To be honest, this place probably deserves closer to three stars, but I didn't quite have the heart to rate it that low. I know firsthand how challenging it can be for small business owners--especially immigrant-owned businesses. That said, there were several shortcomings that affected our experience. The issues started when ordering. There were two vegetarians in our group, and while many of the ramen dishes listed an option to add vegetables, I wanted to confirm whether the broth itself was vegetarian. Unfortunately, our server repeatedly said she didn't know and didn't offer to check with the kitchen. One ramen listed a miso broth, which is typically vegetarian, but when I asked about that specifically, I received the same response. To be safe, we ordered the clearly labeled vegetarian ramen, while my husband ordered the miso ramen. His dish arrived almost immediately, while the rest of us waited at least 15 minutes longer. When his ramen was delivered, there was no explanation or indication that ours was coming shortly. He tried to eat slowly so we could eat together, but he was nearly finished by the time our bowls arrived. One other small but noticeable issue: it was around Christmas, and the holiday music playlist was extremely limited. We heard the same songs rotate four times, which became a bit distracting. My advice would be to invest more in server training, especially around menu knowledge, and perhaps update the music playlist. With some improvements in service and attention to detail, this place could be much better. read more

Fast service on a Thursday around lunch time. Our group got two types of ramen (Tonkotsu & Korean) and shrimp & veggie tempura. The tempura green beans were my favorite, perfectly crispy without being greasy. Ramen was great, very tasty flavorful broth. Korean ramen/kimchi was spicyyyy. Was checking out the thrift store next door and will definitely stop by for some ramen again, and to try some of the other noodle dishes on the menu. read more

I ordered takeout and the first thing surprise me was automated ordering not a real person, anyway I follow the instructions and I was confirmed my order and drove to the restaurant 15 minutes drive. I get there and I was greeted by a robot, followed the robot instructions and confirmed my order, then a guy asked me if I wanted to order and I said I already ordered then he proceeded to tell me that I needed to order again because the robot didn't get my order. after the robot confirmed my order and my name. Please put the robot in the garbage, customers like a real person .So far I have good service with a live person , looking forward to another visit without a robot .Keizer is not ready for an automated service. Special ordered tonight. Salt and Pepper Shrimp with a light starch batter that was prepared with lots of minced garlic and chili. There was heat and LOTS of flavor. Delicious! There was none of that heavy eggy flour batter. And special ordered BBQ pork fried rice with NO soy sauce, authentically done by the chef. 2.25 stars. I'm not sure what's going on with the ramen scene here in the extended Salem area but I really didn't enjoy this ramen. Again, it seems that the broth was the main issue here. It's not thick, rich and flavorful like the tonkatsu ramen I've tried in other cities. I ordered the "hell" version and thankfully at least the extra spice added some flavor to this otherwise incredibly bland bowl of soup. I was excited to see they offered ma po tofu until i ordered the dish. It was a combination of tofu with frozen peas and carrots in an orange sauce. This is quite different than ma po tofu I've tried in other restaurants which focus more on Schezuan peppercorn and soft tofu flavors and use a very different sauce. I assume this is a regional preparation that isn't supposed to mimic the version we see in the States? In any event, I'm pretty disappointed with ramen in the area. Hopefully, I find a second place as an alternative to Akai. read more

The service was great, our waitress kept our drinks full and continued to check on us throughout the meal which was very appreciated. Restaurant was clean and lit nicely but not too bright, and we were the only ones sitting to eat the entire time we were there. Pan fried dumplings were delicious and super fluffy, would almost bet they're handmade. Almost forgot to take a picture until they were almost gone. For entrees I got the miso ramen with chicken and the chicken was so flavorful and yummy! The pork fried rice we got was pretty good, my husband wasn't a huge fan of the bean sprouts in it though. He got the Hell's spicy ramen with just noodles, soup and beef since he's not a fan of the toppings. The beef wasn't nearly as flavorful as the chicken and while the ramen had good flavor, it wasn't as spicy as the name described. Not a bad date night but probably won't go back read more

Customer service was so great! Food was amazing! Singapore noodles have an incredible flavor and the noodles are really thin in a good way. Bbq pork fried rice was loaded with veges and bean sprouts it was the best fried rice Ive ever had. The honey chicken was incredible white chicken meat deep fried delicate coating and the honey liquid love served on the side so it didnt overwhelm or make the dish soggy. If you like ramen then you will be thrilled at the ramen here the broth is deeply flavored and the noodles are ramen perfection and fresh. We went for dinner on a Thursday night. My friend that came with me is a vegetarian and they were able to accommodate her with veggie ramen. We both had appetizers (veggie spring rolls, crab Rangoon) I had sweet and sour chicken as my entree. Food was great, service was amazing. We will be back for sure. I went here with my sibling and it was honestly amazing. I loved the ramen and the beef in the ramen was honestly so flavorful and delicious. They had a lot of options to pick from and they all looked so good! The service was very quick and our food was delivered immediately. The waitress was very kind.
