Still a 5-star in my opinion. I will start by saying everything tasted good and the portions are more than adequate. I am stuffed. That said this was the "worst" plate I've had. I got French Toast and added a side of 2-eggs and a sausage patty. Eggs were slightly overcooked in that the yolk was starting to solidify on one. The sausage patty was tasty and had good spices without being over the top but it was slightly dry. I got the small size regular French toast made with their whole wheat bread. It was one thick slice cut into four points and had great flavor. The only downside was that only one point had soaked long enough to get that custard-like interior making the other points a bit on the dry chewy side. This is just nit picking but an honest opinion. They didn't have fries, must not have a fryer, but their German potatoes is something else, hash browns with sweet & green onion topped with Tillamook white cheese that I did not dare cover with my usual ketchup. WOW, this is the way a restaurant should be run! Have driven by several times and the parking lot is ALWAYS full and People waiting outside. We came in at 11 AM on a Tuesday, parking lot full and folks waiting outside. Gave them our name and told us 45 min, YIKES!! In less than 15 minutes we were in and in less than 15 min more we had our food... The table were CLEAN, not sticky, fully stocked with salt and pepper, jellies, napkins, silverware and condiments. Jorge, our server was one of the best servers anywhere and extremely attentive to all our wants and needs. We ordered coffee, ice tea, Chicken Fried Steak and with sausage gravy, eggs, hash browns and sour dough toast, Chorizo Scramble and two cinnamon rolls to take home. UPDATE, THE CINNAMON ROLLS WERE OUTSTANDING, very large!!!!!!! Everything came from the kitchen in no time, was hot and delicious. So much food with the Chicken Fried steak (so tender could cut it with a fork) had to take it home in a to go bag. We arrived at the restaurant at 11AM, waited, seated, ordered, ate and left at 12 noon. The cafe felt very typical homey diner and I thought it was very unique that they have/sell their own seasoning blend and ceramics. Clean and tidy. German Potatoes 5/5 I ordered a HALF order of German potatoes with an egg and bacon. And oh my goodness, this was so much food. The dish arrived and stayed hot during the entire time I was eating. They really piled on the bacon and cheese and it balanced the potatoes well. I loved adding their seasoning salt to the potatoes! Biscuits and Gravy 5/5 We ordered a full order and originally thought it would only be two biscuits. So imagine our surprised when SIX GIANT fluffy biscuits smothered in gravy came out! Otis Cafe is hands down the best brunch spot in Lincoln City. It does get busy really fast, but it's absolutely worth the wait. Thankfully, we arrived at the perfect time and didn't have to wait long at all. Our order was taken shortly after we were seated, and compared to others around us, our food came out pretty quickly. The service was great and efficient. We ordered the chicken fried steak with sausage gravy, sunny-side-up eggs, molasses bread, and subbed the hash browns for their famous German potatoes. The chicken fried steak was seasoned to perfection--crispy on the outside while still juicy on the inside. The sausage gravy was very flavorful; you truly don't need to season this dish at all. The German potatoes are essentially Tillamook cheese with onions and green onions on top. I'm not usually a big cheese fan, so it was a bit much for me personally, but we wanted to try it--and I did love the onions mixed in. We also shared one sourdough pancake, which surprisingly was so yummy and just the right size for sharing. Everything was super flavorful, the portions were huge (even sharing, we couldn't finish everything), and the prices were very reasonable--around $31 total for all of this. We went and paid for our breakfast and my wife brought up the concern to the cashier who was a little condesending over the discussion about not getting biscuits . She came across as though it was not the servers mistake it was ours. She did nothing to correct it by offering some resolution to make our experience better. We did not spend much but it was the attention to the customer interaction that could have been so much better. We looked at other tables and the food looks good. The cost is not too bad. What could have been done better is the waitress could have explained if you order this it only comes with this item so if you want another option here is xyz . Yeah we missed it on the menu that it is either biscuits and gravy or gravy and hash browns which is what we got. Would I recommend yes will I go back no. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the quantities were astounding!! I didn't have to eat anything else all day long. I also ordered a small bottle of their seasoning salt while I was there. Was there when they had a banana bread French toast and had that one trip which was amazing and then split the cinnamon roll French toast and banana bread French toast the second time. We went on a Thursday and then Saturday. The serving size of the banana bread French toast was larger on the weekday versus the weekend was the only difference. TL;DR: Generous proportions. Breakfast all day. Bakery items for sale. Something I found interesting -- this diner does not have french fries. You could mug someone with the Pumpkin Loaf -- it's tasty too. Bread is made in house. Parking: small private lot. Atmosphere: fast paced small diner. Service: wait to be seated, menu and check brought to the table, you will be watered. You can purchase bakery items at the counter next to the entrance/exit. Kid Friendliness: No kids menu. Booster seats available. Kids will be given a paper cup with a lid and straw. Menu: No pictures for the visually stimulated but descriptions are sufficient enough. Your server will tell you the daily specials and the specials are also written on a white board above the kitchen in case you forget -- it's a handful of items. Apple-baked Ham and White Cheddar: I chose the grilled option. The cheese was nicely melted and the bread was satisfyingly thick and soft with a slight crispy outer layer. The ham on the other hand was a bit on the dry and chewy side in my opinion and I wasn't too impressed with the flavor -- it just tasted like salted meat. The proportion of meat was nice but the quality just wasn't there. Basic Burger: Burger comes deconstructed (onions, pickle, tomato, shredded lettuce on the side). Though the presentation was nice, I found it slightly annoying when trying to pick up all the shredded lettuce to place into my burger. Everything looked and tasted fresh though. Mayo was already on the bun, no ketchup but ketchup is at the table. I chose the potato chips as the side -- they are crinkle cut, not overly salted, and crunchy but pretty average. Beef Pot and Barley Soup: thick and hearty. Tastes almost like a chicken pot pie but beef flavored and in soup form, especially with the oyster crackers. It is very filling by itself. The only complaint I have is that it wasn't as hot as I expected a soup to be. I expect soup to be pipping hot off the stove where you have to use your birthday candle blowing breath to cool down before a bite and not just hot enough to eat right off the bat. If soup is not hot enough it, makes me think that it was either sitting out too long or was microwaved. Pumpkin Bread: I personally like pumpkin bread so I thought I'd take home a loaf to try out. This thing is DENSE. I was so surprised at how heavy the loaf was when I picked it up -- you could mug someone with this thing, haha! It isn't overly sweet and has just enough moisture content. Very satisfying to have with a cup of joe. Snickerdoodle Cookie: Large cookie that isn't too crumbly and has an even moisture content. Not overly sweet and is great for that tiny sweet tooth craving you may or may not have but you probably want to have. ;) Coffee Cake: was sold out before we even sat down for lunch so I presume it must be good.
