The Covered Bridge Restaurant was a pleasant experience all around. I was warmly greeted immediately, even though they were very busy. The menu has a nice variety of choices for breakfast and lunch and today I was there for breakfast. I loved that they always made sure my coffee was filled up and hot. I ordered their bacon and eggs, and the bacon was very thick! They eggs were fixed over medium as I requested and the toast came with homemade jam. The atmosphere was cozy, well lit and the clientele were obviously happy to be there. I will definitely come back with friends. read more

The service was absolutely awful. My group had a reservation and we were told upon arriving by the owner/manager that we could not be accommodated and then were given various reasons of why essentially we, other customers, and the holiday itself were to blame. They did not apologize and they very rudely referred to one of our handicapped members, saying we can't accommodate "that". Then half of our members went elsewhere and half stayed there. After being seated, the owner then stated to the servers that they should just quickly serve us and get us out of there. Our only member who communicated for our group was extremely kind and assertive throughout this whole process, and I'm very disappointed with how this establishment behaved. Great place for breakfast and bring the family. The food is delicious and breakfast is my favorite! We are local so we go regularly. The owner always says hello and the service is always excellent! FYI they have a small kitchen so sometimes it takes a minute so talk to your family and enjoy a nice small town atmosphere. Cute family restaurant with yummy menu. Stopped in on our way to summer camp drop off with kiddos and all walked away satisfied. Black & Blue burger was incredible and they are not joking around when they say they have good bacon. My sister's roast turkey, which I stole a bite of, also delicious! We had two orders of chicken strips and a tuna melt @ the kids table and the tuna, which I again stole a bite of, wonderful. I recommend for sure! read more

We went to visit family and I found this little place , it was hoping with people there was a line which makes me happy knowing people are wanting to dine here. Only waiting about 20 minutes. The ambiance was comfortable , diner feel. The food is little on the high price for what you are getting , I had a taco salad which I thought was really good . They fry the taco salad bowl when you order it and it comes out in this cute cast iron skillet. I had to get a plate because it would of been messy ;) My husband got bacon eggs toast , he was not impressed for the price . My mom got the featured meal which was a skillet that was not all that good it was $18 she thought would be a special price. Other daughter got a bacon burger she liked it and other daughter got the club sandwich which she enjoyed. They have delicious French fries remind me of Red Robin's and they are unlimited also. They have good ranch and their jams I would love to buy a jar really really good. Ice teas came out in cute cups. Glad we tried it but just way overpriced. Today my mom, husband and I went to the Covered Bridge Cafe for my birthday breakfast. We had read and heard so many great reviews including from my mom who had been there before with friends. As soon as we walked in the door, we noticed how cold it was in the restaurant. No biggie, we were seated and thought the cold would subside, but it didn't. We were absolutely freezing. My mom jokingly said something to one of the employees asking them if they were also cold and they said," yeah kind of." Now, keep in mind, it's been warm during the late afternoons here, but not at 10:30 in the morning. I see that all but 1 or 2 customers are elderly and they all have sweaters and jackets on. When we got our food, my mom asked the server if the air could be turned down and the server responded with,"no, my boss won't let us." I am all for the servers comfort since they're the ones doing all of the leg work but, this was crazy. While we were eating our food hoping to be distracted from the cold, I over heard other customers being asked if they were too cold and if they wanted to move to another seat. Apparently our comfort was not as important as the regulars. I had ordered the French toast, country potatoes and bacon. The first slice of the French toast was fairly descent but the two after that were so incredibly soggy and seemed to be undercooked. I would have told a server but we weren't asked how our food was until we were about done. I didn't want to interrupt any of the severs friendly conversations with the locals which seemed to be a priority over the outsiders. When we were finally asked if everything was ok, the server did offer to get me new French toast but I had eaten the very outer edges that weren't as undercooked along with my underwhelming country potatoes and very good bacon. She did remove the French toast from the bill. We waited outside, in the sun while my mom paid the bill where she once again said something about how cold it was in there and again was given the excuse of,"our boss won't let us turn it down." It had to have been 65° inside and the restaurant closes at 2pm, so I'm not sure why they needed to keep the temperature at the level of a morgue during the coolest part of the day. Also, with such quick responses with what seemed to be the go to answer, obviously we're not the only ones who have complained about this. We will never return to this restaurant as we did not feel welcome and the food was sub-par and made me feel nauseous after we ate. We drove from Salem to try this restaurant which was a waste of time, gasoline and money. read more

We were passing through Stayton and found this little gem of a cafe. Great menu options for breakfast and lunch. My husband and I shared the Country Breakfast. Our absolutely amazing waitress Destiny offered to have it split on two plates in the kitchen for us!! Portions are so large we were completely satisfied splitting a meal. Biscuits were soft and fresh. Gravy was on point and all ingredients tasted locally sourced. Customer service does still exist here and we will be back anytime we pass through the area!! Good food every time. No matter what we order, from burgers and fries to gravy and biscuits, this place never disappoints. The people working here are always friendly and helpful. I absolutely must post about our Friday night experience reaching the restaurant at 7:30 pm last night. This post had brought us in as returning from my chemo session in Salem. First off the special was all gone, that's to be expected arriving so late. Upon entering, was seated right away in a very busy evening. Got both menus, the regular and dinner one. I ordered the meatloaf, wife, prime rib and daughter stuffed potato. The only server we saw was the one that came to our table with a smile, cheerful greeting and extremely busy but gave us absolute attention. Wife wanted strawberry lemon aid and we both three orders of it, delicious. Watching the crowed enjoying a nice Friday dinner was like setting down with your family. Everyone enjoying conversation, fellowship great service and happy. Meals came and beyond expectations. Everything was delicious, hot, platted perfect and again, smiles from our server that stopped by every few moments to check on us. We ordered the chocolate cheese cake to go, both wife and daughter could not talking about how yummy and satisfying it was. Destiny was our server and she was absolutely amazing. Have seen many with a workload like she had that could not handle. She had the place moving and greeted everyone, provided exceptional service, and made the evening perfect for us. What a nice place to have lunch! The restaurant is very clean, friendly service and comfortable seating options. I ordered the All American Cheeseburger with steak fries and my husband had the roasted Turkey sandwich. Burger was very good but the steak fries were the star of the show! Wow - crispy on the outside and soft in the middle ( bottomless if you can eat that many)... I strongly recommend this little restaurant for lunch, we will be back for sure. read more

I love when I can update a review. I've been here dozens of times since my last review. It's one of my favorite places to go now. In fact I think I've been there every day this week so far! Everyone goes for the bacon. For real. The food is delicious. The employees are attentive and work hard! Sometimes there's a wait on a weekend, but they have those little pagers that reach almost all the way downtown, so feel free to take a stroll and check out the beautiful downtown in stayton while you wait (if you even have to wait.) Inside is a collection of art and photographs of covered bridges, which is fitting since Stayton is the gateway to the Covered bridge capital of the west! If you're wondering if there's more significance to the name than just the art on the walls make sure you check out pioneer park that's literally just a few blocks down the road. You'll see a gorgeous covered bridge that the Salem ditch runs under. When you fall in love with that, get in your car and drive the covered bridge tour in the country side around a neighboring town, Scio. They do takeout, indoor, and outdoor dining. Make sure you try the bacon. Country Breakfast is amazing too! So is the Clubhouse Sandwich. It's all so good. read more

We were told to wait outside for a table (there were several clear) to be ready when it was below 30 degrees outside. I thought i had misheard what was said and stood there waiting. The woman at then said in a gruff tone, "I told you to wait outside"! Ok, no problem. Went outside, got in the car and left. I have never had a good experience here, and it had been several years since i had been in. Guess some things never change. Don't waste your time if you like to eat at a place with friendly staff. Stopped at this little gem on our way to Bend from Silver Falls State Park. Wow! Delicious breakfast, good service and just right portions. Kids had the chocolate chip pancakes that came with the most delicious thick cut bacon. We shared the Stayton omelette with a fresh biscuit and gravy. The biscuit was so soft and fluffy and the gravy was the perfect pepper gravy. Highly recommend! read more

For the most part this place is great. Very friendly staff, great artwork on the walls, clean. The only thing I didn't like were all the flies on my food. Doing something as simple as buying venus fly traps, pitcher plants of something similar to deal with the flies would be a good idea plus it would add to the atmosphere. If it weren't for the dozen or so flies I would've given this place 5 stars. read more

This place is an institution and has been in business for as long as I can remember. I do a "covered bridge tour" every few years and of course stops in and near Stayton are always on the list. Breakfast here is nothing short of outstanding. Lunch is also pretty good. I don't recall ever having dinner here but it probably doesn't disappoint either. The food is consistently very good. Prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. The wait staff is always super and one gets the impression that the folks who work here are very long time employees. If you like "townie" cafes that unpretentiously cater to locals, out-of-towners and blue collar types who actually work for a living you're going to love this place! read more

The only downside to the Covered Bridge is they close at 2 PM and I am nocturnal and sometimes don't even get up until that time! That's not their fault though LOL! I looked over some of the existing reviews, and saw a number of four star reviews where the people seem over-the-top happy with their experience and food - I don't understand that! I also have never had rude or grumpy service from anyone here either... So my review is a resounding five stars! Quaint place to get a square breakfast if you're passing through on highway 22. Plenty of food, but for some reason they only give small cups of syrup. When eating pancakes it would be nice to get the "syrup jug" . Service was a little slow but otherwise good. In General a clean place. Give it a try! read more

We went there for breakfast this week because the last time we went the food and service was excellent. We ordered the special. When it came it was covered in cheese. When the waitress told us the special she did not say it had cheese. This would be an important thing to share for those that are dairy intolerant. I am not but do not like cheese. They never came back to see how the food was until we was ready to leave and then asked how our food was. We asked for a to go box and was brought to us fairly quickly. But then we waited and waited for our ticket. The owner was standing at the next table with apparently regulars and bragging about Food Network contacting them instead of taking care of the tables. Our waitress then proceeded to clear a table and seat new guests and took them their drinks and finally brought us our ticket. This was a total different experience than our first time here. Not sure that we want to make a return visit. Apparently return guests and people waiting to be seated are priority. Oh and they was not that busy for the time of day we were there. read more

When we got there we had to wait outside for around 20 minutes. No big deal. When we were seated it took about 30 minutes before our orders were even taken. The only good thing about this entire thing was the young boy who always made sure we had coffee and water. When the owner came to take our orders, one of the ladies in our group, who is vegetarian, kindly asked for the bacon that came with her meal to be put on a separate plate. The owner looked at her like she was stupid and rudely asks "why? What are you afraid of it touching?" Others in the group chimed in politely trying to explain that she doesn't eat meat and wants to have is seperate so she can share it with the others at the table. The owner then rudely says, "well it's not gonna be touching anything." And then when we tried to explain again that we just please would like it on a separate plate and she argued about how it wouldn't be contaminating the other items on the plate, then she goes "Nevermind! I'll figure it out!" We had noticed lots of other groups who had come in after us being served their food while ours was still no where to be found. After ordering, we waited like an hour and 30 minutes and were about to leave and then the owner returned to the table to tell us that she "forgot to submit the order to the kitchen" and put her hands on a lady at our tables shoulders and laughed while telling us we should've heard what she said to her workers, basically telling us she cussed her kitchen staff out about why our order wasn't ready and told them to drop everything to do ours first...even though it was her fault. When the food finally arrived, it was mediocre at best. The worst thing was an omlet that was like two inches thick of flavorless egg with a salad in the middle. The owner offered no discount for her mistake and the only time she was nice was when it came time for us to pay. Wont be coming back here again. read more
