    Carrot flower
    Rachel N.

Our family favorite! We've been coming to Royal Thai Kitchen for the past 3 years. Lee knows my husband likes everything super spicy and he enjoys the Green Curry with chicken. Lee makes each carrot flower herself and even has a video on Facebook. I love the freshness of the food, especially the Fresh Ginger Stir Fry with tofu, it's loaded with flavor. The service is great probably because it's a small restaurant. Saturday night was busy so if you're planning for more than 6 be sure to make reservations.

I am really disappointed in this restaurant! I placed an order for food today close to $100 and when I went inside to pick up my order, I asked for a simple side of peanut sauce and was told that my food that I ordered doesn't come with peanut sauce and that they would have to charge me, even more money! It is a simple condiment and I have no idea why they would tell me that unless I paid I could not get the peanut sauce when the Thai restaurant right down the road next to the dollar tree (Lanxang Lao Thai Cuisine) has never told me I could not have a side of peanut sauce nor do they charge you! The people of Salem are keeping your business alive and open by purchasing food through you, the least you can do is take care of the people and stop trying to pinch pennies and take, take, take from all of us, and treat us with respect and kindness, knowing that we choose to eat at your establishment and that we do not have to choose to eat there! It's literally just a simple side condiment and I am baffled that you wanted to charge me and I don't think that I'm going to be back and I think I will take my business elsewhere because there is plenty of Thai options in Salem!

    Papaya salad is a yes!

Best thai food in Salem, come to Royal Thai and support local biz. You know when you have those cravings for legit purple thai sticky rice or some papaya salad drenched in fish sauce? Royal Thai does it right. They're located in South Salem, tucked away in a little plaza where I just found out is located by a drive-through raw juice/smoothie bar too. Plenty of parking, and they have a small and kind of dark indoor seating area. No seats outdoors, so leave the dogs at home. I picked up an order, and they were quick and even sent me a text to let me know my order was ready. Their papaya salad is delicious, fresh, and filled with generous and juicy shrimp. I love that they devined the shrimp meticulously, and the peanuts were crunchy and well-portioned. Their pad see ew was delicious, and I loved the tofu choice as it came with some veggies. Not too sweet on the flavor, and mild was honestly very mild. I would like to try medium next time. I didn't have to fan my mouth from the spice, and thai spice is no joke. They even gave me a little wrapped portion of purple sticky rice, so I can only imagine that their mango sticky rice is bomb as well. Service was quick and with a smile, would 100% go back to support. The best Thai spot I've found in Salem so far, kòp kun kâ!

Food is okay. The Thai basil vegan was too salty. The Thai fried rice and drunken noodles were very oily. Overall the food is okay.

We reserved on Tock, and it was mostly full on a Friday night. Drinks: lots of local beers are available, but I went with the Pineapple Express: she warned it was spicy, and it indeed was (in a really good way). All of the food is done family style: - Clams Galicia: with tomato, chorizo, bacon broth. This broth as amazing. I literally drank it with a spoon - Pan con tomate: slightly different from classic preparation - more flavorful and heavier on the toppings - Salmorejo: tomato and bread puree, Serrano, jammy egg - like a creamy gazpacho - Grilled asparagus: with whipped ricotta and a cured egg yolk - Squid ink pasta: with hazelnuts, caramelized onions, peppers, and a runny egg yolk, a bit spicy. This dish was my favorite - Honey brined pork chop with a basque piperade sauce The servers were all great about checking in. I would definitely recommend the squid ink pasta and the clams if you're in town!

You order at the counter and then you get a number to take with you and place at whichever seat you choose. Drinks and food both came out really quick. I tried the bees knees which had honey, lavender, rosemary and simple syrup with a dash of black pepper. I did not see nor taste the black pepper but I was a huge fan of this drink. It wasn't overpowering in any of the flavors and the rosemary sprig made it look so cute. I got the breakfast potato hash with no tomatoes and it was a delicious and filling breakfast. The potatoes were so good my group wouldn't stop helping themselves to them. I added some hot sauce as it was in the dryer side but still really good. I also tried the matcha coconut scone. It had a pretty matcha green color but it was hard to taste the matcha or coconut and it was quite dry. Service was quick and friendly. The inside is really beautiful and we couldn't help but do a little photoshoot, so many fun backgrounds! Things to note: Restroom shared with other businesses close by businesses and metered street parking only.

It wasn't crowded when I arrived, around 3 or 4pm. Service was very friendly and relaxed. It had a comfortable, friendly vibe. It seems this place has a lot of regulars, because a couple groups came in after me and were greeted by name. It was Tuesday, which meant the Happy Hour menu was available all day. The prices were quite reasonable, and we got plenty of food. We ordered the Korean Street Tacos, and Curried chicken lettuce wraps and the cheeseburger with hand cut fries. Everything was delicious. The Korean tacos were a nice mixture of fresh veggies and rich meat flavors as well as some heat. The wraps were generously filled with a great classic chicken salad with curry, and had a great crunch. The burger was juicy and rich, was a good size and had a yummy brioche bun. The fries were cooked well and the ranch was creamy with a dilly kick. This was some solid food at a great price. Apparently Tuesday is trivia night, but we left before that started. Cozy and not too loud. Their specials menu of select food and drinks was nice, but I was a but disappointed to learn that the only non-alcoholic offering was a canned golden beer (and soft drinks, water - haha, per our server). They did have a decent selection of draft beer. I shared that many restaurants are offering mocktails and that they're missing an opportunity there. The table ordered a sampling of the menu; Korean tacos, Caesar salad, Mac & Cheese, Burger and fries, and Lettuce wraps. Drinks included strawberry lemonade, draft beer, wine, and ice tea. The Korean tacos were good, but not excellent. I think the shell could be improved upon, maybe a fried won ton? Maybe some chili sauce on the side? The Caesar salad was very good, but the mac and cheese was bland and disappointing. Overall it seems like they're working through some kinks. The server could've used some help, as he seemed to have the only one working all of the tables. No ketchup on the table for fries or offer of any. A condiment station might help, but the place is relatively small. I'm glad we stopped in and will certainly give it another shot. It's nice to have an affordable family friendly spot in Salem and I wish them the best of luck!
