I was heading back home to SoCal but wanted to grab a bite to eat before driving to PDX. Looked up places around the hotel I was staying at. Initially I had picked out another place but decided to stop here instead cause it was a bit closer. You can tell this is the place that's like "If you know, you know." People came in and everyone was on a first name basis. It was really pleasant to see! Now onto the food. Absolutely amazing! I got the hobo omelette with a side of biscuits and gravy. Hands down the best biscuits and gravy I've ever had! And the omelette was dang good too! It's a small place with not a lot of seating but it's definitely worth it to venture in if you're in the area. I wish there was one closer to me. Service was stellar. Stopped in here with my wife on a trip back to Portland from Eugene. This is a super small diner off of Lancaster Road...but the server (and I think owner?) was extremely friendly and a great server! I ordered the daily special with two blueberry pancakes, an egg and bacon...all for about $11 -- great deal. Wife had the bacon and cheese omelette. Food was very good...and blueberries were super fresh (guy said he gets them from the local farmers market)....I really ended up liking this place and we will stop here again! read more

The Ritz diner is a quaint, small diner. The staff are very friendly, kind and attentive, they are also very personable. The food was amazing, I have the biscuits and gravy. You definitely can tell it's all homemade they used fresh ingredients. Most of the dishes are reasonably priced. I would definitely be going there again when I'm in the area. read more

(love the name!) anyway got up and decided to have breakfast its Sunday and thought why not treat myself and remembered this place and said I have to give it a try after passing it so many times. So it's like really the old times in there nothing fancy just a neat old time vibe, must have a lot of regular customer because the waitress knew everbodys name that came in there.lol.They have a little counter were I sat and ordered a senior Denver Omelette. I've lived in the salem and immediate area for years. I finally pulled the trigger and tried the ritz. Mind you, this is a very small place, old but clean none the less! Wait staff are friendly and attentive. I went for my go to of CFS&E. Eggs were done perfectly the way I ordered. The country fried steak was laque luster by its self with little seasoning in the breadding, but with the thick rick country gravy it was good, and alot of it. I ended up taking half my order home. I was today's old when I learned that The RItz closed and I couldn't be more bummed. As one of the city's longest standing diners, it has been offering delicious and cheap breakfasts for as long as I've been alive. It has been one of the staples of the community, serving largely blue collar crowds while sitting in the middle of the seedy Four Corners neighborhood. This was still a family owned establishment until one of the former cooks took it over a decade ago to keep the place alive. 2020 has been a terrible year. This was the place that always had their recession special of ham and eggs (with hashbrowns + toast) with a drink for a few bucks. Fast forward to just before COVID hit, it had zoomed up to modern times: a measly $6.75 with the purchase of a drink. It is a killer deal and probably got more folks through the door than expected. The space was already small to begin with, but they managed to pack it up almost every morning. Their hash browns were perfection. Perfectly crispy, golden brown, and with just a hint of butter for that oily finish. Paired with eggs of any kind, it was the exact style that fueled my obsession that continues today. They served up a myriad of breakfast foods; I don't think I ever had a bad rendition of any single item. I could never finish a "full" order of their biscuits and gravy or pancakes. Even in defeat, I was more than happy to indulge in their variety. I was here not too long ago and noticed and they had just started using Square as a method of payment. I was thinking they were on the up and up but that's clearly before the pandemic wreaked havoc. Stopped in for a quick bite. Sunday morning, busy but not too busy. My wife and I seemed to be the only ones that didn't know anyone, everyone was so friendly and in a good mood. Staff and customers. Visiting Salem for our Godson's wedding and came here for breakfast Sunday morning. Teeny diner- 7 tables, 7 counter stools. We lucked out and got the one open table when we walked in. The lovely young woman server could not have been more sweet- super pleasant and extremely efficient. A truly local hangout- I think the server knew everyone but us by name. Breakfast was delicious- and huge portions!! I am a sucker for biscuits and gravy and ordered the "half order"- two ginormous, light biscuits with an incredible amount of oh-so-good gravy! This is "THE" quintessential hole in the wall breakfast go to spot. First time here, I got the basic breakfast. I couldn't eat it all! Eggs cooked perfectly, tasty hash browns, and I love that it's not a chain restaurant. The server was really nice. Being such a small place there I don't recommend bringing a large party. Additionally; there's only room for one cook, so I imagine there may be a little wait when they're busy. I'm fairly new to Salem and stumbled upon this jewel of a diner earlier this year. I loved the atmosphere right away. It's small, clean and has a good vibe when you walk in the door. I noticed the waitress knew most of the customers by name. She was friendly with everyone and you could tell she enjoyed serving her customers. I was able to see the cooks in action from my table. I ordered an omelette and it was delicious. The Ritz Diner has a really comfortable atmosphere. I decided to go back there a few weeks ago and ordered their breakfast special, "Pigs in a Blanket". It was amazing! The waitress told me that I could ask for it, again, the next time I came for breakfast, even if it wasn't a breakfast special that day. Ever since change of ownership this place has gone downhill, they will constantly post on Facebook in an eatery group for Salem about new specials, and you will see all the negative comments roll in, he never addresses one of them, the food isn't great like it used to be. Welcoming Staff. Fantastic chicken fried steak (and they are not stingy with the gravy). My step-mom said they made the best waffle she's ever had. Omelets are always satisfying and well made. They have tasty bone-in ham. Waitress knew my order by the 4th visit: Chicken fried steak, eggs over easy, sourdough bread, and OJ with the meal. They can get pretty busy in the late morning, but if you are an early bird like me, you hardly have to wait. They do to-go orders over the phone if you want.
