I've seen reviews that complain about how it's "dirty" here because there are dirty dishes stacked in walkway to the restroom. It's not like they're stacking these dishes in the bathroom or near tables to be used for dining. The vibe here is super pleasant. I love the airport theme with model planes hung about the dining area. There isn't a whole lot of seating, so it gets packed fast, even on a weekday like when I went with my family. There is plenty of parking, though, so no worries about that. The service is fantastic. They have friendly personalities and are attentive. You could tell they got to know their regulars. The food was delicious and plentiful. There were so many options to choose from that I was afraid I'd regret my selection. Having sampled around my table, I can say with confidence that probably everything here tastes great. The hash browns were crisp, and the omelets were cooked perfectly. I just had the best, most decadent, breakfast I've ever had. StarDuster Cafe is a small, nondescript blue building next to the Independence Airport. There are maybe ten tables inside, and all have a great view of airplanes right outside the window. There is outdoor seating, as well, but since we were there in the winter time, they were not in use. Service was very good. The staff was quick and attentive. We were there for brunch. My wife picked the Banana Foster Pancakes, and I ordered Peach Crisp Stuffed French Toast. The plates arrived, and both looked delicious. They both came with eggs and choice of meat (bacon, ham, or sausage). The banana foster pancakes were very good. Then, we tasted the peach french toast. OMG! They were amazing! I know what I'm ordering next time we go here. They were so good that we asked the staff to make sure they weren't just a seasonal special. read more

1st time here! Had to try and few staples I enjoy. Biscuits & Gravy & Cornbeef Hash (homemade) Gravy was different and good. It had what I can only think was small dough balls from biscuit batter but I never asked. Wasn't the best Gravy but was good. It gave me some ideas for maybe future breakfast at home. If you adore small town diners like I do, you'll love Starduster! It's a little spot off the runway in the town of Independence. Whether you're in the mood for breakfast or lunch, they've got a bit of everything on the menu, something for everyone in your party. Timing is everything, as they were pretty packed when I arrived with standing room only waiting, thought there's a bench outside. Time flies (pardon the pun) while you're waiting for your order and watching planes take off. I enjoyed a light omelet with hash browns while my companion had the brisket quesadilla, which was incredible! We resisted the cinnamon rolls as big as our heads, this time. Maybe next time I'll go for the homemade corned beef, or fluffy pancakes, or will I try their onions rings? The possibilities are endless. read more

An absolute must stop if you are visiting Independence. The starduster has delicious food and has a fun atmosphere. We stopped in here for breakfast on a Thursday morning. We really like the small diner field that this place had. It was very cozy and unique. TERRIBLE dining experience. Terrible service from the 1 and only waitstaff. FOOD was awful today, essence of meat in the biscuits and gravy. I actually didn't see any meat, but.... AND it tasted like onion powder, only onion powder. When I complained, she still charged us for everything. None of us will ever return there again. It's basic food and usually just ok. Not bad food and not good food just meh Lacks flavor though it's fresh ingredients. Chicken fried steak is not good. Hash browns are always mush. All of it is edible. If you don't want to cook then go for it. You will need salt, sauce and possibly need to cook your fluffy hash browns. read more

If they are packed I still typically get a seat pretty quick and nice to sit outside and watch the take offs and lands but when they are packed my only critique is that last time I went in our server didn't get to us or say anything for 10-15 mins. A resounding 5 stars for the starduster cafe! Holy wowza, was this breakfast amazing! I got the banana bread french toast meal and some coffee. Coffee was fresh and plentiful. The meal... Oh. My. Gosh. Never thought of making banana bread into french toast, and now my lift is changed forever. It was moist and flavorful with some soft bananas and some type of sauce on top. I was kinda specific about my bacon, I asked for the chewer side of crispy or chewy but I'd eat whatever came and it was perfect! My friend lives in town and recommended it (she came with her now-husband the morning of her wedding) and I see why! The view of the airport is so fun, too. The service was really excellent, they accommodated a large birthday party easily and handled an extremely rude customer with grace. read more

Greasy good ol' breakfast food- you got it! Their crispy chicken fried stale was very good. Hash browns are fresh. It's freshly cut in-house. Service was friendly, quick and efficient. Environment is mostly clean, the floors were sticky. We picked up a cinnamon roll to go. It was huge! However, it was disappointing!!! The frosting is basically cake frosting- yuck! While we've previously enjoyed the food at the Starduster, we were very disappointed that no staff were masked on our last visit. While some people are applauding this, it's very disheartening to see as COVID cases are on the rise. I imagine that it will have marked the last visit for our family as we are living with people at high risk.
