This is a great spot for breakfast or lunch. Our server was very cheerful, helpful, and very attentive. The food was great and I really liked sitting outside and enjoying some sun. I had the chicken fried steak and what I really appreciated was it wasn't as big as my plate and an enormous portion that I couldn't finish. It was the perfect size crispy on the outside and the gravy is absolutely scrumptious And after you need to go to the great farm stand and pick up some local produce and other food products. Twice here, I strongly recommend this place breakfast is in point! Mad props to the cooks, everything always hot! First time I came the nice server lady hooked me up with extra jelly & service was on point! First time I ordered the country fried stale, comes with potatoes & eggs with an English muffin with melted butter. Everything on steroids!! Second time ordered the omelet your choice of toppings with cheese, with potatoes & English muffin. Second time I was asked if I wanted a refill & but the persons next to us did plenty of times. Not sure what happen?? Other than that food is righteous, I think she forgot we tip good. Definitely coming back & do recommend! We stayed at an RV park just a mile down the road from Café 22 West. We ended up eating there four times. Each time got better and better so we refused to take a chance on any other restaurant in Salem. Their breakfast was incredible and their lunches are incredible. Even the light eaters menu was great. I had a half sandwich of a Reuben. So much meat on delicious dark deli rye bread was incredible! They also had the most huge incredible scones that we split. The flavor we chose had thick frosting on it because it was a carrot cake scone. Imagine that! The two best things ever combined and it was worth every penny. Next time we go to Salem, we are planning our trip around Café 22! read more

Really glad I stopped after driving by so many times. Very cozy, the ladies were full of smiles from the moment I walked in and until I left. Very attentive as well. I actually knew what I wanted before I arrived because I had viewed it online. The club sandwich was exactly what I wanted. I stopped in on a busy Monday, a little before noon. The dining area was small, and fairly full, but there was a table available right away. Service was very friendly, quick and attentive. I never had to ask for a refill on my drink. I went with the Hot Pastrami Reuben with potato salad as the side. The sandwich came out piping hot! That sandwich, at first appearances, looked a little haphazardly assembled, with the meat unevenly distributed between the bread, and the sauerkraut falling out. The first bite more than made up for this. The pastrami was rich and smoky, and smothered in melted swiss. The sauerkraut was a tangy counterpoint, and the Thousand Island dressing went well with both. The meat really stood out here, with a complex and satisfying taste that was unusually delicious! The potato salad was rich and creamy, and the potatoes were cooked nicely. I didn't check out the adjoining fruit stand this time, but next time I'm here, I definitely will. I've eaten here several times, and the food and service are good. You won't be disappointed. I had a negative experience this week, though. We took our dogs with us to eat on the patio, as we've done in the past. Our dogs are exceptionally well trained, and sit quietly underneath the table while we eat. This time, however, the hostess told us dogs aren't allowed on the patio due to Oregon state law not allowing them. Now, we take the dogs with us all the time, and I've never heard anyone else say this. In fact, Oregon law specifically allows dogs in outdoor seating areas. It would have been one thing for the hostess to say it's the cafe's policy not to allow dogs. That would have been very reasonable, and we would have taken our dogs home and returned without them. However, instead, we were lied to, and told it was illegal for them to allow us to sit with the dogs. This made me angry, and we simply left and went to a different restaurant. read more

Unacceptable behavior as a business owner to both the fruit stand & the Cafe 22 I'd been a loyal customer to this local fruit stand place for a long years until today everything has been changed. I would NEVER go back again and I will tell my friends and families as well, I would let them know because the owner guy told me "GO AWAY & DON'T EVER COME BACK!" more than once in front of other customers. Could you believe that?! almost wonder is that because I'm an Asian woman who could be discriminated easily - this is not acceptable behavior!! I ordered a burger to go from the cafe 22 (next door and got a receipt) then I went into the fruit stand. I grabbed a box of peach, went to the cash register. This owner guy served me ( I found this info out later). I told him I would like to have a milkshake, too. He wrote it down and told me "a small size of the milkshake?" I said, "no, I want a large size please" as I ALWAYS only purchased a large size from this place. he used calculator and told me total $18.45. I gave him a $20 bill then he gave me $1.55 changes but with NO receipt, I did not pay attention that he was charging me a small size of the milkshake. A few minutes later. I got a milkshake, It was a small size. so I told the lady who handed it to me. I said, "I ordered a large size." she led me to the cash register, again to the guy who made this order. He said, "you ordered a small size," I answered, "no, I ordered a large size". (Frankly in my mind, he decided a small size for me, but I wanted a large size to begin with and had never changed my mind). each of us repeat several times of what we believe should be right; then, he told me " You are rude; go away. Don't ever come back." "REALLY? THIS IS HOW YOU TREAT YOUR CUSTOMER INSTEAD TO MAKE IT RIGHT DUE TO YOUR MISTAKE?" I looked at his face and questioned his behavior. He repeat again, asked me to "go away and Don't ever come back"... I told him I would never come back again, but I will make sure to leave you a truthful feedback as what I have experienced today. Very soon I found out he was actually this business owner including the cafe 22 restaurant. I also learned who is his son and daughter. Fairly, they both are very nice people no more words - clearly I am not going back to this place ever again. hopefully other customers won't have the same awful experience as what happened to me. That is not acceptable behavior!!! Lastly, I'm still questioning. Why didn't he give me a receipt for what I purchased?! I am an accountant. Just like a lot of folks that passed by this place on Highway 22, we swung in for a bite to eat. The place is super nostalgic. A lot of old metal plaques With soda and gas logos. Super old gas pumps Wonderful farm market to buy fresh fruit, veggies, and canned products. Our food was really good. My daughter had chicken fingers and french fries. The chicken was really crispy and the coding tasty. I had the pastrami Reuben. This is some of the best pastrami I have had in so long. Tender juicy delicious. It was grilled nicely on dark Ryebread, with Swiss cheese and of course sauerkraut. Plenty of thousand Island sauce on it. Steaming hot and multi. I loved it. I opted for grandma's potato salad as my side. This was not a mistake. Made old fashion way with a kick of dill. Really good. The service was outstanding. Tried this place for the first time today. Very busy little place, waited about 15-20 minutes to be seated, so I thought 'It must be amazing food!' I have to say Salem Eats 2.0 has overhyped this place. The staff was very friendly, but the breakfast food was not very flavorful plus, I am not a fan of country fries for breakfast. The jam was delicious and their farm store was well worth the trip. May go back for lunch or dinner, but there are MUCH better breakfasts to be had, in and around Salem. read more

Weird, I posted this a year ago but apparently didn't push play. It's a roadside BBQ/American Diner where the cook obviously lives food. Without exception it's been a notch more than I expected and the service is swift, pleasant, and attentive. I didn't try the bathroom but the crinkle fries were HOT, only about 1/5 morsels, and perfectly and lightly fried. The onion rings were freshly hand battered and again perfect. I had a Reuben with more then expected pastrami that was juicy even though thinly sliced. An abundance of melted cheese and just the right amount of kraut and thousand island to make it perfectly over the edge into sloppy town. It was so good I didn't even think about complaining if the bread was swirled rye or the real thing! Our table also had the rib eye. I know I'm overly perfectifying this review so I'll say the texture and flavor was perfect but I'd prefer a thicker Hard to imagine how to make anything better--maybe free champagne? We have been hear at leadt 2 dozen times and are generally happy with the service But today Aug 6th we arived at 8:45 with plenty of empty seats and when we were directed to a middle of the isle seats my wife requested a seat along the wall so we weren't in the pathway of everyone coming and going...the lady pointed us to our only options, 3 tables in the isle...we were basicaly herded into the isle seats....grant you the place was empty except for 2 or 3 guests....waitres seething us was a bit taken back that we asked for a spot 8 feet away from the high traffic seats we were directed to...Than as the place begane to get busy, the seats my wife had requested were filled up and we were stuck in the isle seats with the traffic flow....this and the waitresses short and quite rude attitude to us throughout the rest of the mill took away from the good tasting food that was served.... read more

First of all. I would agree with the food, but we found out that they need to be professional and learn some manner's. First we were to order to go and then go sit at picnic benches. When I went into pay my order came to $42.90 the lady said do you really need your ninty cents back. I replied yes I do. After eating we went in the market. My husband and grandson got a shake, then was looking around the gentleman yelled at them and told them to go and sit down at the picnic tables and there milkshake's would be bought to them. I guess your not suppose to look around. Oh forgot my husband ordered a salad told them what kind of dressing He never got his dressing after asking twice. We both had fish and chips. Same asked for tarter sause.. Never got it. So some people would say they probably were busy. Incorrect it was one other couple and us. In the fruit stand same us and an elder lady. I can understand no pets. Who ever owns this needs to do some training on manner's or it would last. They had one lady that started yesterday she was excellent customer service. Told us no, she can't do it due to table assignments for waiters. The next party was seated two minutes later where I had asked to be seated. That started badly. Waitress who served us was ok but not friendly. Food was ok but not good. Reuben had packed grocery meat and way too salty. This is not a glowing recommendation. Will never go back.
