Salty chowder bowl
Deb K.

We waited about ten minutes for a menu and the owner and server to decide who would serve us??? Food was so so. Chowder was salty and onion rings were not crisp and didn't have any flavor to them. What was nice was the chowder was hot and it was chilly out. What disturbed me the most was watching the female server scoop the salad onto a plate with her bare hands, wipe them on her jeans, continue to serve others, scratch her arm a few times, and not once wash her hands! They are busy because there's not much choice out here. But I'd avoid if you can wait for a healthier and tastier environment.

This place hasn't changed in about 30 years! I do have to say, they still have the best clam chowder on the coast. I had the bowl and salad combo which was just right for lunchtime. The chowder had a film on top as if it had been sitting a while. It was good though. You could taste the freshness of the clams. Service was to be expected as it is no longer tourist season. There were only two other guests there but the thing that stuck out about the ambiance was the TV in the background. I wouldn't normally mention it but it just stood out a little. Had the volume been lower or muted, it would have been better. Props for keeping the same decor up, and the trains, as I remember from when I was a kid. The Chowder Bowl is an institution of Depoe Bay.

I just noticed two additional fees on my receipt from the Chowder Bowl. 7% for what, credit card processing? That's outrageous.

We came in during the lunch rush. The restaurant was slammed, and they appeared short staffed. I think people were getting irritated. Aaron and Sierra were working the floor. Both of them moved around and stayed upbeat and positive. I commend both of them for their attitudes and customer service. The food was good and the restaurant was clean. It is a nice meal while in Depoe Bay.

Chowder was decent. Bread bowl was pretty good, bread was kinda sweet. Our server didn't have the best attitude and the place was pretty empty.

Good service @ Chowder Bowl in Depoe Bay, OR. We stopped here for drinks after whale watching. There was a cute model train on a track that went around the restaurant. Bartender was friendly and courteous. He served us promptly and helped other patrons get seated, and also cash out their bill.

I won't be back. Chowder was bland and the bread was stale. Service ....... I'll leave it at that!

We came in with an hour left to be open and the worker was not happy that we were there, the food was the worst I have had in 10 years!

After a day of clamming, shopping, and site-seeing, we were hungry! My wife found this place…read moreonline, and was intrigued by the whale-watching aspect. The menu was chock full of heavy hitters, including the oyster sandwich, clam chowder, and beer! Service was friendly, but the food took about 35 minutes, thus the 4 star. Ambiance was chill, and the ability to potentially see a whale surface was awesome.

Appearance - We recommend sitting near the window and you'll get the view of the World's smallest harbor! If you're lucky, like us, maybe you'll get to see a baby sea lion. Taste - I'm a sucker for a delicious grilled cheese. I am quite picky about the cheese, bread, how crispy it is and what not. This one hit the spot! I specifically liked the seasoning (I believe it was parsley) they added to the bread. The tomato soup on the other hand was not my favorite, I tend to prefer more of a tomato bisque because it's creamier. Their's tasted more like vegetable soup. My husband ordered the chicken tender basket and they were nothing to write home about. They were very bready and for 4 pieces it was $17! That felt quite pricey considering it was from the kids menu... yes I know we are adults ordering off the kids menu, but we were just craving some homey meals when traveling on the road. Let me tell you about the popcorn shrimp though.... MMM I liked em! A lot! I'm used to having popcorn shrimp with the tiny, tiny shrimp but I enjoyed this switch up. It included a flavorful chili-lime aioli to dip in as well!

Came in to try the chowder and also got the Alfredo, fried zucchini and Bloody Mary…read more All great! Kids said it was easily the best Alfredo they'd had so I had to snag a bit and I'll be darned it's it wasn't some of the best! The zucchini breading what's great / light beer batter style. And bloody Mary's - yes please! I had two! Much more on the tomato than spicy side. Chowder was good, but we were happy with all the other choices too. When we walked in, we weren't impressed, seemed dirty and smelled funky. Bathrooms were off putting, but Dir to reviews we decided to stay and glad we did. Service was nice and fast too!

The good: -Fried zucchini was amazing, the batter was so…read moregood it makes me want to go back and try the fish and chips. - the sourdough bread bowl levels up the Chowder. The chowder is good on its own but the bread bowl makes it really good. - the fries that came with the burger were good. Steak fries and plentiful, really enjoyed them. The bad: - The burger just wasn't great. Understood that this isn't a burger joint but if you offer it, it needs to be good. Also, shredded pepper jack instead of sliced cheese is strange. - Cleanliness is a factor. The same guy bussing tables and wiping up is setting the table and delivering water / food to tables. In the same gloves. That he doesn't change, we had to ask for clean glasses as there was "stuff" on the first few we got. So? Decent food. Stick to the seafood. Watch for cleanliness.

This place is brand new looking inside and out and has comfortable diner style booths and tables as well as a bar area. We were here for breakfast and it's an interesting menu! Lots of seafood options and in my life it's not so common to have seafood for breakfast, so of course I'm gonna try it. I had the fisherman's skillet which comes with cod and scallops and shrimp over potatoes and hollandaise sauce and a couple over easy eggs. This was a bit different for me but it absolutely works amazing together. The ingredients are all fresh and rich in flavor. Salt proportions for me were balanced and the heat for the meal was right off the burner so I'm happy with that. I'm very pleased with this place for breakfast and will most definitely give it a lunch attempt at some point. Very good and very nice seafood themed menu that complements going into adventure. I love a key that tempts you to try something new and this menu does it for me! There's directions you can go like sweet savory carb protein fish meat etc and in each direction I'm seeing something that looks fun to try or downright delicious. Service was friendly and efficient. I am though wondering why more aren't here because this is on the 101 and the food is great along with service and the dining room and facilities.
