We stopped in for dessert and a round of drinks after dinner. We look forward to coming back again to try the fantastic looking menu next time we are in town. The delicious desserts and tasty drinks were a great finish to our Mother's Day evening. We enjoyed the HUGE Mile high mud pie and the warm brownie sundae. Skip this place. Anyone that charges $8 for a scoop of ice cream..... not cool. But let's get real, some times that is where you get great food, or great service, etc. We stopped in years ago on recommendation from someone for a great ribeye steak. It was also hitting on the lunch hour on a Sunday, so we decided to stop. We had fast, and some of the friendliest service. My guy ordered their homemade hash, while I went with the prime rib. Well his breakfast was delicious, mine was good. I had Philly cheese steak soup with my meal that was phenomenal. I would probably not order the prime rib again. It was pretty thin, and wasn't the best I have had, but it wasn't terrible. I would just opt to order something else on the menu. On vacay I always love a local spot...being so close to the beach, in a beach town I'm thinking seafood! Szabo's Steakhouse and seafood was the recommendation, so that's what we do. The look outside resembles a steakhouse, rustic, wooden, old signs. I don't smell steak though, weird. First, get the masks for safety, oh wait, ppl are walking in and out without mask, weird. Staff has masks on so we're good right!? Cmon let's go Being seated right away is cool especially on a busy weekend and every restaurant up the coast has a 30-160 minute wait...wait that's weird too... The drywall dividers between our table and the bar are really creative, and the bathroom doesn't have any paper towels...but we're okay let's get an appetizer. Our waitress is super nice and has water for us in to-go paper Pepsi cups, safety I get it lol. Cajun Buffalo Wings & tots are ordered, and delivered timely. Tots were superb and wings are okay. At a local spot you have to ask for a entree recommendation-right!? The waitress says The Seafood Pasta Fettuccine is the best, and we also ordered the Fresh Cod & Chips. Key word Fresh! Timely delivery again, our waitress is really doing well considering being hounded by what seems to be the manager, barking consistent sarcasm, and complaints about answering the phone, and cleaning every table. Greeting walk ins with a good ole yell of, reservation or walk in? The Pasta should have sautéed Salmon, Halibut, shrimp, and scallops. I got 2 little shrimp tail on, some halibut, and what could be a crab leg, or oddly shaped salmon...the shallot tossed cream sauce is blan but nothing some red pepper flakes and black pepper can't fix lol. The seafood was over cooked which was disappointing but I ate it. Fresh Cod & Chips, we're definitely fresh from the freezer. Underneath the crispy breading was a mushy, watery fish. The chips were the best part of this meal. If it wasn't for us starving and the waitress we would've left. Szabo's is not a steakhouse, it's a "sport bar" that serves steak and seafood. Visited on a Saturday evening in January. Restaurant was busy but we were able to get a table right away. Staff was friendly and helpful. Stopped by on a Sunday evening for dinner during our stay in Newport. We weren't greeted with "hello", rather "reservation or walk-in?". I have to admit it was a bit off-putting. I might suggest they friendly it up a bit. We were quickly seated in this almost full sports bar. Hubby ordered a martini that was near perfection. The halibut fish & chips was delicious, and me Caesar salad was about the best I've ever had. A woman who seemed to be a manager was training a young man, and she really wasn't speaking to him very nicely. She was sharp and critical of him, and she was also impatient and critical of the other servers. I know everyone has a different management style, but if yours is to be annoyed, critical and reprimanding, perhaps you should rethink doing it within earshot and view of customers. It was overall a great experience - food, ambiance and service - I just felt bad for the staff. This was our first time to Newport, and this was the first restaurant that we went to, and there was no disappointment. We were served drinks quickly, which was great, as this place was busy. I started with clam chowder, and I ordered the crab Alfredo, and my husband ordered the seafood pasta fettuccine. The clam chowder was great. Good amount of clams, and the broth was tasty. Both pastas had the same sauce, just different seafood, and it is scrumptious! The sauce is creamy with mushrooms and green onions. The portions are huge!!! The pasta was perfectly cooked, and the seafood was plentiful. The crab was juicy and sweet, and I still regret not taking the leftovers with us - that would have been a delicious late night meal. There are specials every night of the week, and the prices are decent even without the specials. There are TVs that are viewable from any seat for game watching.
