I went to Sybil's Omelets on May 12th, 2026 for breakfast with five longtime friends. I was severely disappointed! I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak for $19.00 and saw little value along with some strange takes on an old school breakfast. A chicken fried steak is made from a thin, tenderized beef cutlet which is fried up like a piece of chicken. What I was served was closer to a bad tasting Salisbury steak that had an unpleasant 'chemical' taste and was not made from a beef cutlet, but by something mixed in a bowl and formed into a mushy patty shape. I've had the good, the bad, and the ugly in chicken fried steaks over the last 50 years plus, but this was by far, the least enjoyable CFS of my life. I'm not grinding them needlessly, I mean this was HORRIBLE! I would have refused it, but was trying to share a nice meal with friends, one of which was flying home to Texas the next morning, and I didn't want to put a negative spin on our time together. As for the rest of the plate, it came with the strangest 'sausage' gravy that must have been made from a Dollar Tree gravy mix or something just as bad. No real sausage flavor, kind of translucent, no richness to it at all. Disappointing! The biscuit was also strange. It was more like a lump of dough that didn't look, taste or behave like a regular biscuit. It was as if it was made by someone who had never actually seen or tasted a biscuit. The hash browns were passable, but unremarkable. I liked the restaurant decorations, etc., but it is extremely noisy, and for six men in their sixties and seventies, conversation was difficult. I should also mention, they have the smallest restroom I have ever seen. I use a walker, and it would not fit through the outer door or into the restroom. Definitely not ADA compliant. I'm surprised they haven't been ordered to upgrade! So...last visit EVER to Sybil's. They are wildly out of touch with what their customers expect. I give them one star because 'zero' is not an option! read more

Where else can you go and have 110 omelet options? Sybill's delivers. Service is excellent and friendly, even though the restaurant is busy. Orders are taken quickly, and food is being served with little wait time. This restaurant is Salem's secret gem. Look at my menu photos. I got the 106 omelet. For those few with a hollow leg, get the 110 with the 6 egg option. The omelet was cooked to perfection. The hash browns were crispy on the outside and the right firmness texture on the inside without being mushy. I always get rye toast, and this met my expectations. The wife got the senior breakfast and chose 3 items. Coffee never got below 1/2 full before our server came back around offering a refill. This place rocks! The food was great and the service was excellent. I loved the decor, it felt so cozy and was the perfect way to start my day while away from home. This establishment has been here for as long as I can remember and possesses a PNW, Twin Peak-ish feel to it. Quite homey and inviting. The staff was very friendly and helpful, service was stellar! I've only had a couple of their dishes but all of them have been tasty and delicious. I don't think there is any dish that you could go wrong....well, not sure about their lunch menu but I'm sure the items offered are above average. The food was just great -- wheat toast wasn't store bought but seemed to be freshly cut bread, the ham slice was excellent and really enough for two people, the strawberries fresh, and the eggs perfectly done. Remember the days when going to a restaurant didn't cause anxiety? I admittedly have been missing in action lately, but after seeing the new patio go up recently, I knew I had to check out Sybil's. Their parking lot was indicative of the considerations made to safely accommodate customers, spacious and not too crowded. I stopped in to give my name and was given an option of indoors or out, and they took my phone number to call me when our (first available) table was ready. We didn't wait more than five minutes before being called, sat and introduced to our waitress. A chicken coop theme adorned the walls lending a down home country feel. Booths were modified with plexiglass partitions and open tables were amply spaced for comfort. Do yourself a favor and review your menu options in advance or you may be a while. They're known for their omelettes and skillet scrambles, but have your standard breakfast items available with gluten free options. My daughter was thrilled to learn that their gluten free toast could be made 'French', and was given the opportunity to return anything that wasn't cooked to her liking, since she had a but of difficulty explaining how she liked her egg cooked. I also appreciated that our server doubled back to check to see if there was a celiac concern since the grill was used to cook everything. Luckily, her intolerance isn't so severe that cross contamination poses a threat. As we sat back awaiting the arrival of breakfast, I observed the bustle around me.
