak came with a coffee crumb cake, and that was absolutely delicious. We finished that before our breakfast came. The clam chowder was a no. I read a review about it being gelatinous and that was the best way to describe it. The texture of the soup made it more of a pudding than a soup and it had no flavor except it had a strong black pepper taste like they put too much. We ordered a cheesecake and the bourbon bread pudding as well. Both were good. Overall come for the baked goods. Breakfast is decent. Avoid the chowder. You can get better elsewhere on the coast. read more

I've been buying fresh scones from Chalet for 10 yrs. This summer when I bought them, they had reduced the size by half but kept the price the same as last summer. (Unless it's ice cream cake ) Well, we were camping nearby at Beverly Beach for his birthday, after we went out whale watching and grabbed lunch we swung on by Chalet to grab a pie to surprise him. This banana cream pie was so good we forgot to take pictures. We just dug right in! I managed to snap one pic of my plate and that's it. Poof the pie was gone in no time. What lacked in presentation was made up for in deliciousness! We made a bee line to the bakery when we drove past the huge sign advertising baked goods. It was difficult to narrow it down because they all were so tempting, but we finally settled on a slice of the Oregon cheesecake and marionberry pie. Both bursting with fruit flavor! The cheesecake had a slight upper hand: light, fruity and with a hazelnut crust that had chunks of hazelnut in it! The marionberry had a nice flaky crust with loads of sweet, condensed berries in it.
