We ordered a breakfast sandwich, eggs benedict, fish and chips, loaded potato soup, and mimosas. The mimosas are strong! The fish and chips were fresh and crispy. Came in around 830am and this little place was a little busy. Two people were working the tables and there was a steady stream of to go orders. Service was friendly and they were doing a great job. The eggs were tasty, and the bacon was nicely cooked. The pancakes had a nice tang from the buttermilk. Everything was tasty, and I thought four slices of bacon was generous. The syrup was good and I maybe could have used more butter with the pancakes, but that wasn't a deal-breaker. My water was kindly refilled. The optional lemon slice was a nice touch. I overheard people raving about the Apple Crisp French toast, and that will be the next thing I try here for breakfast. Often stop here for a brunch meal between Portland and Eugene. In the last we have really enjoyed our food and service...but on a very recent stop was very disappointed on the quality of the meal...maybe an off day for kitchen staff..not sure...but disappointing. Ordered the 55+ 2 egg omelette...which was solid. But the home fried potatoes that came with it were so hard and overcooked they were almost uneatable. And for the bread option I asked for an English muffin. In the past I have always received both halves of the muffin (in fact every restaurant I have ever dined at in my life always give you both sides of the muffin...but here they have me one half of and English muffin. Why? What is the savings from this...25 or 50 cents? Seems cheap and petty...really never seen a restaurant ever do this before. The menu is extensive with all the usual breakfast items: omelets, skillets, benedicts, and traditional options. I had the biscuits and gravy with bacon and eggs. The dish was nicely presented. The eggs were well prepared to my order (over medium) but the bacon was far beyond crisp (shattered when bit), the biscuits were dense and a bit rubbery, and the gravy was tasteless. My companion's breakfast potatoes were quite good - nicely browned and well seasoned. The coffee was drinkable and service kept it topped up. Pricing was about what I would expect. Overall, a mixed bag. I drove past two places I prefer on my way. I do not plan to return. read more

Ufortunately I do feel bad writing this review because I have heard a lot of hype for this spot. The service was good they brought out my dish relatively quick. If it is on a restaurant's menu, I will drop all other options to order it. My friends and coworkers have recommended me this place since I currently live in salem (originally lived in Portland and Las Vegas), so I thought I would give it a try. I do not know if the standards are different here, but this has to be one of the worst eggs Benedict's I've had. Although the texture of everything was right, the egg was runny like water and not like a proper poached egg where the yolk pours out like honey. The hollandaise sauce did not taste like I would have wanted to go back for more or even drink it (I usually crave all of the hollandaise sauce). It was not buttery, lemony, and there was almost no flavor. I had to add lemon juice at home. The biscuit and the meat were fine. The initial reaction to the service was a little off putting. But It ended up being fine. Just a little socially awkward perhaps. We got fried artichokes, the eggs Benedict and the chicken fried steak. They have a room with poker machines, and we expected it to be a grimy bar. But it was nice and clean. The fried artichokes were really yummy! They definitely used canned artichoke bottoms, but super tasty dipping sauce and breading. The eggs Benedict sadly had a over medium yolk. Just over cooked. No run on that egg. I can say the ham was great and the amount of hollandaise was perfect. The home fries were basic russet potatoes. I asked for them crispy. And they barely had any crisp. But, they still tasted good. The chicken fried steak was definitely not homemade. The eggs were cooked perfectly for this dish. The gravy was good. All in all they probably are a 3 star for me. But I'm giving them an extra star because it was clean, the food really was good, just not that elevated, and there really isn't a ton of options in Salem on a Monday morning.
